There’s a reason you don’t see content produced at that scale anymore. People were throwing money into the internet back then with no idea how they’d turn a profit.

For a “news” type item like the terrorists invading the Capitol the old Onion would have used a glamorous news desk with a flash intro and a pair of immaculately attired ‘news anchors’ full of gravitas and with that air of authoritativeness.

It’s rough seeing it like this in comparison to 10-15 years ago with the maxed out production quality. I will say though, they are doing a good job matching the evolution of media and news. From sit down late night news debates with anchors which has been distilled down to people getting their news from tictok with subway surfers in the background in an AI voice.
Obv I wish for the old days, but there’s something to be said of how accurate it’s parodying modern media consumption
The old skits were from a TV series, but these videos were made for Tikitok, so they have a much smaller budget and much less screentime to pull people in and get them engaged
