The Irish college teams that flew in are no joke, they easily wiped out many of the top US college players. As usual, great video and great explanations!
    Talking about more obscure sports is a good thing, but what about the famous ones you haven't spoken of yet?
    Athletics? (possibly a 3 parts video could be made on this one: Track, Field, and road races)
    Swiming? (pool and open waters)
    Rowing ?
    Canoeing? (Sprint, Slalom, Kayak Polo, and so forth)
    Sailing
    Road cycling ? Mountain Biking ? BMX ? Trial ? (Cycle ball, a weird sports too, but part of a huge family of sports)?
    Skiing? (Cross country, Alpine, Snowboard, Freestyle, Speed skiing, Grass Sking, Ski jumping, Nordic Combined, Telemark?)
    Biathlon?
    Triathlon ? (and it's many variants such as Aquathlon, Duathlon, Cross Triathlon, winter Triathlon etc...)
    Modern Pentathlon ? (Ok that one is an obscure sport for many people I admitt)
    Speed Skating? Short Track Speed Skating?
    Bobsleigh, Skeleton and Luge (Ice track and natural track for the Luge)
    I remember you did a video on track cycling a couple of years ago, and when you think about it, you could exactly use the same format for all the sports listed above the same way you did for track cycling: it's basically a race in each case, with some variants depending on the nature of the different events...
    Anyway, even if this post gets forgotten, just keep dooing the good job, it's always a pleasure to watch your rules explained videos!

  • @JWarrior_81
    @JWarrior_81 4 года назад +2

    In the US a group of kids get a tenis ball and throw it against the wall, where someone needs to catch it. If the ball hits them and then hits the ground they have to run to the wall and if someone picks up the ball and throws it at the wall before you get there you get a strike or a letter. Once you get the letters to spell out wallball or redbutt or the number of strikes you have to go face the wall and someone will try to throw the ball as hard as they can at that person's butt. The persons letters get cleared and the game continues. There is no winner unless everyone gets bored and decides do something else or leave before the person gets their letters.

    Im like 90% sure im remembering something wrong

    Reminds me of a version of a popular school sport around here known as downball for four square. Sometimes walls were involved but that was often on improvised courts or just house rules so to speak. The aim was always to get to King or the serving square. We often had teachers get involved for a round or two. Not sure how widely it is played beyond here.

    Hi Ninh. 40x20 actually has technically 5 'walls'. Front wall, two side walls, the back wall and the roof. The ball must hit the front wall on the serve or on a return. Tactically, You may use the side walls or back wall to help your return shot to the front wall. The roof is regularly used during a game as a defensive measure.

    All the elementary schools I know of in southern California have Handball walls. The only difference it's generally played with large rubber balls at schools, generally they're the same balls used for kickball. Generally it's one large wall and there's a court on both sides of them. It's elementary so you have to add in school ground rules as well. Such as white magic, black magic and other techniques that you have to call out and properly perform if you do. Sorta like how in the game of Horse/Pig if you call a swish or a bank shot, or again because of elementary rules, one handed, backwards, one footed, non dominant hand and so on.

    • @NinhLyUK
      @NinhLyUK  4 года назад +4

      Believe it or not, Jai alai is derived from Basque Pelota, which is the French/Spanish version of Handball.

    • @t.a.banuet5009
      @t.a.banuet5009 4 года назад +1

      Yep, you got the idea! However, we handballers would say jai alai is just the wicker basket version of Pelota Mano (handball)! And don't even get me started on our (real) handball vs. 'team' handball. Our sport is ancient--or at very least Medieval. Team handball is a 20th century game invented by gym teachers. The naming controversy unfortunately stems from the fact that there was no prior real handball tradition in the Germanic countries (Denmark, Germany) where team handball originated.

    And in primary school here in Australia there was this form of handball I played a lot in grade 6 and 7 when I was a kid, it was either a 2 sided court or a 4 corner sided court
    And this handball I’ve never herd of or seen in my life, and I’m seeing an element of of course squash and racquet ball but also jai alai and basque pelota
    And American handball which does look really close/similar, who I suspect might be good at this

      They still do. It's televised on ETB-Sat. It also has several variations and Ninh has already done Jai-Alai, which is probably the most famous variant worldwide. Pelota Mano (the hand-ball version which is pretty similar to this) is the most popular in northern Spain where the sport is still alive and well. There's also Pelota Valenciana which is a stranger variant with an actual court and teams on opposing sides.

    I invented a hybrid sport of Wall Ball with Team Handball. You cant throw the ball to your teammates ( except for the goalie). The goalie cannot throw the ball past the halfway line. You score goals by knocking rhe ball into the goal. The goal is wider than regular Team Handball but not as " tall". You can only bounce the ball once. You can hold onto the ball but you must stand still. Less players on each team. 4 players total. 3 regular team mates and one goalie. I call the sport " Fist Blast Ball".

    we would play this in school with pretty different rules. It was dirtier and in an open court. For example, it is allowed to block the vision of the opponent as long as you don't touch the ball. Or that you can try to hit the ball as low as possible (except the serve of course) so that the opponent is not able to hit it back, when you do this perfectly the bal just comes rolling back instead of bouncing and it isnt possible to hit it after one bounce since it just fucking came rolling back.
