- Welcome to our first-time reaction to the fifth episode of the One Piece live action adaptation that just released on Netflix!
Today we watch the fifth episode of the live action adaptation of One Piece. This episode introduced us to two new amazing characters! Sanji a charismatic cook who also seems to be a pretty good fighter played by Taz Skylar.
We also got to meet Dracule Mihawk who was probably the most challenging pirate the Straw Hat crew has encountered yet. Steven Ward absolutely kills it in this. Mihawk is both menacing but also likable. The skills he has with his massive sword will put Zoro to the test!
Will Zoro become the greatest swordsman of all time? Only time will tell. But Luffy's encouragement sure makes it easier.
The action in this episode was phenomenal! The Zoro vs Mihawk fight scene had us at the edge of our seats. They keep teasing Nami's backstory and we can't wait to know more about her!
We're all in for this pirate adventure that is ahead of us! So join us as we set our sails and head into episode 1x5 of this highly-anticipated adaptation of one of the greatest anime and manga series ever created.
If you are a fan of the anime feel free to add context and let us know if we missed anything. Having experienced the Grand Line before we'd love to hear from the veteran pirates themselves!
We hope you enjoy our reactions and commentary as we delve into this world for the first time, talk about the cinematography and different aspects of filmmaking that makes the show different and how this fourth episode made an impact as first time viewers.

don’t let Garp’s age fool u. This guy as said in the show is the hero of the marines. And a long time rival of the Pirate King. Roger is OP af and so is Garp.
That makes sense! We’ve barely seen the amount of power these people have. Can’t wait to slowly uncover just how op they can get 😃
@@OfficialMediaKnights yeah it’s like Luffy and Zoro is still at level 5 while Garp and Mihawk are more than level 400
@@OfficialMediaKnights Shanks too. That guy is op af.
Ari & Denise you two are by far my favorite One Piece reaction videos.. Let me tell you I watch around 12 Netflix One Piece virgin reaction videos and you two are the only ones that didn't jump ship to team Mihawk. As soon as those other reaction video saw Mihawk they jump ship and claimed Mihawk is now their favorite character when previously they claim Zoro as their favorite. What a bunch of sellouts! Ari and Denise your loyalty to Zoro is warranted my loyalty to your channel. I will always view and thumb up any content you put out. Last thing Zoro saying "Wounds on the back are a swordsman greatest shame" The scars on the back are either a sign of cowardice, weakness or unpreparedness. That being said Zoro knew he lost so he rather take a slash from the front instead of the back and not live with the shame. Zoro just that dog live by the sword die by the sword. Keep up the great content Ari and Denise can't wait for the next one.
One low key highlights for fans almost nobody gets is how Usopp was able to read the restaurant sign at that distance and the fog. That's 35/20 vision.
That's true! We love that detail. It goes to show why he has such good aim!
the power of SOGEKING!! 😂🎉
@@hebertcortez2118 GOD Usopp!
@@hebertcortez2118sniper islands hero
@@hebertcortez2118 Uh, Usopp and Sogeking are 2 different people. Even Chopper knows this.
When Zoro says "Scars on the back are a swordsman's greatest shame" and offered himself for an attack was because he was basically saying a true swordsman wouldn't retreat from a fight even when he's lost. Zoro knew he lost so he was taking it with pride and accepting his faith, attempting to go out on his terms, like a true fighter
He’s amazing! It honestly earned our respect all the way. He is a fighter till the end!
I wish Makenu would've said this line with a smile, like manga Zoro did.
This would 've been so much more in character.
@@ItoyokofanYou think tho if anime emotions work in real life. The smile looked dope in the anime, but maybe smiling like he did in the anime and saying that line would seem weird or corny idk
Yeah, especially since he requested a “fight to the death”.
@@OfficialMediaKnights Not only that, but even if Zoro kept fighting, look at what happened to two of his swords! He wasn't going to let the sword that belonged to his cherished rival and friend be destroyed like that as well
The intro of Mihawk really shows you how big the world of One Piece can get and that our crew, as talented as they are, are still just small fish in very very big waters.
I just have to say, I love Nami’s actress. Like you can really see everything she’s thinking in her performance. The look on her face when Zoro rejects their friendship and then when she’s contemplating getting on that boat and leaving. Emily Rudd kills it.
I also just love the boys ribbing Nami about her ‘new boyfriend’ and Nami trying to fight her smile with a “you guys are the worst.” And then Zoro using the drinking game to try and get to know Nami because he knows she can’t resist a bet (which by the way, excellent set up for that last arc I just noticed). It’s a real moment of vulnerability for the two characters on the ‘not crew’ that tend to be the most closed off. Love it!
Love this comment, everything you said is so on point!
Emily Rudd definitely kills it and I adore Nami as a character. She's a tough cookie with a vulnerable side to her, and seeing her and Zoro unwillingly open up to each other was such a beautiful moment. Cannot wait to see where else our non-crew is going to end up!!
Man, Mihawk looks like he stepped right out of the anime. The costume, prop, and makeup crew deserve major credit!
Mihawk was PERFECT! His look, the way he sounds, his attitude, him kicking ass every step of the way. He was perfectly one in this show.
Garp casually throwing the cannon ball with his bare hand is like taking a glimpse of how powerful he is
He was the biggest threat to the Marines at Marineford.
Mihawk's actor is perfect. The casting for this has blown me away.
This episode is such a pivotal moment for Zoro and Strawhats. It teaches Zoro humility and shows all how far they have to go at this point. It shows to peak power as a glance and lets u understand they need to get far far stronger to survive in future.
Thankfully, they did not change anything in Zoro vs Mihawk fight. Kept the full scene from anime. That is why this is soooo good. Best episode atleast for me and it just keeps getting better
Absolutely agreed!! They have to learn to fully become a team, and realize that luck will only get them so far. This was a great episode and has us even more excited for the rest of the season!
They failed to capture the internal dialogue in Zoro. In the manga and anime, he kept screaming and shouting in disbelief in his heart at how far the gap between him and Mihawk is. When his strongest technique, the 3 Thousand Worlds was beaten by Mihawk, Zoro knew he had lost, but he accepted his defeat in grace and honour like a true swordsman. Mihawk truly deserve the title of the strongest swordsman in the world.
Also, this might come as a spoiler but many many many chapters down, Zoro will be sorta "trained" by Mihawk. Zoro was willing to throw his pride as a swordsman away and kneel and bow and even beg Mihawk to train him in order to become stronger to help Luffy when Luffy was defeated, showing how important Luffy is to Zoro. Important enough to throw his pride away as reluctant as he was. The same goes for the rest of the crew, when they realised they had depended too much on Luffy and had practically thrown all the heavy lifting to Luffy. They were too naive and complacent and thought Luffy would miraculously defeat all his opponents, when in truth Luffy always came out barely winning by a hair's breath. When faced with the TRUE superpowers of the world like the 7 Warlords, 4 Emperors and 3 Admirals, they were but babies in front of them.
@@xorngoh7303 Yeah, but this kind of internal dialogue i don't see it working in a fight scene for a live action. In anime a simple tought can last a full 1 minute, it doesn't fly on live action though, but i agree in a sense that they could've adapted Zoro to actually talk in disbelief instead of having an internal dialogue.
Not quite, one key difference, unlike Anime, Zoro fought with only 2 swords and didn't bring Wado Ichimonji out till Mihawk brings out Yoru. Showing that Zoro had the self-respect to not go all out vs a tiny knife. I really liked that version of Zoro than the Anime. Ofcourse the inherent Anime dialogues are impossible to capture in live-action, that gap will always be there.
@@devvasu1412Well, that's because santoryuu style is really hard to portray. So we'll only be seing Wado in some very specific moments
Mihawk is such a good charcter because he shows us and the strawhats what the peak looks like. They have to be that strong and even stronger or they will be anihilated
Exactly! Giving Zoro a real threat and showing the audience he is not invincible was a great call. Can't wait to see more of his journey. Rooting for our boy!

We know what his current bounty is, but we never learned what his bounty was before he got named Warlord. In fact I think he's literally the only warlord whose former bounty we don't know. I've tried to go through all the warlords and as far as I can tell we know every single one of their former bounty *except* for Mihawk.
@@Arkayjiya true, thx for correcting me
Zoro is like in his own videogame where he meets the final boss during he is at level 2.
Dracule Mihawk is super OP!!! Even at the current events of the manga, we still haven't seen Mihawk's full power.
He is awesome! I love how they gave Zoro a real threat. We definitely needed that for him and now we know what he could be up against. He's gonna have to train even more!
@@OfficialMediaKnightsthere is one man on earth that isn’t afraid of Mihawks sword. And that’s Buggy.

@@kagato23 Haki

On the other hand, in the manga Mihawk was just kicking the shit out of him.
Basically binge watching the series with my wife, boys (10&12) and even my daughter who came over(21). We all loved it and were arguing about who our favorite character was until they introduced mihawk. The way he was written and they way the Scott portrayed him was amazing. And now I’m making a mihawk sword in my shop cause my youngest decided on the spot to be mihawk for Halloween
The story you shared is precious and brought warmth to my heart today
In terms of power scaling, a lot of people compare this to the starting party trying to fight the final boss right out the gate. It's like comparing the ocean to a glass of water, Mihawk is broken as hell and showed Zoro what real power is.
Hmm interesting! It was actually awesome to see how powerful Mihawk is, especially since we've had time to see how competent Zoro is with the swords. But he still has work to do, and that just adds such great depth to his character and the story!
as far as we know..there is nobody above Mihwak he truly is the greatest swordsman @@OfficialMediaKnights
@@DiegoKawasaka Back in the day, the 7 warlords were the top of the food chain, way before the four emperors were introduced/invented. Although Shanks even then was on a similar level to Mihawk.
Imagine the Zoro's "Nothing happened" in the live action version. Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps.
i hope the show is in for the long haul but i have a feeling the special effects budget will need a boost xD
Brrrrrooooooo!!! The loyalty!!!!!!!!
It's gonna be EPIC; no-one is ready for... well, THAT Warlord
If the LA does plan to get that far, they really have to commit.
Mihawk is a badass in this episode! When i steped in to watch this show i was expecting goofiness not to have my heartstrings pulled every episode. Im loving this series!
Right?!? Honestly same here, we are amazed at the pure fun and emotional depth in this story!! What a fantastic show this is!
Mihawk's appearance in this episode is just a glimpse of what pirates in the Grand Line could do. But even that, Mihawk is still stronger than most of the people in the Grand Line. That's how strong he is!
This is the chapter that shows you that you don't need fruit to be tremendously strong like Garp or Mihawk
I love watching your reaction towards Mihawk and how badass he is. Mihawk is one of the top-tier strongest characters in One Piece. Great reaction video! 😊
Haha thank youu, so glad you enjoyed our reaction!! Mihawk was such a great addition to the show, we loved his character! Cannot wait to see more of him in the future!
The point of Mihawk coming this early in the show is because in the manga Luffy and his crew have been walking over every villain like they were nothing. And Mihawk is meant to show readers how weak they really are at this point
The show needed this as well! Especially with Zoro. He seemed unbeatable! Now that we know what they could go up against the stakes have gone through the roof!
@@OfficialMediaKnights also luffy nerfed in la pretty strong. in original he went through east blue without any trouble and to allow crew do something most time he spent traped, lost etc. there he weaker and start to think about being captian is not just one shot all on your way much earler.
I just want to say, your guys' reaction to this show is definitely my favorite on RUclips! I love the extra commentary you have on cinematography and production; it's so cool to see :) Also, I totally agree with you at the start of this episode--Garp/Grandpa is becoming one of my favorites, the actor is so good! I loved the scene where he was shoveling down the pile of steaks; it made me think of Luffy!
Whoaaa this was such a kind comment to read, thank you so much, you made our day!!
Garp/Grandpa is just awesome, and the actor is killlling it! You are also on point with the whole food thing, I just realized that!! The humongous appetite seems to be running in the family 😂😂😂
This is a great ep, cause so many folks saw how good Zorro is and thought he was the 'best' but then you see how GREAT Mihawk is and how he is light years ahead of Zorro. Another way of showing how vast the world is and Zorro has only touched the small part of it.
I remember watching mihawk for the first time in the anime and just thinking that there would be six more guys like him.
RIP Zoro, may your soul be lost on its way to the afterlife and return to us 🤣
Ahah we'd prefer his soul didn't get lost to begin with but yesss, agreed!😂

13:48 Luffy ordered one of EVERYTHING on the menu.
17:48 That's probably Mihawk's doing.
27:43 Dracule Mihawk is a BOSS! The actor playing him is slaying the role.
It is
Yeah the starving sailor was part of Don Krieg's crew. In the anime, Don Krieg and 100 of his men actually manage to retreat to baratie and demand 100 free meals, after which they intend to commandeer the baratie to serve as a replacement ship (theirs is practically a wreck). Luffy has to defeat Krieg to save the Baratie. Only afterwards does Mihawk show up (he was pursuing Krieg, not Luffy).
The entrance of Mihawk and showing his abilities is only 0.01% of what he showed...meaning, the straw hat crew have ways to go... like years...
Mihawk (Anime Original):
I'm no beast that goes all out when hunting a rabbit. Unfortunately, I don't carry any smaller sharp instrument than this one.
What a line and what a badass!! We love his character!!
In the anime, Zoro has one more line after he says "I will be come the greatest swordsman." He says "Are you okay with that, Pirate King??" to Luffy, and Luffy nods. I wish they included that line!
This is the ep that you really get hooked. Mihawk's debut is just next level. I love this show so much and went in with such low expectations. I've had high expectations dashed so many times in recent years, so for the reverse to happen is so wonderful. I know season 2 is gonna be a while, but I can't wait.
The 50 ships and 5000 men were all part of Don Krieg's crew. They all died because they woke up Mihawk.
That's just a glimpse of one of the seven warlords of the sea (Mihawk). Your minds will be blown once you see the other six warlords, the 3 admirals, and the 4 emperors of the sea.
Garp is confused if he hates Luffy or is just immensely proud of him. Luffy’s “NEVERRR” came from the deepest portions of his heart and I’m living for it😂😂😭
One of my favorite moments from early One Piece is how Mihawk grows to respect Zoro. I believe Zoro was only like nineteen during this arc, so having this young arrogant kid challenge him was nothing to Mihawk. He didn't care, Zoro wasn't even worth a breath. But Zoro kept fighting, showing he had conviction and heart, shocking Mihawk when he saw his eyes. His using Yoru was proof, Zoro earned the honor of him using his actual weapon. Zoro then refusing to retreat and taking the cut, Mihawk's line of "remarkable". He genuinely meant it. This young punk showed more honor and heart then probably most of the others he had fought over the years. So Mihawk let him live and gave him the scar as encouragement. "Come find me" showing that he sees Zoro as a true challenge one day if given enough time.
That fight with zoro vs mihawk is like the one in the anime. Epic. ❤❤❤
15:18 - Aw man, I love your instant support for our boy Zoro... but....
Mihawk just showed us that he can slice a WARSHIP in half while he's standing on a beach.
And Garp chucks cannonballs like he's a major league pitcher.
great reaction guys as always...i like genuine reaction from you even more bc you haven't watched the anime..its fun watching this OP live action series with you❤
Thank you! That means a lot to us! We’ve been having such an amazing time. ❤️
I don't think its said here, but the reason Sanji specializes in kicks is so he doesn't hurt his hands as they are the tool of his trade.
I cannot wait to see your reaction to the last 3 episodes!
Also, we got a renewal announcement today!! 🎉🎉 I'm eager to see how the show-runners will adapt future arcs. Hopefully, you'll react to season 2 as well!
I absolutely love how OP they made Mihawk in the live action. I mean, he's OP in the manga too but I could totally see some shows try to make the fight closer to make a main character look good. But showing the gap in their strengths expands the world a hundred-fold. Like Mihawk said, they're basically frogs in a well over there in East Blue. Reastically, they haven't even made it to the starting line yet which is the grandline.
Zoro is still my favourite even in the live action. He is introduced as very much OP but Mihawk shows both him and the audience that he is still far from the strongest. The actor really plays him well.
what’s great is the english VA of Mihawk and the LA actor Mihawk did a video together of both of them being deadpan and sassy to each other
It just gets crazier and crazier and I loved every minute. I'm blown away
The sailor who was really hungry and lost 50 ships and 5000 men was actually part of don kriegs crew. Implying that when garp called mihawk he had just finished destroying 50 ships and murdering/incapacitating all 5000
im so excited for you guys to know nami’s backstory, i love the curiousity ❤
Omg we are sooo excited!! Cannot wait for the next episode already!
The guy who showed up telling the story of how his fleet and thousands of men were all killed was from the fight scene from Mihawk. The story didn't make that direct connection but it's implied. Zoro fighting him now is akin to fighting one of the endgame bosses when you're level 1 in the tutorial zone.
Just imagine put level 3 character against lv 100 boss in the first floor.
That's Zoro vs Mihawk situation right there. 😅
I love so much that Zoro is basically just a frat guy on the inside. The second anyone mention drinks his eyes just glaze over with alcoholic himbo joy.
Let the Most awesome episode ever begin I'm hype for this reaction from you guys
Haha thank you so much for your support, it means the world! This episode was soooo good!!
Zorro has a long way to go before he’s ready for a rematch with Mihawk
I'm surprised you're this shocked of Mihawk's strength. You watched the guy cut a whole ship in half with a slice
this is why I enjoy watching you guys. you don't know how strong between Mihawk and Zoro and it's interesting to see people who have no idea about the original story first witness the story even though it's an adaptation.
Not knowing anything about this has been such an amazing journey. We've enjoyed every surprise this show has had to offer. Thus far it's been our favorite show this year without a doubt!
Mihawk was done justice. The actor was completely ferocious
Really enjoyed your reactions. Looking forward to the other episodes of one piece live action. I loved it. Cnt wait for season 2
You guys have been my favorite live action reactors that I've seen so great job! I've been reading and watching One Piece since 2002 and now i'm watching the live action with my daughter before we start the anime and its funny how much you start to care like you said. It shows how great Oda's story is. Hope you guys take the time to start the anime or at least read the manga (which would be much faster lol) All the best!
The most important qoute here is "i could have been fleet admiral". This is not one rank but two above an vice-admiral and there is only one guy of that rank. Garp is hero of the marines, remember that.
The guy that stumbled in was Gin. He was probably the only endearing member of Krieg's Pirates.
SO EXCITED FOR YOU TO WATCH EPISODE 7 AHHHHH! IT'S MY FAVE EPISODE THIS SEASON. LOVE YALL
GAAAH WE ARE SO EXCITED FOR IT!! We're already working on the next one so we're almost there!
I LOVE YOUR REACTIONS.. ITS ALL GENUINE!!!
But wait did we just ignored the fact that someone mentioned " THE SEVEN WARLORD OF THE SEA" and MIHAWK is one of them??
Garps line about passing on Fleet Admiral resonates pretty heavy with how things are in the manga/anime.
I wish Garp said, "you just son of my son.!". 😂
I almost forgot about that. that would be epic if he said that in live-action 🤣
The thing about the Warlords is that not only they are given free rein, they're also given complete immunity.
They can commit a very heinous crime right in front of the Marines, and the latter cannot arrest them "so long as they stand" (keep this phrase in mind). Few Marines hate this though, since they are forced to look away and outright ignore them as they do horrible things.
Not all the Warlords are evil, some have a reason to want that immunity. Mihawk just doesn't care all that much.
funny thing abaut Taz Skylar, dude learnt how to cook and how to punch, just for the role of Sanji, and now he likes to cook and punch, thats how One Piece changes people
I'm really glad they didn't nerf Mihawk, he's just as stupid strong as he is in the anime. Also the show didn't make it obvious but in case you missed it, the guy that Sanji fed, he was a part of Don Krieg's crew so the 50 ship sunk and 5000 people killed are all because of Mihawk. In the anime he literally goes through the Grand Line with a tiny one man ship basically a raft by himself.
Wait till you see some of the other villains in the coming years, the power levels in this world are off the charts
Yoooo we are so pumped!! Cannot wait to see more!
Congratulations guys, today the creator one piece and netflix announce this series will get season 2.🎉
You guys probably didn't notice this, but Mihawk had a cameo when Gold Roger got executed at the beginning of the series. You can see a younger man with his hair cut starring up at the execution platform. A lot of important characters from later in the series are canonically present but they didn't have time to show them all.
That garp going insane and laughing just shows him 'fine, be a pirate if you want to be, but make sure be the best pirate'
what exactly did luffy do worthy of punishment? he stole a map and bruised a few guys egos? it doesn't sound like raping pillaging or murder like a proper pirate. luffy doesn't even kill the bad people that try to hurt his friends. he saved zoro, coby, kaya and nami. garp just sounds like a control freak parental figure that cant get control of his kid and wants to punish him if he colors outside the lines. i suppose pirate in this world means simply going against what the world government expects of you.
Spoiler: Don't read if you don't wanna know it.
Hawkeyes says "fight isn't all about strength" because the concept of haki is yet to be shown, he is using the "power of observation" to predict Zoro's attacks, all great fighters in OP mastered their "soul powers", abilities that the personal determination of each one can be reached in their soul. Zoro and all the crew will learn how to do that eventualy.
I just realized that Mihawk is sideburns from Gold Rogers execution
Niiice catch, that's so true!! Thanks for pointing that out!!
Gold Roger execution has so many Easter eggs. There are many others u can see. Buggy, Smoker, probably Crocodile (or just a joke for fandom), Shanks, etc. This show is full of details added which only hardcore fans can figure out (manga fans since lot isn't incorporated in anime)

I honestly can’t remember an intro to a character that was as awesome as mihawks. And the guy plays him amazingly… like disinterestedly menacing, if that makes sense.
Oh yeah Mihawk was aiming to kill Zoro in the end, he hit him hard in that last attack specifically to test him as he saw something in Zoro that he rarely ever sees and wanted to test him on the will to survive such injury.
