      They can always go back and re-watch the videos as needed, or they have a PDF of the lesson they can look over! They can also go back as far as needed since you have access to all grade levels.

    Okay so this may be an answer to my prayers with my 5th grader. Last year was our first year of homeschooling and I was a fish out of water. But realized by the end of the school year that my son is really great at math, however he has some pretty big gaps that need to be filled. I had to pause our math curriculum this year and have been searching for something for him while working in subtraction facts that stick and xtra math in the meantime. Thank you for this video!

      I'm glad it was helpful!! Yes, we definitely had to fill some gaps, that's why I love the option of the diagnostic tests CTCMath offers. It was very easy for me to see where we needed some extra work, and then simply assign those lessons. Hope you find some luck with the program!

    For a grandmother who is very challenged when it comes to using technology, especially computers. I'm also homeschooling my grandson. Someone recommended this math but watching you go through that it looks way too complicated just to get to a math lesson that is definitely not open and go. I guess I will have to stick with a workbook lol

      Not going to lie, it was definitely tricky to figure out at first!! It's easier now that I know my way around. But there is a learning curve.
      However, if you have a chance, please check out my latest video. They recently released an update which makes it MUCH easier to schedule classes: ruclips.net/video/wijECLbrXZc/видео.html

    Can you limit the number of questions or skip questions? I think this might be a helpful tool for my daughter, who is in 6th grade but has a few gaps. However, she has ADHD and gets really overwhelmed at a lot of question. She can really only handle a few at a time.

    • @blessedhomeschool
      @blessedhomeschool  11 месяцев назад +3

      Great question! I have found that the number of questions that are asked after each lesson are typically only around 10 or less. So there are not that many...as long as you get them right! And they tend to be pretty repetitive.
      However, if questions are missed, it will have you do more of them to make sure you understand the concept. When that happens with my kids and they start getting frustrated, I usually have them take a break, or sit with them and work through the problems with them to make sure they are doing ok.
      The good thing is you don't have to require "mastery", so if you want your kids to stop after the initial round of questions, they can. Unfortunately you can't limit or skip questions after a lesson otherwise, but, you could also do a few and come back to the rest later if you wanted!
      If you are using the "question bank" tool for reviewing specific concepts, you absolutely can limit the questions you have on these, but they aren't part of the original lessons.
      Hope this helps/makes sense!

    Great video - thank you for taking the time to go into such depth! Two questions: do you have to assign lessons or can they just progress through the grade? Do you typically give your child the diagnostic test before each unit and then just assign lessons based on results so they are not "bored" with things they already know? Thank you again and God bless!

    • @blessedhomeschool
      @blessedhomeschool  Год назад +3

      Thank you for watching! Yes, you can choose to either assign lessons or allow them to just progress through the grade.
      For me, I only used the diagnostic tests because we were coming from another curriculum and I wanted to make sure they didn't have any gaps. So, I assigned them and then had them review the lessons they needed a bit more work with. I would typically assign a few diagnostic tests at a time, then lessons, then diagnostics, then lessons again, etc. Eventually, we got to a point where they were pretty much failing each diagnostic test because they weren't familiar with the material. From there, I just assigned the lessons (no more diagnostics).
      It was at that point that I also began to assign the weekly revision sets CTCMath offers, so they are continually being given old problems to practice.
      Hope this helps!

    What confuses me is do you complete a whole grade or do you jump around based on the mastery? Next question, do you assign the tasks in a row?

    • @blessedhomeschool
      @blessedhomeschool  Год назад +2

      Great question! For us, now that we're established with CTCMath/have been using it for a while, I have my kids work through the grade levels. I personally like to assign tasks each week, and I do go in a row (and ask that my kids complete them in order!).
      So, each Friday (usually), I go in and create a new "task" for each of my kids for the upcoming week. I'll assign them new lessons to complete (and the number of lessons varies, honestly). If they end up completing the current grade level before the year is up, we'll just move on to the next one!
      Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!

      @@blessedhomeschool one more question, do you use their additional worksheets?

    • @blessedhomeschool
      @blessedhomeschool  Год назад +5

      Not going to lie, it was a bit confusing for me at first too...but I watched ALL the tutorials they have on their site, and that helped a LOT. And once I dug in it became easier. There is a ton of content, and it's great that it's broken down so well because you can really personalize things and target what your kids need to work on...but it's a lot lol.
      I'd recommend printing off the checklists they have available (under tools) to help you keep track of what you have assigned/worked on. I did this because it made sense for my brain to see it on paper. Just a tip!

    • @blessedhomeschool

    Do you feel that CTC is rigorous and complete? My kids will be coming from a private school where they used Saxon. I’m hoping to continue the rigor but perhaps make it less stressful and tedious.

    • @blessedhomeschool
      @blessedhomeschool  4 месяца назад

      Oh absolutely rigorous enough. Especially because if it’s too easy, they can progress more quickly since you have access to multiple levels.

    If they keep getting jt wrong, not understanding the math problem, how can they move forward? Wouldnt they be stuck on that question?

    • @blessedhomeschool
      @blessedhomeschool  11 месяцев назад +4

      Great question! If they get a question wrong, they will be given similar questions to try. If the student misses it because of a simple mistake (I've had to teach my kids to carefully type in or choose their answers!), they will hopefully get the next problem right. But if there's a lack of understanding, it's a good reason to go back and review the video or get help from someone.
      My kids have had questions that they are really stuck on, though, and in those cases, I sit with them to work out the problem, or they might go back and watch the video again because they have missed something.
      Finally, it will depend on your settings...you can set it so you require kids to achieve a passing score before moving on, OR, you can set it so that they at least need to attempt all of the questions before moving on. If they at least attempt all questions, it would then allow them to move on, but they might not truly grasp any questions they miss yet. Hope that makes sense!
