Making A Leather Dog Collar By Hand
Razzberry is Kayleena's pup, and she hangs out with us at the shop every day. She also likes to roll around in everything she finds - and thus, her collar gets rather stinky. We made her a new leather dog collar out of natural vegetable tanned leather with brass hardware. It's a lined collar so it's extra comfortable for her (though she's admittedly rarely on a leash!).
Making a leather dog collar is fairly simple and a good beginner project. Just make sure to stitch the whole strap for strength, as the tug of a larger dog can stretch and weaken leather without stitching. Also make sure that when you make your leather dog collar, the most smooth parts of your hardware and trim are facing inwards as to not hurt your pup.

I love that your dog 🐕is a wild child. 😂 thank you for yet another awesome tutorial 😎
That's one happy puppy! Nice collar!
You do mighty fine work
What a darling dog.
thats a nice collar and a beautiful dog .
I’m just here for the dog… reminds me of my old dog.
I guess that’s a nice collar too - simple project with all different skills in one little package. 😉
I love what you do
great project👍🍀
Awesome video. I'm looking to make my first dog collar soon. I wish there was a bit more instruction because I looked the simplicity in your method. Some of the videos I've seen involve more steps than I'm looking to do for a first try
Wow! I’m now subscriber 18001! I love this page!
so beautiful! good dog))))
Very nice ... Thank you.
Setting up to make one for my Buddy. Thanks for the great video.
DePoppe Leatherworks
Love that splitter. :)
your videos are just great

Every man’s best friend deserves a hand made collar
Good job
Пёс старичек, милый
The best parts were the happy dog 🤗
Where do you get your brass rivets from? I've been searching and I can't seem to find them. AWESOME JOB BTW!
What stitching chisels are you using? What’s the spacing?
Like the channel, like the video. 10+
Nice work. But the music took me by surprise lol. Im used to your silent movies lol
What weight leather was the main collar made from and what was used for the inside lining?
This is my 'satisfying videos' channel.
What kind of thread do you use,it's obviously not waxed?
Could you please do a video on how to make a belt.
What brand leather chisel do you use
What weight of leather should I use for an 80lb dog? And should I use Chicago screws? What size? Is 1 1/2” wide enough? So many questions. TIA
I think I'll just go & buy one now
Thank you
❤
I'm curious what size brass rivets you used for this collar? Thanks!
I'm wondering the same thing but unless you have the same thickness of leather it might not be the right size for you
I ask the same question on the LV wallet but I thought you may see it if I ask on your latest vid. Do you make the LV style wallet with just leather?
yep! Shoot us a message using the contact form on our website, we can make you one no prob!

What was that glue for? 2:40? Is that to make it water resistant?
Every time I see that glue brush it reminds me of a scorpion. Great job.
A scorpion tail
Че за чудо заклепки такие? Впервые такие вижу
🐶👍🏽
Kindly make video of camera strap
What kind of punch is that?
Looks great. Question: why first split and then glue it back again😳
Josh Luijsterburg I would guess to not have the flesh side of the leather against the dogs neck. 😊
U should make a lead next
It’s a beautiful collar! But the dog didn’t look too thrilled to put it on. Lol
thanks! she's not a big fan of cameras, they're her least favorite thing in the world haha
the width of the leather should be higher because the dog is large.
Супер!!! Хочу такой пробойник как у вас. Живу в России. Пришлите. Заплачу.Ольга.
0:26...😍😍
Might I ask about the thread you use? I'm really unsure of what to buy. I've been sewing my whole life. But, now that I'm working with leather I'm unsure what type and sizes to buy. I see many people ask this question but, not many answers. I was thinking The Maine Thread co. because I hear them mentioned a lot. My main use is camera bags. That's how I got into leather work. I couldn't find what I was looking for in a bag. There's a lot of bad hardware out there. And my dog is my life! I'm looking to sell dog collars and leashes around here, to raise money for a service dog. If you have any advice please comment back. Thank You to anyone reading this! Have a great day!
Thread size is different for everyone because it depends on the tools you're using to make your holes - it's also different from brand to brand! I'd recommend getting samples or small small spools of different threads and sizes to see what you like best for the tools you are using. For Maine Thread, you'll only want to go with their smallest thread sizes for leatherwork as the larger ones are very, very chunky. We also use Ritza Tiger thread and Vinymo threads depending on the ools we're using to make our stitching holes and the desired look of the piece
Must be fun to hang out at the beach with your faithful friend, What is the pooch's name? My son wants a collar like that for his dog, but is waiting for the pup to grow up. That is an old splitter, you must have been happy when you found it. I like how you stropped the blade for it.
May I ask, where do you get those rivets made of brass from?
Sure! Weaver Leather carries them :)
Ok, I see you use crimson
Don't intend to criticize but ya gotta be careful with those hoodie drawstrings - working that closely to a spinning piece of machinery (burnisher) could be very bad. Very. Bad.
Always have loved the videos and now the doggo! Plus the Jeep Cherokee! :)
if you use machine its not by hand 🤦♂️
