Well in the EU, the mini-series sequel to Legacy shows an assassin droid that has become completely independent and surprisingly well mannered, instead of being a sarcastic jerk like HK from SWTOR.
I would love to see a droid uprising. We all know how poorly droids in general are treated in the Star Wars galaxy. Even before the Clone Wars there seemed to be a lot of prejudice towards droids even by supposed good guys like Obi Wan. But the Clone Wars scarred countless trillions of sapients across the galaxy and only strengthened their robopbobic rhetoric. Think about the many billions of people who lost their families to a battle droid. They may seem incompetent and silly to us the audience, but that’s only because we see them from the perspective of trained soldiers and space wizards. To the average Joe a battle droid would be a formidable opponent. It’s no wonder that Mos Eisley Cantina outright refuses service to droids. Maybe L3-37 was right all along.
In our RP-Server a user attacked a CIS world with an imperial fleet and got completely obliterated in the process. He underestimated the CIS, which had exploited it's full potential and is the most powerful fan tion in our RP. The attacker was a hardcore fan of the Empire and paid the price for it
@@gnarlax2005 The server doesn't fit into the timeline of Star Wars. You can roleplay independently or join a faction, which doesn't necessarily need to be a real faction. They can be completely made up, just as I did. So you had the CIS, which at that point is the largest and most powerful faction on the server, controlling over 14,5k warships and using their full potential. And you had an imperial faction, like a post-imperial warlord, that is not comparable in size and power, controlling about 7,2k ships (400 ships + 3 Supers per planet with a max of 40 Planets). So the user leading the Empire wanted to conquer a CIS planet thinking it would be easy, because they're just droids. But he completely underestimated the user from the CIS and overestimated his own tactical skills and was a bad loser. When he realised he was losing (his ships were trapped by an Interdictor behind the Separatists' lines), he stopped writing and only after weeks of discussion finally agreed that the CIS could destroy the fleet. Of course the CIS suffered some losses, but they were few and easily replenished. In-line you could say that the imperial officers panicked and lost their overview over the battle, which the Separatists used to destroy them.
As for the grenades, I believe, they were heavily underutilized by droids. Theoretically, with proper servos, they would be able to throw them at hundreds of meters, add a ballistic calculator and grenades would be flying into windows, trenches, around corners, into vehicles' weak spots and more. Also, shields are expensive and armor is cheap: imagine, instead of expensive droidekas, CIS could have even more armored B2s, carrying E-web blasters, with energy packs integrated into their backs. In general, the possibility of droids to have greater physical strength was rarely exploited: without power armor it is impossible to armor a human as well as a droid of similar size (with good servos). Same goes for the weapon: droids can carry much more. How about combining 3 E-5s together with the barrels in a triangular pattern, large common heatsink, battery and gas cartridge. Advantages: high rate of fire (when shooting sequentially) or really hard to deflect (by a lightsaber) pattern. Cons: too heavy to be used by average organic and older droid models.
I think even the design of most droids is fairly cliche and almost meant to be bad. Bipedal robots on our world are very rare and are unwieldy, unreliable, and unstable. There’s a reason why most drones are tracked or have four legs and it’s the exact same reason why tanks have treads and why mechs are impractical. Along with this, droids have intentionally bad personalities. Your average battle droid is incompetent, arrogant, and just plain stupid. Why would you ever want to program such personality characteristics into your soldiers? If you were being realistic you’d want to program personality characteristics you’d want in a soldier like resilience and unwavering loyalty.
@@therealspeedwagon1451 well, it depends, bipedal is not necessarily that bad, but you can do much better than humanoid. How about such design: 2-2.5m high droid with long bird like legs and small, heavily armored 0.5*0.5 meter box-body (basically a smaller autonomous version of AT-RT). No articulation in the body (besides rotation of the upper part). Two long arms with heavy auto blasters (from droidekas) built in and ability to throw grenades really far. With small, heavily armored body it would be extremely hard to kill, and with those long, complex legs it would be able to make 70+ km/h. Add a weapon stabilisation algorithms and it gonna be able to shoot on the move at 70km/h while being impervious to most hand-held weapons and to fast to be hit by the heavy ones.
@@therealspeedwagon1451 The personality was a side effect of the droids not being connected to a central computer. And yeah, all of those arguments may truth for robots on Earth so far. Bat Star Wars tech is far more advanced than what we have.

The sad part about the droid army was that, barring a few exceptions, every droid model acted the same way as any other droid of that model. If a person knew how to take out one droid of a model without a problem, that person could take out 99% of the same droids, in the same situation, without a problem. Even a small change to this, such as adding variable firing rates to their weapons would have been a game changer because would have made it a lot harder for Jedi to dodge or deflect their blaster fire.
