There is nobody else but Bruce Campbell that could have played Ash. Fun note, there is an Evil Dead homage in the post credit scene in the Doctor Strange 2 movie, so I'm glad you've seen these before.
The 3rd film (Army of Darkness) continues the story from Evil Dead 2, the remake is its own thing… not canon, then the show (Ash Vs. Evil Dead) picks up where Army of Darkness ends AND it is canon.
Wait until you watch Army of Darkness - the best one in my opinion. I can remember every quotable line from that film and its been referenced in many other shows. Army of Darkness has Two Endings - I wont spoil them beyond one is Groovy and the other has him yelling in despair. Random facts Even being Dead won't save Ash from getting to trouble as he was literally thrown out of Heaven by Zombie Sentry in Marvel Zombies vs Army of Darkness. Even the Ash that escaped the zombie marvel universe ended up in Werewolf marvel universe. In Reboot Season 3 Episode 1 - The user is based on Ash (Bruce Campbell) in the Evil Dead movies, specifically Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness,
Gosh I love this movie. As a teen I worked at a video store in the late 80s. A bunch of.my coworkers were actually going to a film school in sac. And we would make movies all the time. Evil dead and evil dead 2 were inspirations because they showed what could be done with one camera shots, low budget, and relatively easy to.pull.off effects. Gave hope to a lot of young film makers
I call this one the "Goldie locks" film of the series. First one was pure horror. Three is nothing but a comedy to me. This one is a good blend of the two. I don't think I'm alone in that view. Because the tone of the TV series does seem closer to this. Than it does to 1 or 3.
There are several versions of Army of Darkness, some that have different endings. I’m pretty sure the theatrical version has the canon ending that leads to Ash vs The Evil Dead. You might want to see that one if you plan to react to the show. I prefer that version myself.
Frustrating fun fact: the theatrical cut doesn't get produced anymore. There's now only the extended cut available. I had to hunt the theatrical cut down on backyard markets to even get a copy 😵💫
Bruce Campbell has a cameo in all 3 of Sam Raimi's Spiderman films. He's the ring announcer in SM1, the usher who won't let Peter into the theater to see MJ's show in SM2, & the sleazy French waiter in SM3. He also has a cameo in Doctor Strange & the Multiverse of Madness that I found pretty funny, which was Sam Raimi returning to the Marvel universe after a decade and a half.
Yes, the progression of the movie's styles is one of the interesting aspects of the series. Thank you for starting at the beginning. This is why I get frustrated when people tell reactors they can skip the first one. Yes Annie was great! Everything Samantha said about Annie was right on. I really thought her and Ash went good together was sad to see her die. BTW there was also an off Broadway Evil Dead musical that you can find on RUclips and even buy the soundtrack. It's a lot of fun. ruclips.net/video/VXUS95WRw3Y/видео.html
Sam is a smart guy. He told a story of watching the release of ED1 and he said people were laughing during serious scenes that were meant to be more horror. He said he was hurt a lot by it initially but then realized he had a marketable idea with the blend of comedy and horror.
To be honest I’d have no problems with reactors skipping the first one as it’s not needed with the recap in the second and the tone is very different from the other two.
@@SeanTube2099 However, if they continue into the TV series, they'd be better off starting at the beginning, as the series does include the first film in its backstory, especially in season 2.
@@SeanTube2099 why skip the first one. Let them enjoy the FULL experience. If you don't want to see it don't watch. I for one would like to see them do all three of the originals. The progression and differences is more of what makes it interesting. Why would you want less original Evil Dead? I don't get people that say skip the first one.
"Work Shed" is possibly the best overdubbing in a film ever. It was enough for Kurt Russell to ask Bruce Campbell to recite it when the two made Escape From L.A.
This is the movie where 3 members of the makeup crew,Greg Nicotero,Howard Berger and Robert Kurtzman, decided to form their own FX studio,KNB FX,which has become one of the biggest shops around.
No one has mentioned The Frightners (1996). Not only does Peter Jackson direct it and it is bonkers, it does have Michael J. Fox and a slew of other actors you will recognize. It's scary, gory, funny, serious, a masterpiece actually. Be sure to get the director's cut, I heard it's what made it the masterpiece it's become. Have fun!!!
@@tsogobauggi8721 I'd say The Frighteners is middle tier PJ. Not as good as his early splatstick trilogy, Heavenly Creatures or TLOTR, but heaps better than King Kong and The Hobbit bullshit.

Not sure if you guys noticed in the first Evil Dead film, but Freddy Krueger's glove is hanging above one of the doorways, and in the first Nightmare on Elm Street movie, Nancy has Evil Dead on the television in her room.
To avoid any confusion, the first 5 minutes were intended to be a recap of the first one, but they didn't have the rights to the footage. So those few minutes are essentially a remake until the camera hits him. That's when Evil Dead 2 officially begins.
The next movie is I think a very underrated one in the franchise and absolutely should have been called Medieval Dead like it was originally meant to be
It starts Evil Dead 1 then Evil Dead 2 takes place directly after The Evil attacks Ash from behind, then we continue from ED's second movie from where he's spinning through the woods. That's how Bruce sees it.
One of my favourite movies of all time. The Henrietta scene is legendary! You guys need to watch Ash vs The Evil Dead tv series. You need to do a review of the movie Upgrade. Literally nobody has seen that movie, it's a hidden sci-fi gem.
This is, interchangeably with Empire Strikes Back, my favorite movie of all time! I love everything they did making this film. I appreciate it more since I learned about it's production and how it connects to the first film. Chef's kiss
I loved this movie when I was a teenager, but it definitely hasn't aged as well as the original. And I feel they could have started the sequel straight from Ash spinning through the trees and done without the "recap" They still could've written in the new characters we got quite easily. And the stop motion stuff was mostly unnecessary and as Sam said it takes you out of the moment. Love your reactions though 👍

Now you guys need to watch "Return of the Living Dead"(1986) the "Real" 1# horror comedy of the 80's!
"No...that's a lot of blood"
And then some! Ash getting blasted with fake blood till he falls down is hilarious, and funnier in hindsight because they had to do a whole other take with black goo for the rewind shot. The Raimis just love to torture Bruce!
Ted Raimi gets his own torture, swearing buckets in the latex suit of Henrietta 🥵
“ The big universe of Ash.” Should be the new canonical name for the evil dead series
This here is pinnacle Sam Raimi in all his glory.
Yes !!!…….. I recommend the musical if you ever have the chance …….. sit in the front row ….
There is a musical!?
@@TBRSchmitt ruclips.net/video/xKKNoJVFdno/видео.html yup visits different cities really fun … the first few rows are covered in plastic cause at the end the closing number blood goes everywhere?!!!
YES!! My wife and I saw it several years ago. It is fantastic!!
Bruce Campbell...that man's chin could crack open a coconut.
that chin is a certified tool lol
the trees are like the whoomping willow in harry potter.
"Swallow this" That is the epitome of cheesycool, fistpumps galore!
Wait until you watch Army of Darkness - the best one in my opinion. I can remember every quotable line from that film and its been referenced in many other shows.
Army of Darkness has Two Endings - I wont spoil them beyond one is Groovy and the other has him yelling in despair.
Random facts
Even being Dead won't save Ash from getting to trouble as he was literally thrown out of Heaven by Zombie Sentry in Marvel Zombies vs Army of Darkness. Even the Ash that escaped the zombie marvel universe ended up in Werewolf marvel universe.
In Reboot Season 3 Episode 1 - The user is based on Ash (Bruce Campbell) in the Evil Dead movies, specifically Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness,
Groovy.
They basically used an entire towns supply of karo syrup for the blood
haha worth it!
Before 'The Evil Dead' Raimi did a short called 'Within the Woods' which is kinda an Evil Dead 0
Sam raimi mothers car ( one driven to the cabin in both films) has been in every movie he has made . He does this to honor his mother .
Personally this is my favorite Evil Dead movie. They’re all great tho. Each movie has its own original identity too. Can’t wait for Army of Darkness
if you guys think that Evil Dead 2 is gross, you're gonna be appalled by Ash V Evil Dead, that is like gross to the power of 10, still i loved it.
I always think this, but I finally got to say - Sam, your hair is absolutely beautiful!
Linda running in headless with the chainsaw never fails to crack me up
I recommend the director's cut of Army Of Darkness.
I call this one the "Goldie locks" film of the series. First one was pure horror. Three is nothing but a comedy to me. This one is a good blend of the two. I don't think I'm alone in that view. Because the tone of the TV series does seem closer to this. Than it does to 1 or 3.
I didn't realize how much Idle Hands (1999) took from this movie! Great reaction! Thank you.
Yeah the cut I've watched is where Ash slept too long and woken up to a apocalypse world.
I love that you can watch the first two from the perspective that Ash is just experiencing the utlimate psychotic break
I love your reactions throughout the whole evil dead series!!!
I've seen the play several times, in the splatter zone. Lots of fun and yes great soundtrack.
It was enough for Kurt Russell to ask Bruce Campbell to recite it when the two made Escape From L.A.
try Cabin in the woods, turns the genre on it's head, great stuff.
This is the movie where 3 members of the makeup crew,Greg Nicotero,Howard Berger and Robert Kurtzman, decided to form their own FX studio,KNB FX,which has become one of the biggest shops around.
The laughing sequence, I think, is my favorite part of the movie, maybe even the whole trilogy.
Mine too -- especially the deer head laughing. It is as this is the moment when Ash goes totally insane!
@@tsogobauggi8721 Seeing Braindead in a swedish theatre in 1992 remains one of my best cinema experiences. 😊
@@ObsceneVegetableMatter Oh god yeah. Seeing it with a crowd and hearing and seeing people FREAK OUT is great.
@@JnEricsonx Freak out? Where i saw it everyone was roaring with laughter 😄
@@ObsceneVegetableMatter did you also get the puke bag with the movie poster on it? Wish I hadn't lost it over the years (saw it in Malmö 1992).
There's also My Name Is Bruce in which a Bruce Campbell fan tracks him down and persuades him to come and save his village from something supernatural but everyone keeps calling him Ash and he keeps telling them "my name is Bruce".
I believe term for this is called Splatstick.
I feel sorry for ash to lose his hand now he's stuck being a handicapped for the rest of his life and it surely can't be easy using one hand all the time 😔
It's still the gold standard for horror comedies.
One Of My Personal Favorite Sequels Ever Made, Cool Reaction As Always Schmitt & Samantha, You Both Take Care
Take care as well!
@@TBRSchmitt 👍👌
Hello both, please react to „The Hitcher“ of 1986 with Rutger Hauer an C. Thomas Howell. One of the best road movie thrillers of all time.Very atmospheric due to score and camera work👀🫣🤐💀
This is my favorite of the trilogy. I freaking love this crazy messed up film. Please watch In The Mouth Of Madness next. It’s my 3rd favorite horror movie of all time.
i liked this part mnuch better than the first. scary as a kid, hilarious later on, and now is a classic.
You missed Evil Dead the Musical!!!
One of the funniest things I have ever seen, with amazingly hilarious songs, and a “splash zone”, for all of the blood.
Yes I saw that about 7 years ago it was amazing!!!
For this film, the interior of the cabin was a two-story set built in a high school gymnasium.
Army of Darkness is hilarious, with so many iconic lines. Can’t wait for your reaction to it. 🤪
Bruce has done a ton of movies and tv, all good ! My friends have m t him several times at horror-con and comic-con events!
The next movie is I think a very underrated one in the franchise and absolutely should have been called Medieval Dead like it was originally meant to be
I've always considered Evil Dead 2 to be a remake. The first is definitely worth watching but canon-wise I keep it separate from the rest.
If you want to see the best combination between slapstik comedy and gore you need to watch "Braindead" by Peter Jackson !
This is, interchangeably with Empire Strikes Back, my favorite movie of all time! I love everything they did making this film. I appreciate it more since I learned about it's production and how it connects to the first film. Chef's kiss
Please, please, please watch Dead Alive. It's one of Peter Jackson's very early films. It's so underrated.
Tbr, I loved the look you gave the camera when it showed the pic of ash in the past. Army of darkness is great.
