Great video! I wanted to add my thoughts. We have used TGTB for 2 years now, level K, and Level 1 and we will be using Level 2 this coming year. I don’t use this curriculum to teach my child the Bible. I use the Bible to teach the Bible. We also love The Answers books for kids by Ken Ham. I will say that there are plenty of references of the New Testament throughout TGTB curriculum, whether it’s LA or Handwriting. TGTB has worked very well for us and my daughter loves it! It is affordable and it is easy for me to teach! We have used BJU Press for Spelling and it is great! I love that they incorporate the Bible in their workbooks no matter what subject, however buying an entire grade level for our family on one income would be very hard! It is a solid company though and I never rule anything out! Thank you for insight!!
Thirty years ago I used Abeka. As I got futher along I did a lot of mixing of different things. We never did online anything. The best things we ever did was teaching typing, music lessons, team sports, and speech lessons.
Awesome and sooo helpful as ALWAYS, love it, cheers❤
So glad! Thanks for your encouragement!
BJU does cost for accreditation. Since they are not a physical school but more of a printing press, they go through a third party for accreditation.
We use the good and the beautiful for math, language arts and science and we love it. It is written by a Mormon, but she keeps it vague on purpose in the curriculum which I appreciate. I don't need my math and language arts curriculum to teach my kid theology! We have a separate curriculum for that where we can go in depth and I can teach them truth.
Thanks for commenting. God bless.
I appreciate you calling out TGATB.
I don't like to do it, but it's better to say it as it is. I appreciate your support friend :)
To dip my feet in for preschool, I think I'll be dabbling with G+C and TGTB. And then once I get a feel for how he likes to learn and how I prefer to teach, I'll be doing even more research. Lol BJU press does look nice. And especially for math, the video lessons could be great! Haha
I know...BJU is such a lifesaver - especially when I have particularly bad back days.
What do you think about Christian Light Education? I’m currently full Abeka, but looking at other options and I’ve heard a little about CLE. Not sure how it stacks up though!
I’m using Christian light for kindergarten and it is very simple, the subject aren’t really separated they’re combined into a single lesson being used together. I haven’t used it for any other grade levels and this is my first year but I like how it’s not hard to complete a lesson with a 5 year old boy who doesn’t want to sit still haha. I do find at least at first it could almost be used for a pre schooler. We’re several booklets in and my son already can count to 12 easily but this is very slowly and repeatedly introducing 1-10 so far. But if gentle, slow, and simple to teach us the goal with lots of simple activities and little stories with questions that have to do with God then I really do like that about it.
I want to hear about CLE too!
We love CLE for math and language arts
I think it's a good choice.
Great video!! Would you say that BJU helps with children who need to learn how to read? …Starting with their preschool curriculum
Yes. My 4 year old is about to start thier K4 and my 6 year old is almost completley reading with his Grade 1 curriculum. You don't need to do much to set them up. Super easy. Just make sure they do the work :)
@@howtohomeschool wonderful!!thank you dear 🥰 Good for him 👏🏼
Abeka also offers DVD options and you mention that you can use the BJU DVD’s over and over again. This is not quite true. When you choose the DVD option with BJU the DVD’s aren’t yours to keep. You are only renting the DVD’s and must be returned.
It is also worth noting that Abeka also allows you to not have to sit down and teach your children. The quality of the information taught is excellent.
Thank you so much for your comment. I didn't realize it was a rental situation. I'll definitely put that in my video. Really appreciate you catching that one and telling me. Someone else made the same comment. I'm actually a bit dissapointed you can't keep the DVDs. It seems strange. Can you keep them with Abeka? or is it a rental too?
Love your videos. Agree about TGTB, we are using it for LA and Math, but I got Abeka video lessons for Bible ❤
Hi Elena, great to hear from you again. Love having your comments to make me think again about stuff. Iron sharpens iron. God bless friend. I'm glad you've got Abeka for Bible :)
@howtohomeschool Haha. Thanks. I really want to try the Bju press video based 👍
We love Masterbooks!
We do too!! ❤
I have thier logic book which I'm enjoying.
Great information.
Glad it was helpful!
Oh man. This is my first year and I chose My Father's World. Now I'm nervous because you didn't even mention it in this video. Any recommendations for the Math and LA to add to go with it? My daughter is 11, was in AIG classes, and had ADHD.
No, don't be nervous. There were plenty of good ones that didn't make the list. I think MFW is a good choice too. There are just so many good picks to go with these days that you can't pick them all. I think you can pick any of the ones on this list and just do their Math and LA. I use BJU for LA and Math and we like them. Masterbooks is great if they want to take it a bit easier too.
I have used MFW for the first three years of all my kids’ education. Don’t be nervous.
MFW is a great choice!
I’ve used MFW for second and first grade and LOVE IT!!!! Just bought their new set for 3rd grade and can’t wait to start it. Don’t be nervous!
MFW is a fantastic Christian choice. I noticed she didn’t include Memoria Press either, which is another fantastic Christian program. She probably had certain standards and too many to choose from is all.
What about Sonlight and MFW? I feel like those are like the two best if anything
What is MFW please?
My Father's World.
Yes, both decent options. I had MFW on my 2023 video...just went with slightly different choices this year. Having said that I'm put off all the craft with MFW, and prefer something with a video option. Also Sonlight is on the fence with creation/evolution issues which I don't like but others don't mind.
@howtohomeschool Hello! Online ESL teacher to Classroom Montessori teacher to brand new full time homeschool teacher here! Thanks so much for this comment! I was on the fence about Sonlight Science but couldn't put my finger on why.. This really helped me decide! Love your videos!!
I believe the good and the beautiful Math only goes up to 6th grade. I would say they talk about God enough, they sprinkle a few Bible verses here and there.
Thanks for commenting. I agree they talk about God enough, but I think they don't talk about the gospel enougth which is what I talk about at the TGATB video (linked below the video).
@@howtohomeschool sorry I meant to say “don’t” thank you so much for replying. I was agreeing with your perspective. Thank you for taking the time to share so much information for new homeschoolers!
😬😬 definitely would not use alot of the ones on this list. We use TOG right now with Generations literature mixed in.
What is TOG please
@@sallymay6767 sorry, Tapestry of Grace
I've heard that's a good one.
