A few years ago i made a list of these movies : 1990 Tremors, 1995 Aftershocks, 2001 Back to perfection, followed by a 13part series in 2003, 2004 The Legend Begins, 2015 Bloodlines, 2018 A Cold Day in Hell, and planned for 2020 Shrieker Island. And although too many sequels often become silly or superflous, at least the first 3 or 4 movies continue nicely, [small SPOILER follows!] : similar to the Alien movie series revealing more and more of the Alien lifecycle
A genuine classic. Kids who grew up in the 90s watched this countless times on cable channels like TBS, TNT or USA. It seemed like the movie played constantly all summer every summer.
YES!! I grew up watching this movie on the Navajo Nation! The idea of the movie cane from Brent Maddock and SS Wilson whom were in the Navy. They were taking notes while sitting on a large Boulder in a Nevada Test Site and one of them said, "What if there was something under the ground that would never let us off this rock?" And thus Tremors was born. They filmed the movie on location in Lone Pine, California, which is where they filmed Back To The Future 3.
An absolute classic. When we went to see this at the cinema we had no illusions about it and was using it as a filler because there were no other big movies about for our weekly film night. When we came out we were hooked, I must have seen it countless times since. This, The Princess Bride and Galaxy Quest are three films that just get better and better as the years go by.
The SyFy channel did a whole biological history of the Graboids. They are officially a lost offshoot of land evolved squids that survived from prehistoric times.

It's the movie series that simply will not die. I've never been overly impressed with any of the sequels, just because it's not the same without the two main characters. But apparently it has enough of a following to keep justifying them. For me, the first film is all I need. I'm a simple guy.
A ~30min video was poated to the Tremors youtube channel in 2020 called "Tremors: Making Perfection", a retrospective doc of the making of the movie. Fans should check it out.
18:50 That is called a brass tumbler. It is full of "media" which is small pieces of abrasive material. It vibrates and the media slowly cleans the inside and outside of used brass. It is used by reloaders who make their own ammunition.
"Tremors" was basically my "The Floor Is Lava"...the game where you can't touch the floor. I based my version of that game on this movie...and even called it "Tremors"...that's how much I love this movie. And Reba! Gotta love Reba McEntire! She's not on Dolly's level, but she's still royalty in country music.

18:55. That’s a brass tumbler. If you reload ammunition, one part of the process is to place the used brass casings in a medium (corn husk, etc) inside the agitator. After some time, the brass is clean and shiny, ready for a new primer, powder, and bullet.

There's some really nice realistic touches in this film too, like showing the main characters eating a meal when they get back to town, since they spent all night on that boulder. Of course they would be hungry, but some movies wouldn't bother to put a small detail like that in there.
it was originally much more grown up as the intention was for an R rating with 17 f-bombs. the studio wanted it more family friendly, so most were edited out leaving just a single one instead

Great movie! One of the funny things about the character of Burt Gummer(played by Michael Gross) is that Michael Gross had just finished filming the last episode of “Family Ties”. His character in that show, Steven Keaton, is a left-leaning peace-love-dope ex-hippie, the polar opposite of Burt Gummer- which made Michael Gross’ character that much more funny.
Fun fact: for the pole-vault scene they couldn't find a bunch of boulders line up like that, so they had to bring in a bunch of heavy machines to move the boulders into position.
Poor Mindy, traumatized in Perfection Valley, goes to her Grandfathers new park (Jurassic), traumatized again, returns to perfection Valley...She is a movie unto herself!
I JUST watched this on cable this afternoon. I've only seen it about 37 times, but I always enjoy it -- good script, some fun acting (even if some is over the top), and a fun "monster". Good fun watching you two watch it! This is what you can call fun entertainment.

Great reaction and discussion.. perfect balance of horror and comedy. Have always loved this movie... totally rewatchable due to a great script and great acting by the primary characters.
@@RetroRobotRadio The second one is more or less "okay," nothing special. But it should have ended there. Every sequel after that next one gets progressively more boring, and less entertaining.

I'm so happy to get to see you guys enjoy this one! Tremors is just a perfectly executed movie! It knows exactly what it is and what it wants to do, and it does it all with so much wit, charm and joy! It's so much fun to watch and it never gets old, either.

this movie is my guilty pleasure i LOVE all the tremors movies have fun watching them. its a young kevin bacon its a low B monster movie it has 6 sequels
I love this movie. It's like Aliens: whenever it's on tv, I am compelled to watch it. The chemistry between the cast is incredible. I completely forgot that Lex from Jurassic Park is in this. She also returned for Tremors 3.
Burt (Michael Gross) had just finished the TV series "Family Matters" as Michael J Fox's, ex-hippie, father. So this was a massive change in character for him and it surprised all of us.
Family Ties, and yes, I was just thinking about how newer viewers don't have that connection for Gross. Back then, it was almost like watching Mr Rogers turn Rambo!
As a kid the difference between Burt and him in Family Ties was my first time experiencing an actor playing two such different characters. He did such a good job that by the end of the movie he was no longer The Dad from Family Ties for me. The only thing that comes close is lovable Woody from Cheers turning into a serial killer in Natural Born Killers.
Wooh, Tremors! Great reaction! I love this old monster flick. It was the first sort of "scary" movie I saw as a kid and I also loved it. Surprisingly well made for what it is, good use of low budget FX, good pacing, decent characters and there's something about 80s and early 90s movies where there was some thought out behavior and traits (rules) of the monster that the characters can learn and then use to overcome and defeat it. Tremors, Aliens and Predator were the main inspirations of a lot of games (not digital ones) me and my friends would play as kids. Good memories! :D
Note the hair color change at 27:38 - The original ending was just Val and Earl riding off into sunset, the kissing scene was added way later after test audiences hated that Val and Rhonda didn't have any kind of closure to their story at the end. One of my all-time fav films and a perfect friday night popcorn mayhem movie. \o/
YES!!! Welcome aboard the The world of Burt Gummer. The firearms expert rabbit hole. After the second Tremors I only watched to see what Burt was gonna do next.
Greatest B-Movie of all time... so glad you guys did this one! Edit: 2:17 it knew the car was there from an earlier scene... if you watch when Burt and Heather arrive home, their truck bounces slightly into an indentation in the ground... that's a Graboid hole...
One of my all time favorite movies. What's great to know is that about 75%-80% of this movie was improve with the dialog and acting. That's why Val and Earl seem soo real. Such great chemistry.
Right around the time of this movie, my family had one of those cable boxes with the switches that let you de-scramble pay channels. And it was also when pay-per-view channels were just channels constantly playing the movies, so buying it just unscrambled it for one movie viewing. Tremors was one of those movies so I saw a lot of it. And pretty much every other 1989-1991 movie. Especially comedies, sci-fi, and, well, movies rated R for certain reasons that an adolescent would be interested in.
When I was in college, this was one of the movies we got a free screening of before it was released to theaters. All you had to do was fill out a questionairre about the film afterwards. Before or even since then, I have never heard an audience squeal with delight as when Burt and Heather turned to the wall of guns.
This is one of the best movies of all time, this has great characters, story telling, jump scares, action….bacon and ward are such a great tandem and i wish they would have came back together…RIP FRED WARD
Tremors is a movie I never tire of watching and rewatching. There's so much charm, chemistry, and clever dialog. I grew up on this movie and have been a fan of the franchise. The subsequent flicks taper in the charm area but still entertaining. The series I found surprisingly good and deserved a second season IMO.
Great movie. One of my favorites. Tremors 2 is pretty good too. Though Kevin Bacon and Reba McIntyre don't return. I'm afraid the law of diminishing returns kicks in with the sequels and TV series. If you want to see more Fred Ward, who played Earl, I suggest Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins. A very entertaining movie with a terrific performance by Joel Grey. BTW, that was the girl from Jurassic Park.
@@kamkelevra There's wonderful dialogue between Remo and Chiun. Chiun especially has so many great lines. Chiun: It would be better for you to eat this can than what is inside it. Why must everything in your country be coated in monositi...monosoti... Remo: Monosodium glutamate. You can't even say it Chiun: I can say "rat droppings". That does not mean I want to eat them.
And I remember him saying something about how old he was comparing his age to a tree it's been so long I can't remember for sure...and that crazy obstacle course he completed and then had the lights turned off him and the smart ass guard dogs...it's a forgotten jem
@@kamkelevra Remo: How old are you? I mean, you're really old. Aren't you? Chiun: For and apricot, yes. For a head of lettuce, even more so. For a mountain, I have not yet begun in years. For a man, I am just right.
I'm excited for you all to watch 'Tremors 2' which is THE best of the entire Tremors franchise! (including the tv series) for 1 simple fact.. BURT! (the father in family ties) and has one of Burt's best lines. ".. I am.. completely out of ammo!.... that's never happened to me before..."
I HIGHLY recommend the second one. It went straight to video but was meant for theatrical release but Universal cut down the budget and backed out on a theatre release at the last second. But even with a slightly smaller budget 2 is funnier and actually scarier. You can stop at 2 though. Its a huge down slide after that one.
19:00 - "What's she doing?" She's cleaning spent brass casings. They're survivalist types, so they reload ammo for their guns. When you go shooting, you collect your used casings, clean them and reload them with custom bullets and powder charge. This allows you to make ammo that's more powerful than commercially available ammo. Or to recycle casing for expensive ammo, cutting your costs to shoot. Reloading used to be a lot more common in the 1980's/90s. After the fall of the Soviet Union, cheap ammo imports from former Eastern Bloc nations helped drive down the cost of ammunition, so reloading became less common.
Tremors! A fantastic pick. I was afraid it wouldn't come up because I figured y'all saw it already but good to see I was wrong (well, half-wrong lol). Needless to say I immediately smashed that like 😉 But this was yet another fantastic video more than worthy of it! EDIT - Loved Sam's cheering for Burt and Heather. Which I do too. And although too many sequels often become silly or superflous, at least the first 3 or 4 movies continue nicely, [small SPOILER follows!] :
similar to the Alien movie series revealing more and more of the Alien lifecycle
A genuine classic. Kids who grew up in the 90s watched this countless times on cable channels like TBS, TNT or USA. It seemed like the movie played constantly all summer every summer.
When I was younger, instead of playing "floor is lava", me and my friends would play "tremors".
Fred Ward is such a hoot he’s great in every role classic old time actor, thanks again y’all that was a blast
I never really was a fan but i thought REMO WILLIAMS was a very good and underated movie.
@@CaptWalker just read he passed away today, Rip Mr Ward I and many others enjoyed your work

Nice! That’s awesome!
Many movies have been filmed around Lone Pine :-)

Ah yes, that makes sense about the BTTF3 filming location.
That blue thing Heather started up uses the sand and vibrations to clean the empty brass cartridge cases...
Correct!
👍👍👍😁
I agree! Absolutely love all these films!

Easily one of Kevin Bacon's best performances and introduces everybody's favorite survivalist; after this are Tremors 2: Aftershocks, Tremors 3: Back to Perfection, Tremors 4: The Beginning, Tremors 5: Bloodlines, Tremors 6: A Cold Day in Hell and Tremors 7: Shrieker Island; this brilliantly mixes animatronics, miniatures and other practical effects
And then there is the TV series...
It's the movie series that simply will not die. I've never been overly impressed with any of the sequels, just because it's not the same without the two main characters. But apparently it has enough of a following to keep justifying them. For me, the first film is all I need. I'm a simple guy.
Burt became the hero!
Surprisingly, they kept the quality fairly high through #4. I've seen #5 and the half finished cgi is tough to watch.

And then along came Tremors 2 and nobody could stop Burt's reign as the greatest man ever.
18:55. That’s a brass tumbler. If you reload ammunition, one part of the process is to place the used brass casings in a medium (corn husk, etc) inside the agitator. After some time, the brass is clean and shiny, ready for a new primer, powder, and bullet.
I prefer wet tumbling myself, less dust and cleanup afterwards.
Also quieter.
@@MandoWookie Got a friend who uses little stainless steel pins instead of corn husk. But I still just use corn husk and sometimes put in some oil or brass cleaner with it.
I just today learned that my uncle does rock tumbling, so I understand this whole conversation!
This is just a delightful movie. It's the perfect "I can watch grown-up movie, I'm not a kid anymore" fare. The chemistry between the actors is perfect. The dirt effects are believabe. No CGI, and where the effects actually DO look fake, it just adds to the charm. Amazing. The characters make intelligent decisions, but are defeated at every turn Oh NO! Thanks for your excellent reactions, once again.

I completely forgot that Lex from Jurassic Park is in this. She also returned for Tremors 3.
Solid chemistry between cast really makes or breaks a movie and some movies in the 80s just have it down pat.
RIP Fred Ward, amazing reaction
Burt (Michael Gross) had just finished the TV series "Family Matters" as Michael J Fox's, ex-hippie, father. So this was a massive change in character for him and it surprised all of us.
The theatre roared when the camera showed his bunker wall with his collection. Good times.
I had this on VHS as a kid and it had a trailer for Sam Raimi’s “Darkman” at the beginning, another film you guys should watch!

One of my all time favorite movies. What's great to know is that about 75%-80% of this movie was improve with the dialog and acting. That's why Val and Earl seem soo real. Such great chemistry.
Still a classic!!!
This film has always been a personal favorite of mine. I saw it multiple times in the theater back in 1990.
This movie is Jaws meets the "the floor is lava".

19:00 - "What's she doing?"
She's cleaning spent brass casings.
