Went through OSUT back in 2019, best advice for the most part when dealing with Drills is to just shut up, listen, and apply it to the best of your ability. Everything is easy if you come at it with the right mentality, and even if you aren't the strongest, just put in that extra work when possible while you're there. Go from being the weakest to the strongest, and it will pay off.
@@edejesus_ Unfortunately you will have your phone locked up, but it ultimately depends on your Drills for when you get it, and for how long. Good luck out there!

At Moore right now in infantry ait and there’s nothing to worry about, you don’t have to be a pt beast to pass, you’ll get in shape in basic and it’ll be enough to pass whatever you need to in ait

The workout I provided is very effective! As I stated in the video, even if you can't make it the full-time doing the complete exercise, there's alternate ways to adjust so you are still working out that muscle group for the full minute.

@@1stinfantryproductions I watched and liked one of your videos (the grooming standard video)! It's cool that you are so young with such an interest in the military! JROTC will be a perfect start for you! As a Recruiter I would visit my high school JROTC's often and I had a college with an ROTC as well. I will tell you that anybody that I enlisted who had ROTC experience excelled quicker than a person without that experience. Also, 4 years JROTC will allow you to enlist at a higher rank when you do the Army!
Thank you! Wait til you see the one I’m working on right now! It’s basically Ranger School vs RASP. Very high quality. I’m almost done with the video. I’m adding special effects right now, frame by frame, very tedious and a lot of the work will go unnoticed but those who catch all the extra effects will appreciate it! Adding gun shots, ricochets, water splashing, wet footsteps, birds chirping, crickets, transitions, music, etc lol with good headphones it’ll sound legit!
Outstanding list you put together on prepping for entry into the Army SFC Beitz… sure wish I had info like this when I enlisted during the Cold War (11B PMOS). It’s two thumbs-up from me! 👍👍
I really appreciate the comment and your service! When I enlisted in 2002, I thought all jobs in the military were the same. I just assumed everyone was a soldier who fought, haha. Then I went to MEPS and they told me there were different jobs, but Infantry was the first video they showed me. I said, "I need not look any further, that's what I want to do!" Lol
Ironically I enlisted in the Army expecting to get tank mechanic AIT (I had very high scores in mechanics on my entry tests), but I wound up receiving Infantry AIT instead. Looking back, that was actually a good thing for me. I picked up a secondary MOS and some add’l skill sets as part of that duty, and also had the chance to represent my unit in various exercises. Memories that will last a lifetime… I owe the Army a lot. Thanks for responding SFC Beitz… I appreciate it. 🇺🇸🇺🇸
My soldier would add Be prepared for how easy it is to get recycled, counseled & Article 15’s. It seems they want nothing more than to dish these out. Things such as getting sunburnt, hurt on the job, fighting, etc. Check your ego and tame your temper. Expect nothing pleasant. You deserve nothing everything is earned. It’s going to be different than you thought but you likely won’t know how until you experience it.
I would agree with this but one thing that needs to be addressed is your specific command dictates how your experience goes and the soldiers in your unit can make this experience better or worse depending upon a variety of factors. What I mean is: one platoon might have it very rough, soldiers being recycled, counseled, receive Article 15's, etc. Another platoon might have it easy breezy, they receive a lot of down time, they make several trips to the PX, they get more time for chow, etc. The Army is always experimenting and looking for ways to have a higher success rate with soldiers graduating Infantry School. Should they be harder on the soldiers, should they be easier, should they get less down time, should they get more down time, etc. I could give endless examples. I say all that to say, everyone's experience is different. Regulations, policies, and procedures change, leadership/Drill Sergeants change, training sites change...so your ability to adapt and overcome is very important.
I graduated high school in 95. I was 5’9” and weighed 109lbs! Yes, I was a bean pole! I had to eat a bunch of bananas before weigh in to eke out that extra pound to make minimum weight! I was a scared and awkward kid. When I got done with Infantry school, I was 150lbs and gained so much confidence in my self. Do what you’re told and give it everything you got.
Love hearing it! Thanks for your service! I watched the skinnier guys gain a bunch of weight/muscle at Infantry School, and the heavier guys lose a bunch of body fat!
Things i wish when i was younger. I got separated during bct for not passing my pt tests. I will never forget my time there it was a great time. Foxtrot 1-19
As long as you're not an absolute and total worm, you can make it through OSUT. You don't need to be a stud, but fitness helps a lot. Just don't get into a profile spiral where you are always at sick call and unable to train. Don't get caught with contraband. Don't shitbag too much. There will be some long days and some early days, but you're there with your friends and you're going through it together. As much as some of the days suck, you will also have some of your best memories at OSUT.
lol I could barely do 13 when I got to Infantry School...now, even though I am retired, I can do 100 without stopping because of that muscle memory from so many years of push ups lol and I still workout
@SFCBEITZ just came back last week 198th infantry brigade A Co 2-58 yes they give you your phone once a week after our 3rd week I think. They will take time though.
thank you for the recent uploads SGT! looking forward to the future of this channel! (number one rule for OSUT is “shut the fuck up” that’s what one of the drill sergeants in reception told me and it’s true)
I want to be 11B so bad, but I don’t want to go to OSUT and have them tell me that I’m 11C, so I’m going as 19 Delta, which even though it’s recon, it’s like a combination of being a Mechanic and Infantry/ 11B. So it’s works.
One big difference is 11B trains long range and close combat…19D keeps their distance. I assume you’re going active duty? If you were going Guard they can guarantee that you’re an 11B but yeah, active they can make you an 11C and I wouldn’t be too excited about that either. I didn’t even know that was a thing when I joined lol but when I was at Infantry School and they started telling us our duty stations, I heard a couple people get told they’d be 11C’s…but I’d say maybe only 2 soldiers out of 40 something
2:58 question: what if multiple candidates maxed out the ACFT (which I assume happens all the time for infantry candidates), would there then be multiple "Iron Soldier" titles awarded?
I hate saying this because I say it a lot, however, it is the absolute truth; every command in the Army does things differently so it'll depend upon the command. One unit might give several Iron Soldier awards if several soldiers max the ACFT, but another unit might say, well, soldiers 1, 2 and 3 all maxed the ACFT so let's look at weapons qualifications to narrow this down...and whoever shot the best combined with their maxed PT score will be who is selected for the Iron Soldier. That's one example I could give out of many.
Ibolc suck if you are not in shape. Almost everyone can pass the RPA. I assume if you are going to OSUT you should be in great shape or else it gonna be rough
It’s this simple, be able to run 2 miles, be good at rucking, and be more mentally resilient. Don’t be a dumbass do as ur told and stay out of trouble.
Active Duty question - If you don’t have a duty station on your contract, do they give you some options for first duty station after OSUT or are you just assigned to the needs of the army?
it will be purely needs of the Army if you didn't nail down a duty station during the signing of your contract...so it'll be exciting to find out where you are going lol
Do you have recommendations on decent affordable running shoes to start running to prepare? I’m 33 and my husband is 30 and we’re both wanting to join the 1-185th in infantry unit of the CA National Guard, so we really want to prep well. Already gonna be almost twice most recruits age we don’t want to be weak and slow too 😂
lol I understand...I've mentioned this several times in the past but we had a 42 year old in our Infantry platoon at Infantry School and he did just fine! What is so crazy is, I am not even 42 years old yet, and I've already completed my whole career and retired lol but with that being said, being 33 and 30, you guys should do just fine! As far as running shoes, I would suggest going to an actual running shoe store that measures the length and width of your feet, and assists you in finding a custom pair...however, that might be out of your price range. For me personal, I've always stuck with Nike Pegasus shoes for running, they just feet my feet the best, they're comfortable, sporty, they're lightweight with good soles and traction. However, other brands I recommend for running are Brooks, Asics, Hoka, and Saucony.
As a NG recruiter did you have any experience with EPTS cases? In my case I have ulcerative colitis but it’s controlled. I know i’ll need a waiver for sure but the AD recruiters i’ve talked to said I have basically 0 chance to get back in.
I understand where you are coming from. When I joined, I entered MEPS and didn’t even know there was more than one job in the Army. They just said, what do you think about this, showed me an Infantry video, and I said perfect lol but with todays day and age, and recruiting numbers so low, and the ability to research so high, it’s the reality of todays day and age.
you will go to Infantry School as "prior service" unless you are coming from Marines Infantry or Air Forces Security Forces, then you'll go to a short refresher course...
I arrived at Airborne School via a cattle truck from Sand Hill. Surprisingly, the Black Hats didn’t target us; instead, they went after the Officers, Navy SEALs, Marines, and other “jabronies.” Honestly, I didn’t mind the physical demands-no matter how much they made us run-because we had access to doughnuts, coffee, and even soda at the chow hall. Plus, we got night and weekend liberties, which made the experience a bit more manageable. In Airborne School, you’ll run everywhere, and always in boots. I almost got recycled during the first week because I had never practiced a parachute landing fall (PLF). But thankfully, I improved fast, which was a huge relief. By the second week, we were suspended in the air and dropped to the ground to be graded on our landings. The jump towers weren’t open, so our first jump ended up being straight from a C-130. Airborne School is tough, but if you listen to instructions, have heart, and really want it, you can make it through in just three weeks.
Hey sir, I’m about to go through Army infantry training at 37 yo. I’m former Air Force and Navy. Any specific advice on rucking/pace to prep, or is that all built up to in the training?
You will be happy with your decision. I enlisted more Prior Service Marines into the Guard than I did from any other branch. I think a big part of the reason is because I enlisted a Marine, he told his boys that he was liking the Guard, then they started enlisting, then they started telling their Battles about the Guard, and it was a domino effect. You will get treated with a lot of respect and your prior service will be looked highly upon, will help you get promoted quicker, etc.
If you are going regular Army opposed to the National Guard, you will be happy with that decision as well. As an Infantryman with the Regular Army, we had 4 prior service Marines in my platoon and they were very successful and received a lot of respect as well.
@@AlexanderWinterborn-r6p can you copy and paste this comment onto the video so that I can pin it and more people can see it? Since it is commented in response to another comment I cannot pin it to the top of all comments. Great comment, good info, and impressive resume!
That's an excellent question, and I think is smart of you to ask. First off I would say to make sure you are in really good shape when you leave for Infantry School. I am sure there will be some male doubters...but they cannot say much if you are killing it in the physical fitness department and staying up with everyone during platoon runs and road marches. When I was in the Infantry we did not have females. My concerns at that time would have been: can they pull their own weight because equipment is heavy and it's a very physically demanding job. You'll need to be able to deal with a lot of potty mouths lol when a bunch of guys get together what is said can get dirty, quick...it's typically all in fun, but still...and if you start diming them out for things you hear, no one will want to say anything around you and you could end up isolated on your own quickly...everything will be magnified on you, until you prove yourself in several categories. You will need to have thick skin...Infantry is not the best MOS when it comes to keeping your body clean. I took a lot of "baths" using baby wipes lol but if you start complaining about things like this you will get frowned upon. If the guys complain about it, it won't be a big deal, if a female does, it will be a big deal...so I can see a double standard. I think the most difficult thing for a female will be that you'll have to prove yourself at Infantry School and fit in with your peers...and then when you get to your actual unit, it'll be the same thing. The best way to fit in will be to maintain the same level of physical fitness, not complain, not expect any freebees or anything given to you because you are a female, and just earn the respect of the people within your unit. I know some things I just mentioned might seem harsh, but I am just trying to keep it real. I can see there being an unspoken double standard for females. Now, on the positive side, if you do keep up with the guys physically and pull your own weight, I can see you getting a level of respect that most guys won't ever get. You may even get shielded and taken care of better than most. If you decide to do it, I'd love to hear from you along your journey! Best of luck and make sure you know "why the sky is blue" lol it's an Infantry thing
@@SFCBEITZ because god loves the infantry lol!! Thanks you I appreciate your comment, I did great in basic, better than makes in my platoon and my DS encouraged me to change MOS to infantry so it’s been in my mind!
At the end of the day, that is the truth, and you could say the same for most Army schools. I recently made a video about the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program (RASP) and spoke to a couple of Rangers about the course. They all conveyed the same message in one form or another: "show up, don't quit."
Graduated ft benning from c 2-19 in 03... I've heard a lot has changed. I remember we were out in the field bout 90 percent of the time. The most memorable thing for me was the bayonet. Went to Iraq in 04. Before I went I ran cross country in high school. That's how I prepared
Extremely excited to have my waiver passed soon. I wanted to ask, is there ANY way I can increase my chances to join the 11th/be stationed in Alaska after Airborne school?
Man, this socks. During the Viet Nam War, there was no teamwork and lots of guard duty. Drill Sgts. yelling at you was a fact of life. So was the front leaning rest position and double timing everywhere. Our first 2 weeks in Basic got us in shape. My Infantry AIT was at Ft. Polk. My nephews said their infantry was easier than what I had.
Nice! In the mean time keep doing your research on the Army, stay out of legal trouble, and make sure you are passing your classes! You won't be able to join if you rack up a bunch of issues with the law and are not passing in school.
I need a little more context. Are you a split option who has completed BCT and willing be going to AIT this summer? I would say it's highly unlikely to change your MOS if you are in this situation...however, you can in the future. Having multiple MOS's in the military is one of the best things you can do for your career. You make yourself a more valuable skilled soldier, it helps you with promotion points and promotions, and it'll help you after the Army being multiskilled. Hi, I’m a high school junior enlisted with 92A mos and will be shipped out for BCT in 1 week. Now, i want to be an infantry, can i change my mos after BCT?
I made a video on this topic some years ago but it's still very relevant. Below I will link the video. In short, yes, you will be able to change your MOS at some point in the future, but, the Army will want you to be a 92A for awhile before they allow you to change your MOS. They just spent like $100,000 or so to get you proficient in a certain skillset and they want to get their money's worth out of you before they allow you to do something different. On a positive note, having multiple MOS's will be very valuable as your career progresses. So, that 92A MOS will be highly looked upon once you become a 11B... Can I change my MOS? Went through OSUT back in 2019, best advice for the most part when dealing with Drills is to just shut up, listen, and apply it to the best of your ability. Everything is easy if you come at it with the right mentality, and even if you aren't the strongest, just put in that extra work when possible while you're there. Go from being the weakest to the strongest, and it will pay off.
you nailed it fam!
in the OSUT u have ur phone bro?
@@edejesus_ Unfortunately you will have your phone locked up, but it ultimately depends on your Drills for when you get it, and for how long. Good luck out there!

At Moore right now in infantry ait and there’s nothing to worry about, you don’t have to be a pt beast to pass, you’ll get in shape in basic and it’ll be enough to pass whatever you need to in ait

@@SFCBEITZ should’ve added more context, basic will be very difficult and it is HIGHLY ADVISED to work out before you go, but people shouldn’t be scared and should try their best no matter what. I went in super out of shape and luckily the nco’s helped me out in that regard. I just wanted to kind of let people know that they shouldn’t worry too much.

It's the fear of the unknown though. The Drill Sergeants are there to help you pass as long as you give your best effort. Best luck to you in completing the second half of Infantry School! These work outs seems amazing I never know how many of each to do so having a time limit seems great compared to beating myself up for not knowing how many I should do
The workout I provided is very effective! As I stated in the video, even if you can't make it the full-time doing the complete exercise, there's alternate ways to adjust so you are still working out that muscle group for the full minute.

Be prepared for how easy it is to get recycled, counseled & Article 15’s.

(number one rule for OSUT is “shut the fuck up” that’s what one of the drill sergeants in reception told me and it’s true)
lol I guess that's some pretty solid advice

@@SFCBEITZ thank you!
As a NG recruiter did you have any experience with EPTS cases? In my case I have ulcerative colitis but it’s controlled. I know i’ll need a waiver for sure but the AD recruiters i’ve talked to said I have basically 0 chance to get back in.
If you have to post this video then I am shaking my head at today's army. Abn Infantry 1986-1992.
Thanks for your service!
So how would this apply to a transfer from a different branch?
you will go to Infantry School as "prior service" unless you are coming from Marines Infantry or Air Forces Security Forces, then you'll go to a short refresher course...
@@SFCBEITZ thank you. Think that’s what I’m gonna do once my time with the marines is up.
I’m actually going into airborne after infantry can you make a video of what to expect?
I have a video specifically on Airborne School, check it out!
Great video!
Hey sir, I’m about to go through Army infantry training at 37 yo. I’m former Air Force and Navy. Any specific advice on rucking/pace to prep, or is that all built up to in the training?
Smart man, get that retirement. Push to get Ranger School and then on to SFAS or the Regiment. Lets goo!
yeah I would say it's built up in training...just make sure you are physically fit prior to shipping, it'll make your life much easier
transfering from usmc to army infantry. any knowledge on how they treat prior service compared to new joes?. thank you
You will be happy with your decision.
What would you recommend or advise to a woman wanting to become 11X?

I need a little more context. Are you a split option who has completed BCT and willing be going to AIT this summer? I would say it's highly unlikely to change your MOS if you are in this situation...however, you can in the future. Having multiple MOS's in the military is one of the best things you can do for your career.
That's just what I know from some of my coworkers who used to be 11B prior to moving Reserves
@@kevinurielfonseca question: how big are infantry men? Are they large and athletic with large shoulder's and triceps?
No, as a former 11B, infantry is comprised of all shapes and sizes. Most guys are fit. In the Infantry we push everyone to get swole.@@Interactionismhmslaw
In old days did DI beat you

Saturated fat is good for you
Fam, go look up saturated fights right now. You want very limited saturated fats in your diet.
@@SFCBEITZ Our species has survived and thrived off of saturated fats like those found in red meat and eggs for thousands of years. They are an integral part of our diets. Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) as found in seed oils (vegetable oil, canola oil, etc.) are extremely unhealthy and are prevalent in fast food. Our bodies need salt, protein, and healthy fats in order to operate at an optimal level. Saying saturated fats are unhealthy because McDonald’s is throws the baby out with the bath water.
Eat bacon drink wiskey
Eat whiskey drink bacon!
You don’t even need to prepare these days. The place has turned into a freakin joke. All that extra time and those young men and women come out, out of shape and not knowing shit about infantry tactics.
What makes you say that?
Infantry OSUT is a fricking joke

@SFCBEITZ can I break the hour tob30 minutes of studying and how dobi study effectively to get a high score over 50
@@John-ls1mn just get on your phone or computer and jump on youtube and search for help with ASVAB...I just did that and watched a couple minutes of a couple different videos until I found someone I liked listening to...everyone has their own strategy methods and what works for them. I like Grammar Hero because he has so many different videos and he gives practice questions and then shows you exactly how to come up with the correct answer...below is a video I just watched from Grammar Hero. He puts time stamps in his videos so if you don't need help on a specific subject and want to jump to a different subject you can. I wouldn't do less than 30 minutes and I would have a notepad and take notes...write down the questions he provides, try to answer them, and if you can't, watch how he gets the answer and learn from that. Here's the video I just watched.
