"He has a vaguely positive feeling about Borderlands as a concept." That part got me - I actually had to pause. The piano music was the cherry on top. 😆😆😆
literally me. I saw the trailer at the cinema when I went to see another with a friend. I had a vaguely positive feeling that I had seen the name Borderlands before. when I told my friend it seemed fun, she seemed to have slightly negative feelings about it that was enough of a warning for me not to go see it. tho I'm curious how bad I'd find it, not knowing anything about it (aside from the Pitch Meeting)
This movie was obviouly just the winner of a dart game called "what famous game can we try and cash in on" That being said it must be a daunting task to try and take a game concept and turn it into a movie. We're talking an avg of 30 hours of storytelling being condensed into 2 hours. Maybe some day a writer will come along that can do it but I'm not sure that person exists yet.
Borderlands is what we get when someone knows just enough to know it has a built in fanbase, but they have no idea why people like it. They seriously just took a bunch of famous names and threw them into the movie, with no regard to whether or not they actually fit the part. I do chuckle at the notion of them being baffled as to why the movie failed. "I thought video game adaptations were really hot these days! How could this possibly fail?"
As a big fan of the games, one of my fav franchises of all time, seeing the trailer was enough for me to know how bad this was going to be. Also Producer Guy's "OHHH!" to the twist part got me so good lol. This is also a reminder that Netflix is making a Bioshock film. Another one of my fav franchises..
I’ll tell you who this movie is for. It’s for the Director, who made this movie because this was the only way they could get their half baked magnum, opus to be made by Stapling borderlands characters onto it and call it an adaptation. Seriously we have had some good video game adaptation movies. so maybe you should take your movie making advice from the good video game adaptation movies instead of the bad ones.
It was??? HAhahHAha. I always thought that little robot sounded like claptrap, but never even imagined it was the same voice actor. Oh gods. It was the little robot in the second Cooler movie right?
Someone will likely clarify this, but I believe that voice actor has stated that he would never reprise the role or something like that. They could've at least got someone who sounded even a little bit like him though >.
AVI ARAD has ruined so far... * Borderlands * Daredevil (2003) * The Punisher (2004) * Elektra (2005) * Fantastic Four (2005) * X-Men: The Last Stand * Spider-Man 3 * Bratz (2007) * Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance * The Amazing Spider-Man 2 * Ghost in the Shell (2017) * Venom: Let There Be Carnage * Uncharted (2022) * Morbius And now he's gonna ruin... * Kraven the Hunter * Venom: The Last Dance * Legend of Zelda * Naruto As long Arad lives, there's no hope
To be fair, casting a comedic actor in a serious role can work sometimes (see: Will Ferrell in "Stranger Than Fiction"), but judging by the reviews of this movie I've heard so far, I'm going to guess that this was not an example of that.
You know everyone who was involved making this movie saw the success of the Fallout show. They probably all thought they would have a great opening weekend. Then probably thought, "How come Fallout did so well. But nobody likes our movie. What did we do wrong?!?!?!" 🤣
No Mordecai, a 53 year old 23 year old, just, what the heck man, what the heck. I can't even mention the rest, those alone ruined it all, let alone everything else.
Imo I did not know this movie existed until one day on youtube I saw Pitch Meeting of it. Then it was like: Wait... haven't I seen that red haired gradma somewhere?
People don't even know how bad the box office really was. They aren't aware that theaters get 50% of ticket sales. Sometimes more. So when you see that a movie made $10M at the box office, that means the studio got a maximum of $5M. Then they have to split up that half among everyone with a finger in the pie. Chump change in the big picture.
"Vaguely positive feelings towards borderlands" haha I think I'm the boy he's talking about lol I was always way more of a Defiance fan during that time
Like off the top of my head casting wise adury plaza Lilith, Idris Elba Roland, Zoey delchalna as Tanis ,just to name a few idk as soon as I saw the cast I knew it was 90s Mario Brothers Stat my casting is random but better also Steve Carell is dream Claptrap
Honestly it wasn't completely bad. But after playing bl1 and part of 2 sofar it confused me why lilith didn't use the fully automatic infinite ammo pistol she had " the infinity™ ". And the fire powers didnt make sense to me since in the first game she only farts fire after getting a kill and in the second so far she doesn't use fire but called herself firehawk to scare the gangs near sanctuary
I don't know who asked for this movie to exist, and I don't know anyone who was excited about it when the first trailer dropped. I know a lot of people that LOVE the games, and none of them have gone to see the movie, although I'll probably end up watching it out of curiosity when I don't have to pay extra to watch it on a streaming service. Maybe I'll watch it with a few friends, share the suffering around a bit.
I'm the key??? NGL, i was looking forward to this. Lilith is my favourite borderlands character and Cate Blanchette is one of my favourite actors. But now im just so disappointed
I walked into this movie completely blind. I didn't know it existed until someone invited me to go see it with them. I don't see movies but like twice a year. I never played the games. I was utterly shocked how garbage it was in literally the first 10 minutes.
I'm more and more amazed about the bozos who make the decisions in Hollywood. It's as if they have a secret contest going who can screw up a good idea in the most unsatisfying way.
i don't know what the casting director for this movie was smoking when they chose these actors, but keep them away from hollywood forever! the most blatantly miscast movie ever made.
How the hell does something like this happen? Did they see that Uncharted made a lot of money while pissing all over the source material and decide that that was the correct strategy? It's not like the casting choices were even a case of "diversity casting." I don't really play video games, but as far as I can tell most of the white characters are white and the black characters are black, etc. They just changed people's ages and personalities for no reason. Is someone like Cate Blanchett even a box office draw? I think she's an incredible actress, don't get me wrong. Her performance in Tar might be the finest acting I've ever seen. But is she getting people into the theater in enough quantities to justify changing the source material? Baffling.
I'll pay to watch the 1st Street fighter movie before I pay to see that borderlands crap. (I loooove borderlands and they butchered this opportunity) Soooooo many guns and grenades they could have put into the movie to make it actually cool but just a huge missed opportunity. 🤦🏾♂️
Ok, had to Google this, but Borderlands budget was 115M, and it only made 10M in box office sales! 😮 I, um, hmm. 🤔 How math? 🤦🏾♀️ There is no way a movie studio can stay in business like this. Look, I've never heard of this game, but from all the reaction channels I've watched, it seems the casting was horrendous and nonsensical. I mean, no offense to the older actors; heck, I'm getting close to the bug 5-0, too, but why cast a 50 and 60 year old to play 20 somethings? Like, it's bizarre. Were there no competent 20, or even 30, year old actors who could assume the roles? 🫤
Screenwriter Guy’s speech at the end was so beautiful. That was until it was interrupted by the quote “I’m not sure that boy exist.” 😅
Big facts that took me out lol
"He has a vaguely positive feeling about Borderlands as a concept."
That part got me - I actually had to pause. The piano music was the cherry on top.

When a RUclips comedy sketch about a movie gets more positive feedback than the movie itself
I love how even Ryan's idiot screenwriter character apparently had more written for this movie than the real team did but lost those additional pages
The Movie in it's lifetime so far made less than half of what MORBIUS made on opening Weekend, calling it a flop is an understatement
Seeing how critics' rating and audience rating are in agreement tells me all I need to know lol
@@Sos4R4y its not often that it happens, so you know thats a bad sign
@@ukyba exactly haha. And for 3C films RUclips channel to give it a negative review also says a lot. He's almost always optimistic about movies

Dude you lost it at the pitch meeting 😅😂😂

He didn't put a spoilers ahead warning 😂
Ryan George has saved me from having to watch many a bad movie with his condensed summaries of why I shouldn’t 😃
That's true but he's also tore some holes in movies that are actually pretty good.
@@RelativeReality7 yes but tearing holes is TIGHT

Ryan George is great because he figured out how to tear apart bad media *without* sounding like a 4chan incel.
Just as we were making progress with video games adaption this movie had to come out and will set video game adaptation back another 20 years
😂😆
😂😂😂😂 this was top tier
I don't think you've ever rewound so much lol

I feel like Ryan put way more thought into who the intended audience was than anyone in charge of this project did.

Both the Pitch Meeting and your reaction are hilarious! Best thing to come out of this movie, definitely.

I LOVE the Borderlands 1&2 games, but I walked out of this movie midway and got my money back. Haven't done that since Hulk 2003 XD
I can't believe they didn't even get the original voice actor for Claptrap. Even Team Four Star had him on DBZA.
It was??? HAhahHAha. I always thought that little robot sounded like claptrap, but never even imagined it was the same voice actor. Oh gods. It was the little robot in the second Cooler movie right?

They thought everyone would be surprised by Lilith being a Siren, but weren't aware that Krieg's Tina's father. Didn't do their research.
He's not her father, though. That theory was debunked by gearbox.
He does raise a good point. Who is this movie for? It isn't really for people who play borderlands. I isn't for people who like action movies.
