At 32:32 It's funny how you say it's not very Japanese to go after your dreams, Eiichiro Oda, the creator of the manga, specifically has said that he created Luffy as a protest to that very attitude of Japanese culture towards chasing one's dreams.
The 'D' in Monkey D. Luffy stands for Dreamer💯
Wow didnt know that. When did he say that?
@@klairvoyance nah i dont think so
He's said it multiple times but I belive he repeated it in the video where he met with Inaki. I could be wrong.@@qwerttzizzi

I can't say enough how good the casting is. Mihawk's introduction was just so epic, but I think what made this episode was Emily's acting this episode. She was great.
Great that they're not grounding this in reality. Can't wait for them to show Ace destroying ships. That will be even more insane.
@@wkadalieofc
@@wkadalieWhen you say "not grounding this in reality" are you talking about scaling their powers back to where it's realistic? because that could never happen.
@@RS-fy9hb They could have ... like Mihawk ..could have swung on the ship. And blew up the gun powder instead. Which would have been more realistic. Gawp could have loaded a Canon. Instead of throwing a Canon ball. Definitely lots of other shows might of found all this too ubsurd.
@@wkadalieI noticed that everytime “live action” is brought up all these Hollywood directors took it as a grounded realistic take which is totally wrong, it should simply be a fantastical interpretation of the same source but in a human flesh version. Good examples are Bleach and Rurouni Kenshin directed by Japanese directors.
The hungry guy that shows up at Baratie, whom Sanji feeds, is Gin. He was the lone survivor of Don Krieg's fleet of 5000 men and 50 ships, that got sliced by HawkEye Dracule Mihawk here.
In manga they most of tema
survived from Mihawk though
I wish that had Gin said that. It'd make Mihawk even more terrifying
Yeah, I did summed up the entire season, its 7.5 hours for 8 episodes. Some of the 30 minutes into Sanji's Kindness, some into Usopp's Bravery, and some more into Nami's last episode would had worked better.
Wish they showed Mihawk's boat though.
Zoro has technically trained with 1, 2, and 3 swords. He prefers keeping his 3rd sword for serious fights, so we mainly see him use 1 or 2 early on.
You forgot he knows how to do a ‘no-sword’ technique as well 😂
I dont know how
but they got Mihawk right out the anime, the voice, outfit, and just the way he looks is perfect
The way he talks can be improved a little bit in the live action he just has a little bit of ( yaasss 😫💅🏻 ) when he talks but in the anime he doesn’t talk like that

Mihawk’s intro was amazing.
Him just breezing through a bunch of randoms, slicing a ship in half from shore and taking out Kreig (a guy who’s on par with Buggy/Kuro bounty wise) just shows the power gap between him and everyone else.
Like they said in this episode, he’s a member of the 7 Warlords. This was a great way to tease that strength level and how the Straw Hats have a long way to go.
Mihawk is just so good. He is there to introduce just how powerful characters can be in the series and that out main characters have a long way to go to reach that level.
Mihawk is only a glimpse into the top levels of power in the One Piece world.
He is objectively top 5 currently in great pirate era.
Not really your comment implies that mihawk would become less impressive later on when that’s just far from the truth don’t set up wrong expectations
Most people the starw hats would meet later on are far weaker than mihawk so your comment is just completely wrong
Nah Mihawk sits confidently at the top along with only a few other. One of the top 15 strongest characters the One Piece world has ever seen
@@Mohamadtheman no that’s not what I was implying. Up until this point in the story, everyone is fighting at relatively normal levels of power. Seeing Mihawk at this stage in the story showcases a glimpse into what the upper levels of power in this world looks like. two sword in Japon has coolest history
Miyamoto Musashi was known for his two-sword fighting style. He founded the Niten Ichi-ryu school of swordsmanship which taught how to fight using two swords. His techniques and philosophy behind duel-wielding swords is chronicled in his famous writing The Book of Five Rings.
You just took the "words" out of my mouth kkkkkkk, thought the same when heard him say that he didn´t know any style with more than one sword in japan, the best swordsman ever used two swords to fight Nitten Ryu
Mackenyu was casted as Yukishiro Enishi in the Rurouni Kenshin: The Final. The last fight scene between him and Kenshin was epic.
Zoro is really cool, and I dig his design and the choices that surround his character, like how he uses the sword of his friend last when he needs that extra help in battle and how he holds it in his mouth because of the verbal promise he made to her. That's a really good, unique, and interesting touch. The people or person who designed the characters deserve a pat on the back, and so do the designers and actors and also writers on the show for bringing the characters to life in a mostly accurate way.
The designs are taken from the manga, written and drawn by Eichiro Oda. Even all the costume changes are pulled from cover or promotional illustrations he's drawn (they don't change costumes that much in the manga proper). The casting and costume departments did a great job.
@@SuzakuXto be fair, outfits actually do change pretty regularly in the manga compared to most manga where one outfit is used throughout. It is just in the context of arcs that may span 100 chapters that it doesn't seem often. But yeah, cover pages have a lot of unique outfits as well.
I think the sanji actor was one of the best performers on the show along w zeff buggy and mihawk but something I didn't notice until just now was how accurate to the anime Sanjis walk was 😅
Esp when he does his kick fights while his hands are in his pockets 😂
Garp telling mihawk to not underestimate luffy might be the wildest thing anyone has ever said in the one piece universe so far XD
pretty sure he only said it for him to peak his interest and actually take it on cause as we know mihawk only does what he wants even though he supposedly works for the marines so he had to say something outrageous to make him accept it
Mihawk is straight out of the manga/anime. His display of power shows a brief glimpse of what the top tier characters in one piece are capable of.
To answer your question on how the crew can afford to pay the meal and alcohol at the Baratie: Zoro probably still have money left from his Bounty Hunting, Nami probably got money from thievery (or even stealing some people's money at the Baratie lol). And Ussopp still got money when he was working for the Shipyard in Syrup village, plus maybe Kaya gave some money to him when they departed.
12:00 So if you remember the world map from the previous episode you'll realise there shouldn't be any place like that where all 4 seas meet as all 4 of them are separated by Red Line and Grand Line.. it's still a mystery.
Jaby's knowledge of filmaking and camera angles is surprising, Their love for Mihawk is great, he's the goat. And the analysis of the plot is great, and Mihawk being similar to Saitama is pretty interesting too.
The guy makes movie and television content for a living, I should hope he has a solid understanding of the artform.
@@SuzakuX I'm sure many watching this, me myself included, are here for the first time due to the OPLA reactions and therefore we didn't know
He was on the first episode watching the Pirate King's execution. He's a perfect copy from the manga/anime. It's not a martial art, it's a style, his style is Santoryu (3-sword).
27:35 I literally got chills when Jaby said that. 31:50 That's right. The best part of Oda's writing is that even though we are going through the journey of strawhats, this is an ever evolving world with full of lively characters.
Zoro's journey is filled with so many great moments
22:10 and since then Zoro never lost. We all cried during that scene in the anime.. and ngl mackenyu did really great.. it's less dramatic but really good.
Ngl that scene was underwhelming in LA, I choked up during Nami scene but hardly flinched during zoro's. The actor is great fighter but he needs to up his acting, he had same expression during whole show
Except vs Kizaru...
@@cocobean.72 all of the emotional scenes felt underwhelming to me.. I only cried a little during Sanji's departure moment only because it reminded me of the anime one. They should've kept the bowdown moment.
Oh and Zoro's "I'm your first mate" scene was a bit emotional too. Anyway, I strongly believe they'll get better in the future.
@@mstr293 ahh yes.
@@anontaku1 All emotional scenes were as good as they could get except the zoro one. In anime/manga he was balling his eyes out cause he saw his dream getting crushed. In LA the actor didn't even shed a tear
18:40 finally someone who notices that
Mihawk is a reminder for both Zoro and the audience that while he is OP in the beginning, Zoro is still far from the strongest fish in the sea.
they are portraying Garp as a serious dude in the live action. In the anime he is a more approachable happy go lucky guy and he is proud of Luffy not because he became a pirate, but for escaping from him.
Carp revealed his real personality when luffy bounced back his cannonball. He was angry but laughing at the same time which happened a lot in luffy’s childhood. Apparently he was proud too in the live action. And of course he has to be serious when leading the marines.
Didn't want to spoil it, but LA Garp's real intention is revealed in the last episode...
I also really loved Sanji. He seems very likeable and it seems like the creators tried to tone down the perv which was a wise choice
Before thriller bark he was never really a perv just a simp
Some of the points that were touched on this ep and the discussion had me sweating lol iykyk
Imagine if Mihawk trained Zoro......
Don't give oda idea
I don't think mihawk will unless zoro begs for it
I don't think it'll be unless zoro gets separated from the crew .
I really hope they don't read this comment section
nah baboons should be enough to train that minority hunter
i love listening to your guys reactions and even hearing your theories knowing how much of what you guys think actually will or won’t happen. glad you’re able to enjoy one piece!
I'm loving the hell out of Garp. Now imagine you're a high ranking marine and your grandson want to be a criminal😂.
The season 2 needs to happen fast, this universe is amazing. I wonder how they will tackle actors growing in size if there are going to be future seasons.
If you want to continue in the manga or anime then here:
Manga: chapter 95
Anime: Episode 46
There's color manga available if you dont want to read in black n white
@@thedoctor3528 They only covered 46 episodes from the anime?
As with every episode so far, lots of changes have been made from the original story. Plots have been simplified or merged, characters have been adapted out (or killed early), and details have been altered. It's all within the spirit of the manga, but the differences are very noticeable to me.
That's why it was so special to witness this fight between Zoro and Mihawk in live action. You both talked about the technical acumen, choreography and camera work. And I agree, that's all great. For me, though, the best part is how faithful that fight scene was to the comic, almost panel for panel. It's such an iconic part of the early storyline, it brings me joy to see that come to life so well.
To be fair, Luffy's standards for joining his crew aren't really high. The first one he asked was the News Coo, the gull that delivers newspapers. 😂 As long as he likes you, you're welcome. But the ones that do join the crew are those that have lofty dreams that can only be met by traveling with him. That's why Koby can't be part of the crew despite Luffy liking him.
Helmeppo is not a bad person! Its just he was raised with a wrong hand! His character will keep evolving slowly and slowly!
wOw you both are such great reactors! To notice their fighting styles and how it reflects their personalities is awesome!
For some reason I want you guys to react to the breath taking world of one piece and/or the appeal of one piece also maybe the openings
Me too
I love this channel's deep analysis. I can't wait for the episode 6.
Mihawk is a awesome character and not to be messed with but he has respect for Luffy and Zoro because of their dreams like he said this world could use a few more wildcards.
22:18 don’t forgot u said that achara😂😂
I appreciate your perspective on the fight choreography.

oh the foreshadowing in this reaction. omg you don’t know how right you guys got some things
Achara " I thought he was gonna take out an eye"
Good foreshadowing.
The whole set of baratie is real. The whole ship. I love and appreciate the hard work, love, and passion that the whole people who's involved in this OPLA gave just to make this LA. And most of them are truly a one piece fans. Oda and his team participated too from the very beginning. Oda's purpose for doing this is attract non-anime fans, and to share the world of one piece. This show tackled many things as well, it's not only about adventures, dreams, and going to the grand line. It's more than that. (I don't understand those so-called and self-proclaimed op fans saying that Oda just did this to earn money. One piece is his story, his masterpiece, so whatever he does to his own story. Even if you're a fan, you can't and shouldn't question his decisions)
The casts are so good, they did their job well. The main casts (straw hat crew) has been training for their action scenes. Taz (sanji's actor) has been training 8-10 hours, it became his hobby too and he also learned how to cook and become the chef of the whole crew. Emily is training too and grow up doing karate, Mackenyu do his own stunts, Jacob and Iñaki has been doing training’s too. And their doubles are so amazed at their dedication so as the director. All people who's involved in this OPLA deserves nothing but respect and recognition. It's hard to make a live action, but they still did really great.
I've been enjoying your reactions so far!
While being cool is definitely something that will make Luffy want someone on his crew, there are actual good reasons for wanting some of the characters you've seen so far. In the case of Nami, it is that he needs a navigator because he has no clue where to go, and he coincidentally bumped into her. For Sanji, it is about food. The live action has cut some side characters (bounty hunter colleagues of Zoro) that were rescued by the Strawhats after being stranded on a little island with scurvy, which motivates Luffy to go start looking for a cook. Similar patterns can be seen in some other future crewmates, but with the first five assembled, the story won't be as focused on the topic of 'more crew' anymore. From here, Oda begins to actually begin building out the adventures themselves and truly flesh out a world that will blow your mind the further you get into the series.
I'm absolutely stoked that this show, and people reacting to this show are doing so well right now xD. The numbers are crazy, and that might be what's gonna give the team an even bigger budget for the next part of this show, because the Adventure of One Piece is really only getting started, and we've only just established what makes One Piece so magical with these 8 episodes that have just been released xD.
In one of the first episodes of the anime Zoro named his 3 sword style. He referred to it as "Santoryu". Great review!
Is it weird that even though ive watched the 8 episodes of the live action and been a fan of one piece forever ...but still watch your reactions 😆
I appreciate that they dialed back Sanji's thirst for women a lot.
Netflix has done great job love the every cast and character hoping next season really soon
Mihawk is by far one of one pieces most dope characters.
5:58 "Hi! Welcome to our sh***y restaurant!" This was just PERFECT! 😂👏👌
you have some good observations.... =D i watched anime so i really like your takes.
This was my favorite episode so far, So fun and Epic!
There were dual wielding Samurai in Edo period Japan. Miyamoto Musashi was the most historically mentioned. He is...very interesting to say the least. He was an adult in the early to mid 1600's.
And no romances between the straw hats crew. Oda has a hard stance on that.
Lol the coincidence at 12:00 😂
Sanji: Find the all blue, that’s my dream
Guy reactor: maybe there’s mermaids
Sanji in later arcs: my real dream is to see mermaids (i don’t remember the exact wording but something about mermaids being his dream)
I think it was just before he finally see the mermaid princess, Chopper reacted saying "I thought finding All Blue is your dream!"
Yup young luffy saying to his grandpa "I want to be Pirate!" Is like a kid saying to his Police Grandpa He wants to be a Drug Dealer.
What an extraordinary episode
From a power scaling perspective I've always thought Oda was a genius for introducing Zoro's end goal so early in the story. Up until this point Zoro has bested so many people that you sort of just think of him as this amazingly powerful person. Mihawk's introduction works to bring us down to earth. Zoro is a rabbit, and it's not lipservice when people tell Luffy his dream is insanely dangerous. For Zoro to reach his goals he needs to get stronger than Mihawk, for Luffy to reach his goals he needs to get even stronger than Zoro.
Sometimes mystery works, it's fine to sort of guess at how good Shanks is without seeing him really fight.
But sometimes drawing a line in the sand that says, "until you can slice ships in half from a mile off, or see bullets as they speed towards you, you're not good enough" is really needed.
It gives us a measuring stick so that even as Zoro grows and gets stronger we all know he's good, but he's not there yet. (And it also means we know when he is there and get to ponder when we'll get to see this duel of the century.)
Yup in last zoro become strongest swordsman and luffy become strongest man
Its fun that most who doesn’t know One Piece think of Mihawk comparing Zoro to a rabbit as rude, while OP veterans know that rabbit is generous
@@TaRatTinCan It really is generous too. Honestly Mihawk had no right to be casually sailing into East Blue as if his will alone couldn't bring all of Baratie to it's knees. It's kind of amazing that he was able to control Yoru enough to not just cleave Zoro in half. I've always felt that the fact that Wado didn't shatter is half the reason Zoro impressed Mihawk. It's not just a swordsman who is willing to face him, it's a sword that's able to clash with Yoru.
12:00 aaaah yes mermaids...
All blue is Sanji's dream... There must be loads of mermaids there ;)
Great video once again.
And me mihawk is so it's so flipping cool. And you know, the the restaurant restaurant was all built.
So I have to wonder, is it possible to get a reservation there? LOL.
I would definitely go.😂❤😊
This episode is pure gold
Cool, Felt like the 6th will drop before our midnight though.
That being reduced to one sword and so further connecting with his former friend...that was a deep martial art thought, and could have been a good arc, nice
You guys just predicted Mihawk and Zoro's future relationship. 👏👏👏 I doubt you'll be able to see that unfold in the live action as I don't think they'll get that far. But if you guys want to find out what happens to them, then I suggest you check out the anime.
Achara already commented on how cool the character design was when the younger Mihawk appeared in Ep1 when he was one of the faces shown during the initial execution scene.
The 50 ships and 5000 men fleet he was referring to at 13:15 is don krieg fleet which mihawk destroy all by himself . In the anime mihawk follows a fleeing don krieg to baratie that’s how he meets luffy and zoro and duels with zoro.
13:13 That fleet he’s talking about…those are the guys Mihawk was slaughtering when Garp called him.
In One Piece the daring consider their dream to be more valuable than their lives; which is why they generally don’t fear death. Luffy himself doesn’t kill his opponents because as quotes by the author himself after being asked this question “Luffy doesn’t kill his opponents because crushing their dream is a fate worse than death to Luffy”. Which is why Zoro would rather die than having forfeit everything he promised himself and Kuina to be.
They basically plucked Mihawk right out of the anime/manga. His casting was perfect.
So the canon scene when mihawk cuts it. When you look at it even closer Don Creed shoots a pellet and a canon and Mihawk cuts both the pellet turns into two and kills the men and the canon balls make the explosion!! It’s crazyyy cool details
"I thought he's gonna take out an eye" 👀
Fun fact: The sword that Zoro holds in his mouth was specially designed so that he could hold it in his mouth. Fun fact 2: The actor who played Mihawk was a casting agent who thought they wanted him to cast the role but they were specifically looking for him to fill the role.
"Maybe they got mermaids there" hahahahahaahaha! How Sanji like.
Jabby’s 😳 face during this reaction was so endearing
"He knows who the hat belong to?"
YESSS
It's really fun watching you guys discussing one piece. you definitely should watch the anime it's way more in depth and better written
Usoop can tell where an incoming cannonball may hit, also seeing the Baratie sign while the other cant even see anything in the fog.. Thats a future great sniper for you, like father like son..
Yes !! Keep it coming.
Mihawk being in the East Blue is still so funny to me. My guy had NO BUSINESS being there.
Mihawk is so perfect. Manga/ anime accurate. Too good.

It's not surprising you can see Aang from Avatar to be similar to Luffy. Maybe not necessarily directly inspired, but more of a stereotype. Many protagonists from shonens (animes geared towards young boys) are often enthusiastic, hyper, goofball, or any traits an innocent kid has.
6:54 ahh man don't say that "Zoro's smiling" everytime. It hurts bcz we barely saw him smiling since like last 10 years
“I thought he was going to take out an eye” 👀
Mihawk's line "Magnificent" is my new orientation
he said "it'll be cool if at some point he would learn from Mihawk" :'D
