Mate Holden 5L is the best sounding V8 in the world hands down. Dont care about the HP the note it makes just mint. Cant wait to see more vids. Good stuff!
found one with a rebuilt motor that was in a rear end smash, so motor was mint still. sat for nearly 10 years in a paddock. took the motor out and all other bits and bobs for my VR. motor ran on engine stand mint. Now just waiting on wiring to come back. cant wait to ditch the v6 in my track ute
Subbed up Brother, keep em coming. Owned a blue 89 VN V6 cam chip OTR exhaust n VR/VS HSV body kit went hard for a V6, white 97 VT V6 wagon (high kms) and am now the very proud owner on my delish white 2016 VF2 V6 wagon Adventure Series (factory upgrades) 124,000km I'm the second owner 😍😆 Chur from over the ditch 🤙🏻🤘🏻 🤜🏻🇦🇺🇳🇿🤛🏻
Holden 304. Love `em. I have a `99 roller cam v8 in S3 ute. I also had ignition issues so I replaced the dizzy with a new RAE advertised to have the Bosch hall effect sensor. Installed and still ran like shit. Problem solving for weeks. Last option was to remove the new dizzy. Sure enough the hall effect sensor had Chinese writing all over it. Replaced the sensor with the Bosch unit out of the original dizzy. Ran superbly. Chinese shit.
man we did the exact same thing with buying these cars, marketplace surfing and straight to pick it up. i paid way too much but i didnt want someone to grab it before me lol.
Been watching your stuff for a while on TT and enjoy your content. Yes what was old is now really old and what’s old now only seems like yesterday! GenX getting old! Soon to be very old 😂 I to have a VT 5L ex Victorian car DBH with the XX3 option 5L. And it’s worth bugger all now, in fact I’ve spent more on it than it’s currently worth, but with cars when’s a good time to do work on one. VT parts cheap currently won’t be soon and will get hard to find. It’s all relative just own what you like and spend what you can afford! Mostly enjoy the history, nostalgia that was the Australian auto industry.
Got the same model but SS. Not fast but sounds great and we do all our long trips in it as it is super comfortable. I'm older and lost any vanity so lowering just doesn't work especially on crappy roads.
I think the vs s3 ute or stattos were technically the true last recipients of the iron lion.. Definitely don't need to remove the mani to get the dizzy, installing that back on and aligning the gaskets is probably just as painful as removing the dizzy with it on, but good luck! I sold my exact twin of yours last year and I do miss her !
In a vs I'd say yes you do, I couldn't get the cap and rotor out easily, but I normally work on trucks, I could see how it is possible with experience. And yes, vs S3 went to 2000, my mates vs ute still can't get club plates in Vic.
So glad to see this - Still a bit sore from walking away from mine in 2019 for a HSV VE 307 Clubby. The LS2 is great but I do miss the HP block sound. Nothing seems to beat the sound of the 5L V8. The last thing I did was the dizzy, but even after that it would stop randomly - thats when I called it quits. Apparently it may have been the wiring loom
Injected 5L content, you now have a new follower, If the ignition problem still exists after replacing the dizzy it will be the brown tacho signal wire getting to much electrical interference
Would be cool to see a video of your car history and what else you like. I love the noise of these 5l commodores but am a nissan tragic at heart but can appreciate anything cool!!!!
It seems like the Chevrolet LS1 V8 engine in my VY SS Commodore is better than the old 5 litre Holden V8 engine setup in the VT series 1 Commodore. There's no distributor to worry about & I have heard that despite bumping the power up another 11 kilowatts (179 kilowatts) over the VS Commodores power output it was a bit of a slug because of the extra weight. I run a tuned LS1 V8 engine which has more go than the stock LS1 V8 engine. As far as the VT Commodores being a dime a dozen there's more V6 cars around & not many of the 5 litre V8 cars around now. It makes me wonder if I haven't heard from Tomago Aluminium because they just think that I drive the iron lion in the wrong direction when it's a 5.7 litre alloy Chevrolet V8 engine which my VY has fitted into it !
I had a series 3 vs Maloo with this motor, but nothing even comes close to my series 1 vs 5lt ute, the best throaty sound from any holden stock car. if someone offered me a new series 1 5lt vs or 10 Ferrari's I'd take the holden any day of the week
I had a vs seires 2 5 lt ute it would stop running after 15 minutes or so, many machanics couldnt work it out, all it was wrong was the metal heat shield from the spark plug boot touching the block causing it to short. so i removed all shields and never had a problem
Haha i just had the distributor done on my 5.0l VT i took one look and said stuff that and paid my awesome mechanic $120 to do it for mee lol you'll need a ton of Wd forty or something to spray it down good they get pretty stuck in there
How much more would it cost to use LS coils, and a Haltec ECU rather than replace the distributor and just put a stator in the distributor in lieu of a crank angle sensor? You would have better spark and fuel control?
Hall effect sensor cost 30 bucks if that at dick smith or jb hifi one if them better than 300, its a magnet sensor like a v6 cas but on dizzy not crank why do a new dizzy,do sensor and cap n rotor thats it why make it so hard no need to take intake off , remove leads remove dizzy cap use 30 dollar tool comes with Holden and ford , remove nut holding spring wire over clip ,shit only because you cant see it you go ohhh and rip half the engine apart, while you're doing intake whynot do the heads only afew bolts and a couple bucks away
As much as I love this kind of 5ltr content I can’t stand how the video is out of focus and the framing of you and subject is terrible e.g half of your head. I just can’t watch it
Stockies look good, but some Calais International alloys look even better. I’m enjoying the videos, keep them coming.
Thanks man!
Got internationals on my vx, they’re great

Whenever I see the H plates I have to remember these are 25 years old! Feels so recent that they were new.

Too right bro. Well said. Damn Tootin
Insane👌
Good to see a Holden V8 not chev 5.7 .Holden V8 sounds lot better than 5.7 chev and I think they are a better motor
Bloody oath my brother just got a 1995 vs v8 state o ❤❤

Enjoying the videos mate. Looking forward to seeing more in the future.
i got a '99 factory manual SS, still got under 190xxxkms, i love the sound!
Hey Man. Im a Commodore man too. I love all Holdens. I too do my own work on them. Love that youre doing it all yourself. Way to go.
The VS Series two and early VT Calais had some awesome stock alloys that look fantastic when polished up well.
New subscriber mate. Love the Vt commodore.
OMG i stripped front off my 5L engine twice also, but hold the phone my third gremlin was a head gasket. 😂
Just got yourself a subscriber. Let’s get it into it!!!! Love the VT’s as well.
Thanks mate!
I love the 304's. Unfortunately they stopped updating them, my VF Calais v v8 wagon is amazing as a car against almost everything.
Like your content. Had that 5 Litre in my 99 SS back in the day. Good motor. 👍
Thanks!
I had a similar issue with my Vt SS years ago, replace your EFI relay . That’s what fixed mine.
I’ll try that mate thanks
New subscriber 🤙. Definitely keen to see future videos.
Thanks mate!
Makes me weep for selling my 1985 VK Holden Brock SS Group 3. What was I thinking?????@@commodoreman1
Good vid bro 👌
liked and subbed. cheers mate for sharing. love the calais.
Thanks mate!

Mate this is crazy haha I'm literally editing a video like that right now and there is a Nissan in there
@@commodoreman1 miss the days of sub 10k v8 commos xr6ts s13s skylines rx7s etc
5L 304 best sounding V8, prefer it over any LS anyday

Got a bit excited seeing they could get club rego at 25 years but it’s 30 here and my 99 SS 5L only ever drives to and from the rego inspection. 😐

I’ve got quite a few vehicles, VN, VP,VS
imo the 304 should’ve been an optional engine up until VY
Nice mate. But you say Elephant, not Alephant.......:) Al the best

Interesting… I’ll look into it! Thanks for the comment
how much you reckon those boot garnishes go for now? im needing one for my calais
Nice vid ill buy your stockies mate just what I'm after for my VX.
Thanks mate! But I'll be keeping them :)
@@commodoreman1 darn lol all good they suit ur car mate :)
I can’t imagine being able to just get bits for my Vauxhall Monaro cv8 late model. The uk sucks
