Good to know! I have a Triumph T-120 and have always loved the clutch on it! Looking at getting a new Africa Twin as a second bike……so liked your comment on the throttle/clutch! Great review!
I’m 72 and own/ride a few bikes, one of which is a fully farkled “black” Africa Twin DCT. Took me a long time to learn how to skillfully use the DCT, which may seem counterintuitive for something called “automatic” but maybe thats what happens after fifty years of riding. I’m hoping to buy at least one more AT DCT (with the 19” wheel) but I’m waiting for three changes: 1) More subtle graphics; don’t want flashy. 2) Blind spot alerts (gettin’ old, want the nanny gimmicks now. 3) Adaptive cruse control.
Great review. This new DCT isn't comparable to the older one. It is so precise and smooth, even off road, as if it is reading the situation. And with the ability to slap on a foot gear shifter and switch to manual, I no longer see the benefit to buying a manual AT. Yes, the foot shifter is electronic, but you do get the simulated feel of a quick shifter and you never need to pull a hand lever. I do think it's the future of 2 wheeling, especially if/when, unfortunately, the market shifts to electric.
@@adventureundone they completely redesigned hydraulic control over motors in the gearbox. There is none whisky throttle, it is super smooth in slow manoeuvres, it doesn't jump forward at all like the previous model. For me when I tested one from the dealer I was very impressed. also when riding fast somehow it's changing even more smoothly and in the perfect time. It's hard to explain, just test it :)
With Honda cars, when you turn traction off, it's really still on. It's a Honda thing. On their cars, you can do a combination of pressing the traction button, parking brake button and pressing the brake pedal in a particular sequence and it will 100% disable the traction. The traction light starts flashing like crazy to tell you it's turned off. I suspect the new Africa Twin has a similar setup and maybe a similar hack to turn it completely off.
I don't understand why they don't just simulate a manual clutch and foot shifter for a deluxe bike like this. Just have the controls there for going off road.

Traction control will now kick in even if it is completely off IF wheelie control is still on under some circumstances where there is only rear wheel slip and no threat of a wheelie. Its basically two layers of traction control now and its very dangerous because it WILL cut all power under some circumstances. Happened to me several times and almost made me fall.
