Lea Salonga deserves more recognition in the Broadway world. Her voice is flawless, and she conveys such a deep emotion without even trying. Her facial expressions in this song are the epitome of perfection. She doesn't overdo it, but you can TELL she knows what she's singing about.
Probably my favorite music video of Lea. I love her facial expressions in this piece, very subtle, so much finesse, aside from her voice and enunciation which of course are perfect. This is the video I always like to visit when I tire of sports and politics.
Lea is absolute PERFECTION!!! Her voice ... Her beauty ... Her sincerity ... I don't think I've ever heard anyone say a bad word about her. Her talent is undeniable. When she sings it seems to come straight from her heart ... not some over-dramatized "performance". I think this is why she touches everyone so deeply. My greatest wish is to someday be able to see her perform live.
In December 2018 i had the the opportunity & honour to see her sing live at the Sydney Opera House, Australia. It was a majestic concert & she doesn't rely just on her voice to sell the song. She has so much facial expression in each song. I thought that she would never come to Australia & ticket prices were reasonable too. If she gets to sing near you , beg, borrow or steal to get your tix. It will be the best concert of your life.
100% agree. My voice teacher just assigned the song and at first I thought that and when I started to sing through it you realize it’s a lot to work for.

@@KAF128 this song was added during the Broadway production back in the 90s (when they made many changes to the plot too). I think most productions in the 2000s now include this, regardless if they're following the original West End plot/production.

I've heard a lot of beautiful music, lots of beautiful songs, lots of wonderful, beautiful singers. But I keep coming back to this; maybe the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. Thank you, Lea Salonga.
She and this spectacular performance got me obsessing over this brilliant song. I often come back here and everytime I do, I could never just listen once or twice but at least 5x. Yes, it takes me 5 loops to get over the weight of this song and the intensity of it to me. I haven't seen Chess so I'm just making my own context out of it. Man, how deeply it resonates with me.
Lea did the best version of this song and also I still love the fact as well that this musical was written by the boys from ABBA and you can definitely hear it in the song that it has an Abba-esque sound ❤️❤️❤️
It has always been amazing to me that Benny and Bjorn can write such wonderful songs for women (I guess they sort of had to...). I don't want to say "from a woman's point of view," but all of their ballads especially have an unusual "slant" to the lyrics, all the way up to Voyager.
In my opinion, she is one of the Greats, I love her songs, personality and her Beautiful face. I am partial to Filipina women but she has it all, she brings tears to my eyes when she sings the Argentina song, wow! ❤️❤️ Joseph Arsanis
I love this song sung by Lea Salonga and Cynthia Erivo. Their delivery is both dramatic and innocent. Emphasis are properly placed. Beautiful song...two beautiful ladies.

Long ago
In someone else's lifetime
Someone with my name
Who looked a lot like me
Came to know
A man and made a promise
He only had to say
And that's where she would be
Lately, although her feelings run just as deep
The promise she made has grown impossible to keep
And yet, I wish it wasn't so
Will he miss me if I go?
In a way
It's someone else's story
I don't see myself
As taking part at all
Yesterday
The girl that I was fond of
Finally could see
The writing on the wall
Sadly she realized she'd left him behind
And sadder than that, she knew he wouldn't even mind
And though there's nothing left to say
Would he listen if I stay?
It's all very well to say
"You fool, it's now or never"
I could be choosing
No choices whatsoever
I could be
In someone else's story
In someone else's life
And he could be in mine
I don't see
A reason to be lonely
I should take my chances
Further down the line
And if that girl I knew should ask my advice
Oh, I wouldn't hesitate, she needn't ask me twice
"Go now!"
I'd tell her that for free
Trouble is, the girl is me
The story is, the girl is me
