- Happy Halloween! It's time to put the finishing touch on my Glitter Witch costume for the #whimsicalwitches collab -- I need a giant witch hat!
I got it in my head that I wanted a huge witch hat, and I wanted to make it out of buckram, and yet, I couldn't find any tutorials about buckram witch hats. So hopefully if you've thought of using this method to make a with hat, this video will be helpful for you.
What are you going to be for Halloween? Any fun plans? Let me know in the comments!

When you mentioned not pre-washing the cotton for the hat, my brain instantly went: Ah, that's why witches can't go out in the rain. It's not that they melt, it's because their hats aren't waterproof! 😂
Hahahahaha!!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
My husband thinks I'm crazy because when you ran out of purple fabric... I was yelling, "Piece it" at the screen, "It's the bottom layer and it's on a hat - the join won't even show!!!"
Loving the cartoonish aspect of the hat.
I thought that same exact thing 😁
Same it!
Didn’t she just run out of fabric tho? Nothing left to piece?
@@AntelJM No. I'm pretty sure she said she had a piece that wasn't long enough for the bigger cone, AND the cone piece she'd already cut-out in the smaller size. That sounds like plenty to piece together to make a long enough cone.... Plus, there must have been offcuts from making the skirt and bodice.
My mind probably went straight to piecing because I'm use to doing it on Medieval and 16th Century garments where piecing scraps together to make a big enough panel of fabric is perfectly period (that and and I'm too lazy to run out and shop for extra yardage if I can possibly avoid it)
I did the same thing...."Just piece it!"
The hat is piece-de-resistance that brings the whole outfit together - what a lovely witch 🧙♀️!
if you want you can spray the hat with a couple of coats of hairspray , that stuff keeps glitter from falling , just go to the 99 cent store and grab a couple cans ultra hold works best i have found ( remember i do a lot of doll dresses ) lol
Aqua Net is great for glitter and pastel chalks too. I never used it on my hair in the 80’s but used it on lots of art projects
Yeah, we also do that with figure skating dresses.
Thanks for the hack. I would never have though of that.
Ooooo, that is a great idea.... I did see a similar one where you mix normal pva glue/ school elmers glue and water in a spray bottle... but then it didn't spray. Might try that out.
looove all the problem solving and rambling. The sewing is great too, but hearing how you figure stuff out is so wholesome to listen to.
Ohhh baby Dora. Hugs to her. Lol you look adorable
Don’t worry about the fit issue-forget the wig just do a tight little professor McGonnagal bun inside or just wear wispy hair attached to the hat. I loved the blue wig btw! The hat looks gorgeous with the spider 🕷 outfit!
The outfit ABSOLUTELY needed the hat. Now I want a sun hat like it for the beach.
I think the purple looks perfectly whimsical with your lovely red hair-the colors look great together!
Poor Dora. I hope she heals up quickly.
I love the way the hat turned out. It really brings the whole outfit together.
We'll be taking our son to our towns Trunk-or-Treat tomorrow evening. He and I will be carving pumpkins soon. He's been so excited for this weekend.
Sending lots of love for Dora🥰. Love the hat. Just the thing you needed to add some extra adorableness to the whole thing. I love it 😍
Big hat, big curly point -- ABSOLUTE PERFECTION!!! Poor Dora! (I'm picturing a Nut Cracker=esque fight).
I'm loving the had. It reminds me of the Sorting Hat with your wire bending. :)
Poor Dora, hope she feels better soon ❤ Love the outfit and the hat is my absolute favourite part!!
You were so right about the black on the underside of the hat! You are as pale a Mortisha Adam's on the origional series! Fantastic! Love ALL the vibes you mentioned!
The hat is adorable. I send Dora tenderness and healing thoughts.
I appreciate you left your hair messy from showing us the fit of the hat! It's super relatable 😁 This is such a cute costume- I love it
Oh my goodness that purple color looks Divine on you with that red hair of yours. Just simply beautiful. And you were right the black underneath the hat actually made you look pale😊 Great job you subby
It is super cute. Millinery is not for the faint of heart and you did a fantastic job.
I am in love with your outfit. And that hat is AWESOME!! KEEP YOUR HAIR NATURAL and glam up.
I wish I had extra funds to help you with your vet bill. I will keep your baby Dora in my healing prayers. Have an awesomely spooky Halloween.
So cute. Hat brim perfectly shaped! I like your real hair with this outfit!
Lovely hat and outfit. Hope Dora gets better soon, I shall send some Reiki healing for her if that's OK with you. Best wishes xxx
I hear you about cats. My cat also had a mouse bite on his chest and it swelled up terribly. He was a cat with large ears, a true mouser. Thankfully he recovered. Love to you and Dora. Such a worry when your furry pals get hurt.
Loving the super large bendy witch hat! You're too stinking cute, Rebecca.
Have a great time tomorrow,
xoxo's Sandie
The hat came out gorgeous!! A very lovely witch costume!!
You make a wonderful addition to the Sanderson Sisters coven in this outfit!
The hat just makes that outfit!
Outside the fit issue this turned out so good! Thank you for sharing the process.
Dora!!! Poor little kitty! Gentle hugs to you both for quick healing. I thought the outfit was super cute last week but now it’s super cute times a hundred with such a glorious hat! Fantastic! I was smiling the whole time during the reveal. Wonderful! Keep us updated on Dora, we care. 😊❤️
The hat is just gorgeous - as is the whole outfit! I've really enjoyed your whimsical witch series! I watched another you-tuber, minjalinjee, also make a buckram witches hat, and she discovered that you need to make the hole for your head an oval rather than round to help avoid tightness. I highly recommend her channel too, she's a wonderful sewist!
For Halloween, I'm having a picnic with friends (but a week late to time with everyone being fully vaccinated). Halloween has only in the last 10-15 years become something we celebrate in Australia, so I'm super excited every year to find more and more people who like it!
Your costume is fabulous, and you look amazing in it! What fun it must be to wear. 🙂
omg... you look simply amazing in this outfit with hat... i totally want to steal it from you... you did a wonderful job on this project... thank you for sharing it with us... now i want to make myself one...
ps: will you please post a pic on instagram of your fabric samples...
Thank you! And do you mean like a close-up of the fabrics?
@@LadyRebeccaFashions yes. i'm sorry i wasn't more specific. that was my bad.
@@CuteSeamus I show them closely in this video, around the 6:00 mark, when I'm introducing all my fall projects: ruclips.net/video/FgLOBBXvHaA/видео.html
OMG, so cute!! The entire outfit is to dis for, but the hat is so wonderfully whimsical.💙
Most awesome hat ever! Its over the top in all the right ways.
I think this turned out great. The hat pins really add to the whole vibe!
Just perfection! You killed the look with that hat. 😍😍😍😍
Purry get better Dora wishes. I had a cat get bit in a cat fight that abscessed and poor Dora brought back those memories. Big hugs for both of you and thank you for the videos ❤️
Love the fab hat, u r the best dressed witch. Love to ur poor fur baby, hope she is better soon.😊
This, honestly, is my favorite outfit of the Whimsical Witches and really any other outfit I've seen this year. It's perfect! (I do miss the blue hair but maybe you might just give that a go soon. It's a great color for your skin.) And, btw, coming from a real life witch, you get a huge stamp of approval for the outfit and the glam-witch esthetic. Bravo!
the hat is great. the whole outfit is amazing.
I completely identify with the trauma of cutting first and rethinking dimensions after... sometimes it's a golden opportunity, but more often for me it just means extra scraps for quilting and a (permanently) delayed or abandoned project. Glad you could find more fabric and finish the hat -- also, the hat tutorials are wonderful. I haven't done hats before, but am looking forward to the adventure when I get there!
The entire costume is spookylicious! There was one thought I couldn’t get out of my head as you made the hat - this is what the Sorting Hat would look like if it had originally belonged to Dumbledore rather than Gryffindor 🤣
Very beautiful witch!!! 💜💜💜
I LOVE the whole outfit!
The hat came out great. This is such a fun look for Halloween. All my best to your kitty!
I really enjoy your videos - your enthusiasm & joy are infectious! I used to make specialty hats for a friend who was a costumer at a local theatre. Due to budget restraints, I usually had to start with an existing hat and fabric and trims we had on hand. Even with those constraints, I did make a few really extraordinary confections! This video has actually taught me a lot about construction of the base hat. (Also I donated to your Ko-fi to help poor, brave little Dora)!
Thank you so much! ♥️
This entire lewk is EVERYTHING!!!! I love the hat...it really topped the outfit!! (see what I did there...lol) You really have me wanting to make a big witchy hat! :D
The hat looks really good.
Very cool. Fabulous costume.
it's phenomenal! you look amazing ~ & love the 90s goth-witch, too cute
The hat came out great. I think you should add a spider 🕷 on the tip of the cone with some thread. The whole outfit is awesome.
love the hat. The whole outfit is amazing.
Love it! So cute and whimsical💜💜💜 the entire outfit is sooo amazing!!! And now I need to make a witches hat...poor little Dora, what a mean mouse that bitt her...
Super cute! You do such nice work, I don't know how you just keep going making all this stuff. I have made hats for myself all my life, due to having a rather large head.(Back when my hair was a more orange shade of red, one of my exes called me "Pumpkin Head". I think he meant it in a nice way.) Anyway, I found if the crown could not be pulled down to at least touch the tops of both ears and the nape of my neck, I wasn't comfortable wearing the hat. So that's where I did my head measurement. They way they used to fit men's hats they wanted them up higher on the head, so they measured more horizontally around the skull. I think your hat looks fine, but as you say, a hatpin might be in order.
Oh, poor Dora. I hope she is healing quickly. I think the hat would have looked witchier with stuffing to softly poof out the cone and it would have given a gentle transition from the buckram. That ghostly ribbon is super. Oh, Dora, Dora, Dora....my heart.... 😢😿😢
That hat is fabulous!
i love experimental crafting! on to the rest of the video
I love it so much! It looks absolutely amazing and fits the rest of the outfit so well!!
Also I hope Dora is going to be better very soon! Poor lady, it's not easy being a mouse fighter.
It's so cute!! The giant floppy witch hat of my dreams!
Lady Rebecca loved your witch hat! It's a marvel in sparkly purpleness! It compliments your outfit to a tee 😊 At the reveal you came close to the camera and for a flash I saw Glinda the good witch! I can soooo see you as Glinda! Please say you will think on it for next year!!! 🧡🧡🧡🎃❤🍁
I love that hat. It is perfect.
I love the look!!! You look amazing. I don’t think you need to worry about the wig. The outfit will look wonderful either way!!
I’m also very glad to hear that Dora is doing well!! Nothing worse than realizing that they are sick!!
Love everything about this outfit!
That is totally wow just fabulous
Love it! Brilliant and inspirational!
This is perfection!! And definitely your color!! Beautiful! Thank you so much for being part of the #WhimsicalWitches collab!
Yessss! The hat looks great! Bow is so nice - Edwardian, yeah!
This outfit is amazing!!! 🧙♀️🖤🎃🖤🧙♀️
Oh my goodness you’re so funny I was looking only at your hat when you pointed out your hair at that point when you were talking about your wires in your hat! You are so adorable!
Poor Dora!!!
This was really helpful -- thank you! My husband made a giant wizard hat (Starswirl the Bearded of My Little Pony), and it sort of tends to screw off of his head, so we talked about redoing it at some point. The buckram would give the unicorn horn a more solid base and would maybe be a little less floppy as well. Hmm...
You nailed my dear, have a witchy good time on Halloween
Love the hat!! I'd really love if you could do a tutorial for photo posing as when you do the reveals, you are always so good at the posing and also the facial expressions which really bring your creations alive.
Thank you! Have you watched this video yet? I talk about posing in here: ruclips.net/video/u9bvNOZoPzc/видео.html
Un sombrero base para hacer otro. Gracias por la idea. Quedo muy hermoso y original.
I absolutely love your natural hair with the hat. From one sparklewitch to another, you should go with your real hair. Red hair and purple go excellent together. Love the whole thing. I am of the same body type as you and it gives me confidence that if I just dress right I could look as beautiful as you. Your creations are so beautiful and look so lovely on you.
Very very nice!! Great job!!
this was awesome! for halloween we are going trick r treating but tonight we will make yummy home treats and stay up late watching scary movies
I truly love this outfit! Now I want one too!❤️
Loved it you did a great job on the whole outfit
You are adorable!!! I enjoyed watching your video. Your outfit is amazing !!! I’m looking forward to watching more of your videos 🎃🧙Happy Halloween
You're a brave soul to hot glue and sew any part of a hat on your machine (I'm too chicken to do that, so I've always hand sewn hats I've made...). All in all, a beautiful hat, and purple is definitely your most flattering color! A wig isn't really necessary, but IF you wear a wig, you might be able to attach black or purple satin ribbons to act as ties so your hat will stay on (think of the famous portrait called Pinky - a young regency girl with a bonnet on. She is the complement to the portrait called "Blue Boy"). You'd have a sort of Jane Austen-y romantic witchy look :-D Hope your costume knocks 'em dead this Halloween!
I'm sorry your silly kitty won't leave the mices alone.
Hat looks fantastic, I think it really did need to be that big!
And I admire your restraint, things getting snagged in my hair causes instant rage for me....
Amazing as usual. You look lovely in the outfit:)) Love it
Thank you!
Stupendous! Happy Halloween! The bow really brought the brim and cone together. You've done it again with a great outfit. The glam was a good call! Your belt is riding up. You might want to tack it in a couple of places in the front, on each side, and a couple of places in the back to keep it in place. Or, add some snaps to belt, skirt and blouse?
I looooove it!!! Feel better poor little Dora kitty! I have no money to spare to help ( am so sorry, I know what it is like to have unpleasant surprise vet bills), but I am sending many healing kitty well wishes. Please give Dora health updates in the coming week to let us know how she is doing.
Bigger is better, good choice 👍
The hat came out super cute!
For Halloween-this year it’s falling on gaming night for my friend group, and we’re playing a two-shot inspired by gargoyles. For a costume I ended up buying a dinosaur/croc onesie, and I made a set of gold plush horns so I could be Croki (alligator Loki). I also purchased a Loki tiara as back up.
Forget to wish you happy Halloween from Victoria, Australia 🇦🇺
I usually Bobby pin my hair on the underneath of the brim and let the ends fall. Looks good! BTW, I've noticed on several of your outfits that you could benefit from a black petticoat.
You are fabulous :) Happy Halloween!! We do a light show to music on Halloween and Christmas. Its so much fun to sit outside and see the families dance to the music while we pass out candy. ps, I did get my Halloween skirt from a tablecloth made just in time.
Oh my gosh, I love that you do a light show! Those are always so cool to me, and I kind of wish I had the know-how to put one together. And thank you!
total success
Poor sweet kitty! It looks like that abcess was huge!
Haha lately I love doing binding
Great job!
I wonder if you lightly sprayed the glitter fabric with hairspray or clear adhesive if it would help keep the glitter from shedding quite so bad. Of course you would want to test it before spraying your garment
Handing out candy until 7 pm, then watching Doctor Who!
Just a note on helping you hat to stand up more . You could stuff the cone with a plastic bag. That could give it support and stay light weight on head .🎃
Love it!!
Wonderful! I am so glad that Dora is OK, BTW ... I used to work at a vet's office, and abscesses can be very nasty :( Glad she's OK, though
I'm glad Dora is okay!
BEAUTIFL JOB !!!!
