Pretty crazy that tuning for these cars was unlocked just 5 months ago. We’re still in the early days and already knocking on 500hp with stock turbo, internals, heads, and fuel system. Once the STI trans swap is normalized and we get into built motor, big turbo, full e85 builds, this generation is going to be the bananas. I’ve heard some of the big names in Evo X tuning have picked up VB development cars now, so the future is looking bright!
@@wyattllc they share the same general design (displacement, bore and stroke) but otherwise they don’t share any components. They have different pistons, rods, crank, heads, fueling system, intake manifold, etc. The FA24D in the GR86/BRZ2 has a 12.5:1 compression ratio and smaller injectors in the DI side so it’s definitely not set up to handle high boost at all from the factory. Right now HKS offers a small supercharger kit that brings it up to 292hp at the crank, so like 40 additional horsepower at the wheels. That’s a pretty small bump for the $5000 that kit costs. Seems like pistons, rods, and fuel system upgrades are definitely going to be necessary to get up above 300-350whp.

I cant echo this enough. Not only is the sti 6 speed infinitely more robust, it also feels significantly better even stock, than a wrx split case with bushings mounts etc. Best thing you can do for a VA, and likewise a VB imo.

Is there any reason to believe the stock fuel systems are e85 compatible? I cant imagine it is. Seems pretty risky to simply dump a bunch of e85 in a car without knowing whether the fuel pump, lines, injectors are going to fail creating a ticking time bomb.
So basically just buy a tuner load a canned 91/93 tune and enjoy the roughly 300 whp reliable wrx is what im hearing. Already have a blown mustang just looking for a little more pep on the daily
So, new to Subie, with this motor if I just purchase a Cobb AP and do a 93 tune I will be around 300hp? What is the risks here? Shouldn’t the car be fine at just a tune?
Okay, I HATED the look of this car when it came out but seeing it's matured and can look halfway decent, I'm seriously considering getting a 2023 or 2024 VB with the solid engine. I just won't look at the back as much until I add some body kit 😂 But it's crazy how much power can be added safely without spending thousands like the older generations. And my POS 2013 that blew the engine twice.
Thanks for this awesome video! If I get protuned for E85 will I be able to use 93 octane in a pinch if I'm driving the car cross country or something and don't know where my trusty fillup spots are? Is the sacrifice only for performance/efficiency? Or would it be totally unsafe for the car to go back to 93? Or would it not work at all?
If you have a tune for ethanol only (non flex) then you absolutely NEED to use that exact blend. Whether it be e30. E60 e85 etc. If you have a flex tune it doesn't matter. Just like if you have a 93 tune, you gotta use 93 gasoline. 93 gasoline has about 10% ethanol in it as is and those values could be a bit higher but not a lot. Ethanol requires more fuel to be dumped into the engine so if you did straight 93 on a specific e85 tune you would be silly rich and knock like hell from the much lower octane. Ethanol also has a cooling effect that your tuner would of taken advantage of in the tune. Take that out of the equation also and your engine is in very risky territory. Subaru engines are very picky about the modifications and tunes they get. Do a ton of research prior to modify your wrx please. This is why the platform gets such a bad rep. Im not saying you're the cause just saying don't be a statistic 🙌
@@ericlinn8647 not really. I’m just talking about this FA24 specifically. I know some other stock motors that can handle 400whp-550whp all day. And then I know some that can’t even reach 400whp without bending a rod or something.
I know this video is about building horsepower... but what grill is on that car?? It looks way better than stock. Just tell me it adds 1 horsepower and I'm sold
Previous gens seem rather weak and with that, I am curious what the max sustainable and reliable power these engines can hold for a long period of time.
Does anyone have experience with the impact of performance mods like that and car insurance? I heard some insurers won't cover vehicles with performance mods. Is the best strategy here to keep it under wraps and play dumb?
Bought myself an ETS j-pipe but most turne shop tells me to skip it because of coding issues, check engine light etc. Is there any way around it? Or am I stuck with this?
I’m just curious to see how long they’ll last making that much power. I mean I love a fast car but if it only lasts a couple years I’ll just build a LS lol.
I bought my 2022 wrx not too long ago and I want to mod it. I am hesitant to though. This is the first time I have owned a wrx and the main issue I have with it is reliability of the mods as anything will void my warranty. Anyone have some words to ease my mind about it?
I'm waiting until the warranty is up and I'm not planning to go beyond 300hp. Go talk to your dealer and ask them how many short blocks they are changing out on modified WRXs.
I don’t know shit about cars but just got my 24 wrx…. I was looking into the Mishimoto website and they have a package that has an intake and front mount intercooler…. Again I don’t know anything but I’m planning to add it to my fully stock vb can I do this? And I have no clue what a tune is. Can you guys help a brother out 😅
I just bought a 2024 WRX with a CVT because I didn’t want a car my wife couldn’t drive. Are there any mods I could do to increase the horsepower without risking damage to the transmission?
@@colew2178 it all depends on your build and future plans. If you know you'll be going past bolt ons later it's ok to spend the money on a FMIC now. If you're just doing some mild tuning with 1-2 extra options (Intake or jpipe) then a TMIC will be sufficient. Both are great options and a FMIC really gives your car that tuner look.
Does anyone know if you would need a tune for reliability if I were to install the ETS TMIC, or would it be safe to keep it on the stock tune? I understand you would get more performance benefits from a tune, just wondering if I can hold off on the tune will I'm waiting to get other internals before tuning the parts all together.
The only difference that I'm certain of is the transmission. You should be able to use all the same mods for the "Subaru Performance Transmission" aka CVT. I'd be more worried and interested in seeing how much power the thing holds. I can see a future of the CVT holding really high power numbers only if built correctly. We used to say that automatics couldn't hold the power and now look at some of the fastest cars on the track. Anyways, you shouldn't have any issue in modifying with these parts, should be all the same.
I would be leery of doing power mods with the CVT. Maybe wait until there is more data on this. I wouldn't go beyond 300hp. If I had the CVT I would keep it stock.
Great content but as far as ive researched the motor will be the last to go. Unless you choose to go with an aggressive tune. This motor mechanically can handle more abuse than past generations.
So im thinking of leasing a wrx because i Know that if i buy it ill want to modify it and waste my money on excessive mods i dont need. Is it ok (warranty wise) to lease and just have a tune on it? I Know @heavymetalwrx Said in one of his videos the jb4 was ok on the warranty but is it still ok while leasing?
My man, I'm in the same position and just leased a new 2023 wrx premium a few days ago. They told me not to mess with the ECU and just have a couple of bolt ons would be okay. So I decided the Perrin CAI and AeroFlow Catback exhaust. Also, down the line, you can obviously decide if you would like to stay with the car or not but I probably will lol The car is fun to drive and, more importantly, wanted something reliable and doesn't void the lease warranty agreement.
@@ColFighter018 Nice ! Good for you ! The dealer told you not to mess with the ECU or someone else ? So your gonna buy it after the lease term, then i guess there’s no further issue to have. Just wondering with your add ons such as air intake , don’t you need a tune after that ? I mean since you say they don’t want you to touch the ecu if you ever get a problem from having intake and such without tune will they be more inclined to keep the warranty because you didn’t tune or the opposite since you didn’t tune after add ons . Haha so many questions in this regard anyway hope it stays reliable and enjoyable !!! I’ve delayed my purchase to next summer to see how my mortgage is impacted by interests rate but here car prices and interest are going nuts so not sure it was that good of an idea to wait haha

Nice job
Seems to me the first mod would be removing or disabling the always ON even if unsubscribed Starlink / GPS tracker data snooper.
Can you explain how to increase a HP on Subaru Outback 2005 with automatic transmission
You think I could some of these on a 2022+ outback xt. Ofc watching the cvt but at least the tune
The real question is how well can that motor hold at 400whp+ ? I feel like it’s not a matter of if it’s gonna happen, but when it’s gonna happen.
Isn't that really the outcome with any car..not if, but when
@@ericlinn8647 not really. I’m just talking about this FA24 specifically. I know some other stock motors that can handle 400whp-550whp all day. And then I know some that can’t even reach 400whp without bending a rod or something.
as an employee at subaru i can tell
you that these motors are most likely one of the most durable ones they ever built
I know this video is about building horsepower... but what grill is on that car?? It looks way better than stock. Just tell me it adds 1 horsepower and I'm sold
Which of these will void the factory warranty?
I have been making 415whp on E50 for about a year. Turbo is all out of steam but trying a new catback to see if we can’t make 430+whp
Is that on stock transmission?
@@thumper3904 Not anymore, lol. Trans let go. STI swapping the trans now.
3:35 how do u make it have that sexy turbo noise?
Previous gens seem rather weak and with that, I am curious what the max sustainable and reliable power these engines can hold for a long period of time.
Please change to colder spark plugs before doing any tune or piggyback
Any idea on what the safest torque is for the cvts? Been trying to figure it out for a while now
So a Cobb accessport won't be able to run a custom tune on your car if you have any mods like an air intake....you would need a pro tune?
Does anyone have experience with the impact of performance mods like that and car insurance? I heard some insurers won't cover vehicles with performance mods. Is the best strategy here to keep it under wraps and play dumb?
Bought myself an ETS j-pipe but most turne shop tells me to skip it because of coding issues, check engine light etc. Is there any way around it? Or am I stuck with this?
I’m just curious to see how long they’ll last making that much power. I mean I love a fast car but if it only lasts a couple years I’ll just build a LS lol.
All you need is one mod: e85 amd tune. Nothing else. Well.. maybe a new clutch too. 400hp at the wheels. Easy.
Will the stock motor hold at 400+HP?
I don’t know shit about cars but just got my 24 wrx…. I was looking into the Mishimoto website and they have a package that has an intake and front mount intercooler…. Again I don’t know anything but I’m planning to add it to my fully stock vb can I do this? And I have no clue what a tune is. Can you guys help a brother out 😅
I just bought a 2024 WRX with a CVT because I didn’t want a car my wife couldn’t drive. Are there any mods I could do to increase the horsepower without risking damage to the transmission?
The CVT is limited compared to the manual but I've seen 320 hp on a CVT. That's not a lot though.
@ cool thank you!
you can put a ets top mount and front mount both on right
You can only put on one intercooler at a time.
Got to pick one or the other!
@@HeavyMetalWRX what the better route, front mount I assume
@@colew2178 it all depends on your build and future plans. If you know you'll be going past bolt ons later it's ok to spend the money on a FMIC now. If you're just doing some mild tuning with 1-2 extra options (Intake or jpipe) then a TMIC will be sufficient. Both are great options and a FMIC really gives your car that tuner look.
My va wrx has fbo with pro tune to only make 320 wheel hp, crazy how you make 350 with just an intake
When is Cobb going to make a runner for the 22 Wrx gt
Are these to the wheels or crank?
I been seeing vids that the ets intake and Cobb tune could blow the motor?
U need a pro tune when installing a intake
Just bought a black 2024 wrx sport tech. I have warranty tho for 7 years or 100,000kms. :(
Does anyone know if you would need a tune for reliability if I were to install the ETS TMIC, or would it be safe to keep it on the stock tune? I understand you would get more performance benefits from a tune, just wondering if I can hold off on the tune will I'm waiting to get other internals before tuning the parts all together.
How does this affect reliability?
I ahve 2023 wrx. I'm tempted to mod it
4:54 🤣🤣 gotta do what you gotta do to keep the EPA away
ETS intake
Cobb AP
Ethanol protune
that's all you need folks
I think we all know how reliable Suby motors actually are, once you start modifying them.
So with just the catback, specifically the Remark R1, is a tune still needed or is it good without one??
No, you don't need a tune for a catback
But you probably won't get any extra HP without a tune@@Jgambina91
Takes a lot of work to get to 400+, but 350whp with bolt ons is not bad. My 2015 wrx pushes 305 whp right now.
Do you recommend the Aem intake? Are you still doing the install video?
The AEM intake is a great choice, it is okay to run on stock tune but you will want to get a pro tune to get the most performance from it!
Nice one
Is launch control available now?
Does cobb AP have 92 OCT tune?
That transmission won't last pushing 450whp. It's not a STI 6 speed so it's not anywhere near as durable.
That’s why you swap a STI transmission 😮
@EGOBreaker50 eh that's a lot of money and honestly in my opinion not worth it. Better cars to pick over the wrx.
It is a 6 speed tho?
@@brandansass897 yep it is a 6 speed but the wrx and sti 6 speed are not the same
In one of the clips I definitely heard a BOV. I miss mine from my Focus ST, what brand/model can I get for this that won't mess up the boost?
I see a lot of people running Boomba. They were known to leak in the previous generation, just a heads up
that was just a waste gate/intake noise from the turbo, running a BOV on a MAF car is really really stupid unless you go speed density.
It's from the aftermarket intake
I’m planning on getting the 2023 WRX CVT , will all these mods fit into that car ?
Wow I came across your video . I want to get 2023 wrx and mod it to 350 hp. Can you show that
cars engine isnt going to change in 23 lol just watch the video
Great content but as far as ive researched the motor will be the last to go. Unless you choose to go with an aggressive tune. This motor mechanically can handle more abuse than past generations.
STi Mikey has a VB making 645whp and 540wtq
Jb4 tunes cvt? Cause ik cobb probably wont do it for the 22 anytime soon
what about for those of us that prefer the SPT? how much power can it handle? theres too much traffic in my area to enjoy a manual.
Excuses. I live i Chicago near downtown and still drive a six speed 23 Ignition Red WRX.
I would definitely not go beyond the 300hp with the SPT. I would keep it stock to be on the safe side.
ETS intake
Cobb AP
MikeyTuned e50 sauce
400/450 guaranteed.
Does anyone know if the STI 6 speed can be used in this?
@kevinsavard2681 Someone in the dealership told me what I can't and can do more or less, but messing with the ECU would definitely void your warranty. I'm not sure yet if I'll buy it, but we'll see once the three years are up. I keep hearing from both sides with the Perrin CAI with tuning it or not, but I haven't because of keeping the warranty agreement. Tbh, life is short, so if you feel you can manage, then go for it! Take it easy bro
P&l chicago is the best tuner shop for subaru
