Thanks. This is my favorite remake/sequel. Plus, Ash is just one of my favorite flawed heroes. The t.v. series Ash Vs. The Evil Dead is an amazing continuation of the story.
This is the best one. Bruce Campbell singlehandedly carries that film. When he beats himself up...? Cinema just doesn't get any better than that. Screw the Oscar, he should have gotten a medal.
Did you notice Freddy Kruger's glove hanging in the tool shed above the door? Sam Raimi included it because in the first Nghtmare movie "Evil Dead" is on TV. Also, that "groovy" has got to be one of the best delivered lines in any movie ever.
Comic book continuity, Ash is in the same universe as Freddy Krueger ( Nightmare on Elm Street) and Jason Voorhees ( Friday the 13th ) and they are deadites which is where their abilities come from.
15:50 That shot of Ash looking straight into the camera with that crazy look on his face is the best shot of a crazy man ever, in my opinion. 💯 He just nails it and I love it! 💯
I saw this movie for the first time when I was 8 years old (don't ask how or why), and the only thing that really scared me was that deer lmao The rest of the movie was ok for some reason, it was just the damn deer I found so damn creepy. I agree, it's hilarious now though lol
@@Apethantos totally. This movie was a shock to the system for me as a horror fan back in the day. I was so used to ultra-serious horror movies. This made it cool to have a laugh as well as a scare 💀💀💀💀💀
The scene of Ash's hand being possessed inspired the 1999 movie Idle Hands about a teenage slacker's hand that becomes possessed so he cuts it off and it goes on a killing spree starting with his two stoner buddies who become stoner zombies, one of them is played by Seth Green, one of the creators of Robot Chicken. It's actually pretty funny, you guys would love it.
As much as I love the movie trilogy, the series does the seemingly impossible by deepening Ash's character, the Evil Dead mythology, provides inventive and gory special effects and introduces additional characters that truly makes the three season journey a ride to remember.
This movie is amazing and my wife and I got to see the musical in Las Vegas ten years ago. It is HILARIOUS. And the first few rows need to have tarps because OH DEAR GOD the blood!
The first definitely wasn't supposed to be a comedy, but was. The other two definitely lean into the comedic aspect. I love how he insults himself "He didn't do a good job."

Same! I think Evil Dead 2 is the best of the movie series, but Army of Darkness is my favorite. Ash is a full character in AOD, which they continue in Ash Vs Evil Dead, which is the best of both worlds.
Maybe my favourite film of all time. Certainly, it's the one I've seen the most, so... Also, Sam Raimi, the director/writer: "Hail he who has come from the skies to deliver us from the terrors of the Deadites." Great stuff, as always, lads.
I was 10 years old when the TV news show 20/20 did a story on how violent the just released "Evil Dead 2" was. I was terrified by the images they showed. I was instantly hooked. It would take me years to recognize how funny this movie is, because I found it so scary as a little kid. While it may seem tame by today's standards (the remake takes things to another level), in the UK this film was banned as obscene and was highly sought after on VHS as one of the "Video Nasties".
The people who made this series are local boys to Michigan. They were film students who decided to start making their own productions. They decided that Bruce should be the actor in their films because the ladies seem to like him most at college. If you look it up you can find a lot of short parody films they did in school. The cabin in these films is an actual cabin the the woods of Michigan. The Oldsmobile that appears in the films is actually the old car of Sam Raimi.
This movie is in my top 3 movies of all time (along with Robocop and Aliens). GOOD FOR YOU for finally watching it. Ok, I'm looking forward to your reaction (i know you're going to love it)
Bruce Campbell is an amazing actor and an amazing man. I met him in jersey about 20 years back at a night screening of Evil Dead 2 and the man has an excellent sense of humor, he's super personable and he's stayed that way :)
"Ash is cool as shit!" My guy.... this is just the tip of the iceberg. You have one more movie and a TV series to get through to discover the legend that is Ashley Williams. Also, if you ever get the chance to meet Bruce Campbell. Be warned... He is EXACTLY like what you think he's like. In the best way possible.
You know that white stuff oozing out of Henrietta's leg in that one shot? It's actually all of Ted Raimi's sweat that had built up inside the prosthetics until it was forced out.
They did a good thing here. Starting by retelling the previous movie with changes so it fits better with the sequel. (To some degree in Army of Darkness too.) Bruce Campbell was born to play Ash. Going from having trouble fighting a bookshelf in the first movie to chainsaw-armed superhero. Groovy! From this reaction I guess you'll love the third movie even more.
Freddy Krueger's glove is in the shed above the door. David Cannon was an intern working on set production on Evil Dead 2, he basically helped build and decorate the shed, partway through filming Evil Dead 2 he got a 2nd job that paid an actual salary on Nightmare On Elm Street: Dream Warriors as a carpenter and stole a Freddy glove prop which he put in the shed as an Easter Egg. David Cannon went on to work on such movies as Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure as a carpenter as well as Apollo 13 and Spider-Man: Far From Home as a Set Director.
A short film they made was called Within The Woods, which is a precursor of The Evil Dead. Some of the scenes from that short film were reused for Evil Dead 2, with Ash being possessed, Annie accidentally stabbing someone and trying to drag that someone from the door so Ash wouldn't get in.
Army of Darkness does great as a sequal too. It has about the same level of humor as Evil Dead 2 if not more. They keep us invested with a new setting and plot. The animation/claymation stays about the same but still does well like in this film. The props and acting are still just as great. I personally believe they increase the level of action in Army of Darkness compared to Evil Dead 2. Thats due to the size of the battles and who is involved. They even upped the ante with a secret after credits ending that came with a certain release of the film. So yes it still improves upon its predessesor. Bruce Cambel made this film what it is with his facial expressions and movements. They matched the written character and his dialogue so well. I dont think I could see many others doing such a great job. Possibly Willem Dafoe if I had to choose someone. It is why I was happy they kept Cambel for the evil dead tv series. The franchise has become a bit too big just like any other now. We have a tv series, video game, merch, novels, and a new film (evil dead rise). Unfortunately, Bruce is not in the newest film. So as to move on as a franchise it must leave him behind. He is pretty old now to play the part afterall. The new film did amazing still despite this. For me, it just is not the same. It is one of those franchises where you have grown to love seeing a part played by one person so long you cannot see it in any other way. I cannot see the evil dead franchise without the character Ash Williams..... and no one plays Ash Williams better than Bruce Cambell. So now that Bruce is gone it feels like a shell of its former self. Its like how it will be if they make a new pirates of the carribean without Johnny Depp as Captain Jack sparrow. Thats how I feel anyways.
Big favorite if mine. For not speaking for most of the film, Ash has such a great small character arc as we see him become the ultimate badass in a single night.
Please make next reaction on Killer klowns from outer space 1987 by Chiodo bros and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Its a black-comedy movie about aliens, who looking like clowns, Kill, Kidnap and Eat humans. It has a lot of funny and Scary moments. You'll like it.
When this movie came out, there was a girl at school who looked almost exactly like Linda, and another one was named Bobby Jo. Another horror comedy you might try is "House" from 1985.
The series keeps itself awesome by making each one it's own genre. Evil Dead was indie-horror... Evil Dead 2 was horror-comedy... and Army of Darkness continues this tradition by being a horror-comedy-adventure film. Also, you gotta keep going onto the show... which is amazing as well. Great reaction, always knew you two would fall in love with this one as it's AMAZINGLY constructed. From the camera angles to the story beats.
The BOLDEST move to remake the straight horror original in 15 minutes to transform it into a seamless horror comedy. Amazing! This movie is the one I was most looking forward to the two of you watching. I knew you'd have a blast! Groovy!
Ah, one of my favorite horror movies serieses! Bruce Campbell is not only a hilarious actor, but a really nice guy as well. He's every bit as cool as Ash! I met him at a Hercules/Xena (which was also done by the creators of this franchise, the Raimi brothers, and there are frequent references to these movies, especially in Xena) convention once. He and the Raimi brothers almost always work together, and with a few exceptions, Bruce always shows up in their work. You see him in the first three Spiderman movies. And some of their Marvel work as well. It's always fun to watch for his cameos. He wasn't in The Grudge, but Ted Raimi is. There is actually a comic book series called Freddy vs. Ash vs Jason, I have them. Paid a fair bit for them too! If anyone wants to know how Freddy ties into these movies, let me know. The comics are pretty hard to find, so it's not terribly likely a lot of people will read them, but I don't want to spoil anything, unless you want to know.💙
I'm really enjoying you guys and your channel and I'm 52 years old. Just keep being yourselves and supporting each other as brothers and your channel will grow. I do call you crazy lunatics, but that is a term of endearment. Thank you for putting some laughter and joy into my life. BTW, I still think you should give Tim Burton's "Corpse Bride" a view. I know you two would like it.
This movie is definitely one in a million. It's been my favorite for years and I love watching peoples first time to it cause it's almost a complete 180 from the first. So looking forward to Army of Darkness.
Lovee the Evil Dead Franchise!! ❤ I know you guys usually don’t watch the remakes but if you haven’t seen it i highly recommend Evil Dead 2013. A very well done remake in my opinion!
I'm not into Horror or gore flicks, but I will never forget being in a theater the night this movies preview hit the screen!!! The crowd was howling! It was insane! It was so over the top, and right when you thought it couldn't get any wilder, that eyeball.... Too damn funny! Not very often you get to witness something that wild as a collective group! I think everyone felt they got their tickets worth just in that one Evil Dead 2 preview!!!
Bruce Campbell vs The Army of Darkness is my favorite film of the franchise. 1. Army of Darkness 2. Evil Dead 2 3. Evil Dead Rise 4. The Evil Dead 5. Evil Dead 2013
6:54 = you guys were not paying attention on how the different angles while he was unconscious, was actually displaying how most of the day went through(very bright to sunset).
Its funny you guys mention Ash being an inspiration for Guts, because theres a ton of side by sides of Berserk Manga and Evil Dead/Army of Darkness that it's so uncanny. And fun fact, in berserk when Guts first gets his prosthetic hand cannon, he calls it groovy
I have an awesome mother that let me watch all these horror movies when I was real young. So happy I grew up seeing all these. Evil Dead 2 is the first horror movie I remember her letting me watch when I was around 7ish. Great memories.
Same! My brother and I never really had nightmares about them because she was always pointing out how they did stuff in the movies, explaining costumes, how they make fake blood, explaining that things were "halloween masks", etc. So we'd get creeped out sometimes but never so scared it'd ruin our night, lol.
There is a reason Evil Dead 2 in the span of 5 mins goes from 2 naive kids to double possession and evil incarnate taking over. Bruce Campbell in a panel interview said that they lost the rights to the first film so instead of a "direct sequel" they had to make a quick recap of the first one a make "an original film" to produce the 2nd film
If/When you decide to warch the sequel Army of Darkness, fyi watch the theatrical ending. Not to besmirch either cut, just knowing you two by now you're gonna like the theatrical cut better. Or just do a comparison thing.
Definitely one of the best horror films ever made. You have to see "Army of Darkness" and the "Ash vs.The Evil Dead" series. It's one hell of an adventure.
The show is great as well! You don’t have to do it on the channel but if you loved the movies, the show holds up. Ash Williams is one of my favorite characters.
If I remember correctly Kentaro Miura (R.I.P) saw Evil Dead 2 shortly after he started Berserk and began panicking thinking he was gonna get sued because of the similarities. Although it was coincidence at first, I think Miura just leaned into it adding the white streak of hair to Guts much later into the manga.
Sam Raimi is one of the best! Drag Me To Hell could be in the same realm/universe as the Evil Dead series. Raimi's flare for over the top practical FX can be seen in that too. Also, if it weren't for Bruce's cameo, I would've never believed that he directed Spider-Man
This is a trilogy, my good brothers. After Evil Dead 2 there’s Army of Darkness. I love this horror trilogy and not a big fan of remakes which of course I’ve seen them all except the new Netflix Texas Chainsaw Massacre. For me, it’s getting ridiculous to do original stories or pick up directly from the first one picking up 40 years later just doesn’t make the killer all that scarier and the sequels dilute the storyline and destroys the franchise. Glad you watched this and looking forward to seeing the next reaction. Take care! - Gene A.
Yes evil dead 1 and 2 - the originals were very good and also the more recent tv series ash vs the evil dead with bruce campbell which was also very good.
Army of Darkness is the third and final installment of the movie franchise, easily the funniest one. then there was a series called Ash VS Evil Dead and THAT was amazing for being stream only.
The peak mixture of Horror and Comedy! Army of Darkness is just as fun to watch, as is Ash vs The Evil Dead series!!! Also hope you guys watch Dog Soldiers!!!
You may want to consider watching the Evil Dead 'remake' at some point as well. It's much less comedic, because it's a remake of the first movie, but it integrates a lot of the good aspects from this movie as well. It's actually not even a bad remake either, but it does ramp up the gore because it has a budget _and_ it doesn't heavily rely on CG. Also, there's a post-credits scene for that remake.
YOU GUYS BEEN BEGGING FOR US TO CONTINUE EVIL DEAD, WE DID IT OVER A YEAR AGO AND HERE IS EVIL DEAD 2 AND ARMY OF DARKNESS IS COMING TUESDAY!
you guys are gonna flip over army of darkness
Nice reaction guys! And don't forget "Evil Dead Rise"

Jim Carrey stole Bruce Campbells career. Bruce could have been all of the Mask, Ace Venturer type roles
@@chrisellis3797 Bruce is too cool for any of Jim's roles. He was downright an action star.

Too damn funny! Not very often you get to witness something that wild as a collective group! I think everyone felt they got their tickets worth just in that one Evil Dead 2 preview!!!
I was first made aware of this franchise from the Canadian CGI TV series "Reboot" in which an episode parodies this movie. It was Groovy.
Ash is also inspiration for The DooMSlayer too.
Bruce Campbell vs The Army of Darkness is my favorite film of the franchise.
1. Army of Darkness
2. Evil Dead 2
3. Evil Dead Rise
4. The Evil Dead
5. Evil Dead 2013
Army of Darkness is my favorite of the trilogy.
Ash was an inspiration for Duke Nukum...
And Doom Slayer.
6:54 = you guys were not paying attention on how the different angles while he was unconscious, was actually displaying how most of the day went through(very bright to sunset).
Fun fact: in the workshed scene Freddy's glove from nightmare on elm street is over the door
Now finish this epic trilogy with Army of Darkness, the greatest cinematic masterpiece since Citizen Kane.
I can'.wait for their reaction to army of darkness.
If/When you decide to warch the sequel Army of Darkness, fyi watch the theatrical ending. Not to besmirch either cut, just knowing you two by now you're gonna like the theatrical cut better.
Or just do a comparison thing.
Yeah, the director's cut may be Bruce's preferred ending, but I like the theatrical one better. Ash's luck shouldn't ALWAYS be bad.
You guys are going to love the third one!
Absolutely love this film....its comedy is hilarious and ash is a kick-ass hero
Definitely one of the best horror films ever made. You have to see "Army of Darkness" and the "Ash vs.The Evil Dead" series. It's one hell of an adventure.
3:55 - *[Cue Indiana Jones]* _”It belongs in a MUSEUM!”_
The show is great as well! You don’t have to do it on the channel but if you loved the movies, the show holds up. Ash Williams is one of my favorite characters.
Ash Williams the horror movie icon that’s not a Psycho Killer
If I remember correctly Kentaro Miura (R.I.P) saw Evil Dead 2 shortly after he started Berserk and began panicking thinking he was gonna get sued because of the similarities. Although it was coincidence at first, I think Miura just leaned into it adding the white streak of hair to Guts much later into the manga.
I say calmly: IT TOOK YOU THIS LONG!?
can't wait!!!! you will love army of darkness
fun fact the Knight speaking at the end was the director Sam Raimi
Sam Raimi is one of the best! Drag Me To Hell could be in the same realm/universe as the Evil Dead series. Raimi's flare for over the top practical FX can be seen in that too.
Also, if it weren't for Bruce's cameo, I would've never believed that he directed Spider-Man
Great to see you guys returning to Evil Dead 😊
Looking forward to Army of Darkness! 🥰
29 seconds...I've never been this early
If you love Evil Dead 2, your also going to love Army of Darkness. I watched it so many times, I quote every line.
"This is my Boomstick!"
Shop smart shop s mart
Groovy!)
Can you two chads please watch "Ash vs the evil dead" series ??❤
