The U.S. got robbed not getting the TDCi's.
Having had three Audis I told my friend not to buy one and she bought it anyways, it was used and then shortly afterwards the camshaft broke and there was a $5000 repair bill, luckily she had insurance for repairs.

Happened to me, Thanks for telling our Volvo story Scotty. Burned 5QT’s every 500-1000Mi, switched to Mazda because of you. 2013 S60 AWD. God bless you Scotty this Christmas
My grandson bought an Audi, nothing but hassles, sold it and now drives a Honda.
My '71 Volvo 144 4-cylinder had 250,000 miles on it when I sold it and it did not burn oil. Should have kept that car!
My dad had one its the Station Wagon volvo.
Did u end up buying a Fiat or GM ?
The only 70s car that could last 200k miles. Other than Mercedes
That would be a cool car to drive today :)
@@mrgarrison3516 I bought a basic Mercedes. Big mistake. Got rid of that troublesome thing and got a Camry. Nothing but Toyota since.
Few car companies give a darn about whether or not their cars will be good for 8,10-15 years anymore.
‘22 Ford with 20k miles. Already rebuilt the rear differential & front end (AWD), replaced the driver assist control module & all 4 cameras. After waiting 15 months for it as a factory order. Full of little cosmetic failures on the interior. Now Ford has removed the ability to disable the auto stop/start feature. Will definitely be my last Ford , and doubtful I’ll ever buy a new vehicle ever again.
Sadly....unless something changes, almost every new vehicle is going to be loaded with electronic trash that gets obsolete fast and fails too soon.
congress does not need to make kill switches mandantory they are already built on some cars.
I've had a good experience with Ford but I only bought the Mustangs whenever they came out with a new model except not this latest model, decided to finally change it up. Those Mustangs V8 versions are pretty solid
25:58 those old boxy Volvos are indestructible. I sold mine with 356k miles on it. 1984 Volvo wagon I can’t remember if it was a 4 speed with overdrive of a 5 with overdrive. Great cars.
Back when they were made in Sweden.
@@BB-xx3dv neither would I. Wouldn’t touch it with a 10 foot pole.
Now they are eurotrash
Had an 83 wagon with 4 speed manual plus overdrive. The odometer croaked at 283000 miles. Probably had 300k when I sold it because the tailgate rusted and exhaust fumes were getting sucked into the cabin. Easy to work on too.
I am 63 and retired. My travel consists of driving to Aldi or Walmart every week. My 1990 F-250 still is also good enough to pick up furniture on the side of the road for the dogs when they tear theirs up. My 1995 Pathfinder needs to be jumpstarted now, then driven a while to recharge the battery. In two more years, I will no longer have to get the yearly state emissions inspection on it. Hopefully, my next vehicle will be a short-term rental on a Cadillac station wagon from a funeral home. In thirty years or so.

It's weird to me seeing an old school mechanic like Scotty critiquing newer (imo) vehicles.
@@shadetree6981 I don't know how weird it is but I'm not keen on his interjecting his opinions on what he likes or dislikes when they are options. These are personal choices we all make but by reading a number of his responses here, there are many who seemingly can't or won't think for themselves. No wonder this country's in a mess concerning our governing. No wonder so many seem to want a dictator. That's beyond weird.
Yes, I'm a fan of Scotty! When I drove big rigs, it was always the older ones. The wiring was heavier, seldom had fuse or light failure .
There so much seemingly NEW JUNK being sold these days.
So many good tips and observations helping us maintain our cars.
Take lots of notes. Many thanks!
I feel bad for the younger generation. The cars they're getting are garbage and the cars that were legendary in reliability(90s/early 2000s) are old and are getting harder to find.
The automobile high water mark of reliability/repairability/price/durability was probably between 1992-2002. I wonder if Scotty would agree with that
@@skymningforelsket1302 I'm guessing he would. I definitely agree. Parts availability is also a big issue for the less common vehicles of the past and also for the more recent, over-engineered vehicles.

2010 Scion TC Hatchback (Toyota Engine), Hyundai Tiburon GT Hatchback & 2005 Mazda 6 Hatchback my 3 choices.
I use to drive Ford 150's but then went to a Toyota 4Runner, then onto Toyots Highlander. My current one is a 2020 Limited with V6 and get 22mpg in town and 28 on the highway. Love the ride and can carry most anything in the back.
Electric Power Steering failed on my Ford Escape at 22,000 miles. Fixed under extended warranty (sort of). They refused to do a wheel alignment after replacing the steering rack, insisting I have to pay $199 extra for that b/c it's "maintenance". Um, it's NOT maintenance to get an alignment b/c your junk power steering part failed.
That literally takes minutes with the tech equipment, what a rip-off.
@@SaulidSnake yeah, i refused to pay the dealer for the alignment. They put in the power steering rack. Then I brought the car to an independent shop to have it aligned. I'm taking Ford to court to get my cost back
Crappy dealership.
I've heard turning off the adaptive learning tables in these Ford 10spd transmissions helps a lot with the poorly timed shifts.
I had a ford fusion it was good mechanically until 86k. But on day 1 the bumper screws kept coming loose and one day I'm making a slow right turn my rocker panel fell off and my engine guard also fell off also the hybrid battery had a recall ford also lied about the gas milage and my cd player burned out twice
Fords suck
Ford definitely sucks but if we're being honest most modern vehicles are trash. They don't want a vehicle to last more than 100k so that consumers will buy more.
I agree, have a V8 with no lag and even power coupled to a six speed box with simple, smooth shifts.
I just bought a 2005 Z71 1500 crew 4x4 from a dude on fb marketplace for $1500, and I can't find anything seriously wrong with it at all. Only codes coming back is for #3 coil and the infamous evap vent solenoid. Got those along with plugs and wires on the way. Granted it has 280k and plenty of northern MN rust underneath. Good tires. New battery. 4x4 shifts like it should. No signs of coolant in the crankcase... Just shows that one mans junk can very well be another mans treasure.
I too hate that start/stop. I just picked up a new Jeep Wrangler and installed a Start/Stop Eliminator out of WV. It was the best $100 I ever spent and only took 20 minutes to install!
My Corolla done 130.000 miles only changed water pump nothing else gone wrong
The 2.7L V6 is a great engine from what I heard on the F150.
I’ve got a 1998 Volvo S70, 2.4 L 5 cylinder, turbo and intercooler. Runs like a top! Doesn’t burn any oil. Garage kept. 289K miles on it. 32 mpg combined. CD player quit working, though….

Elon Musk, in a recent interview, spoke of assembly line issues. He says there's 10,000 processes to make a car. If just 1 thing stops, he loses money on that car. He's says it's extremely hard to make a car. A lot harder than people realize.

Love your videos. Had a Ford Expedition Limited 2012 with an eco boost. bought used 40k miles because my 04 tahoe was getting around 200K and wife wanted another car. Loved the performance and room of that ford UNTIL 60K miles then nickel and dime to death(more like hundred and couple hundred) replaced all wheel bearings all 4 over a year(consumable part so ok), heater resistor for fan every 3 months then wiring harness, paint started to bubble and flake at 45K(aluminum body I was like wtf), sounded like a 50 cal upon start up ratcheting and clacking dealer said it had 40 engine codes and I needed new sequencers??? Then stated they couldn't guarantee the engine wouldn't blow up.(another wtf moment at 80K on a truck driven 20 miles a day and babied oil changed full syn every 5k). By the time the clock got to 90K it was on a toyota dealership and wife was in a 2021 Highlander XSE AWD. Tahoe still driven every week because science and runs like a champ. No more fords or gmc this from a chevy guy. just sad. Next truck is the tundra but only the 8 cylinder the hell with the turbo headaches. the iforce 5.7 is a beast why change what works...Keep up the great work scotty
My Subaru Impreza just blew a head gasket (EJ25) of course. They don't make them like they use to. Parting ways with Subaru, buying a Toyota!
I’ve owned 2 brand new Ford expedition and had loved both. 2013 and 2016 Guess I got lucky 🤷🏻♀️
Quality goes down but price goes up 😂
So seems I have 2 crappy cars but I haven’t known about this till now.
In the USA I have 2013 Fusion 2.0 Hybrid with 200k miles and only parts ever replaced in this car was one driveshaft (it started leaking) and a rear camera.
In Europe I am driving 2017 Volvo 2.0 diesel with almost 150k mileage and thinking about replacing a battery.
Give my a rubber timing belt over a timing chain any day. The amount of failure timing chain designs across the board is just awful. I appreciate Fiat and Volvo and whoever else has tried to hold onto the timing belt. Swapping a timing belt is typically a few hour job while a timing chain job can be a 10 hour job and many more costly components involved. Many timing chain cars have issues even in very low mileage and it's just obnoxious.
I had no idea that a Ford Explorer had twin turbo V6 - like you said a starlight V8 would suit me better. I would think that having a car shut off when stopped at a light and then turning itself back on would ruin the stater over time, but what the hell do I know.

The last Explorer with a V8 was 2010. Ecobooms ever since then and no V8.
My Fusion Hybrid just turned 80,000. Never any problems and last tank I got 48MPG. Maybe the new ones are crap but this is one of the best cars I have ever owned.

Our Corolla had 360 000 kms...get back to me when POS Ford gets close.
Last time I purchased a Ford was 1986 after they screwed me over while my car was under warranty. Glad I left them in the dust. They never learned.
Totally agree. With the twin turbo I own a turbo 7 speed sedan and it suffers the same symptoms. Wanky take off and shifting when eco mode is on. Not to mention the turbo lag. I can’t imagine with 2 shells 🐚 🤡 going to get rid of it and get a Toyota. Listen to Scotty folks. ❤

The PCV system you showed on your phone doesn't apply to that car. That's for P2 Volvos, you're standing in front of a P3, which is arguably worse design if it's a 5 cylinder. It is the whole oil filter housing on p3 T5 engines, on the 6 cylinder cars its just a plastic cover on top of the engine. 10 or so bolts and two hose clamps. Much better design.

My 2015 SHO has been phenomenal. No issues at all. Zero, nada, nothing. Absolute perfection. But you drive your cute little Toyota.🤣
My 2009 MKZ with almost 200k miles on it is also running great. I will say, though, my first choice would have been an SHO, but they are extremely hard to find these days. Not because they are bad cars, but because nobody wants to sell theirs.

Why do my Fords get 300,000 with original engines and transmissions?
I showed my dad this vid Scotty, he's a little over 80, and he said that the Ford LTV station wagon he/ we had in 1981 was a dream to drive. We actually drove from Chicago to Massachusetts to visit my younger brother's god parents that time, and we also went to NY, Niagra Falks, and the Statue of Liberty that year. The station wagon was a great vehicle
1981 Ford-NOT '23 Ford. Huge difference
@@pjsneeringer5942 Right, in other words my dad was probably thinking what happened to the quality that Ford used to have. We also had a 90' GMC Suburban which was also a dream to drive for him
And fixable, at home if you wanted too
That was a different Ford company then rather than the woke idiots who run it today. Taxpayers should not be bailing them out. Buy a Toyota.
The most important point about a car reliability is the type of the transmission. Manual is the best for reliability. And is cheaper.
Until you have to replace the clutch!🤔🤫🤯 the eyes are replacing a clutch on much greater than the odds of needing a new auto transmission. And it's not the price of the clutch necessarily it's the labor to get to them in today's modern cars.
Modern automatics can be just as reliable. That a very dated belief.
@bigjay1970 clutches cost very little. You don't need to replace the whole transmission. Go look up how much replacing your automatic will cost you. I can change clutches for 50 years for less than your automatic will cost.

Hi Scotty,
What do you think about the new 2024 Chevrolet Trax 2RS?
This is why I stay with only 80's through 92 Cadillacs.
Nothing went wrong on my my 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis in the last two years.
Except for same oil and filter changes no other expenses. I had four of those cars with a 4.6 V8 but my next car won't be a Ford product.
They don't make anything I care for a anymore.
for cars....it's a tough sell, the only thing ford really makes that's pretty good is their 5.0 v8 and their 6.7 powerstroke
all else is turbocharged and people drive like maniacs with turbocharged engines.
Same here. I have no use for anything with a gas turbo. Ford shot themselves in the foot with failed EV nonsense and their engines suck for the past ten, twelve years.
I absolutely HATE all the computerized garbage they are putting in cars today. And nobody makes simpler ones thanks to insane government regulations. The government fucks EVERYTHING it touches.
I hate the Start Stop stuff too I shut it down every time when I get in a car at work we most have fiats and newer Mercedes at work and one Renault crap.
I love my GT, but it's a 2018 manual transmission model and a couple of years before Ford started having massive recalls. I wouldn't even consider ANY new Ford until they prove their quality control issues are resolved.
It's such a cluster about these oil control rings it seems like all of them are just failing
I have a 2011 Camry with the 2.5l. The PCV valve replacement books at 3 hours. Not easy or cheap.
Toyota fans ignore stuff like that. What about the Toyota where you've got to take the intake manifold off to replace the starter motor.
That's the 4.7L 2uz.
Except most keep working for 250K, not 25K.
@@dirkdiggler5164Toyota fans (and Scotty specifically) don’t wanna talk about that 😂😂
Yea they don't want to talk about the IS300 and how you have to remove the dashboard to change the evaporator because it leaks (multiple Toyotas have these problems).
They don't want to talk about the 08-11 Camry with the engines that had locking up piston rings and burned oil like crazy (Toyota eventually did a recall but not everyone was able to claim it).
They don't want to talk about the cracked dashboards on the 09-2014 Avalons either.
What about the engines in the CT250h which often failed due to some intake problem?
Or maybe the previous Gen corolla where the whole cars fall Apart and the intake sensors routinely go bad and it's placed in a stupid location...
What about the RC-F with the 5L V8 that had coolant problems with the intake valley, leaking fuel pumps, leaking oil scavenger pump, leaking fuel rail, leaking oil coolers... Oh and the engines are crazy complex so nobody wants to work on them...
Toyota fans just parrot a narrative and ignore all issues with the brand.
Now their modern turbo engines are failing left and right...
I had a 2011 camry with a manual, it went 243.000 miles until a deer killed it. Two clutches, and that was it. No troubles at all. So I bought a 2014 and a 2016. Best car ever made.
I can't even count how many brand new Fords I see with burned out tail lights.
What us up with that?
I think this is a test. Scotty definitely wants us all to go out there and buy a brand new chrysler vehicle.
How do you feel about a Ford Focus 2009 SEL?
I was a Service Manager in a Shop and we used Tekmetric as our Operating system and it tracks how much of our business has been performed for each Make of vehicles we repaired and Ford was 41% of our total business. Now think about how many car companies there are making cars and ask yourself whats going on. We specialized in European cars and I will not own anything coming out of Europe including Chrysler (Stellantis) because of this, but when I 1st looked at this report it blew my mind. It went Ford, VW (Audi), Dodge/Ram, BMW and then GM were the 5 most common makes we seen. I will not buy anything from any of these manufacturers.
My FORD Maverick Lariat Hybrid has been PERFECT!!
I watched Scotty like every day
Scott talking about how good toyota is I had a 2024 toyota rav4 with 1k miles and the driver side door have a big gap between the rear door the passenger door is normal
Scotty has praised Volvo in my recent memory, its a shame he blanket statemented the B5254T7/T12 isnt well made. sure the PCV system is a head scratcher and it still has a rubber belt but those engines will run forever and are generously overbuilt internally from the factory.
What do you think of Nissan armada or the Nissan titan?
I think Scotty prefers the sports mode.
Nowadays, with most vehicles you're either buying a crappy car or a really crappy car.
Quality control standards are in the toilet. Modern cars are built to be throw away commodities rather than long term investments... like Apple products.
I hate all that electronic junk. I hate start stop. I hate dial or bush button transmission shift.
I still absolutely adore the 1999 Ford Expedition.
Glad my European 15 year old petrol zetec engined C max has none of this stuff fitted , I only have to worry about rust.
As a 2013 Ford Taurus owner, I finally give up with Ford altogether I’m now looking at the Cadillac CT5 Mercedes E class or BMW 5 series
Don't get the Cadillac. You will thank me later.
I have a 1995 Ford escort lx with 1.9 4 cylinder, automatic transmission. I have 135,000 miles, and it has been trouble-free except for a steering connector rod. Other than that, struts, rear springs, and routine maintenance. A plane car, not a lot of power and 18 miles per gallon, but is and has been a very reliable car and I only paid 1,000 bucks for the car in the year 2001. There is no doubt the new cars stink in quality and are to complex. I will take dependable over fancy and sosfiscated any day.
Hi Scotty, does Turbo charged engine *ALWAYS* less reliable? What do you think about the turbo-charged engine in 2023/2024 Honda CR-V? Can it be as reliable and long-lasting as the older Honda engines? Thanks!
I would get a CRV with a K series or the Hybrid as those use the engine as a generator for the electric powertrain ans for highway cruising which leds to an understresswd engine
@@flymachine014Thanks for your reply. Do you think Honda has accumulated same level of experience with Toyota when it comes to Hybrid technology? Does Honda's Hybrid technology as mature as Toyota's? Thanks! I think I like CRV's "ride quality" (more comfortable for passengers) more than a RAV4, but RAV4 seems to have slightly better resale value in the long run. Thoughts?
@@DrWenChannel not the most expert in the newer vehicles, but you can't go wrong with any of the 2 options, in my country both are popular bestsellers and they keep a good resale value. Pick the one that the dealer gets you the better deal or the one you feel more comfortable with
A video about about the brake pedal up or down

Never Buy a Hyundai/Kia, Mitsubishi, Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep, VW, Audi, BMW or Mercedes. ALL MONEY PITS!
