Hey Mike, the movie that cost less than Acolyte and was way more successful was "Godzilla Minus 1."
I wanna say CD brought up this point. With the Acolyte's 180M budget, a studio could make 12 "Godzilla Minus 1" movies since that movie was 15M to make.

Not only did it cost less, it cost 12 mill USD and won an Oscar for special effects. Acolyte cost 185 mill USD. Where TF did the money go?

I could not agree more about Luke and Darth Vader. Their battles were epic in a way that none of the others were. It's not just an old person's nostalgia. Everything about them felt like a battle between good and evil. It didn't need to be master swordsmanship. It was good versus evil. It was father versus son. It mattered in ways that no other fights did. I think the attention span of a younger audience might play a role in the reason why they can't appreciate it. Or possibly it's just that there has been truly good swordsmanship fights in other movies even outside of Star wars, but that was never what made them great. If you really love to Star wars it was all about the emotion and impact of that epic showdown between good and evil.
Well the prequels had technically cool fights that did have story impact at a deep level. I liked the originals fight as they used the set and the setting was cool and then the later fight was like the epicenter of the story where the son redeems the father. They’re moody and operatic vs the prequels that are epic and powerful and have way more fight choreography. Also the music was cool in the prequel fights.
I'd watch gorgeous, talented Manny Jacinto in almost Anything. This show wasn't in the 'almost anything' camp - it looked insultingly bad from the off, and all the reviews underscored that. I'm all for more diverse casts, more gay characters, more women, more ethnicities etc - great! Good. But there must be quality writing as well, but this show? Mama Mia. Ai yoh. Not just bad, but insultingly bad. All my last Star Wars hopes now rest on Andor Series 2, because That first series was amazing - Andor's quality shows up how insultingly bad This series was - as well as, intellectually, how its ham-fisted execution actually hurt the valid push for more inclusion and diversity within Star Wars.
In my opinion the best clone wars adaptation is the Gandy Tatokovski hope i typed the name right, but despite it being very short

The sunken cost fallacy is a hell of a drug .
I can see why some would pick the Luke vs. Vader lightsaber fight as being the best, especially the one in Return of the Jedi. It had more emotional context because, even though Vader wasn't trying to defeat Luke, he was wrestling with his own conscience because he knew Luke was right about him. The best Lightsaber fight I've ever seen was years ago on RUclips. It was in a Star Wars fan film that I can't remember the name of.
Now Star Wars fan film lightsaber duels is another story, lol!! Those are on a tier of their own. I've seen so many great fan made duels that really rival a lot of what we've seen in the movies and TV Shows. DARTH MAUL: Apprentice is one that comes to mind.
I am all for Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon vs Maul. It's grounded, the music is absolutely perfect, Maul is ominous, the stage is great. And it precipitates Obi-Wan to fast track his role as a unprepared Master Jedi for a kid with unsure future. It's just great premise for story and brilliant action performance. Real choreography, real training, real stunt. Just great.
And also Anakin vs Obi-Wan. I know, I know, too much flashy for fans of the OT. But the behind the scenes of this fight in the making of, really solidify the fight for me, they trained a ton, and made soo much themselves instead of the stunt doubles. They did Soo much, Hayden Christensen is still able to outperform pull out moves smoothly in Ahsoka (too bad it's a terrible show).
And Anakin and Obi-Wan brother like relation elevates the fight. You can see in the acting Obi-Wan doesn't want to fight someone he considers as his family. And he still have to take this person out. Even if it breakes him. He needs to do what has to be done.
Music is one the the greatest scores in Star Wars. Let's be real, the most recognizable scores and memorable even for SW rookies, are the imperial march, the star wars theme, then Dual of the Fates (Darth Maul battle theme) and Battle of the Heroes (this fight theme). Maybe Leia theme is up in here too. But they are like the best scores put out by John Williams for this Saga.
Tbh, the he best light saber battle in all of the star wars has to be from one of those cinematic trailers of the old republic.

Give this money to Star Wars theory to make a Star Wars show. Give this to any of the really good expanded universe writers (as long as they haven’t gone woke as their writing really seems to suffer), give this money to Lucas to make one, give it to any solid writer who actually likes Star Wars and isn’t just using it. These people don’t like these things, they like corrupting these things, they like themselves, they like making everything about them. That is what identity politics is, people with limited imagination and limited ideas about humanity forcing themselves onto thing they didn’t create because they’re in positions they didn’t earn. They don’t care about the ‘disenfranchised’ the pretend to stand for. They care about themselves and see others as a way of achieving their self aggrandizement. People are props to them, and getting people into easily controlled groups makes mind wiping and getting power and money and influence easier. If you can get people to see themselves as a group you can get them to stop thinking like individuals, if the group is what matters then you can’t speak in ways that will threaten the group and then you can shut people up by making the protection of the group and furthering of it the top priority because you decide what’s best for the group by being the leader of the fake ‘outcasts’. None of these groups they pretend to represent are outcasts or downtrodden they’re highly paid and given many opportunities and far more space socially than anyone else to be horrible people. If there’s a group actually being discriminated against it’s white guys given both Tyler fisher and many at Disney were fired or not hired for being white guys and there’s footage of that now and them admitting it. Course the other groups aren’t being helped either really, given people awards for being a woman or a race means no one of judgment will trust that they got those awards rightly. The entire impulse here seems to come from a female centric thing that has been cast onto others as well now, they infantilize women and see them as never being responsible for what they do or how they are and it’s all on men and yet you also have to pretend like they’re just as capable. They’ve done this to anyone who isn’t a white guy now and it’s caused the worst of those groups to rise to the top while punishing the best who won’t conform enough and of course while also just dumping immense racism on white guys. It’s scary how quick people are find with immorality towards white guys or Americans or the rich even as if they are inherently bad and then pretend like other bias is bad. People seem totally performative.
I loved the Luke/Vader fights best because it was less a battle of strength and agility and more a battle of wills

I advise you to skip Seasons 1 and 2 of the Clone Wars. The animation in the first seasons was rough but by 3-4 it gets better and it’s perfected in 7. Since it’s an anthology show, you CAN skip a lot of episodes that are filler and not important.
But please, watch Season 7 as soon as you can. The lightsaber fights are peak.

They MUST be laundering money. There is no way this pile of doodoo cost 180 mill + USD and Godzille -1 cost 12. There is no world where any of that makes sense.
Also, there are fights that are good because of impact, and then there are fights that look amazing. Most impactful is Vader vs Luke. Best looking is Kenobi vs Anakin.
But hey, look at the positive. At least 100% of the people who did not like this are simply white supremacists and men afraid of women. That is why their "modern audience" showed up in such massive groups and made this a no brainer for season 2.

I think Hayden Christianson is a good actor I think so I don’t think he was just bad in Star Wars he was supposed to play it that way. I think people didn’t get that. Really I didn’t notice issues there. He seemed suppressed and struggling with his emotions and place in the world and that’s I think what he was supposed to be like. The council were jerks to him and Mace in particular I think but really none if them seemed good and obi wan was kind of a terrible master I mean really so compared to his master. He was really dismissive and rude to him. They were kind of brothers I guess but he just didn’t seem great master wise mostly.

The movie you might be thinking of is The Creator, directed by Gareth Edwards who directed Rogue One (co-directed, depending on who you believe). He made The Creator for, I think, $65-80 million and it looks like it cost $250 million.
A lot of GREAT movies didn't cost half of what the Acolyte did... where did the money go?!

Am I the only weirdo to think that the best of the OT is episode 4 😅. It is a great self contained story, with a smooth stream of narration all the way from start to finish.
The lightsaber battle is one of weakest of the saga. But I can easily overlook it for the visionary project it was of his time. Plus the moment doesn't require a flashy fight, Obi-Wan is an old mentor at this point, he didn't need to stay a great fighter until very old age. All he needed was to buy some time, and then not give a reason for Luke and the others to want to look back and maybe get captured.
I didn't like Episode 4 as a kid, but it continues to grow on me over the years.

It's the DEI rules that did the show in. Get the best writers that you can.If they happen to be white, so be it. They chose racial and sexual identity over everything, making it much harder to find good writers. Are there good minority writers out there? Sure, but I don't think they even considered fine tuning for that. Many good writers that didnt check every box were passed over, I bet.

Plug your nose for Caped Crusader. The Penguin is a woman for no reason whatsoever. Harley Quinn is...Latina, I think?...for no reason whatsoever. I'm with you -- I don't really care, everyone deserves representation, but when it gets shoehorned in, it's infuriating. As a counter-example, I could give a shit about Jim Gordon being Black in The Batman (at least in part because I'm cool with any time Jeffrey Wright shows up). But some of these things seems specifically designed to 'trigger' people so that they talk about it online, in the hopes people will watch.
Why do people deserve anything? Do people owe me as a white guy representation? And why then are a few groups prioritized while other groups are ignored? Like if the focus is representing then how do you decide out of all the groups which to represent more or less and how they should be there’s many questions beyond just put some chicks and black people in it. Also if you focus on representing people like cattle and making sure you get all kinds in there you inevitably end up focusing more on that then quality. None of this helps anyone and the people doing it have been openly racist towards white men so why is that not the only thing being talked about rather than what overpaid actor out of a fake oppressed group gets hired got a terrible project that reduces the value of and passion for yet another franchise? These companies have said they won’t hire white guys multiple times they were caught saying that and yet people still don’t care about that bias and only speak of making sure there’s no bias against others. This doesn’t help people that people care about namely women snd other races. It’s made them be associated with the destruction of one great thing after another. Affirmative action type stuff as sowell has pointed out often just messes it up for those groups being treated like infants and handed things on a silver platter. It’s also engendered a mindset of getting fake value through victimhood.
I’m kind of wondering if the reason the far left teaches women and minorities they’re oppressed based on no evidence they are is that it helps infuse a powerless learned helplessness response and mindset. They become hopeless and feel paranoid about vague evil and systemic badness and people who are hopeless and fearful are easy to emotionally control and use as a voting block and built in audience and militia even if needed which is what blm and Antifa are. And also that’s what feminism is.
