    Coming from a car with weak headlights, the LEDs on the premium feel like being in a stadium. One nice thing, when driving at night, is you can turn off the giant iPad and the physical controls still work and it will briefly show the climate stuff or whatever if you hit the buttons.
    I love mine so far (about a week and a half of ownership) but your videos still give me BRZ envy. Especially on those 16's, damn.

      I just got my base model 2022 WRX and I have been loving it! One thing I want to say is that the LEDs come on all packages, which was a nice surprise to me. I thought the base model didn't have the LED headlights as well but I was wrong :) I've only had my WRX for a few days and I custom ordered it so still under 100 miles. Still going to be in the break in period for a while. I've been absolutely loving it, it's such a great car and Subaru has impressed me. The 2022 feels extremely refined you and you can tell. I came from a B8.5 Audi S4 so I was a little worried I wouldn't like it losing some luxury and speed but boy was I wrong.

    I test drove one of these in manual this summer without a sales rep in the car with me. I drove it like a complete jerk and came nowhere near the limits. I took tight on ramps at 55-60mph with total confidence and no tire squeal. 50mph to 80mph pulls in 3rd gear on the highway were lightning fast. The bigger displacement and smaller turbo were very noticeable compared to an EJ and the last gen FA20. There's 180hp NA motor torque available right away, and then after a couple of seconds you feel it double as the boost kicks in, so very usable in suburban traffic. The steering was feelingless BUT since I'm never going to reach it's limits, it's not such a big deal. I agree with the Topher that the dual pinion rack is very quick and direct. It's Audi S5 levels of precise! Also I concur the lack of rev hang and great throttle mapping make it a very fun and satisfying manual shifting experience!

      We had our first dusting of snow yesterday, maybe 1/4 inch on the road, and everyone was sliding around and doing 10mph on the twisty backroads. Guy in front of me let me pass, and even with aids full off I could not get it to do anything. I mean, I'm sure I could toss it into the guardrail if I wanted, but driving excessively fast on A/S 4's it wouldn't slide or lock the brakes. The traction is almost worrisome, to be honest.

    • @chillphung8327
      @chillphung8327 Год назад +8

      @@KingSebun I'd get the WRX as I don't visit the track. AWD lays power much better at stoplights and stop signs. WRX is also much cheaper to own and run. The CTR's Brembo brake pads and rotors are 3-4x the cost of base WRX brakes, and 265 PS4S tires are pricey. I also like the all weather confidence of Subaru symmetrical AWD in the snow and rain. Front wheel drive understeer drifts in the wet are the worst, lol.

He even drove it up a curb onto a grassy field and I swear I never saw a single wheel slip, haha.

Now I'm not experienced in driving a lot of the faster cars out there, but for me that second gear was NUTTY! Even just cruising around busy streets at 35mph, it was really enjoyable to drive and felt really good.. So I put a down payment on the black premium, should be here within a day or two.

    Long distance highway driving: 28 mph if you stay within speed limit tolerance and never use the brakes.
    Small towns and 55mph rural roads: a hair below 25mpg (sedated driving)
    Spirited driving in canyon/mountain roads: 14mpg

    • @zetqt
      @zetqt Год назад +1

      So basically it’s all about timing when shifting, clutching all the way in is 100% needed to engage and disengage the flywheel. Depending on what situation your in for example one a stop sign you would downshift usually 1st gear (if your able to see cars and if it’s clear if not neutral). Traffic lights is different wanna hit into neutral so you don’t cause strain onto your engine. But the WRX’s have fantastic short throws for decently fast shifting. Hopefully this answered your question!

      @felixd7871 Год назад

      I could not agree more, the GR will be so much harder to attain and much pricier due to the fact they not planning to make much yearly. Even the core with the performance pack comes close to 40k, this WRX premium is going for easily 32-33 like Topher said, that’s a 7k savings and u can paint those body claddings, change the wheels and tires, tints and maybe some other mods lol.
      I have a 19 Camry after this I definitely want an upgrade, with good power, AWD, and affordable hopefully at MSRP or under. I’ve even seen some WRX Limited for 36k which is probably what I would go for since the seats get nicer by the trim. There’s lots to like about this car, and most reviews have been positive about it, I just want to wait a couple years until the refresh and they let them work out some kinks and issues.

    Otherwise it was a great drive. Very smooth. Shifting and rev matching was much smoother than my 23 BRZ (need to try the pedal commander). I felt like 1st and 2nd were more usable than the BRZ as well, where I usually feel like I gotta get to 3rd before I can really put down power.

I had a rental Civic sport a few weeks back and was shocked to find I couldn’t lock the doors with the car running while I ran into a store. I don’t always want to turn the car off especially if it’s still running/warming up.

    • @neometalx9

      I got a Honda and a Subaru, both can't do what you want...
      On the Subaru tho, it's a stop start button instead of the key, but you can do this when you are inside the car turned on...
      Lock the doors with the central locking button.
      Open manually on driver side and get out, lock manually and then close the door, then all the doors will be locked. To open, don't use the central locking unlocking button, use the one next to the door or it won't work.
      Take the emergency key out of the key fob to unlock the door by inserting it in the key hole, driver's side, assuming you got one, mine does... If you don't have one just forget all the steps, it's impossible I think.

    Didn't expect so many superlatives out of this WRX, and find it surprising to hear the car is so much fun to drive. I for one actually like the way car looks and thinking it might potentially be my next daily. Does it have LSD like the GR Corolla?

    • @caimano55

      Aside from the central LSD for the symmetrical AWD, it does not have individual axels LSDs. It was something that initially concerned me a bit as well. But after driving it, you will be hard pressed to notice their absence (at least on the road). The car is very balanced and has never any issues putting the power down.

      The torque/power is fine. 0 to losing your license in 5 seconds instead of 3 is not the deal breaker everyone makes it out to be, and this (and the BRZ) are more about the handling and insane amounts of grip than street racing. If you want to launch the hell out of a car, get something with obscene power and RWD like a Camaro. This thing has no boost in 1st gear and AWD, it's not going to light your hair on fire until you get moving. It will try to tear you out of the seat on twisty stuff though.
