- At 2:12 p.m. on Jan. 6, supporters of President Trump began climbing through a window they had smashed on the northwest side of the U.S. Capitol. “Go! Go! Go!” someone shouted as the rioters, some in military gear, streamed in. It was the start of the most serious attack on the Capitol since the War of 1812. The mob coursed through the building, enraged that Congress was preparing to make Trump’s electoral defeat official. “Drag them out! … Hang them out!” rioters yelled at one point, as they gathered near the House chamber.
Officials in the House and Senate secured the doors of their respective chambers, but lawmakers were soon forced to retreat to undisclosed locations. Five people died on the grounds that day, including a Capitol police officer. In all, more than 50 officers were injured.
To reconstruct the pandemonium inside the Capitol, The Washington Post examined text messages, photos and hundreds of videos, some of which were exclusively obtained. By synchronizing the footage and locating some of the camera angles within a digital 3-D model of the building, The Post was able to map the rioters’ movements and assess how close they came to lawmakers - in some cases feet apart or separated only by a handful of vastly outnumbered police officers. Well, that's the crazy thing. The election was fraudulent so the anger was justified. Trump pretty much won all the bellwethers yet somehow lost the election. It obviously stinks. 18 of 19 bellwether counties, Florida, Ohio, and Iowa (never has the loser won all 3 of those states), and voter enthusiasm higher than the challenger (very rare). Plus, republicans won 27 of 27 tossup races in the house. So yeah, just a few red flags.
For a country that spends more on Military and Defence then any other on the planet, it sure didn't take long to storm the capital building.

Defending US interest around the world with the most powerful military in the world but unable to defend the building that is considered as the centre of US Democracy. What an irony.
It was deliberate. The intelligence was in. They made the request for heightened security. Someone or some folks didn't want it defended. The insurrection would have worked if it hadn't been for those Capitol Police standing their ground until help finally arrived. It's amazing that they managed to evacuate ALL of the lawmakers safely. There are some medals that need to be handed out there.

it's not much of a "seige", when they were let in. The doors were opened, the police that opened the door were giving high fives and taking pictures with the ones they let in.

In a breach on US democracy like this, partisan opinion and affiliation becomes irrelevant. The truth is that lawmakers from both parties were threatened that day by radical rioters. This wasn't a protest for the good of the country, it was an insurrection that cost people their lives and almost toppled an institution. Whether you're Democrat or Republican, no one can deny the severity of what happened on January 6.

A handful of those rioters were willing to go way beyond that and execute the vice president for treason. Chantings for the deaths of some of those politicians were heard, captured and published, wasn't most of them but still it was highly criminal doing what they just did and it even resulted in innocents deaths, no matter how righteous their motives were they lost their right to be heard a credibility. You shouldn't be apologetic about this. These people are lead by the ones who claim to want change and improvement of their country but not so deep down their lust for power and greediness are way worse than those in power. Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, Salazar, Maduro and many many others are a perfect example of that. My country 45 years ago was a fascist regime and a bit before that began we were an absolutist monarchy... I studied those events at length and when you do that you start to see the patterns, history does indeed repeat itself specially for those unaware of it and the levels of ignorance and arrogance in your country are an all time high...

Officer Goodman was incredible. Professional, smart, and proactive. He strategically moved the mob away from the senate chamber and into that police line. He remained calm as he could be and was not aggressive. Well done.

You can look up maps of the building. Or just use graphics of the interior like the one displayed in this video at around 2:00. Not that hard to figure out especially when large media outlets like this display that kind of thing.
You just need to take a guided tour like I did last year, they show you where Pelosi's office is.

Thats Robert Glover, he is the commander of the emergency response team for the MPD. Around 30 minutes before that clip he watched as the riot officers he was commanding were rammed, pepper sprayed, and assaulted.

all public servants involved in this failed to see what the protestors or whatever you want to call them were trying to do, if they wanted blood there would have been a far higher casualty toll. the infamous picture of the protestor with plastic restraint's is all the proof you need to know their intent, they wanted all representatives arrested and put to trial. they wanted their representatives to be put before a jury of their piers for potential crimes against the country. they wanted justice as Americans are thought it should be given. does this justify their actions no. but it is an answer we all deserve as both their constituent's and citizen's of a government for the people by the people. we are accusing our representatives of betraying their office, why does this not warrant the same level of attention from our legal system as an accused say drug dealer, why do our representatives not deserve to be put before their piers and tried for the crimes and wrongs they may or may not have done? would it not be true justice to listen too so many saying they have been wronged by these individuals, and then investigating and even charging these individual should abuses of power be found? this is the only way i see forward without pushing this country closer and closer to a very dark answer that is inevitable should our government remain as it is, rather than one for the people not the backers.

I remember watching this live. I had been watching CSPAN all day and seeing it unfold in real time was crazy. Once I realized what was happening, I pulled up multiple news channels coverage of the rioters outside as well as a live stream from someone who was inside the capitol, I ran these side-by-side with CSPAN and it gave such a total and complete idea of what exactly was happening, all while seeing from multiple angles. It's oddly enough something I consider myself fortunate for having been able to see it happen live. such an important moment in our nations modern and overall history.
I remember catching it on my way home from work. I had to pull over and have a good cry before I could continue driving.
Just a few years before, I had brought my kids on a school trip to DC.
I started us out on the mall near the Washington Memorial. I gestured up and down the mall:
“See all this? This is space that’s _deliberately left open_ for Americans to gather and express our opinion on our government!”
I pointed at the Capitol: “See that? Lawmakers can’t avoid seeing us if we’re here protesting peacefully. And we’ve never ever abused this right!”
That’s why I cried at on January 6, 2021.

He's absolutely right, and it's why the Republican party deserves to be cast aside and removed from American politics forever. The way things are now all it would take is for a group of sane Conservatives to start a new party and the GOP would dissolve into a mess of extremist groups. It's already happening. Polling in November shows only 25% of American voters consider themselves Republican. That number can only have gone down and it's probably around 15-20% today.
