Appreciate the straight-forward facts about tuning and warranty, as well as Cobb's choice to comply with EPA standards to stay in business. I installed a Big SF intake and accessport 2 months into ownership of a new '21 limited. Catalytic converter took a dump at about 6k, and was denied warranty coverage due to the altered ECU code. I'm glad you confirmed reflashing to factory before bringing it to the dealer wouldn't have made any difference. Now the vin has been flagged by Subaru, so I doubt any dealer would be reimbursed by SOA if they submit a claim. I brought the car to Stage 2+ (all Cobb, + Nameless bpv) this summer, and it ran really well on the Cobb Stage 2+ map until I could get it in for dyno tune. The power/torque gains are impressive, but was so unimpressed with the factory headers that I went and ordered/installed a Grimmspeed equal length headers, and found the remnants of burned out cat fragments in the mid-pipe. Ordering a new cat in a few weeks, and then re-tune for that and the headers, which I'm told isn't necessary, but figure why not? Headers are what I'd be looking at next on your build path, maybe ETS, but not seeing a ton of options for the FA24 currently. The power/torque gains for my FA20 are almost as significant as the move to Stage 2, and doing both at the same time plus turbo blanket while it's all apart, probably not a bad idea depending on budget. I guess I understand Subaru's position on modding, but as you mention, anyone who drives a stock VA or VB, and then tries one at Stage 2 is going to see way more of the car's potential unlocked, and for me it's been worth the gamble on voiding the warranty (even with having to eat a $1700 replacement cat).

I was corresponding with a well know tuner a month or so ago about some moderate mods for my 2021. Also mentioned I was thinking about trading up to a 2023 and just doing basic OTS tune instead. He told me that the 2023 was the way to go as with even a basic tune it would make more power than my 2021 with extensive bolt ons.

People love to shit on Cobb and the OTS tunes, but I think when done right (e.g. when paired with the rest of the Cobb kit, stages, whatever you want to call them), these tunes are reliable, and Cobb has obviously optimized their tune to their parts. If you're mixing parts from Perrin, ETS, Cobb, etc. then you probably want to have a custom tune done, but I think for $2k, you can't really do a whole lot better than this. Love what you're doing with the build, man. Let us know how it goes with long-term reliability on the kit.

@@squirrelzar I've seen it and it's awesome. I'd prefer something other than an EJ, but at least it sounds like a Subaru. The biggest turn-off with the turbo'ed FA engines is the sound of the 4-1 EL headers. The 4-2-1 EL on my lowly FB20B at least retains some of that traditional Subaru rumble with a Nameless catback.
@@IllusionInfusion yeah I will say, that’s something I wish the VB had. That subie rumble is almost worth the losses - but not quite for me at least lol
@@squirrelzar The 4-2-1 EL headers are good for mid-range power. Honestly, unless you're putting your car on the track, it would probably sound decent and be very drivable to go with something like what the NA FB20 and FB25s have. I would love to see somebody take a FA24 and build 4-2-1 headers for it. I bet it would be the best of both worlds.
Lovely jubbly! Unfortunately we're very restricted here in Japan. COBB have no plans on making their AP work on JDM models. The JB4 will work but it can't remove the 112mph speed restrictor in the ECU. Which is all moot for me anyway as my car is the CVT model (the top-trim model here comes only in that version), so WHP/torque can't really go higher than 300 and even with that I'd be a bit nervous. Having said all that, more power here (given the types of road we have in abundance, cornering paradise) would be superfluous. I've optioned all the handling goodies and have a set of Rays on order too, I think it's all going to be a lot more fun than the Honda CRV I currently have. Maybe even as much fun as my KTM SDR Evo. :D
I've always wondered why they have not done anything for Japan in thr past. I know they cam be a bit strict over there but is it that restricted? Sounds like it should still be a fun set up! Ya'll get a ton of the OEM options I wish we got here!
@@Smeedia I did say to them that they're missing out on a big market but hey ho. I have a e tune, and 326whp with just ETS intake and exhaust. Shops said the stock intercooler is pretty legit. I am not thinking its worth the $900 to replace, for minimal, minimal, gains.
I mean I wouldn’t call it minimal a new intercooler and retune should put you at 350-360whp without even a really aggressive tune. The intercooler on my Sti was pretty large stock but when I changed my turbo inlet , top mount and retuned it made an additional 36 whp at the same boost psi.
@@SmeediaI just jumped off the dyno after an E40 tune. With just a Nameless catback and Perrin foam filter, I'm pushing 342whp 382wtq. So expect higher than that of course 😂 😂

Baby blu looking mean congrats man..Also thanks for the old ss brake line install vid you did on the brz. I watched this am and then sucessfully upgraded my lines on my wrx today with no issues ! Huge upgrade thanks for your help man trulyappreciate you
Great comment on the OTS tune. They're fine as LONG AS YOU USE EXACTLY WHAT IT TELLS YOU TO.
Is the corgi required for this build?
Found a local guy making content that’s great once I saw canyon rd,22nd and mountain highway lol
Subaru voided my warranty for rtv issue since I had a Cobb tune 😭…so I had to sell my car and get a grc 🥲…my last 2 cars were Rex’s…i had aos installed, fortune 500 coil overs, processwest intercooler, hawk brakes, Cobb intake and a protune from panda Motorworks…i felt really sad when I traded it…but I also feel happy that I got the grc.
Eventually trading in my tuned passat, I know laugh at me. Looking to get a 23 wrx limited and do this exact build up. Thanks for the vid and throwing you a follow!
These FA24s been pulling out some gooooood numbers 🔥
With a turboback and illegal for some states intake, e30 blend, this thing is a monster for a flat 4
This was the first video YT suggested to me of yours. Watched the install and as soon as you took it out driving, I was like, "Damn, that looks awfully like Washington." Scene cut, I notice it's Canyon you're flying up 🤣😂
Awesome, dude! I'm sure I'll see ya around the area! Would love to pick your brain about my car. Grown bored of my car after 5 years and was thinking about Cobb stages, which is why I'm assuming YT recommended me your channel.
Keep up the content, really enjoyed it!
Can’t find the corgi on the COBB website? Not impressed with false advertisement of this video saying we can “cut copy and paste”.
Simply surprising that you don’t have more subscribers - keep up the very good work!
As an Alabamian, I’m glad we don’t have to deal with omissions here!
Oh heck yeah! Your car is mint! My accessport, ets intake + dman ots tune is coming next week. Stoke. Will be getting an etune as well.
Lemme know how you like the set up once you get it all in!
Never hated the car, just did not like the rear end but I knew the FA24 had big potential when I saw Bader’s numbers.
I'm still not sold on the rear bumper so your not alone 😅
@@SmeediaI'll tell you this man, it can take a 20mph hit from a Lexus IS-F and still look just fine afterwards 😂
Guess that's one positive side to the bumper.
Our boy said it. He may break the internet🤯🤯🤯
I still won't forgive Subaru for killing off the WRX wagon. That drivetrain needs to be in my Impreza wagon chassis.
If they gave us a levorg I'd buy one in a heart beat
Go checkout Marty’s Levorg build from Mighty Car Mods if you haven’t already. Not an FA24 build - but it is effectively the modern wagon we all wanted
It's not like stuff gets impounded at customs, I got my ETS Extreme from the US and a flasher for my KTM from the UK (which also allowed me to remove the speed restriction, muha!). So yeah, sh!t can be done, it's just a PITA.
Panzerlang... I think ecutek does work on jdm ecu model...
But the cvt definately hates power and torque upgrades
Man, if I didn’t just buy a bike you’re really making me want a new wrx rn
Tbh, bike sounds more fun 😅
@@Smeedia bike doesn’t have a turbo tho
Excellent quality video Tanner. A lot of good information here. Much appreciated.

Sick AF paint those flairs and rear bumper!!!
Flares show up next week 🙌
@@Smeedia 🥰
Great video dude, making these cars even more appealing than they already were for me. The biggest concern for me was I always heard Subarus were a pain to work on compared to my 92 Accord so seeing this is helpful. Deciding between this and a 2022 Civic Si for my next car so I can do a new motor on the Accord
That’s me weekend driver! 🤙
Yessssssir 🥳🥳
You sold me on the stage 2 from Cobb for my white VB! Great video!
What type performance gains did you get from the stage II kit
Good stuff buddy the car is looking great.
Thank you 🥳 😊
I’m planning on getting a 2023 wrx in Nov once I get my quarterly bonus, but watching your videos I want to just go to my dealership now and pick one up. 😂 Great content as always!
Appreciate it 🥳 what trim spec are you looking at getting?!
Tanner can you go over your thoughts on the WRX GT? Mods, suspension? For those of us with injuries who cant drive manual anymore. Thanks in advance
I know most of the chatter is about stage 2, but l’ll vouch for the stage 1 as well (AP tune + Cobb filter). I’ve been running my ‘23 for about a week and the difference is night and day. It’s a completely different car. I can’t imagine what the stage 2 is like.
CongratS. You finally cracked it.
Make sure the shroud rubber touching the intercooler is facing outward when you close the hood
I need to hit it with a torch and form it a bit 😅
@@Smeedia might be a good idea to hit the shroud bolts with some blue loctite. Ask me why. 😅
@@xil3ntkha0s they fall out?! 😅
@@Smeedia one of mine did. It's got some loctite on it now lol
I have a e tune, and 326whp with just ETS intake and exhaust. Shops said the stock intercooler is pretty legit. I am not thinking its worth the $900 to replace, for minimal, minimal, gains.
The factory intercooler is MASSIVE for a stock one, dosent surprise me 🔥
I mean I wouldn’t call it minimal a new intercooler and retune should put you at 350-360whp without even a really aggressive tune. The intercooler on my Sti was pretty large stock but when I changed my turbo inlet , top mount and retuned it made an additional 36 whp at the same boost psi.
Hell yea love the content tanner keep it up man
Always appreciate the support 🫶🫶🫶
There’s a new WRX for sale locally. Very tempting. Gray color
Go test drive it 👀
All you need is a secondary ECU that you do your tunes on.
Careful running down Canyon like that, there's some crazy drivers on that road. Any local places to get good coilovers?
Not local that I know of, normally just order everything online 👌
my dealer swapped my short block under warranty with a access port but i was upfront about it and it was clearly oil starved by the previous owner.
Wondering how the gas mileage is affected..
Waiting for you to figure out the turn signals. Gonna order me some. Need tutorial. 😂
Got you 😅👌
Can't wait for e85 with this thing!
Dude I'm so pumped to see what it does on E, thing feels drastically better already!
@@SmeediaI just jumped off the dyno after an E40 tune. With just a Nameless catback and Perrin foam filter, I'm pushing 342whp 382wtq.
So expect higher than that of course 😂 😂
Motec is money. That’s Tony Palo T1 money. Happy Cobb is back to normal.
Big facts, motec ain't cheap 😅
Yes that happend to me I own a 2018 sti n all I had was an access port n an intake n my engine blew
Yeah you can do all of these mods if you don’t mind losing your warranty. With this being my daily driver I don’t have that option. Either way very cool!😎
i swear these cars have grown on me... but i still cant get passed the cladding. paint matched cladding and rear bumper and these cars would be perfect
beats slappin throughout the video
Great vid. I miss sunny days there 😢
The sunny days are super nice 👌
Heck the video that I been waiting for
🙌🙌🙌🙌
I daily a 19 sti and my buddy has a new wrx and I must say looks wise it’s grown the only thing I don’t like is how the clutch feels but I know that can be changed
I don't have a factory sti clutch to use as reference so now I'm curious about the difference of feel between em 😅
@@Smeediamy other good friend has a evo x and said the same about the clutch
@@Smeediait’s lighter in the VB kinda like a feather vs my VA.
Great video and content. Enjoyed it. And yes, I did my homework gave it a thumbs up and hit the subscribe. If this kit was warranty safe would buy it tomorrow. For now, it's on the to do list in 7 years or 70,000 when my warranty runs out LOL. Massive props to Cobb for developing the best out of the box kit/tune for the VB. They will get my business for sure.
Thank you so much for the video! This upgrade is very tempting! The engine is definitely very under stressed, my wife’s Ascent has more torque.
Do you think the transmission is going to handle well the extra torque?
When you were pulling, the engine seemed more smooth than stock. Does it really feel like that, or you just shift super smoothly?
Motec did actually just recently release an ecu for the VB WRX
I thought I saw something on that 🔥
Drunkmanns custom E-tune is fantastic
Were going to be headed to Josh's here soon for some dyno tuning 🙌
Great editing im so tempted to pick up the wrx soon!! How much whp do you think it gained? Thanks
Nice car .I still love my old subaru
Here in Aus, independent motorsport did a process west intake and intercooler =233rwkw
Bruuuuuh, literally just finished an 08 STI wagon build...now you git me wanting to go see the bank about a new Scooby 😅
Let's see if the transmission will stay in 1 piece
Thank you for the best treadmill videos 👌
🙏🙏🙏🙏
Hey before you get GT recaros, i heard they're only plug and play with the limited. The premium and base wont work with the airbag.
Good to know I'll look at the FSM and see how the wiring is on em
Got rod knock with Cobb tune on car, uninstalled my tune, towed to Subaru, dealer insurance covered 95% of my 14k$ rebuild
Subaru may hate people tuning their cars, but why did they make it so easy and fun to do?! I got +70 whp on mine. Makes the driving experience way more fun. Cobb makes good stuff
What was your modifications?
