My 82 year old partner has this and he makes it a point to walk around the inside of our house, we have a large house, 3 times a day, 10 times around the house. He does his first round after breakfast, than again after lunch and again after dinner. It's been working for him.
My legs swelled all of a sudden. I asked several doctors about it but just got a look of disgust from them. Then I found your video and started sitting with my legs up and walking a bit more. It worked! My legs and feet are almost normal sizes now after 3+ yrs. Thank you so much.
I went to the doctor about this problem yesterday and she didn't mention any of this. I left with a diuretic script but would have loved this info instead. Thanks guys! 😊
My husband got lymphedema after being diagnosed with lymphoma. He has been seeing a massage PT clinic for some new ideas to treat, wearing compression hose and trying oh so hard to keep things under control. Please be careful if you have this and .and keep an eye on your skin. He developed sepsis in his leg, right before the lockdowns in 2/2020. Three weeks in the hospital, very very sick. Don't neglect your legs and feet!
Great information for people whom have multiple sclerosis.... Seriously these ppl are more helpful than some doctors, specialist and physiotherapist. Thank you guys.
Good news! I changed chairs last night and today. Sat in a recliner with feet up last night and this morning. I’m stunned. My left foot is no longer swollen! Didn’t expect such quick results. Such a simple tip, but I did not know it until your video. I was afraid it was something very wrong with my body. Thanks again.
Thanks Bob, Brad and Mike. I DOOO suffer from poor venous return on one leg and I Did have a DVT in 2016 once due to low Protein C so I Loved this video!

Doctors these days do not give you an exercise program nor do they tell you to lose weight or quit smoking. I asked a doctor at the beginning of the year why. He said because they don't want to hurt anyone's feeling. I think they just want to push meds and may get a kick back from the pharmaceutical companies for writing prescriptions.
I was heavier than I thought during a doc visit. I was floored at the weight. Dr laughs and asks me what I'm going to do. People are thin skinned. Dr doesn't need the stress of someone going ballistic. If people don't see the flab , too bad. Many people will never exercise either
Being a nurse in geriatrics we always gave patients the tools to lose weight, exercise and eat healthier. You can bring a horse to water but you can’t make them drink it.
Nobody took me complaining about dry skin on my legs seriously. Thank you so much for mentioning it here. I always thought it was unrelated. I've been using coconut oil as a moisturizer after I bathe and it has helped keep the skin from breaking.
I was told that the valves in my vein wasn't working right. They wanted to go down my vein with a needle and with sound waves killed the vein I didn't want to do that. What do you think about the valve not working in the vein?
I had an injury to my groin area when I was 16, just from sitting up from a lying postion on a doctor's table, I remember feeling the pop...it caused a major DVT and I had to be put on blood thinners for months. I was even hospilized for almost 3 weeks. My leg is now permanently swollen and discolored. It makes me feel a little self-conscious and bummed cause I have one nice, beautiful leg and one swollen and discolored leg. I need a vein valve repair....praying someday it can happen. 😢 I stay active and have lost almost 100 pounds in the last few years just to help ease symptoms. It does help. I can't wear the compressions socks, they actually hurt my leg where the sock ends at the top of the leg and makes it feel like it's stopping blood from flowing freely.
super helpful. My mom has lymdema and her legs can be very painful. Will pass on the video to her. I get the swelling at the end of the day. Will walk more throughout the day. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video. I have lymphedema and purchased the wedge back in February; it is SO helpful and comfortable. Also, I was recently diagnosed with piriformis syndrome, and I find that sleeping on my back and using the wedge also relieves the pain associated with that condition.
Give our regards to Bob and tell him we're thinking about him. Thanks for the timely video. I'm going to the vascular surgeon next week to check out my varicose veins. I was diagnosed with reflux (I think that's what they called it).
@@BobandBrad wow my father has arterial sclerosis with a 100% blockage in both legs.(they’re think possible amputation) Iam going to bye him a foam roller to start rolling. Any other advice you can share with me would be appreciated.
Thanks Brad and Mike! I wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing for my condition, and I am on the right track, so thanks. Hello to Bob behind the camera!!
You know what I do? In the evenings I have to lay on my back. Because I have to do that I move my legs around in the air, especially, stretching calf muscles etc. if there's some jazzy music on I put both my legs up in the air and I shake my ankles just as vigorously as I can and for as long as I can. Strange as it may seem, all these "mermaid" like movements, especially the ankle shaking, really help.
Mine was related to trauma after a rooster aggressively introduced himself to the back of my leg with his talons and claws. It took almost 3 years to heal completely and get blood flow back to the area. My muscles seized up and I had to work through the emotional trauma of that event. Once I cleared it, I was put into a survival situation while kayaking, which led me to using those muscles to save myself. Instantly, the flow was back and improves every day. I didn't go see a doctor because it wasn't necessary. I knew what was happening without any physical symptoms.
Thank you so much for your very informative information. I started suffering with leg swelling after my neck surgery. I will be trying the things you suggested. Thank you
Compression calf sleeves have worked the best for me, and are much easier for me to put on and fit into. The calf sleeves marathon runners wear are what I get, and they come in lots of fun colors.
Thanks for covering this topic, but wish you also included venous insufficiency and any exercises that would work for that issue. Keep up the great videos!
Yes! I have varicose veins, and even though I wear compression stockings and have a job where I walk about 30-80% of my day, my ankles/legs are usually somewhat swollen by about halfway through the day. Also, the shin of the leg with the worse varicose veins has an incredibly itchy rash that doesn't go away even with steroid ointments. I don't want to keep using steroids that don't really work for long, so I use a lanolin-based moisurizer instead. That definitely helps, but the skin has gotten thicker and more leathery and started developing tiny sores. I do NOT want this to get any worse. I'm thinking about having the varicose veins themselves treated, but the foam roller looks interesting, too. Also, I have tingling in my foot on that same leg sometimes, and sciatia under that buttock. Usually after I've been sitting. I have mild tailbone pain that used to be worse until I bought a special foam chair pad, which helped, but I have to wonder if the foam pad contributed to sciatic nerve damage. So, since sciatica is suppose to be a back issue, I am wondering how well lying down with my legs up might help my back/sciatic nerve, too.
3 Scenarios You Might Be Dealing With: Atherosclerosis Pain as day goes on Lymphedema Possible Treatments: Foam Rolling Elevation of legs every time you sit/rest Ankle pumps (10-20 reps every 1/2 hr as needed) Compression socks/garments Very helpful explanations, thanks guys!

Hi Mike and Brad! Hi Bob in the background!!! Thanks for sharing this with us. I'll definitely try to incorporate what I can when I stretch! I use compression socks because I'm not as Physically active anymore so I'm using it to prevent any issues.
Miss Bob! Had doubts about replacement Mike but he has made a seem less transition Lol one concern was voice, so different than “laid back Bob” , but is very pleasant GOD be with our Bob in his journey thank you all
Just diagnosed with Venus Insufficiency and told to get compression socks - but that’s all I was told. Doctors certainly don’t give enough info - going to see someone at a foot clinic, hopefully will get more info. Thanks for video!
Just wanted to say that his comments at the end of the video about taking care of your dry skin is extremely important! I have severe lymphedema and now I have severe infections in both legs. It is hell to try to treat an endure both because it hurts so much I can't do the exercise I so badly need to do! And this is very important..... once your legs start looking better, don't stop! You have to keep going for perhaps months trust me I know what I'm talking about
Something I have done that is very helpful is to sit in the car and do leg presses against the floor. Pick up your toes when you breathe in, press down hard as you breathe out, then repeat. The car is the only place I know sturdy enough to do this.
Your info on lymphedema is not complete but, as you say, it is important to speak to a doctor. However, I am thrilled that you are bringing attention to this condition.❤
alternating the flex/extension pumping (extend one ankle while flexing the other) makes it less disruptive to what youre doing seated... both at once makes bouncing
Loved the info but, maybe for the younger crowd(not me BTW), a little education in the direction with how NOT to get circulation problems when you're younger. What did we do wrong over the years to get in this condition and how to avoid would be nice.
6:22 I've got venous insufficiency. It can be hereditary, being sedentary or overweight can bring it on or make it worse if you inherited it. Thanks, mom Lok
But what if you had a venous disease and as result the large venous blood vessel from the ankle and up to the groin was removed? What are the best excercises?
These are great ideas! My hubby ended up getting stints in his veins bcz his legs swell. He's gotten 3 so far. He'll get 1 more next week. 2 per leg. They're painful to get. These exercises are easier than getting stints! FYI
@sunflower153 Forgive me, English is my second language - I looked up stints but found nothing that could be related to the subject. Did you mean stents? Thank you.
In mid-sixties, I simply bought a nice indoor exercise bike and I use it every day for at least 20 minutes - some days I can only handle being on it for ten minutes - but on those days i do three 10 minute sessions.
Mike's voice sets my teeth on edge, because his voice comes across much louder and more shrill than Brad's. You need a sound leveler when you're editing these videos to make both voices the same volume.
I'm 67 and starting to get 'cankles'. (UK nurses word for swollen ankles). I use open-toe compression stockings every other night. For quick fluid reduction, I lay on my back with my butt against the wall, legs vertical, and do the ankle-pumping for a minute on, 5 minutes off, for a half hour. My current medication is 'furosemide' 40mg daily. Seems to work! 🙂
I also take lasix,80 mg daily .dont forget to add potassium to your lasix ,im on 10 mg daily. My Dr recently added spironolactone. He said it does the same as lasix but doesnt deplete the potassium in my body..so im overlapping at the moment. Still have swollen feet and legs. Its awful.
Suggestions for those who believe. Just go to keep the calfs warm always during sleeping. Buy a electric warming pad with a temperature control. Set the temperature control between 38C and 42C. Put it underneath your calfs as sleeping.
Venous stasis and CHF are the big two conditions I see all the time with swelling in legs and feet. CHF is by far the most prevalent I see with elderly population.
Your videos are so good, thank you guys! I have very sore lower legs and ankles. My ankle feel hot and look red and bruised all the time. I used to go for long walks but only short distances now. Do you have any ideas on how to treat this problem? 🙏🏻💐
Hot and red? I'd see a dr or urgent care asap. Hot red skin is often a sign of infection. (Such as cellulitis which needs immediate treatment). Please be careful and see a dr.
Thank you thank you thank you for the video. As a truck driver I deal with swelling in my legs daily. My doctor put me on a water pill but then that gives me a magnesium deficiency issue. So I started wearing socks 6 months ago and my legs feel better but it's nice seeing the video on how to roll my legs to increase the circulation. And it's nice to know walking will help
For this excellent public service God Almighty Bless u and your beloved ones with health happiness wisdom compassion tranquility prosperity and love Ameen
Thank you, I'll speak with my doctor (arteriosclerosis I already know nope; varicose veins a bit but at my age that's normal; lymphedema sounds like it) but for now I've traded my sitting footrest for a higher one. I already wiggle my legs a lot when seated (always have done that if I'm by myself) and the bathroom is on the other end of the house...
I'm a blue collar worker been on my feet 99% of my working life. Lifting climbing shoveling etc etc etc. My doctor told me I needed to start an exercise program. I looked at her wide-eyed and said did you not just hear what I do for a living? I said when I'm done with the day's work I want to go home and relax I don't want to go to a gym or go out for a walk that's the last thing on my mind.
Thank you so very much.. Your guidance is spot on - it is very impt to catch & work with early on.. Later on it may be contributing to other serious diseases...u may reach a point of dragging the legs ,then falls ...muscles tighten in legs & back..& it affects lungs & breathing..get tons of blood work..this could be simple if early or later lead to blockages..gastro..& other things So v important to see primary care..a vein specialist Avoid surgery etc.. these exercises are important ...ty
Thank you, this video helped me very much, now I have information to help me work on my situation. Thank you so so much for sharing!!! Your Awesome!! 😃👍💜
I had to wear a compression stocking on my right leg after I was diagnosed with blood clots in my leg. After the swelling went away I stopped wearing my stocking/sleeve. Years earlier both my lower legs would swell, and I thought it was just from my sedentary job. Many years later I realized that my legs swell more due to foods in my diet than lack of mobility. The more foods that are in the carbohydrate family that I eat the more my legs swell. I went very low carb, less than 20 grams a day, and my edema went away. Now when I'm not eating low carb for a while, and my legs start to swell, I know I'm over doing the carbs. I'm going to try the advice given in the video to see if that will help even more.
I was in an accident with a big truck. Vertebrae crushed the nerves to one leg, so now the valves that control the blood flow close very very slowly. So I get pitting edema in that leg. It got wayyy better when I lost weight but the last 3 months it has come back😢
I've been wearing compression socks for a few years now. I started wearing them on my own. I have an issue behind my left knee, at the top of the calf that has never been diagnosed. Some kind of compression keeps that at bay. Meanwhile, my legs have started to swell on a regular basis. I have spoken with my primary physician as well as my neurologist about how dry my skin gets underneath the compression sock. Neither one of them mentioned anything about staying on top of the dry skin as it could lead to something as you mentioned.
I've read and tried this: after a shower/bath rub Vaseline onto your legs well. It thoroughly moisturizes your skin. You'll see a noticeable difference.
@@Susann1984gosh that’s an old method but a good one! It’s easier for strength-impaired people to use lotion rather than Vaseline though because of absorption time & energy effort 😕
I asked my Podiatrist to recommend a good foot cream. He said the best thing is equal parts petroleum jelly (Vaseline) and diabetic foot cream. That has pain killers in it. Or any foot cream. I had one, mixed it up and it's amazing. It soaks in better than Vaseline alone does. Cheap to try.
I have none of these issues but my hands and feet are cold all winter long. Come summer no issues. Unless I’m highly active my feet and hands are always cold. Nothing more awesome than meeting someone shaking their hand with your cold ass hands and theirs are toasty warm...
Another awesome vid for me anyways, I love when you guys touch on the Lymphatic System and all I can find on the internet is little about that system and the bit I do find they don't agree with where the lymph is returned to the system, some say back in the blood system and others says through the kidneys I agree with the Kidney idea because the kidneys are a true filter system. I get a lot of help from you guys for sure Thx again.
I consulted an ortho surgeon injected one vial if steroids left ang right leg resulting too much painful. The effect of Prednisone will be good for six months then another two vials for another six months. Thank you for your video it helps a lot. More power. God blesd Take care.
Thank you Bob and Brad for this information,I do have a problem with poor circulation, When I walk for a few hours on my legs, they will have intensity too swell up in both legs and after a while they start hurting,so what you are saying is basically keep my legs elevated when sitting or laying down right? Now about the stockings would you recommend them for what I explained to you? Ok! Thank you both. Please tell Bob, I'm sending prayers to him for good health.🙏✝️
I have been diagnosed with May Thurner Syndrome. My left iliac vein is compressed between the right illac artery and a bone spur on my spine cause by failed back surgery. Vein is 80% occluded. Doctors are afraid to touch it (stent or surgery) due to calcification of vein. They all say there is nothing that can be done to help me. Before this I was a very active mountain biker with no circulation problems.
Well I can't use the foam rollers because I can't lift up like that but I've noticed that if I take one foot and rub it up and down behind the other leg it feels really good and I do that a little bit before I get out of bed. I bet this is why. My foot is my foam roller. No clue how long I would have to do it though. It's moving both legs so it has to be a good thing! 💕🎉🎉🎉
@dianebash9402 it's a omron electro massage therapy, look up examples on RUclips, but I put the electro pads on my calf and it goes for 15min per cycle, by the end of 2nd cycle I can already see n feel results but about another half hr or so swelling is gone for most part ,I also sleep with my feet higher than my heart , Goodluck ✌️

Thanks to you both. As always, great and thorough information.. Thanks to you both. As always, great and thorough information..
I learn so much from these guys! I'm so grateful to have found them several years ago. Thanks to all three of you.
Love the 2 man team! Thank you for helpful information and positive vibrations.
Miss Bob!
Had doubts about replacement Mike but he has made a seem less transition
Lol one concern was voice, so different than “laid back Bob” , but is very pleasant
GOD be with our Bob in his journey thank you all
Just diagnosed with Venus Insufficiency and told to get compression socks - but that’s all I was told.
You have to keep going for perhaps months trust me I know what I'm talking about
THANK YOU!
Your video has helped me immensely!
Thank you! I'm so happy you put this together for our library, if needed in the future. ❤
Happy it was useful!
Something I have done that is very helpful is to sit in the car and do leg presses against the floor. Pick up your toes when you breathe in, press down hard as you breathe out, then repeat. The car is the only place I know sturdy enough to do this.
I love all your videos, thank you so much!
You are very welcome!
You can purchase a stocking donner, which makes putting stockings on so much easier.
Your info on lymphedema is not complete but, as you say, it is important to speak to a doctor. However, I am thrilled that you are bringing attention to this condition.❤
Thanks, happy to help as much as we can!
alternating the flex/extension pumping
(extend one ankle while flexing the other)
makes it less disruptive to what youre
doing seated... both at once makes bouncing
Thanks!
Thanks, mom

Thanks guys, this is very timely. Mine is due to Long Covid issues and vein issues.
FYI
Glad to hear it!
@sunflower153 Forgive me, English is my second language - I looked up stints but found nothing that could be related to the subject. Did you mean stents? Thank you.
Yes, stents. Typo 😊
@@sunflower6153 Thank you for clarifying :)
Its awful.
Definitely need this. My problem seems from being overweight and kidney disease.
Sorry to hear that.
Thanks 4 sharing the exercise for blood circulation of the leg
i have all 3 of those plus i had ankle surgery 2x in 7 months....im still in therapy for this 2nd surgery and that was 3 months ago...
Wear compression socks. Also move your toes often, just move them while sitting down.
What's CHF?
@@helenapetrovich9334 congestive heart failure
Your videos are so good, thank you guys! I have very sore lower legs and ankles. My ankle feel hot and look red and bruised all the time. I used to go for long walks but only short distances now. Do you have any ideas on how to treat this problem? 🙏🏻💐
Hot and red? I'd see a dr or urgent care asap. Hot red skin is often a sign of infection. (Such as cellulitis which needs immediate treatment). Please be careful and see a dr.
Very helpful.Thank you both.Iam having this problem with my feet.
As always, thanks for the video. Useful information. Will put it to good use! Thank you both…or I should say all three of you. Hello, Bob. 👍
I really appreciate the work you are doing. Please keep on
Thank you thank you thank you for the video.
L
magnesium chloride, sodium chloride and potassium chloride are the major electrolytes and need to be balanced. idiot doctors.
For this excellent public service God Almighty
Bless u and your beloved ones with health happiness wisdom compassion tranquility prosperity and love Ameen
Thank you
Where were you guys??? I feel I have been looking for you folks all my life!!
Great Video guys!! ...I was told that Leg circulation problems can be from overweight issues or Having Diabetes..
Those two things can lead to some issues, yes, but there are other things that can cause it as well.
Thanks Bob & Brad, great insights! Poor health is costly, health is wealth.
Thank you.
What about for someone who is over weight ? What should they do? As for as for exercise.
Doctors don't look at patients as individuals anymore - now we are simply statistics.
Thank you so very much..
Your guidance is spot on - it is very impt to catch & work with early on..
Later on it may be contributing to other serious diseases...u may reach a point of dragging the legs ,then falls ...muscles tighten in legs & back..& it affects lungs & breathing..get tons of blood work..this could be simple if early or later lead to blockages..gastro..& other things
So v important to see primary care..a vein specialist Avoid surgery etc.. these exercises are important ...ty
You guys are Good and you actually answer or acknowledge peoples comments 👍🏽
Of course, thanks!
What about soft tissue edema left ankle is it coming from heart trouble
Thank you, this video helped me very much, now I have information to help me work on my situation. Thank you so so much for sharing!!! Your Awesome!! 😃👍💜
I have restless leg syndrome and reduced my electric massagers with rolling massagers also hand kneading massaging just a few of many .
QUESTION: Is it common for the swelling to affect just one leg/ankle or both?
Yes. Usually it's more on the other leg.
I was in an accident with a big truck. Vertebrae crushed the nerves to one leg, so now the valves that control the blood flow close very very slowly. So I get pitting edema in that leg. It got wayyy better when I lost weight but the last 3 months it has come back😢
Good explanation - I'll follow you two!!!
Good vid guys! You didn't mention venous insufficiency, which may take surgery to correct.
Thank you!
Thank you so much Brad & Mike. Love from Australia! X🇦🇺
Thank you for watching!
Try Heane free castor oil for your ankles. If you may have HBP check your meds it could be a long term symptom.
@@renel7303 sounds like a great option 👍🏼
There is a device to help put on compression socks; it’s available on Amazon and it works to make it easy to put compression socks on
We are eager to see Sri Bob in the video. I am also wishing him all the best to appear in the Bob and Brad health video asap.
Dr Bob and Dr Brad l must recommend you for your good work
Thanks!
Anytime, we are happy to help!
I consulted an ortho surgeon injected one vial if steroids left ang right leg resulting too much painful. The effect of Prednisone will be good for six months then another two vials for another six months. Thank you for your video it helps a lot. More power. God blesd
Take care.
Great advice. Thank you gentlemen!
Can wearing wrong kind of socks start the problem?
In my job i walk alot. In the warehouse business
I use my tenns unit to handle it when it gets bad ,just a couple cycles and swelling goes away ✌️
What is that may I ask? I would love to try something else.
