The biggest thing I’ve noticed in heroics and raids is there is no room to be healing dps who are taking avoidable damage. People standing in mechanics and getting HPs taken down to 5% it’s going to take me mana I don’t really have to get that person back up.
that's 100% a thing alex, there's no room whatsoever for dps to make mistakes. maybe that's the biggest takeaway from this

@@alexlamb7904 it's the part that only recently clicked for me, that the damage at some points is designed to require a CD. worst part is realizing XT in ulduar was the same way and I never once realized we should be using cds that way lol
Just dont heal the dps who fails the mechanics, when i heal i have a dps meter thats only shows damage taken, sometimes im at 17khps in hc Dungeons and when that happens i tell the grp whats going on and what they should be doing
I healed back in the day as an hpal, so I still remember the proper enchants, flasks, food, and reforges. I did a bit of heroic raiding at the behest of my priest friend and she vouched for me to join their raiding guild. Good times.
that is great gorrum, to me the problem is that a lot of players haven't had the cata/retail experience and it's an insanely big adjustment from classic and just sort of pressing 1 button over and over
luckily enough holy paladins are pretty straight forward as far as what you need for reforging. you gear needs to have spirit haste for it to be a perfect item. if it is missing spirit something gets reforged into it... if it has spirit and not haste the item gets reforged into haste. super simple. as far as consumes, starting out anything with an intellect boost is your best friend because of how it works now with mana and having spirit on all your gear should be plenty to compensate for more mana and bigger heals.... what is crit used for again in cata? lol
What do you think the best 2 heal comps are for each class in 10 mans? Kinda weird this gets left out of many videos given it seems there is a 50/50 split between 10 and 25 groups unlike wrath
hmmm..i think you definitely want 2 with a flex 3rd, probably disc + hpal or disc rdruid with shaman flex. that's what we do, maybe i'm biased but i like playing druid in 10s

im 10/12 heroic as a resto sham, I feel like healing is fine it's just a matter of people doing mechanics and helping with personals
personals are big and everyone doing the mechanics perfectly, easier said than done, few groups seem to do all the mechanics perfectly lol

The TLDR in this video is realistically just “coordinate better and don’t slack” which is valid, but knowing when to use consumes and when to use raid utility to give survivability / mana regeneration CDs will always be the play for progression and early t11. It does get easier with gear, but the real truth though is
Most of these harder bosses requires clean transitions more so than anything. For example, clean transition on netharion phases, and slowing dps when needed for each 10% crackle, clean transitions into al akirs various phases, clean transitions on heroic AC, clean transition on Cho gall/sinestra, etc. all these fights if your raid team is executing the mechanics properly and at a healthy time, the bosses will fall. The most healer coordination we have is for neth p3 to just always have a rotation of CDs between the healers, AMZ, And rally from warriors. We vocalize if people are drinking concs so other healers know, etc. being coordinated wins fights
i think like 5% of the playerbase is actually aware of their character and if they are standing in fire or not
it's true it's more about the coordination and transitions than anything else. the real takeaway from the video that i want but i don't think i articulated properly is: everyone has a role, everyone should be assigned that role, ideally it's going to pop on your screen when it's your turn to do that role. with addons and prep work this can be 1000x easier

Cata is when healers started becoming busted in pvp, because mortal strike was nerfed from 50% to 25 in the pre patch at the end of lich king

So many people are putting down resto druids, they’re stuck living in the past of tvc and wotlk. My main is a 359 ilvl geared resto Druid, hands down, top healing class if played right!
i agree rdruid owns i think they help carry a lot on prog with thei aoe heals. do you use qe live for gearing? it really helped me
Every class can be an amazing healer if played right. Problem is that most healers just don't know how to play. Me included at least during week 1 but ended up speaking with some top performers to figure out what I was doing wrong and it was a real simple mistake due to me still thinking in terms of wrath healing and not using one specific spell because in wrath it was a big no no for me but in cata that one healing spell is actually supposed to be one of my main healing spells during high damage moments.
@@ahetzel9054 yeah your actions are exactly what everyone needs to do. but few have done it so far. i also was humbled week one and realized i had to drastically change how i played. have since made a lot of improvements but it's just a big adjustment

Haven't done heroics yet because no guild, but I've seen enough healers in heroic dungeons and the harder normal raid fights struggle because they haven't adapted to cata yet.
A lot of players go from never using mana until tank is below 40% to spamming every bad hps/mana spell they can when they panic.
Every single Nefarian try I've done was dps stacking and dodging fire as fast they could, while healers still struggled to heal between an electrocute and the next which is insane to me. I get that most of the time blaming dps for dying to mechanics was fair in wotlk, but that's not the case right now in my experience and it's pretty obvious to me that most healer mains have no clue how to play.
Yep cata has a massive healing adjustment that healers are struggling to adapt to. Will cost guilds a lot of resources and time. What can be done?

we need public tools to take things to a higher level across the board or the game will die. cata healers will hold back progression

I absolutely LOVE healing in Cataclysm, just because of how challenging and overall fun it is. I think the real reason why some people might think that healing in Cata is so difficult is because healing in Wrath was an absolute shit show and it required absolutely no skill whatsoever. You just basically sit in 1 or 2 spots and press 1 with the ocassional press of 2 during the entire fight's duration. You didn't need to care about mana at all, or even who are you healing or which spell you're using because regardless of which spell you used, you are going to top everyone from 0 to 100 including tanks... As a healer, I love having things to manage like my mana, which spells should I use for this this specific part of the fight and who should I prioritize and heal first, that's why Cata healing is far superior to Wrath's counterpart.

yep it's the best way. problem is that the boss spells aren't always obvious - it's like..you have to kind of trial and error. apparently retail is the way to make the notes and i will do it next phase

dps players self police, the whole idea of logs, sims, everything means dps show up ahead of healers in terms of performance more often than not
@@NOHITJEROME Very true, there is a reason why people cry about gatekeeping through logs for dps but no one does for healers.

Difference unlike wotlk where mana is endless, cata forces your healers to think and time your spells. Once you fully spirit geared, this becomes manageable. In many cata heroic fights it's not even about set up just bringing in an extra healer at fights to reduce the strain on the raid. The end. I saved you 8 mins of his BS...
hmm..even with extra heals you have to coordinate or wipe, it's the dark side of the way they designed the mechanics
@@NOHITJEROME I need to correct you there Jerome. If you're doing CATA heroics, by default as a healer. Every item must be priority healer itemized. I think all must have full spirit gear followed by your most valuable stat. Example mastery priest or Haste Resto druid. Once you did that in CATA Heroic, gear actually factually matters. Every bit of additional intellect and spirit really makes a difference. Halfus 10 hc with 2 healers vs Halfus 10 hc with 3 healers is an ocean of difference. Nefarian 10 hc another one, where doing it with 2 is almost guaranteed suicide. Yes, alternating cooldowns becomes a big priority because it's given in advance what phases will be most stressful. But again, endless mana pool vs restrictive mana pool plays a big big part in cata healing. There are some classes that are by default more powerful in the mana efficiency department; Holy paladins but you need a mix of several healers to make it out alive.
@@ABC-ABC1234 @ABC-ABC1234 it's true that your healers being optimized and having the right number of them for e very encounter is crucial. one thing that annoys me is that a lot of druids pretend rdruid is great for 10man when the meta is hpal/disc, there are 100% certain healer combos that are better than others for 10man and the content is far easier if you have the right classes. good points though overall
@@NOHITJEROME I was wiping several tries at Halfus 10 hc, until we had enough of 2 healers and then went one try with 3 healers and got him to 5% and the next try was a kill with 4 healers because one dps wasn't doing all that well overall! Yes, you heard that correctly 4 healers, if I had known you would cheat the boss just by bringing in an extra healer, then surely we would have done that tactic at the start... Resto druids are great, but it greatly depends on your healer having the correct addons and popup notifications WHEN to pop what spell. (tree of life with 5 or more targets lifebloomed gets you insta regrowth with clearcasting very regularly during the initial burst phase)Trinket wise, having darkmoon card and the Cho'gall trinket is actually what will greatly save a healer from going crazy, it's not even a matter of big tacts just big damage being thrown to your raid. It seems Cata 10 heroic raiding is horribly tuned in terms of damage received compared to 25 heroic. When you're still learning the fight, the biggest concern in cata is the manapool working against you. Holy paladins I agree are by far the most efficient ones, mana wise. I have played with utter trashadins as well, where regardless of class carry, they underperform and it shows in healing/ overhealing/ time running oom. Still this expansion is so much more interesting than wotlk (farm solace trinkets and never worry about mana)
It’s just laziness - healers have wrath brain and have no desire to research their spec for cata - I watch disc priests still spam pws and go oom when boss is 60% hp. People are just clueless even content creators that spammed the cata healer tier lists prior to cata release. Everyone said holy priest is B tier but it’s actually beating disc and has the single best raid cd in the game lol.
ye it's a research thing more than anything. knowing the optimal rotation and most efficient spells. it's either you know it or you have no hope lol
Well of course holy is going to do high HPS, most disc priests arent playing correctly. I was really struggling as disc till I spoke with some others to figure out what I was doing wrong because all the guides right now are only going over stat prio and talents and not how to actually properly play disc. Parsed really bad week 1 but I'm doing much better after knowing a bit more. Plus disc priest is one of those classes that needs to know the fights better than every one else in order to reach peak performance.

I have all 4 healers in raids and I mained heals back in og cata. Most healers just dont know how to heal in cata plain and simple.
it's true. you have the experience and know what you are doing but classic players myself included..it's a big adjustment to retail style healing

In this version of the game I can see why everyone quit. Its because everyone was responsilble for carrying there weight. I mean they gave us a spell to pull people of standing in stuff. You gotta get good or quit in this version.
yeah everyone is responsible for carrying their own weight whereas in classic 2019 it was pretty much the tank and the warriors - honestly a fun time to heal lol
Yup it’s the best part of Cata it’s when skill came to the game! If you have had to pug so far you can tell the difference in your guild run and a pug run pugs are just trash they don’t even watch a short RUclips video to learn the fights let alone how to play there class to the best of there ability or even half. We had to pug 2 dps last night in BWD we 1 shot every boss but no not last night pugs die every single fight it’s just sad even a simple add on like GTFO can save them a headache
Classic healers are the worst of the classic players on average because up until cata there was no real pressure put on them. Back when cata was the current expansion my guild and I had to drop most of our old healer core coming from wrath for that reason, it became painfully obvious very fast that most had no idea what they were doing and got to skate by unnoticed to that point. And we even snagged some decent progress kills back in cata vanilla getting world 12th on halfus heroic. But it was very clear that the healers were holding the group back even at a higher level back then.
yeah you lived through what everyone else is experiencing right now. the healers are holding back progression in a lot of guilds. they were able to coast for years
@@NOHITJEROME It's really interesting to watch things replaying almost like looking in a warped mirror. So many things playing out exactly like they did. Cata was when simming gear and external sources like that started to get big. Like the paid program that would do all your reforging for you, that could be linked with simcraft started near the end of cata.
well cata also stops tanks from just standing still and dpsing to keep up with threat and also dps from standing still in whatever bad so they can get that much closer to their personal best on a fight. parsing ruined raids in all the classic expansions so far up till now you have to do the mechanics and figure out for yourself how you're still going to parse numbers, because it doesn't matter good healers or bad can not heal you through the bullshit anymore no matter how geared or knowledgeable of their class... it was very eye opening as a paladin leveling from 80-85 watching tanks and dps not interrupting abilities and moving out of "bad" and it became painfully apparent in heroic dungeons getting ready for raids just how lazy people thought they were going to be especially after months of Gama dungeons in WOTLK being so easy a toddler could do them.
So becaude his guild has shit healers, its just safe to assume all healers suck?

@@NOHITJEROME I don't believe that at all. My guild and I have been scanning logs and going over others strats and it seems more like a "fights just hit hard af atm". People 4 heal 10m heroic nef. Not because "healers suck" but because fights are just tuned to stomp on till we gear up
So.. this entire video is just telling us about different 3rd party add-ons...
that's the reality of cataclysm. if you don't use them there's not much hope for heroics

true it's also personal responsbility a lot of the time. i guess my theory is more: there are a lot of healer related wipes. if the dps were causing that level of wipes, it would be unacceptable. but nobody understands healing so it just continues and continues

So like....who is this video for? I have no idea what other peoples raids look like but to assume healers don't use the right consumes, haven't been simming and mixing their gear, dont know CDs, aren't running bis comp is nuts. We've been using Angry Assignments since TBC with a very simple CD rotation on fights that require it avoids having everyone to download a bunch of different addons and is super lightweight and easy. Everyone knows what the cd rotation is, raid lead calls it, done. To talk about the assumption that wipes are occuring because 'healers suck' is pretty ignorant. There's a ton of variables that go into fights and generally wipes are occuring due to a non-optimized strategy, or when key players make mistakes and die to one shot mechanics. I watch and like almost all your videos but this one didn't do it for me man. Maybe it was just made for poorly performing guilds or something but like.....I dunno just feels like the wrong tone and subtext to talk about some tips and tricks for healers.
hi andrew, i don't want it to feel overly negative but dps sim and minmax and healers just don't do that. maybe in the very top guilds, but it doesn't feel like healers do the same. this is retail now and progression requires a lot of addons and analysis that wasn't needed before. not my cup of tea but that's how it is

@@NOHITJEROME while i feel what you are trying to say here, healers can use logs as well to compare themselves to the top healers in their classes just like dps can do. logs show gray all the way through orange parses for us as well. Andrew is correct other than healers needing to relearn their class because Cata completely flipped us upside down on our heads "specifically HPals" with that said there are hundreds of guides out here that specifically tell you how to find your BiS gear and what stats you are looking to reforge into what, and also what consumes and enchants, etc... to be using. most of the issues people are experiencing in raids as far as wiping is not the healers fault it stims from people going into them blind aka never seeing them before and not preparing for them before hand and also poor job from whomever is raid leading.. assignments need to go out before raid starts and call outs need to happen in real time each fight, every pull. point blank period. even if the entire raid knows the fights and are the same guildies that have been running them for weeks on end
If your raid leader is using healing assigns, you are in a top 10% of guilds

I really don’t think prot war or pally are any worse than blood they just need better heals.

He's specifically talking about Heroics and early weeks progression. If you aren't atleast doing half of the things in this video and you're progressing Heroic then you're letting your team down. If you just want to spam normals until everyone is average 359 and then maybe push for 6/13 by the end of the phase then do as you please, but what you're saying is what somebody who is bad would say not gonna lie.
it's the only way to progress in the heroics unfortunately, i don't like it myself. i preferred the game without any of this
exactly spicy, it's not my preferred way to play the game but these are things the top guilds have done the entire time. and even average guilds know to sim and optimize their dps. it just isn't considered for healers until the highest possible level
@@spicy6892 i personally dont know if im good or not; I dont really measure my "ability" to play, I just play. Im not in a guild either, so i typically just join raids when theyre advertised. I dont reach beyond my ability and seem to do fine when raiding so i assume im "good." I just dont like like the delivery i suppose. Its not always the healers fault and this video implies that it usually is. I know if you wanna push heroics, you gotta get sweaty; It just kinda sucks that these things are required. I dont want a second job playing wow just to grind up enough to be accepted to play when im already doing well enough.
