It's time for a fall sewing project! I loved making (and wearing) my Gunne Sax style dresses last year so much that I knew I wanted to make a fall-themed one this year. The resulting Gunne Sax meets Dirndl dress makes all my fall dreams come true.

To make a dirndl positive suggestion make a dirndl blouse out of the orange fabric for your winter wear. They are shorter around the torso to reduce the bulk but you will retain the pinafore dirndl option for the future of your wear. It would delightful and you might have need of a dirndl in your future endeavors.
I was just going to say you could make a blouse - or two! One short sleeved and one long sleeved.
It's a Gunne Sax Pumpkin Patch!
I don't know if we're voting, but, I vote for this one!
Pumpkin patch dress sounds perfect!!!
I was gonna say it gives me Dani from the original Hocus Pocus vibes with the cut and colors. I love it! It would make a cute little witch outfit all you need is a witch hat!
So adorable. I want one. Jumper works so well, I'd leave it. Think of the different tops and colors. Love Love love it.
Thank you! And yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm going to wind up leaving it as is. We still don't have any fall weather in the forecast!
Yes gunnesaxoween!!!!
I love how it turned out, it looked great in the reveal with the shirt sleeves you paired it with.
It came out sooo cute!! The orange accent fabric really helps make the pumpkins on the main fabric pop!
What a lovely Gourd-e Sax dress!! 😂
Ooh, you might have found the winning pun! 😂
Gourd-y Saxe. 🎃
I was born HATING orange. BUT I believe by next Halloween, you will have changed my mind completely because I LOVE LOVE LOVE this dress. You are succeeding where Mother Nature has failed for almost 60 years (which is November 2023).
Thank you!
Gorgeous dress! 😍 Gunne Sax Harvest maybe?
This dress turned out so stinkin cute! It's giving eccentric teacher who would tell your fortune if you asked nicely vibes
I thought of Ginny pumpkin patch dress but seriously, it soo dangerous watching your everyday clothing vids. Now I need to make one or twelve!😅
Do it! ☺️
I think I will! I just need to figure out what stash fabric goes together. My wallet says no buying fabric for a while😂
OMG the weather is so bananas!
i agree, keep it as a jumper dress, makes it more versatile!
Think your words are right on the money here. That is a frikkin' cute dress.
🎃🎃🎃really boopy cute! Definitely agree with other comments, keep it a jumper dress and make a orange blouse!
I LOVE it!!😍 It's sooo PRETTY!!😍 And I LOVE how autumnal your hair is too!😍
(*WANTS a dress just like it*)
So cute! If you added white lace to the orange section just above the ruffle, it would look like whipped cream on pumpkin pie (which I think would be amazing!!!)
CUUUUUUTE!!! YAY! SPOOPY SEASON!!!!!!
It looks so cute. Love the dirndl look it has. And those deer!
Completely agree with you regarding our unseasonably warm fall weather. At least it's finally starting to cool off a bit. So ready for chilly weather to finally arrive.
Love it with black sleeves! Orange would look great as well.
Leaning into the dirndl look was absolutely the best choice. You'd fit in perfectly at any of my local Oktoberfest events. You could make it even more dirndl by adding bodice hooks for the lacing.
I had to laugh when you were complaining about the nice weather in the Fall. It is very North West of you. Bad weather does not phase us, but to much sun at the wrong time of year, no than you. Love the dress, it is so cute and flattering.
I really love watching your videos. You have consistently showed the process of how you mix, match, alter, and fit your garments. It has enlightened my understanding of the process. When my best friend since childhood asked if I could help her achieve her dream costume (Alice in Wonderland), I felt confident enough to try. She visited on Sunday, and I had mockups prepared for a petticoat, dress, and pinafore. We fitted, altered, restructured, changed sleeve shapes, and added a collar from a different pattern. Now, I'm cutting and sewing the actual garments. My confidence is higher than it was before we began. And several times throughout the process, I remembered your videos. I really needed guideposts for this task. You provided just what I needed so that I was ready for the challenge. Thank you so very much!
That's so awesome! ❤️
that is such a fall harvest fairy tale dress
Wow it looks lovely! I think I would leave it as a jumper. Though the sleeves in that fabric would be stunning. Detachable maybe?
That is a fabulous skirt and I need one!! 🤩😳
I like the look of the ivory lace on it.
You could always do puff sleeves and button on the longer ones like in some Regency dresses. Or lace in sleeves... Still its cute and the lower neck was def the right choice.
My fav Gunnesax so far!
Someone suggested doing short blouse, you can do some sleeves and attach them to collar or something that can go underneath the dress part.
Ghouly-Sax
OMG You have sponsors, how great!!!! 😀 Also I love the dress.
Thank you!
OMG! The fauns!
OMG!! Just from the thumbnail I love everything about that dress!! Off to watch you make it now...just had to share the excitement the picture caused
A little lace on the skirt would look nice, the small on the orange or something slightly chunkier along the hem are things I could see working really nice and the fabrics compliment your natural colouring so well.
I've got zero Punny Sax dress names but the dress is awesome!
I need this pattern in my life!
I love your gunnesax dresses sooooo much! I was inspired by your gunnesaxoween videos from last year and made my own spooky version this year :) thank you so much for being and inspiration and positive force in my sewing journey.
You are too cute for words. I love your videos and this dress is absolutely ADORABLE 😍
Aww, thank you so much for your sweet words and your super thanks! ♥
What a great look. Love the inclusion of grazing deer. So very PNW!
At one point, the red flowers behind your head when you were sitting looked like a bow in your hair. It came out beautifully!
Absolutely love this dress!! 🥰
Absolutely charming! Love it. It's true about the weather. Pretty consistently in the seventies in the afternoon at the time you posted this, which is typical October weather here. At least until the middle of the month which is when the rains should start. I hope! That's just a few days away and I can't wait. Crossing my fingers it will follow that pattern this year.
Love the dress it turned out so bootiful
So lovely, Rebecca! Happy you are happy with it as well. LOVE how you showed us the dress completion in the beautiful garden/park. So adorable.
I would live A dress made like this.
So stinking cute!!!
Love the dress! A puff sleeve in orange would look so cute. Or you could do a shirt to match and wear it underneath. I liked the idea someone earlier suggested with the shorter length in the shirt. Either way it’s cute.
I love love LOVE how this came out! This is so stinkin cute 😍
Thank you again! :)
Cornucopia Sax!
What sunflowery pumpkinlicious dirndl perfection!! 😍🥰
Pumpgunne-Sax
Oh, I like that!
Fall is a state of mind that has no need for calendar restrictions! This is my favorite of your Gunnesax dresses so far! How about something light and sheer for the sleeves, perhaps in black? Might be cooler and wouldn't compete with that fabulous fabric! Also, I know I'm late to the game, but how about Gunne-kin for the dress name? More fall, less Halloween?
Thanks! Gunne-kin is a cute idea. And I've decided to leave it sleeveless -- more versatile that way.
This makes me want to make a Halloween dirndle!
This turned out so cute, I love the dirndl lacing! I also loved how you played with the pumpkin in the park, like it was someone you were surprised and pleased to come upon there!
I love that dress
Super cute!
Wow this is so gorgeous xx
Me before seeing this video: Okay, no new sewing projects this year. Just going to finish what I have started.
Me now: Okay, going to be making a Gunne Sax dress style, and it's going to be a top priority. Maybe three dresses.
And will finish one, start the other, and buy the fabric for the third before moving onto the next pretty Christmas project!
It's not just me...right?
Haha! Gunne Sax dresses are addicting!
QUEEN!!! ❤️👑
Love the dress!
The changed neckline is great. I have stopped using invisible zippers due to the strength/Weakness issue and use regular zipper smith a lap.construction which was common before the 70s ish. I like the snugger fit if I can get it right which in turn necessitates a zip.
As to.sleeves....going deep history bounding here
What about lace on sleeves like Italian Renaissance?
Love your Fall prints. Could you make small angel type sleeves to wear when warmer and then have hidden attachments on your longer sleeves if it gets chilly enough? Then you can add all the lace to your dress. Also all the pantyhose knotted around Antoinette's neck makes her look like a murder victim. 😬
This is absolutely beautiful! I want to make a gunne sax dress but cannot find a pattern anywhere! It's driving me nuts! They are so awesome!
Thank you! You can honestly use any princess seam bodice pattern to get the shape pretty close, and then it's just gored skirts with ruffles or multiple tiers, and full sleeves. You can do it!
@@LadyRebeccaFashions I will make it my winter sewing goal!
Beautiful!
I love this !
I love this 😊 so cute! Makes me want to sew again but at the same time I’m not much of a dress person.
Trying to figure out more what I actually like and will wear and not just making the pretty things other people make 🤦♀️ that’s been my biggest issue.
I hope you do end up adding the sleeves and lace later on! It's so beautiful and I would love to see it with poofy lacy sleeves as well ☺
How about "Fall into Gunneysax". I'm in Sacramento, CA and it was still in the 90s up until this week. Now we are in the high 80s. Actual Fall weather will start at the end of November.
Wonderful results! Newest sub. Live in nw Illinois now but originally from Portland 😊
Currently watching this and it is 57 degrees out...I've been waiting for another Gunne Sax!
This one makes me wonder: Gunne Sax meets Farm Rio....even though it will probably not coordinate as well with Dora as this one
So cute!
Saxtumn sounds good to me, but it’s your dress.
Super cute! I live in the PNW too. I am still having to go out to water plants which is NOT normal here but at least it's cooler again. Smokey but cooler today. Have you a cloak or jacket that would look cute with this dress? Our weather changes fast! I had the A/C & heater on in the same day once. lol
I think you spoke too soon about it being cooler! It's in the 80s this weekend!
@@LadyRebeccaFashions I'm in Marysville so it was pretty nice!
That is so super cute, I love the fabric combo and the twirl and the lacing details! Also, how is it a year since gunnesaxoween?!
Thank you! And right? This year has gone by super fast.
harvest sack dress
I do wish hallowe’en was the big deal here in the UK that it is in America . It looks like fun.
It's a gorgeouuuus jumper! Maybe I missed it, but what kind of petticoat are you wearing with it in the videoshoot? At this point I've decided that I should add some gunnesax-style dresses to my wardrobe, and I know from watching historical stuff that the supportive garments are very important to the complete look! I appreciate the wonderfully aesthetic and educational content, Lady Rebecca
Thank you! I'm wearing two old and limp malco modes petticoats together. Unfortunately, they changed manufacturers and their new ones are no good, so I'm on the hunt for petticoat resources as well!
I think the dress turned out great, and I agree with you on the new lower neckline. Do you have enough of the orange fabric to make a shirt to wear underneath the dress? I'm thinking of a no-collar, shallow neckline that will not show; to keep the versatility of a jumper. Just a thought.
Have a great week,
xoxo's Sandie😊
I'm not sure I have enough for a full shirt, but I might be able to get more.
@@LadyRebeccaFashions Check the fabric store! The shirt would look nice under a dress made of ghost fabric.
How about the Pumpkin Patchwork dress? The Gunne Sax dresses sometimes remind me of patchwork because of the mix match of patterns.
Make the sleeves, but put them on a minimalist bodice that you wear underneath so they're optional?
Hi Ms. Rebecca! I probably missed you mention it, but did you use a particular pattern for this beautiful dress? Also, is JoAnns the best place to get quality quilting cotton for dresses, or it just depends on the brand?
I buy all my quilting cotton from Joann's.. And the pattern is one I've been adapting since I made my first gunnesaxoween dress.
Where do you recommend buying a petticoat for under a dress like this? (Or do you recommend a pattern? We are a similar size/shape so any recommendations would be lovely!)
I honestly wish I knew! I used to get all my petticoats from Malco Modes, but they changed their manufacturing, and their new petticoats suck. If you find a good source, please let me know! (Because in my experience, making tulle petticoats is totally not with the hassle.)
Is there a way tomake sleeves interchangeable?
Love the dress
I don't think so, since there's so much movement around the armseye that I would think snaps would come undone.
I ususally don't wear skirts or dresses as I am a very large apple shape and look like a whisky barrel in them. I am curious about a Gunne Sax skirt/circular trousers?
In my opinion, I'd say wear what makes you happy, no matter what your shape is like.
🇨🇦😃 why not make a puffy sleeved blouse out of the orange to wear underneath so it’s more versatile?
Gourd panels?
How were you able to get the linen sheets to not be scratchy? When I ordered I washed a few times and it was still itchy so I had to return them
I found that they softened the first time I washed them, and they've become even softer with each wash since. (Not sure if it matters, but I use All free and clear detergent, and wool dryer balls with lavender essential oil.) They are definitely a different texture than cotton sheets, but I've found I really like that feeling, though I love the look of the luxe sateen on top for the duvet cover, because it is so pristine. Do you think it's possible you have a linen allergy, or does linen clothing usually feel fine to you?
It's very cute and suits you to a "T"
To get more opening for taking dress off, could you not add a side zipper user the arm, which will eliminate the back zipper..
Like you I’m smaller at the waist compared to my bust at 40” now..
So if I do create a dress I will add the underarm side zipper to give that extra room to slip the dress over the top.
What pattern number & maker of this gunny dress, please..
Thank you
I've found that I generally hate side zips, to be honest. They always get stuck, and are hard to do up in general. I can't remember where this pattern originated from, but I know I mention it in my first gunnesaxoween video from last year, which is linked in the description.
Ever think about putting in a side zipper?
Tbh, I hate side zips! They never want to go up, and then the zipper pull bothers my arm.
👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑
how did you figure how wide you needed each of the panels to be in comparison to your waist size? i know you said 20" per panel, but what math did you use. i really like that style and amount of swoosh, but i'm a little bigger than you i think.
Honestly, I didn't really use math for it. I just knew I wanted it gathered, so therefore the total had to be somewhere advice 2x my waist measurement. This winds up being something like 2.5x.
ow about vcalling it Gunnekin...?
Harvestsac???
Help! I ha e been sewing for about 65 years and I have no idea what "cottagecore" is! Please, someone - a definition!
gunne-snax for trick or treating?
I think a few people used that term earlier this year for food-themed dresses (which I guess maybe pumpkins would count as?)
It's too bad you couldn't add removable sleeves, like zip on/zip off sleeves.
Gunne dirndl-ween? Autumn dirndl-sax?
It cracks me up that Google thinks your comment needs to be translated. 😂
