  • Honda commercial which aired in the months prior to the 1994 Indy 500.
Interesting footnote to this commercial (and lots of irony)...
The indycar in the commercial is driven by Bobby Rahal, whose team was the first to use a Honda engine in the IndyCar series. In the first 3 races of the season before Indy, the Honda HRX Indy V-8 proved to be unreliable and down on power, and when it came time for Rahal and his teammate, Mike Groff, to qualify for the Indy 500, they were consistently the slowest cars in the field. Rahal withdrew his Honda-powered cars from the field and worked out a deal with Roger Penske to borrow year-old Penske PC-22 chassis fitted with Ilmor engines (Ilmor D for Rahal, Ilmor C+ for Groff). With the new (old) cars, Rahal and Groff made it into the field for the 500. Rahal ended up finishing 3rd in the race.

Except that Honda didn't make it to Indy in 1994. BUT Honda made it in '95 with Tasman Motorsports, and would've won the Indy 500 had Scott Goodyear not blown by the pace car before the last green flag/restart of the race.

Yeah Honda had some major teething problems in '94. I felt bad for Bobby Rahal because you could tell he was exasperated towards the end of the season. But Honda sure got it right in the following years, huh?

Just wondering why there isn't a pop-off valve on this car?

Valves were used only at races. One reason onofisial track records are set during testing

No pop off valve?....looks like there isn't even an engine in the car.
Look at the background, it's fake...reminds me of the Flintstones...same checkerboard background going by over and over. Clearly the car's not even at a race track, they did this in front of a blue screen.
Oh and the last line..."see you at Indy"....they parked this car
