Making a Witch Hat for Halloween | Autumn Witchy Millinery
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 13 авг 2024
- This is the last making video of this series and we're just finishing up some accessories! I have a love hate relationship with millinery. I love the results of good millinery so much and there are some parts of the process I really enjoy but GOD do I hate hand sewing buckram, my poor fingers 😭 But it's worth it in the end! Most of this video covers the process of making a buckram witch hat, with the very last bit of the video making a simple staff with a candle holder. Stay tuned for next week's reveal!

Baby Bat won't help with intro, but she will photobomb in the background, sneaky girl. It has never occurred to me how much engineering could go into a witch hat. That little charm is killing me with adorableness. Now I kind of tempted to pilfer the idea for a doll costume... More witch outfits are always welcome, just saying. 😉
omg please pilfer away, you can definitely take my ideas! and baby bat is so uncooperative haha, she loves to hang out but hates being the center of attention 😋
Me: have 150 projects that I am in the middle of,
Minjalinjee: Here is a witch hat!
Me: …. 151 projects….
yesss always adding to the mountain of projects haha
Oh thank you for this comment, now I feel better lol.. Me: 178 projects going on 😂
A couple years ago I wanted to make a witch hat and searched all over for a RUclips tutorial with very little luck. The universe has answered my request and now there are many more this year! Your video is the best one so far! I really love it! 😍
aw thank you I'm so glad you found it helpful!!
An annual witch costume would be great! Love the hat!
yesss glad you think so haha will definitely have to do a yearly witch!
I love the yearly witch idea! You’re so creative and talented I’d love to see what you do each year, especially the Hex girls!!
i'm glad I'm getting so many votes for a yearly witch! yess hex girls, literally would fulfill my childhood dreams to dress up as thorn
you're seriously one of the most talented, creative and knowledgeable creators on this platform!!!!! I love the yearly witch idea!
aah thank you so much this is so kind 😭💕 I really appreciate it, and I'm glad you liked it! Yearly witch seems to be a popular idea so I guess I have no choice now haha 😋
Such a well-structured garment, almost a bit too much, but it holds the perfect witch-hat shape. Really great
You always do such a great job of breaking down the complex steps of a project like this and making them seem accessible and manageable. I never would have thought to create the bends in the understructure that way - probably would have spent hours and hours trying to slash and dart the buckram before just giving up entirely, LOL. The results are so clean and crisp, beautifully shot, and really well articulated!!
I'm doing my own witch hat and is far too late to implement everything i learned from this video but it was fascinating and I'm exited to see what i can do next year, I think I'll take part in the tradition of making a new witch costume every year, I would love to see more Millinery videos, I didn't even know that was a word until I saw your videos.
Ah I'll make sure to pick more projects that involve millinery! And good luck with your hat! Do you post your work to instagram or anywhere? I'd love to see it! It'd be so much fun to do a community witch project next year and get to see everyone's work 😊
That hat is gorgeous!!! So so so cool. I really enjoyed the hat making progress and I am aaaallll for yearly witches. Thumbs up for Baby Bat for sure lol.
thank you so much! haha yearly witches will definitely have to happen, I'm hoping I can rope more people in and I can do a community witch project every year and find everyone on instagram or somewhere 😊
Love this! I love the curved hat shape and the little charm, so cute! Can't wait for the full reveal vid 😃
*Edit to say YES to the annual witch series, I am 100% in favour
aah thank you I'm glad you liked it!
I absolutely LOVE how the witch hat came out! I love the bent nature and the charm.. ugh it's perfect!
thank you!!! I'm glad you liked it haha, I was very pleased with the charm 😊
That hat is a feat of engineering. Well done, you.
And the staff is wonderful.
- Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
haha thank you! it definitely took some adjustments to get the right degree of 'swoopiness' super technical haha
@@moth.faerie When you literally break the hat down into component parts, it makes perfect sense. Having the thought process to get you there... nice skill set. Madam, I bow.
I’ve made witches hats for Halloween, kid’s costumes . The last one I made was made similar to yours , I didn’t think of cutting up to get the look , instead I sewed in a thread , made it gather, sew , repeat process , till I got to the end , looked good ! I love the brocade fabric, I don’t know what material you used to make it stiff ! Great tutorial!
I love the hat, with the little charm off the top. Super cute touch!
Thank you!
I really like the idea of making a new witch costume every year, but I like the idea of you making one every year even if WE wouldn’t like that idea even better 😎
haha thank you for the support either way, i like your attitude 😊
A sweet witchy vibe is always a pleasure! Us Witches and Goblins are here for it!!
aw thank you! I'm glad you liked it!
I love this hat! I've wanted a proper witches hat for many years, I'll definitely be looking back at this when I finally get around to it XD
thank you! do you post your work anywhere? I'd love to see when you do make one!
@@moth.faerie I did make a sewing insta but I literally never post on it XD I pretty much only use socials to share my illustration work, where I'm smalltownspells basically everywhere.
I'll definitely post it and tag you if I make one though!
@@SmallTownSpells yes please tag me!!
More witchy costumes are definitely welcome. The first Harry Potter Diagon Alley scene has a few I would love to make. Plus, a copy of McGonagall's winter hat with ear flaps...it looks warm. But I can't draw an oval to save my life! Or, 😕 Winifred Sanderson, Agatha Cromwell from Halloweentown...remote control carpet bag, anyone?
there are bendy rulers that keep the shape you put them in that make the oval process a lot easier! if you look up flexible ruler you should be able to find it. then you can wrap it around your head, place it on the paper, and have an approximate oval that you can then smooth out.
ooh I'm going to have to rewatch and keep an eye out for those diagon alley hats! omg the ear flaps they're so CUTE I definitely want to make one! so many good ideas, at least I have all year to decide!
THE TITLTED WITCH HAT IS SO DAMN CUTE
The fabric folds give it such an unique character I don't know how to explain it but it's JUST SO CUTE
I did not know i wanted a witch hat but I DO NOW
Also the staff is cheff's kiss it looks so ... natural???? idk it was very cute everything came out so cuuuuute aaaaaaaaaaaaa
Ah thank you so much!!! You should totally make your own! If you do tag me on ig I’d love to see it 😊
@@moth.faerie oh I'd love to make one but I have no place to wear it ... Or keep it 😂 closet's way too full already
But maybe I could make one for my little sister 🤔
I love your hat, it’s so cute!!! I’m actually a practicing witch and I’m also very into costuming so this is ticking all the boxes for me :) I just discovered your channel yesterday (it was recommended while I was watch another costumer last night, I forget who right now) and I’m so happy the algorithm thought to suggest you! I’m subscribed now and I have several of your videos lined up to watch. Please do keep making new witch costumes, I’ll watch for any costumes I enjoy, but witches are especially fun! 🖤😊🖤
ah I'm so glad you like it! Definitely going to be making witch costumes for every halloween now, it seems like most people are very enthusiastic about the idea 😊thank you for watching and subscribing!
That turned out adorably! So sweet with the little charm. Thanks for sharing your project with us.
thank you so much! and thank you for watching, I'm glad you liked it!
Love the different interpretation of witch costume every year idea.
yay I'm so glad it seems to be a popular idea!
This video is so pleasing 🥰🍂
Love the idea of a new witch for every Halloween! Can we have a mid year Halloween for two🤣🤣
omg I would love two halloweens a year, maybe like christmas in july it can be halloween in may haha
Yes!!!
what a beautiful hat!! i suddenly also feel the need to make one
also i love your cat being in the background pretty much the whole time!
aw thank you! you should totally make one!
Your little black familiar has a lovely voice. 🐈. Also keep in mind hat pins are 100% on brand witch, a top knot and some fiendishly sharp and dangerous hat pins is very witchy.
haha thank you for the suggestion, I can be cute and have an easy method of self defense 😋
Very impressed with the hat!
Just found this channel 👍 The video lighting and everything is awesome! I made a wizard hat recently and definitely could have used this video! But at least I have some skills to use next time!
I'm really really glad I watched your technique of patterning out the bent cone of the hat, I never thought to do it that way in separate peices. I will remember this for the next witch hat I make. Your videos make me want to start going to school for costume design 😸
ah well thank you for watching, I'm glad you found it useful! I definitely learned a ton in school very fast, I would say its worth it if you're looking to learn a whole lot of things in a short amount of time
The hat looks absolutely stunning! Could you please tell us a little more about buckram- what type did you use and how did you layered it together?
What a talent you are ! I love watching you work I really do , iv got few videos to catch up on ,I had covid, a very bad case of it , after my 2 jabs too , so please make sure you stay safe , we have just bought a kitten ,( we already have 3 yorkies 😂, she’s gorgeous but wow never seen a cat climb a wall before, she’s everywhere
Thank you for a great video xx
aw thank you! and omg I hope you're feeling better that's so scary! I guess I'll be sticking to small get togethers again for a while, the renfest was my first big event in a while and honestly it made me really anxious to be around so many people 😅 I'm sorry that happened to you though! I hope the kitten is going well! they're so cute but such a handful
Just recently discovered your channel and can't stop binging it now! I'm stuck at home alone sick from corona and your videos bring me so much joy! Your skills are amazing and your sweet personality and adorable cats make your videos so wholesome and heart warming! Thank you for that! Also really like to do some hand stitching (mostly hemming curtains and other things atm) on the side while watching you being creative. Don't think I'll ever get to your level of skill, but it's an inspiration nonetheless :)
oh no feel better! i hope you have a speedy recovery! I'm glad you're enjoying my videos and they can keep you company during a miserable experience ❤ I'll tell the kitties you said hello
@@moth.faerie Thank you so much! Yes, please give them a pat from me :)
what a cute hat! Love how you made sure it bends the way you wanted it to. I may have to borrow this approach sometime later (or maybe never... I have more plans and ideas than time and energy ._.)
While I love your concern for safety I am sure you could use a true tea light for your staff! At least for short periods for photoshoots etc.! When I was little we used to have lantern parades in November to celebrate st. Martin (I'm sure those parades are still a thing but I'm not a kid anymore xD) and we had all those paper(!!!) lanterns with candles. (small children got electric lights for safety most of the time but you were so proud if you got a true candle because now you were "big" enough xD) and your lantern isn't paper but glass! glass should be totally fine!
I'm just so scared of glass shattering! Plus I set my hair on fire in a previous video 😅 Idk if open flames are the best idea for me haha but thank you for the vote of confidence!
This was amazing! So beautiful!
Thank you so much!!
This turned out super cute!
thank you! 😊
So excited to learn!!!
Omg! I loved the previous hat and I love this one too! How many witch hats do I need? At least one more!
hahaha thats the answer to everything I want more of, someday I'll have a giant witch hat collection
@@moth.faerie yes! And on that day you will have to do a video so we can all oooh and ah over how the collection has grown over the years!
I love the idea of a yearly witch outfit, that would be so fun. Also Baby Bat is adorable and perfect and an excellent addition to your filming set.
(Also sorry if all these comments are getting annoying.)
haha no worries, definitely not annoying! Baby Bat is definitely the best part of my sewing room 😋💕
Everything is so cute! I love the shape of the hat and the staff! I'm so excited to see the whole costume put together. I think it's a great idea to make the witch costumes into a annual thing! I'm excited for what you'll be doing next year.
thank you!! Yess annual witch costume I hope I can get other people do it with me 😊
@@moth.faerie that would be fantastic! I would love to see a group of creators making cute witch costumes like this!
Also, I finished my stays/corset thingy (still not sure which category this particular style falls into), one turned out really well and I will be wearing it often, the other one I ‘may have’ (I most certainly did) cut too short and the bust adjustment I did made it slightly too wide around the waist. It isn’t flattering at all, so more work on that one will be needed. D:
@@KittieRoses aah I wanna see! can you tag me or send a pic to me on instagram? and ugh I hate it when alterations go the wrong way, I hope it's an easy fix!
@@moth.faerie I'll try to get pictures posted this weekend! I'm hopeful the alterations wont be too difficult, but I will have to take off bias tape and what not, so it will be a little tedious. Going to be real friendly with my steam ripper.
@@KittieRoses ah yay please tag me in a comment or something! haha seam ripper is honestly my best frenemy
The work you did on this hat is amazing 🤩 Also Baby Bat look so very soft and cudly 😊
thank you! she is very soft but not very cuddly haha
Haha, yes, my cat; Kaos also looks very cudly but isn't really 😊
Oh My. This looks sooo cute!
Yes please, more witches. :)
Fantastic! I love seeing the progress you make each video 😁
thank you so much!
Very cool 😀
I absolutely love the sweater your wearing in the reveal!! Did you make (knit) it yourself?? I've been trying to find nice halloweeny/ autumn sweatera And I also really love this!! I so want to do this
Love the hat!
thank you!
I recently found your videos and thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I love the hat and am currently trying to make one myself. Question: How did you make te curve cone patterns from the taped up version to final?
I really enjoyed your video☆☆☆☆☆
👀
edit after watching the video lol: this turned out so cool!!
thank you!
Thank you for sharing your experience and expertise! It's so, so helpful
ah thank you I'm glad you found it useful!
Amazing ❤❤❤
This is awesome. I wish I could make myself a Halloween costume but unfortunately I'm away from my machine till Christmas. Guess I'll wear my 1895 skirt (made by me of course not an antique) and call it a day xd
Also I watched all of your videos last week and now I can't wait to see more
oh nooo I'm so sorry I'm always sad when I can't sew for a while 😭 an 1895 skirt sounds good for a halloween costume!! I'm glad you liked all the videos!
Hello! What is the base pattern you used my dear ??cause I love that hat and I want to make one of my own for an upcoming ren faire festival 😊😊😊
Is there a way to flatten out a felt cowboy hat brim?
These turned out so cute!
Ive always been intrigued by millinery, and love watching you make the hat. Is there a good beginners source for someone who's never done it and is curious?
thank you! Honestly I knew nothing about millinery before our required classes and we didn't use any kind of textbook so this is one of the few areas I have no beginner resources, I'm so sorry! I'm sure there are tons of people on youtube who are a lot more knowledgeable than me on the subject though!
@@moth.faerie no worries! I appreciate you taking the time to answer :)
@@moth.faerie also, i LOVE the idea of the yearly witch costume!
I’m loving your videos! I just found you a couple days ago! I love your cats and your creations! How’s your hair from being on fire?! I was so shocked and worried! Love baby bat and would love to meet all the other pets too! I would love to see how you pick your projects!
ah thank you so much! my hair is much better now haha, it's gotten much longer so probably due for a trim 😅 I only have one other pet - a little white cat named Honey Bee - he's the troublemaker and Baby Bat is the sweet angel haha. My next big project I chose a while ago (years ago at this point haha) so I don't even really remember why I picked it, but I'll try to include that in the next few projects afterwards! Thank you for the suggestion!
@@moth.faerie oh good! I’m excited to see what the new project will be! Aww!!! That’s so cute! I have a dog, a cat and 10 ball pythons. They are all trouble makers 😂
@@whimsicalmusedesign omg so many pets!!! I want a ton of cats eventually!
@@moth.faerie yeah it seems sometimes like I’m constantly cleaning but I love it! 🥰
❤
How does someone get into being able to do things like this and all of your other projects??
I love this! Looks great! I've always wanted to make hats and this makes me feel like I can! On a side note: I am totally loving all the fall themed sweaters! Did you make them or buy them? Are there patterns where I could knit some? 😝
Thank you! You should totally try it 😊 All the sweaters are bought or hand-me-downs! Knitting and crocheting are still skills I'm working on 😅 The first cream one was my great-grandmother's, the orange ghost one is from modcloth, and the red and green sweatshirts are from s2heartbunny! For knitting patterns I've been searching spooky/halloween themed fair isle sweater patterns but I'm definitely not good enough at knitting yet for those, I just like looking at them for now!
@@moth.faerie Knitting is my first love, you should totally try it! I'm definitely adding a hat to my to-make list for my 1890's ensemble!
Such a lovely tutorial! ☺️ I've just made my own witch hat so it was really fun to see someone else's way of doing it, and how I can improve it next time! Do you buy your buckram online? If so, from where? I've really struggled finding good stiffened buckram online!
thank you! I buy from Leko Millinery Supplies, it's still pretty bendy but fusing a couple layers together really helps with the stability
I read Autism Witchcrafts and instantly clicked
