I have been wanting to make a Halloween version of the Strawberry Dress since about August 2020, but just couldn't find the right fabric last year. But now I found it! I have decided to make my Spooky Strawberry dress into Spooky Strawberry (or Spiderweb) Separates, and get the versatility of a matching skirt and bodice combo. This week's video is all about the skirt!
This is a gathered circle skirt, made of four layers -- one cotton layer, two glitter tulle layers, and one glittery spiderweb mesh layer on top. And naturally, it had to have pockets, and a side zip. So in this video, I'll be going over how to put pockets and a side zip into a multi-layer tulle skirt. I hope you enjoy the video!
This spooky spiderweb ensemble is part of the Whimsical Witches costube collab. Check out the rest of the videos here: • #whimsicalwitches

You certainly confused me. In the UK a jumper isn't a dress, it's another name for a sweater😂.
Like the dress anyway!
I have a friend who always says glitter is the cold sore of the craft world - highly communicable.
With the Peter Pan collar, my first thought was of a teenage Wednesday Addams' brief rebellious phase where she flirts with glitter. The layering looks really nice. It gives the whole thing a wonderful amount of depth.
I do love the swish of the skirt, but wow is that glitter trail intense.
That's what Gretel should have worn instead of trying to make bread crumbs work
Wow, that's a lot of glitter, it's like tinkerbell has a house party in there. The skirt is magnificently magically spoopy!
Dora sounds like our cat Lucy. We were making some tulle petticoats for some costumes and I went to make a cup of coffee. I come back to see Lucy body deep in the tulle, having the time of her life. Needless to say, not much sewing was done for the next hour, as we tried to convince Lucy to give us the tulle back.
This skirt turned out super cute, I love the way you layered the sheer fabrics to create the look. I just wish someone would create a glitter fabric that doesn't shed glitter.
One of these days you should make a black petticoat for fun Halloween-y fashions like these. :)
There is a good option! It’s not quite glitter, but shiny plastic-y dots in various colours/shapes on tulle. It doesn’t quite catch the light the same way, but it won’t shed.
Fabricland Canada has a costuming fabrics section which is particularly well stocked this time of year. Which contains a number glitter, sequin, or the embedded shiny bits I mentioned.
I wonder if a layer of clear spray paint would work to secure the glitter bits, without making the base fabric weird... kinda like hair spray on charcoal drawings
That glitter craftermath is intense, but worth it!🖤💜🖤💜🖤
Thank you! Craftermath is my new favorite word 😀❤
That secret pocket zipper trick is genius
Oh mum look....the Autum Fairy left a glittery trail behind.... very fitting. 🕸🕷
There’s supposed to be a notch in the seam allowance under the pocket?! Well that’s a terribly simple solution.
I thought the issues I was having were from doing things in the wrong order. Which, could also be making things less simple, but I think the snip would solve some things!
The pockets in a skirt with a tulle overlay, and the size zipper beside a pocket, I apparently had figured out - if I had done that snip. :)
Not the thing I expected to learn, but I got my answer.
Wow! I love it. For myself, I'd make it without glitter. I still have glitter IN my machine from 3 years ago.
And so did she go forth, distributing glitter the world around, from now until the end of time!
I love the idea that there is glitter all over your yard.
Just think! The next time you clean the lint out of your sewing-machine, it will sparkle!
It really seems a shame just to wear it around halloween
The Spooky Glitter Fairy 🧚🏻♀️
I don't personally care for the spiderweb theme, but I do love this swishy skirt! It looks great on you, and I know you are going to enjoy wearing it!
I need to see more skirts like this, with all the layers, but maybe minus the glitter xD I had the idea of like different seasonal skirts if they have patterns for other seasons like the webbing
omg, when you twirled at 21:15 I shouted aloud, "OMG, IT''S SO GOOD!!!" I love big twirly skirts like this. Congrats!
Glitter on the floor, what balderdash... Imagine you are walking on stardust 🌟✨🌟😸
The presentation is just amazing! This is what I love most, I mean the clothes are important too, but such presentation is about everything - the skirt, the mood, the atmosphere, even the dance! Now I want to make a circle skirt and go and dance in an autumn park :D
Ah glitter. Our greatest love, and our greatest enemy.
Hear me out: a purple removable Peter Pan collar with the skirt layers and ribbon closure at the back!
You are going to be finding glitter in your house and on your person for the rest of your life haha
It's a wonderfully spooky spinny skirt! Very sneaky touch with the zipper. Thanks for sharing!
Love this one but boy what a lot of glitter .I like the way you explain how you do every part of the garment. It makes it easy to follow for new girls starting.I was lucky my teacher was amazing and helped a lot.And I learnt more as I got older 🥰
I love how a circle skirt twirls!
A lady after my own heart. Purple, fabric, tull, and black lace with spider webs. I love it. Oct31 st is my 26 year Anniversary. So you see we love it.
I never got excited about the whole strawberry dress thing. BUT I LOVE this spiderweb skirt! I so looking forward to seeing you in it with the 1890 top
Adorable, let the Halloween parties begin
Sometimes I give a wee bit of hairspray to my glittery fabric. I mean it's not foolproof who knows if it actually works for keeping glitter on but worth a try.
Yaaaassss spooky queen!!! She is a spooky goddess
Love that skirt! So shimmery and swooshy and fun! Glitter trail! XD Can't wait to see it with the bodice/s!
Such a cute skirt! You should get lots of praise for that one!
You know you're stuck with that glitter for the rest of your life right? ;) Lovely skirt though. Totally worth it.
Oh, cute dog!
Glitter, the gift that keeps giving
More options = better!!!
And I'm still trying to wrap my head around how you put the zipper in the pocket with all those layters and brain's registering "TILT"... so I'm going to go with my original plan for my two layer skirt, elastic waistband (sometimes not having much in the way of hips does make things easier)...
Looks lovely, even if it's a glitter-bomb every time you think about touching it!
I'm squeezing at this video! I so want this skirt!💜💜💜 just no glitter heheh this is going to be amazing on you! O and congratulations on the sponsorship!
Aaaaah now I want a skirt like that of my own!
Beautiful!
Thank you!
This turned out really well. Halloween all the time!
You do that so beautifully without bunching up all the fabric at the waist! I admire you so much! That's gorgeous, and you are so lovely in it! Congrats!!
I love the skirt it looks terrific. But all that glitter you are going to have it on everything for the next 6 months
I love it, and NEED a swishy Halloween skirt. Not sure about having glitter EVERYWHERE though. ♥
What a gorgeous skirt, loving the swish it has. I can’t thank you enough for your tutorials as you construct your clothes. Thank you so much ❤️
I love all spooky dresses!!!!
You'll convince every child in your neighborhood that fairies are real if you do end up wearing it going out. :}
Glitter!!!! Gorgeous :D
This is so pretty. Gertie has a pattern for a spider web skirt and top that’s done with couching. I’m thinking about couching a web onto purchased sweater and making this skirt to go with.
It turned out so beautifully!! Love the swish it looks amazing when you spin! There was a bit of a glitter on your revile pictures so it’s all good.
You are much braver than I!! I live in a glitter free home at least as glitter free as I can get it!!!
Fun. When I sewed with glitter tulle, I even had glitter on the ceiling. It's beautiful but if you mind the cleanup for years to come, if might not be a good choice.
Love it. I want one
that's why i prefer to mess around with pieces of metal. heck, even plastic beads. but glitter is just, ew. i'm super super sensitive and can feel the stuff stick to my skin even worse than the way my skin tingles from my own stray hairs haha T_T i guess you grew up on disney movies, makes me think of those dresses. really nice work on the layering tho, i love it how you've arranged the different textures together, i should try something similar 8) and it fits so well with that top too
I love this skirt!
Now I wish I had my sewing machine because I want to make this so bad! ToT
Gorgeous
I want a swishy skirt like that! Omg I love it!!!!
Absolutely lovely❤❤❤
That glitter though... It reminds me of a beautiful cotton I bought for making masks(thankfully I came to my senses before I ended up with a face full of glitter)
Looks lovely!
It’s so so cute!! Is there a video you have where you explain in detail how to draft a gathered circle skirt? I’m obsessed!
Thank you! I think I talk about it in the purple jumper dress video from this spring, and a little bit in last week's pumpkin pinafore video. It's basically just, find the radius of your waist (or larger, if you want the waist gathered), plant your ruler in the corner of the folded fabric, measure down your radius measurement, and draw a quarter circle for your waist. Then from that new circle, you'll mark your length out with the ruler and draw a big quarter circle there.
So cute!
Awesome!
How did I not see this for a week! - Beautiful I love it
Thank you! It's only out for patrons so far (or possibly people who have stumbled on it from a playlist). 😉
I think I would have done the waistband differently myself, so that the glitter wouldn't touch anything I'm wearing underneath.
I LOVE how your spooky skirt came out!! It's the perfect length & has a ton of swooshiness! :D I wonder how it would look with another crinoline underneath... (I have a cosplay skirt that I made with a bustle that I like to wear with 2 crinolines as I LOVE how poofy it gets! XD) I should look for similar fabric & make myself a Halloween skirt! :D
Thank you! I've never thought about wearing two crinolines with it!
@@LadyRebeccaFashions You're welcome! I say try it & if you don't like how it looks, one crinoline is also good. :D
Fabulous skirt and so nice to see Lion again, he’s the cutest little man. Is Dora a glitter all?
I think she managed to avoid most of the glitter! And thank you!
I adore the sparkle of the glitter but gosh the shedding is intense. Have you considered spraying those layers with a dusting of fabric adhesive or even hairspray? Just a thought to try and avoid having all of your wonderful ✨ fall off.
I hadn't thought about that, but I feel like that also might make the layers stick together...
They might. Hmmm 🤔… perhaps a light misting of clear spray paint? Not heavy enough to make the fabric stiff or crunchy, because obviously the swoosh is part of the fun. I’m sure you have a few cabbage scraps you could test on though. There must be a solution that doesn’t require vacuuming every two minutes or losing all your sparkles.
It twirls beautifully!
I have purchases glitter tops before and just being on a hanger it sheds glitter, so I am used to that. Fortunately, I really like glitter, so it is ok with me. I love the skirt!!! All of the layers are great and your patience really showed when you had to seam each layer separately on the sides. Do you remember how much yardage it took for the spider fabric? I'd like to make one similar, but not quite so poofy. I'm already larger than you and don't want to add the look of poundage! LOL! Thanks so much and can't wait to see how you put a new bodice with it as well!
Thank you! I think I bought 6 yds of the spider fabric total, and I still have plenty for the bodice.
I've heard that if you spray the fabric with hair spray it will help stop the glitter from dropping everywhere. I havn't tried this myself as I haven't made anything with sparkles (I know, poor me!). Please let me know if this works for anyone. The tulle and net give the skirt a lovely drape!
I feel like that would make the layers stick together too!
Love this....dread the glitter...wonder if the glitter would gome off mostly in a pre wash....given I can prevent it from balling up
I'm not sure -- you might wind up with no glitter left at all after washing! And thank you!
@@LadyRebeccaFashions no glitter would make it year around wear...I shall test my glitter removal theory.
Wonders how much glitter you left outside with the twirling
ooh a hat?! like a witchy hat or like a Lydia Deets hat or ...???
My goal is oversized witchy.☺️
Yay top 10 likes and comments
This is confirming I NEVER want to sew with glitter fabric…
LOVE it, but this reminds me of my love/hate relationship with glitter. ✨ 😍😒 Question: can you show the support for the skirt in a future video; it looked like maybe white netting with maybe a fish line-filled serger rolled hem to poof it out? It makes it so beautifully swishy!
Thank you! It's a Malco Modes petticoat -- highly recommend, and they're having a huge sale right now! amzn.to/3zpSzGZ
@@LadyRebeccaFashions Sweet-thank you!!!
💙💗💜 the skirt. How much extra fabric do you add around the waist line to get it to ruffle so nicely? Is it twice the amount of our waste?
Thank you! This one is not quite twice, but you can really do it at any amount. I think I may have given the exact measurements of the waists in the pumpkin dress video, since that's where I cut them all out.
Lady Rebecca Fashions thank you!
A pretty outfit you wore at the end of the video. I would recommend such an outfit for goth-leaning people. Those were black tights you wore with the skirt, right?
Thank you! And yep, black tights. I pretty much live in the 120 denier tights from Target in the fall/winter.
@@LadyRebeccaFashions You're welcome, and I thought so. I used to wear full tights as a kid, but I now live in leggings all year. I'm not sure if you've noticed, but there seems to be a debate on whether panties should be worn under tights. Personally, I always wore panties under tights and leggings, but would you be comfortable admitting where you stand on such a debate?
@@cartoonygothica I always wear underwear under tights (or anything else for that matter).
@@LadyRebeccaFashions That makes two of us. I've heard it's more hygienic too.
Pockets are the devil. Ok I understand. :) Lol
Bad kitty, we now have a bad kitty his name is Rocco (Nibbs - Katz ) a black cat with blue eyes 2-3 weeks old out of my 8 yr situation with my 3rd niece again and spotty wifi that can be corrected.
Where did you get that spiderweb fabric anyway?
Joann's!
This proves why I hate Satan’s dandruff (glitter). It’s not worth the clean up. Looks great though.
I'm having ptsd from that glitter
Nah you just renovated your sewing room and got new floors 😂😂😂 sparkly ones. it looks like me after sew fake fur on a dress.
See it as fairy dust..
The first time I sewed fake fur, it was winter, and I was wearing a wool jumper (sweater). BIG mistake.
