  • It's September, and that means it's time for fall sewing!!
    I have several fall sewing projects planned. In this video, we'll take a close look at the fabrics for my upcoming projects, and then dive straight into the first one -- a perfectly pumpkin pinafore.
    I am so excited to add this pumpkin dress to my wardrobe, and now I want to wear it everyday to try to make it feellike autumn. Good thing I'm making more fall stuff!

    That purple with black overlay screams Belle Epoch evening gown to me. It's gorgeous together.
    The fact that you are using glitter fabric shows your commitment. My daughter calls glitter, " the herpes of the craft world". I have walked five feet away from glitter fabric and still gotten coated with glitter.

    I too love full circle skirts but I do not like that they stretch due to the portion that is one the bias cut of the fabric....I now make 8 gore circle skirts...as I lay the pattern piece across the fabric,.I toggle the pattern piece back and forth across the length of the fabric and get a much better result and much more efficient use of the fabric, and since I like my skirt length to be 36 inches or longer, the pattern fits on the fabric better....I do cut each gore out one at a time, so 8 times, but a much better result in the end...i do not need to level the hem of the shirt....also depending on the print of your fabric, you do not get a strange arc of print across the skirt...and lastly, if you cut 16 gores (yes, it gobbles fabric) you get a really full double circle skirt...you do need to narrow the width of the top of the pattern piece....

    That is just so cute. The neck line being curved in a sweet heart shape really looks good. I just love the cross straps too. I would have gone with a bigger print as I would have been afraid of a busy print but it really does work. Can't wait to see more!

    That wide neckline and inward angled strap was a ‘thing’ on dresses, but I never saw that on a pinafore dress. (I was a teenager in the 50’s). I just wrote ‘button the straps’ then had to delete it! Wow! That colour is amazing on you… Loved the ‘Button Burlesque’

    Here is a tip: find the best fitted simple blouse pattern you have and use that to draft your top. Match the darts, sides, arm holes, and shoulders, then extend to the center front if you feel you are coming up short. I promise you it is the best way to get patterns to fit you when you have no one else to help.

    What I love about things like pumpkin patterned textiles (specifically not cartoony jackolanterns but more autumn feel prints) is that they are absolutely perfect for being Halloween without being gimmicky. Nothing wrong with gimmicky but I love that classy spoopy everyday casual for my daily life.

  • @FlybyStardancer
    @FlybyStardancer 2 года назад +2

    Part of the problem with the gapping at the top of the chest is because the dress was drafted for a smaller cup size than what you have. cutting out the size using your upper bust measurement for the bust and doing a FBA should help with both that gapping and the darting towards the arm scythe that often happens as well. FBAs are MAGICAL.
    Also I LOVE your idea for the spooky strawberry dress!!!

    • @ReneePowell
      @ReneePowell 2 года назад

      Yes, seconding the FBA! That gives you the curvature you need foe the larger cup size by taking out fullness in the side, rather than using a curved center front seam. It also means the back won’t be too wide and need to be taken in above or below the bust line.

    Hey, I just started watching your channel and I follow a couple other people in sewing as well and I am a beginner sewer. I have been trying to find a good Edwardian skirt pattern that I don't have to print out (I don't have a printer) and I was wondering if I got a Victorian skirt pattern could it be turned into an Edwardian skirt? Thank you!☺️

      Welcome! You could get away with it with an 1890s pattern, but I know you can also buy the physical patterns from Truly Victorian, and they have Edwardian patterns too.

      Thanks! It's from Target. Though it looks like most sizes/colors are sold out now. www.target.com/p/women-39-s-striped-puff-short-sleeve-button-down-shirt-universal-thread-8482-white-xxl/-/A-81858362

    So if you like Queens Gambit, Mood has a free pattern called "the Gambit dress". I downloaded it and cut it out... But got intimidated.
