Knowing Volkswagen, I'm sure the system is only active when the car isn't in traffic - for instance only when the ignition is off. :) They don't just "tack" features on their cars, they actually make sure they work properly - that's the great thing about a Volkswagen versus other cars that might have more equipment at a lower cost, but often I find it doesn't work as well. :)
@britishcarfan No! Firstly it will auto-lock after 30secs or so if you forget to. Secondly, it has a smart key which must be detected to open to trunk. So you'd gotta be already standing right there with the key in your pocket when your cat passes for it to open.
You said its nice inside and well put together which is true, you then say a Vauxhall Insignia is more up market... yh right, lost faith in you and I actually like the seats my self
hey guys i don't know what to do... i'm thinking about buying this passat cauz it's nice but with the same money i can buy the bmw 3 coupe used, which is more sporty.... what do you reckon? a new 2012 passat or a used bmw 3 coupe?
Love your reviews mate!! very casual critique!! I enjoy watching em!! Love this car just the fact that you can open the boot with your foot.hilarious but ingenious!!
Love it VW make the best cars that is why they are No 1 car maker in the world we had this car its beautiful no one makes car like the Germans they make quality cars.
The boot opens automatically ok but following this logic everyone can open the boot should the car be opened by the key if you want to open the bood automatically?
Tail lights look like a Buick Lucerne, a car that has been in production for a while, is sold mainly to retired people and which is about to be discontinued.
Interesting... He says it's a boring car. In the US, however, it won a contest of mid-size sedans for being the most fun! I REALLY don't want to know more about Passats competitors in the US, then... if I well recall, they were Ford Fusion, GM Malibu, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.
That automatic boot release.. what if you're in traffic and someone or something happens to trigger that boot release.. you're going to have to get out and close it.. I can imagine that system being a pain
Why is it different from the one shown at VW website? I've saw a few first releases and the car looked different, with LED on the front and back lights, for example. the interior seems a little different too. This one looks more like the jetta.
boot release to the ignition? so if the ignition is off, then it will open?? What if the car is parked then and something trips the boot open.. All honesty now.. im sure it only opens the boot if it senses the smart-key fob in the user's pocket..
its Volvic and its a french water named after a place in france called Volvic, just like Evian for example and i dont know what is your nationality but im pretty sure there is some evian or volvic sold there considering they are the most imported worldwide
@britishcarfan Is there a possibility that the passat engineers dont think this situation? If a car feels that driver is fall asleep while driving. That car also can feel there is a cat under the bumper, not a humanbeing
@MatWatsonCarbuyer Thanks man, Cant wait :D Aparently, its ment to be more good looking in person. I personally think the front is stunning, stands out, especially from the old focus.
they royally screwed up with the seats - i mean i drive the b6 and why would they make the new ones worse? doesnt make any sense... well good for me then.
I have VW Passat B7 with 1.6 TDi engine as a company car. It has so low built quality its absurd! After 10 000kms it started to rattle somewhere in the dash, and its killing me! After 30 000kms, steering started to make some sort of clicking noise! Its falling apart!
@@mrg-ghx8052 same problems with my 2013. Had it for 6 months and had to claim over £3,000 on warranty (half cost of car). Drives like a cattle wagon on the motorway too
@vrs2011man if skoda has some adventages over passat it certainly doesn't mean that 'passat is nowhere near' especially about the looks which is on passat's side
vauxhall insignia may look good on the inside but fit isn't good down wards ans plastics are also hard. Overall it is a bit better than the passat though and doesn't bore you...
@MatWatsonCarbuyer Thanks man, it helped a lot. I thought that was the top version. It's just that sometimes I see the brands sell different cars with same names, in different countries. I saw the one shown at the Detroit motor show, which was just like the one you presented, and assumed VW as selling a different car as the Passat (an upscale version of the Jetta) in the American market, since Americans like different cars from the Europeans. So I got a little confused when I saw that in the UK.
so for you its genius to connect the boot release to the ignition? don't you have imagination? there are at least 3 different possibilities for this problem. lets see if you can think of another one.
I own a 2007 model Passat. It's a diesel 170, goes like the proverbial brown stuff off (not off of) a shovel. I bought it because it was a reliable VW and it looked good. The new one no longer looks good and it's made in America. The new model now fails on both criteria.
Keep in mind people, the European Passat isn't the same as the Americanize version. Sure looks wise but like he said its really the last version but just "updated." The American Passat from my understanding is a new platform and of course cheapen' out. :(
The adjustment in the driving position is superb - and the main reason I drive a Passat (I'm 6'6").
Doesn't matter this is the perfect car for families
The Volkswagen Passat is also the 9th best selling car in the world!
K_Q_ J_H hate Volkswagen I love IT so you hate IT why you watch this video you can hurt Volkswagen Lovers
The people I know who drive the Volkswagen Passat don't seem to have any complaints about it.
eternalhalloween1 I’ve had one of these apart from being abit boring around the bends I love it
@@Birmingham_racing boring around bends? Wym?
Billy Moses no feel and not much fun around the bends
@@Birmingham_racing oh I see. For racing yh?
Billy Moses wouldn't say racing I mean for country roads
I bought my car months ago but i simply cannot stop watching these videos
Mat.. you are so young here :D
I like this guy a lot, and I love these reviewes! They are decent!
This is a really excellent video, I'm expecting more other reviews from carbuyer.
One of the first times i've not seen them with the top trim level and all the options quipped.
Bought this car 2 months ago an loving it. Great car everything works well and easy to use. great fuel economy and plenty of poke from the 2.0 tdi
Censoredadmin any problems with this car in this 5 years? Because i will buy this car can you tell the reliability
Volkswagen just makes the best cars, period
love your reviews from morocco !!

Come on guys where is the review for the new Passat, it's been out for more than half an year.
Let's not forget the clout behind the VW group they own Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini, Porsche, Bugatti, Ducati.
The Passat is a very nice and very stylishly beautiful looking car!!!🥰😍
I agree. My friend has and Audi A4 and he hates it so much he is getting the VW CC.
I have one of these Passats and I love it.
@britishcarfan No! Firstly it will auto-lock after 30secs or so if you forget to. Secondly, it has a smart key which must be detected to open to trunk. So you'd gotta be already standing right there with the key in your pocket when your cat passes for it to open.
The MK.1 (1973-1980) Passat came as a hatchback! So there was a hatchback in the Passat 'life.'
why did the uk version gets all these features like hands free trunk and stop start, US wouldn’t get all this stuff for another 6 years
@britishcarfan yes. if your cat jumps to the left and right several times. the trunk will open.
You said its nice inside and well put together which is true, you then say a Vauxhall Insignia is more up market... yh right, lost faith in you and I actually like the seats my self

The b7 in Russia looks better because it has the bi xenon option with LED lights as well

Could ever make me out to be
And it makes me want to scream…
does anyone knows where this passat is produced.i like it a lot,as much as i like superb 2.please someone tell me where this car is made.
why does it have the transmission tunnel...it should be front traction?am i right?
My country one does not come with auto folding mirrors, is this apply to all countries?
The boot opens automatically ok but following this logic everyone can open the boot should the car be opened by the key if you want to open the bood automatically?
Looking forward to see review for new model 2015 soon. Cheers!!
Just bought mine today 2018 .... best car ive ever drove ..... how did you loose the war ?
Germans

The new VW Passat looks exellent in White.

This car was chosen for the America's " 2012 Car of the year "
A system that warns you before you fall asleep? So that's the reason why it beeps when I get inside the car?

Great Review as always!
Which one of the current Volkswagen sedans is the one being criticized for carrying springs on the boot lid hinges?
Why is there a transmission tunnel when it's FWD?
David Xue its 4wd

Y did they put the steering wheel on the wrong side?
i like the passat, looks good, comfortable, and isn't a guel guzzler
I thumb up every video with Matt in it.
Why is there such a huge transmission tunnel when it's a fwd? Weird..
I have a question: which one is better, the Passat or the Skoda Superb? My question is related to the overall feeling and the quality of ride?
@Dosalt The American version is different, it's a special version for the American market.
2012 motortrend car of the year here in the states. :0
Hi I’m planning to buy a Passat 2010 diesel just want to know if it’s good or bad car please thanks
Good car, reliable and efficient!
In all those reviews only BMW and Ford Mondeo or Focus are said to be fan o drive. That's weird...
why is the rear lights different from NAmericas version?

I hope your able to do a review of the new 2011 focus when its released next month :D I've been thinking of getting one.
Yeah hopefully they review it

In australia here, its almost as expensive as a 3-series and C-class, unbelievable.
how much is the standard model ?
Great car!... it seems simple and noble. Simplicity means QUALITY!...
@britishcarfan
I think the key fob must also be close by i.e. in driver pocket?

well smart key nearby and ignition off. that would work.

Why does he calls it a transmission tunnel? Isn´t this a FWD car?
