  • We are working our bums off to make ReDriven an international platform for cars lovers all around the world to embrace and enjoy.
But as you can probably tell from my accent and the locations we film in, I and ReDriven are Australian, and we’ve received loads of requests from viewers all over the world to feature more Aussie content and we do have some special stuff coming up with a few Aussie cars…
So, welcome to Part 1 because after reaching out to loads of ReDriven viewers, car fans, various motoring journalists and even the dozens of mechanics and industry experts we talk to every week when researching our videos, it quickly became apparent, this needs to be a multi-part series.
Tell us if we missed anything in the comments below! And don't forget to subscribe to stay up to date with all of out content!

    ---
At ReDriven, we’ll be taking you through the pros and cons of a huge range of used cars to see how well they’re going now that they’re a few years old, have thousands of kilometres on the clock, and are coming toward the end of their warranty, or maybe don’t have one at all.
Plus, thanks to our resident mechanic, Jim, you’ll find out what commonly goes wrong with them and what might need to be fixed.
Most importantly, we want to make ReDriven a voice for the most in-the-know used car experts there are...you guys.. See, you’re the ones that actually buy, live with, love and sometimes unfortunately hate the cars we’ll be reviewing.
So we want to hear your thoughts. Hit us up in the comments, or on Instagram and Facebook.
We’d love nothing more than for you to give us as much feedback as possible, so we can make this channel the best it can be.

Fun Fact: the Walkinshaw VL had an bolt-on intake restrictor that you "definitely weren't" supposed to remove. But somehow removing it was made as easy as possible. Doing so safely increased power by at least 25%. It's similar to the wire in the R32 GT-R engine bay that was marked with yellow tape - "don't cut this wire unless you want an extra 50hp".

Awesome list guys - love the videos.
Gotta put a basic BA XR6/ XR6 Turbo on the list - not exactly an insane race car for the road but the way the motor and chassis of those cars changed the aussie car scene is absolutely unmatched. The fact that now, 20 years after it's release, you're still hard pressed to find a more capable motor than the turbocharged Barra should be enough in itself, I think. The hype and community around the motors in these cars back when they released and even now is crazy. Definitely deserves a spot.

The Ralliart Magna is a cracker of a car, fast too.
The engines are BMW smooth and punchy, but with more low down torque.
Had a surprising amount of kit too, factory Koni suspension, hi compression pistons from Germany, bigger cams and head work, Momo steering wheel, manual LSD, plus they handled great too.

I'm an absolute car nut, but part 2 I feel needs to have the xu1, where Holden outsmarted the number 1 from this video, and handed Brock his first Bathurst... The HK Monaro GTS, for going outside the Aussie norm, making a beautiful coupe, which also won Bathurst... The Moffat GT coupe that dominated Bathurst in 77 with their infamous finish, and of course perhaps the most dominant Bathurst winner of all time, the A9X... So much better than the rest, it not only won by a country mile, but Australia's greatest touring car driver ever, broke the lap record on the last lap, just to prove how much better it was.

Holden thought it could sell 750 of these but could only sell 500 of the VL Group 'A' . So the rest were changed back to Calais spec. The thing is though you could only tell these special Calais by the fact they had to keep the bonnet scoop to allow clearance of the throttle body. So they are even more rare they the Group A's. Bolwell Nagari, 351, 4-speed, factory built coupe or convertible, or, home build kit with whatever engine you wanted to use... 1969 to 1974. I think of them as Australia's Corvette.

HSV GTSR W1...the name sounds like a WiFi password.😁😀. On a more serious note though, isn't the LS9 the same one in the Chevrolet Camaro ZR1?

Torana A9X surely the king of 70’s muscle and racing.
It won three championships in three years, was on pole position at all of its Bathurst outings and scored two Bathurst wins - the latter by a never-to-be-repeated margin. It is the epitome of late-1970s Australian muscle-car performance and simply destroyed its opposition in the hands of Brock, Jim Richards and John Harvey at HDT, or privateers Bob Morris and Allan Grice.

I'm glad I've seen the best of Australian motoring, form 1999 to 2012... Todays car choice for under $40k is horrendous and for HSV GTS that in 2010 you could buy brand new for 80-90k, today you need min of 170k.

Back when I was about 10 or so, Subaru was so synonymous with Australia that I genuinely thought it was an Australian company. That said, the Commodore and Falcon were always my favorite Aussie cars. Muscle car go brrr.

This is certainly a great retrospective of some of Australia's performance cars. That said however, I don't think that any sort of homage can be paid to Australia's automotive industry with out mentioning the 48-215 (FX) Holden. Monocoque construction in 1948 was a rarity and created a strong but light weight vehicle. It's 2.2 litre OHV six was not only buttery smooth but also provided plenty of low RPM torque and, for the time, exceptional fuel economy. Yes, they only had a top speed of 80 mph. and it took about a day and a half to get to that speed but an all day cruising speed of 60mph. was nothing to laugh at. And they would run on all but kerosene. Independent coil sprung front suspension and good ground clearance were a boon. And for the wealthy, an aftermarket radio and heater weren't out of the question in a bid to optimise cabin ambience. Evaporative air conditioning is something we don't think about these days but in the FX it came standard. By reversing the quarter window to direct air onto your sweaty face you would be as cool as anyone could be back in the day.

The turning point for Ford finally having a performance car was the EB-ED XR series. The V8 made a welcome return and the XR6 changed the way we looked at the 6 pot. The evolution of the XR6 lead Ford to produce Australia’s best home grown engines ever made ,it’s code name was Gull , but everyone affectionately call it ,The Barra turbo.

That was great thanks mate. Good to see the Magna and yep, the body kit ruined an otherwise attractive car. However, compared to the VL Walkinsure Commodore the Ralli Art Magna was a thing of beauty. Can I suggest for future episodes the VG Valiant Pacer, Bolwell Nagari and the EH Holden S4? Cheers mate and thanks again for the enjoyable video.

I would love to own an FG Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo here in the UK, its different to our usual posh percieved over priced Euro boxes that would compete such as BMW 5 series or Jag XF. Its the sort of honest working class blokes car I like, but sadly we never got them here ☹️. These were/possibly still are common in OZ and that straight 6 is a great unit, pity they were all autos from what I can gather.I like large comfy classic shaped salloons/sedans and the Falcon and Commodore both filled that brief easily. The Falcon interior was a little too hard plastic, but sure I could live with that. Did own a 99 AU Ford Falcon wagon when on a working holiday visa in 2011, it was OK 🤔.
