My grandson is in infantry AIT right now with about 2 weeks to go. I'm retired Army with 25 years of active duty (aviation, not infantry) and I'm very proud of him and his fellow AIT trainees. Looking forward to his graduation ceremony soon!

I know. I remember my feet hurting like a mother fker and just wanting to sit down and sleep. Then we had to walk about another 2 miles back to our barracks. Then proceed to sit in the CTA while all SI was accounted for by serial numbers by our PL and 2 unlucky people while the rest of us laid down and slept before we could go into our bays shower and sleep. I remember the DS saying something about how we all look pitiful and tired or something like that for only walking 16 miles.

@@Food24112 yeah that was hell man but the feeling of accomplishment and just victory walking through those gates getting your cross rifles pinned and hearing your ds FINALLY say good job and shake their hand not many things in this world can beat that feeling

@@Napoleon_dynamite I remember a guy saying after we finished the Bayonet, Honor Hill, and then we were back at our barracks and we had slept and it was time for breakfast. We still had our cross rifles on and he was throwing trash away and a DS started yelling at him about why he was limping or something like that and as soon as he saw the crossrifles a switch flipped and the DS was calm. Asked him how was the Bayonet march and stuff. At the beginning of AIT after the 1st 100 yards both of my legs were cramping. I heard one of my DS said he's gonna be a tink tink or something like that and said how I would quit, but I proved him wrong like I proved my recruiter wrong and made it. My PLT was the only one to complete the cycle without anyone quitting and we even gained one person about halfway through AIT in which he walked into the bay when we were in the middle of getting smoked. The DS that had said that about me at the beginning shook my hand after my SDS pinned on my Cross Rifles. They were my favorite DS and I learned a lot from them. The same DS was also the last CQ DS we had. He ended up bringing out the TV from the DS office and he put on Restrepo for us to watch and gave us all of the protein bars and some popcorn people got sent. He also stood in the back and watched the movie with us telling us that the documentary is about the Brotherhood we had just entered.

@@Food24112 you got a tv?!?!? When I went to basic in 2006 that would have never happened ever we didn’t get shit after our bayonet except a nice meal and then smoked afterwards :/

@@Napoleon_dynamite We got the TV our last night there. We got a radio for music maybe a total of 2 weeks towards the end of AIT and the DS eventually took it away again. I think it was because of fighting over what was playing or some dumb bs like that

I can see the new TRADOC so sad these Infantrymen really missed out. Even when i was getting the new generation was struggling to ADAPT and be part of the team. Even those who graduated a year before were more acclimated for the job.

Why was there a female there? I did this in 2001 and it was all male. Did I miss something? Why are they even recording this? This is a sacred ceremony. wtf happened since I’ve been gone? UPDATE: So I looked it up, apparently the DOD permanently lifted the ban on females joining combat training in 2013. Damn, I’m glad I went when I did.
