For my own writing research I’ve dug into a lot of obscure sports in the past so I’ve only seen three sports here I’d not heard of before (flickerball, 3x3 and slam ball…) but I always look forward to seeing more! And even the ones I am familiar with it’s always great to see Ninh’s videos

I love learning about obscure sports like this! It opens up the world and is refreshing to know there is more than just the same old stuff you see regularly. PAto and Horseball seem like interesting sport and looks like a mix of Polo, Handball and Tug-of-war. Keep these coming!

Teams consisted of members from neighboring ranches, who would try to carry the duck back to their home turf to win. Also, while many people were killed by falling off their horses, many more were killed in knife fights that broke out during the game. And people say soccer riots are violent!
Yes. The games got so violent that it was oficially banned in Argentina during a big chunk of the 19th century. Until in the early 20th century someone figured out some rules to make it less violent, and the rest is history.
Argentinians got bored of polo so they added basketball to it but then the rules got messed up in translation. Also sounds like being a leftie would make me pretty bad at this game

Even though football is vastly more popular here, Pato was chosen as the national sport because it was traditionally played by gauchos (sort of cowboys from Argentina). I don't think many people play it nowadays either, as polo is the more popular horseback sport here. Anyway, good video as always!

Yes ... though 'Pato' means 'Duck' in Spanish. Allegedly they used to throw around a duck in a cage instead of a ball ... hence the name. So yes, slightly more civilised!

I suggested it in your last video :D Some data of Pato: pato is spanish for "duck"; and this is why it's called like that: back in 18th century the "gauchos" played it all around "Pampa" with a duck inside a leather bag. They fought for the "pato" riding their horses and tried to run with the duck to their house to eat the duck (and sometimes gauchos killed anothers in fights because of the game). There weren't any field size: all the Pampa was the field. It was forbidden from 1822 until 1938, when the rules were created (yes! before pato hadn't any written rules!). As Polo, Pato's players have handicap (known as "Ventaja" -it's not allowed to use english words-) and 10 is the maximum. In 1953 the president Perón declared Pato as national sport and gave himself 10 goals of Ventaja, although he never played it.
