21:37 You can thank Ray Harryhausen for 'angry' skulls. IIRC they first appeared in 1963's Jason and the Argonauts, in a scene where the titular Jason and 2 of his crew fight 7 stop-motion skeletons. Human skulls don't have particularly prominent brow ridges, which made the skulls... not really expressive. Exaggerating the feature makes them look angry.

"Klaatu berada nikto" is one of the most famous phrases in science fiction. In the scifi classic The Day the Earth Stood Still it is the command Klaatu tells Helen Benson to give to the robot Gort in order to prevent Gort from destroying the Earth.
So of course Ash doesn't know it. And couldn't be bothered to write it down.
By now, with cableTV killing off local independant TV stations that played reruns of cheap movie classics like they did in the 1970s/80s younger folk aren't as familiar with older genre classics. When I was a kid independant stations would have dedicated scifi movie time slots on Friday nights and/or Saturday or Sunday mornings as well as time slots dedicated to action/war movies, westerns/John Wayne movies, etc. One local station in Phoenix for example had John Wayne Theater on Saturday afternoons - every week a John Wayne movie.

The fall of tv and the advent of internet, where the majority of media is recommended to you through an algorithm, seems to be really segmenting media off into different groups. Like, before when something was popular, even if you didn't watch/listen/etc to something, you were aware of its existence. These days, there'll be multiple youtube channels with 20mil subscribers, that MANY people have literally never heard of before.

You need to show Samantha the uncut ending, a.k.a the original bad ending. Before Ash vs. Evil Dead (which you should react to), the 4th movie in the form of a TV-show, there was a 4th movie in the form of a video game, which is Evil Dead: Hail to the King (it was released on Sega Dreamcast and PS1). Storywise it took place after Army of Darkness and Bruce Campbell voices Ash in the game. The game got a sequel, Evil Dead: A Fistfull of Boomstick, released on PS2 and Xbox, it takes place after the 1st game and Bruce Campbell voicing Ash again. There was another game, Evil Dead: Regeneration (which is a great game! Released on PS2 and Xbox), but that one was more of a "What If"-sequel, as in what if Ash never traveled back in time. Not only does Campbell voice Ash, but Ted Raimi even voices a comedic sidekick midget half deadite named Sam =) And now there's Evil Dead: The Game, have no idea what the plot is on the story mode, but it's only created just to have multiplayer, but who wants to play as the other characters, I wanna play as Ash!

    There exist an alternative ending
The one you saw is the "Good" ending, the one that Raimi and the crew shoot, after the first ending they made was not received very well by the audiences in the US(or was it in the UK?...can't remember)
The "Bad" ending, has Ash, drinking the botion, reciting the words..., but the difference is that the potion can not send him back to the future, only put him in a Stasis sleep for centuries, and he should have woken up back in his own time.
    But off course..., the words...
So he ends up, re-awakening from his slumber, in a crypt, with a 6 foot long beard and his throat parched, for him to get out and see that the world is destroyed around him, the Apocalypse did happen and he slept through, making him the last living man on earth, amongst the ruins of the old world.
Audiences thougth that this ending was too depressing, so Raimi and the Crew did this new ending for the other countries release of the movie, wich was much better received and became the "canon" ending.

The theatrical cut has the right ending that leads to the TV series.
This movie references a bunch of old movies. Including The Day the Earth Stood Still, Jason and the Argonauts, and, of course, The Three Stooges. It also references an old Japanese horror film called The Manster (that's where they got the eye in the shoulder). All well worth seeing (maybe a handful of Three Stooges shorts, but make sure they have Curly).
You should definitely watch the TV series Ash vs the Evil Dead. There are three seasons. Maybe after The Boys.
BTW, the reason it's less graphic is they were trying to get a PG-13 rating. Didn't work.

"Evil Dead II" is my all-time favorite movie. I love the entire trilogy and, yes, each film retcons the previous entry. Bruce Campbell is at the top of my actor list. Linda in "Army of Darkness" is played by Bridget Fonda, a star in her own right. Check out "Single White Female." I own the Ash giant action figure which comes with a chainsaw and boomstick. Another great Bruce Campbell vehicle is "Bubba-Ho-Tep" which is closest to "Evil Dead II" in tone. And one last recommendation with an "Evil Dead" feel is "Bad Taste," the first film directed by Peter Jackson (some of you may have seen his "Lord of the Rings" trilogy). Peter Jackson also acts in this film.

Fun facts: the mini Bruce Campbells were played by Bruce and two body doubles in Bruce Campbell masks.
-They only had enough money to make one explodable skeleton. So they painstakingly reassembled the skeleton after every use and blew him up again.
-The three magic words are from "The day the earth Stood Still".
-Ted and Ivan Raimi have cameos in this film. At first I thought Ted had a dual role but no, that's Ivan.
-This movie has two endings. One where Ash returns to his normal time but deadites exist as well and one where Ash returns too late and the deadites have destroyed the earth.
-The deadite suit actors were dancers from a local ballet school. They needed people slender enough to pass for reanimated dead AND were good at following complex directions.
