I would think that SK would have a system in place (name changes, etc) to hide these guys/girls from NK. But if they did, I would think advertising who you are on YTube would be the first thing they'd want you NOT to do.

What I do know is South Korea is certainly latching onto the ability to have free speech, and they proved they aren't giving it up after they ejected Park Geun Hee (the woman president) from office over a lot of issues. South Korea probably has no policy on the defectors going on RUclips because to the ROK, the defectors are Korean, so they're afforded the same rights as normal citizens once they get debriefed and set up with temporary living quarters.
I remember a video when they said that they only got paid 100 won the entire time that they served in the military. When they hear that the lowest rank in the US Army gets paid 2 million won, they are shocked. I wonder how they will react when they find out that is per month and not in a four year term?
Fun fact. 1,300-1,400 is E1 pay a month. That’s 1.5 million won. Basically yes they get paid the same amount of money. A million won isn’t much in usd. It’s around 850 which is a PFC pay or E3. As a E4 I make around 950-1000 a check.

As a veteran of the US Army, I know full well exactly how badly it would go for North Korea and I desperately wouldn't want to have to show them the kind of destruction we're capable of. They have no idea what they're up against and were brainwashed. The average North Korean citizen is a victim and it's the Kim regime that needs to be taken down. The North Korean people should have the freedom to choose their own destiny, but for thousands of years they've had outside nations stepping all over them, and now the Kim family is doing the same thing. I hope that if there ever is a conflict, we can get them to surrender quickly with minimal loss of life.

They did not even bring up benefits like tuition assistance should an enlisted person want to get a university degree. It's crazy with all this bullshit racist evil circulating around in our country in 2020 and 2021 but, as a Dine Native American, if we all watched videos like this, and realized how fortunate we all are and how much we could help other sports given or fortunate position, and celebrate the things that make us the same which also make us laugh, we would be less privileged and more appreciative. Jon, my sentiments exactly, it’s been awhile since I was on active duty but never heard anything about overtime pay 💰 There were reenlistment bonuses though. Also I lost 50 pounds in 16 weeks at Fort McClellan where the drill sergeants would start screaming at us to leave the mess hall because we had been in there too long. I generally hadn’t even sit down at a table yet 😉
They mentioned in one of their previous videos that the DPRK Navy has a better life than the Army. The Navy had better gear and they're more nourished since they can fish at sea.

I served in the US military from 1987 to 1991. I entered voluntarily (of course) and I am proud of my service. I'm also proud of you guys for defying that totalitarian regime. What kind of military can you have when most of your soldiers are there unwillingly? You are correct that we have a superior force. Not because we have better training, but because we have soldiers who are passionate about their training. Congratulations to you men for finding a better country to defend. To answer the question about shooting while wearing glasses, military issued glasses carry the lens at a different angle than the ones you get from a civilian doctor. You can look straight ahead through the gun sights without folding your neck like a pretzel, because the glasses aren't angled down for reading.

@Johnston Steiner The wardroom is communal so everyone has to contribute an equal amount of funding for the whole officer echelon, and thus any single officer is unlikely to starve under that circumstance. However, I forgot the source but there seems like at least one incident occurred where the wardroom ran out of supplies (spent their money on overpriced ingredients before leaving port) at sea and the CO had to let the officers eat food from junior rates' galley.

In case any Koreans are watching there's Boot camp/ Basic Training for recruits THEN when you complete that you are sent to advanced training regarding your MOS. Basically the job you are assigned, whether it's Infantry, Artillery, Engineers, Logistics, etc. THEN you are sent to your unit.

They should know basic English. I've heard from alot of defectors that north North Korea teaches English as a mandatory class in schools. Specifically British English because the US is at all times depicted as a monstrous dystopia

He also said that not everyone learned English, some people learned different languages so they could possibly utilized in other regions of the world or as interpreters in North Korea. There are a lot of allied and enemy soldiers that comment that Americans fight like rich men. The US is the first major power to have a fully mechanized military, bring their own food from home to avoid relying on foraging, and weapons tend to spray a lot more bullets.
Hello guys; I just started watching your videos this weekend! I love them. One about aircraft carriers mentioned military exercise one was called “Team Spirit.” I am a former US Marine & spent 3 years in the Pacific. I took part in Team Spirit ‘85 in the year 1985 of course. 2 weeks at the DMZ training with ROK Marines. A little before your time. I will all the best for both of you!

As an American, I love our South Korean friends and the People of Asia as our hearts have fought with them for Freedom over the past many years. My extended family member dies at Palawani and my mother knew people that came back from the Bataan Death March. Americans are fighting a soft war of ideology and the only tools are to show the real America to those such as yourself to react. I hope you get an opportunity to watch some of the great stories of sacrifice Americans had made in past wars such as WW2, Bosnia ETC because I think those people show how much extra my people are willing to give. The USA is a country of refugees. I have friends whose parents/ or themselves are refugees from Iran, Vietnam, Korea, China, Venezuela, Cuba, Iraq, and other places. If the world knew more about what we really share and you can react I think it shows how much alike we are really. Thank you I enjoy your commentary very much, You guys make me smile because your so well grounded and honest :)

I've been able to look at North Korea through the DMZ and that's about it. I know from my unit that nobody thought the North Korean's were enemies, just the leadership. I hope the best for you.

A few corrections. Only the Marines has a 3 month boot camp. the chow hall is only free if you are single and live on base in the barracks if you live off base or in family housing on base you have to pay if you want to eat at the chow hall.
I was an US Army Soldier assigned to the U.N Security BN, Joint Security Area (JSA) Panmunjom from 99'-00' and am fascinated by these videos. I always really wanted to just reach across the border and introduce myself, shake their hands and sit down and enjoy some soju and kimchi together. These videos really drive home the point that we're really not all that different.
Great video, it's really important to hear from the "other side". I hope you guys are acclimating well to being in the South, and that you're able to take advantage of the many opportunities being in the "free world" can give you. We're all really on the same side, the side of progress and freedom. Best wishes from the USA.
Y'all forget to mention some things: 1.) veterans that are disabled from military service get monthly checks from the Government, and the amount of money you get depends on how disabled you are. Many vets get such high checks that they can live off them comfortably without needing a job, and they get them for the rest of their life. 2.) veterans are given special military discounts in several stores and restaurants that are exclusive to those who served. 3.) Depending on the state, the government will pay the college tuition for both you and your children after a certain amount of time living there. In Wisconsin, Veterans and their children who live there for 5 years are granted free collage so long as the collage they choose is in the state. 4.) on Veteran's Day, many restaurants will serve veterans free food all day.
So glad you two made it to South Korea! I think the people of North Korea are good, but the government is a mess. I served in the United Nations Command in Seoul, South Korea with the US Army and really enjoyed my service there. It's a wonderful country!
6:50 there is also housing expenses if u live on a house on or off base, tho that is if you are married because single soldiers live in the barracks. There is also more pay if you get deployed and you get even more if you are married to compensate being away from your spouse
In the U.S. military, after basic training enlisted service members go to advanced training. In the Army, this is called Advanced Individual Training (AIT). The length of your AIT depends on your Military Occupational Specialty (MOS). The time ranges from 4 weeks to almost 2 years, depending on the complexity of the training. Only then does the soldier report to their unit - after they graduate and are qualified in their MOS. They do no not go from Basic to their unit without successfully attending their AIT school. Edit: Also, all enlisted soldiers are trained in repelling at Basic Combat Training - certain MOS's and Units get more extensive training on that skill set. In the U.S. officers pay for their own food at the chow hall and enlisted are provided free food. ....and rest assured - nobody in the military gets overtime pay 🤣
My husband became a US citizen by joining the Navy. We met while I was in the Army during my first contract and he was just starting his 2nd contract. I got out after my first contract to help support his Naval career and to help raise our kids

@@LeoArmada Not to come off as arrogant but I very much doubt the requirements are that hard, leaving a lot of room to be able to pass. The NK soldiers are malnourished kids and most would probably not be able to commit to very strenuous activity because of that.

Holy mother of God. Those men were going into training with loaded weapons and NO protective gear? I never experienced a rogue soldier freaking out and turning his weapon on his fellow soldiers, but we were there voluntarily! Not only that, accidents happen! It's amazing that a country this small and this oppressive has any military at all.
Observing the ideology and ability of the state in question, it's not unrealistic that they would maintain a lax standard on safety in attempt to keep up with the rest of the world, specifically the US. No, it's not fair to anyone put in that situation, not the people being trained or the trainers themselves. It's not even fair to those orchestrating the maneuver. All of it is manufactured by the indoctrination of the ideology. The losses of life are also to be at the hands of that same indoctrination. None of it is okay.

Jon, my sentiments exactly, it’s been awhile since I was on active duty but never heard anything about overtime pay 💰 There were reenlistment bonuses though. Also I lost 50 pounds in 16 weeks at Fort McClellan where the drill sergeants would start screaming at us to leave the mess hall because we had been in there too long. I generally hadn’t even sit down at a table yet 😉

I served in the US military from 1987 to 1991. I entered voluntarily (of course) and I am proud of my service. I'm also proud of you guys for defying that totalitarian regime. What kind of military can you have when most of your soldiers are there unwillingly? You are correct that we have a superior force. Not because we have better training, but because we have soldiers who are passionate about their training. Congratulations to you men for finding a better country to defend. To answer the question about shooting while wearing glasses, military issued glasses carry the lens at a different angle than the ones you get from a civilian doctor. You can look straight ahead through the gun sights without folding your neck like a pretzel, because the glasses aren't angled down for reading.

Navy officers don't get free food, they have to pay their own toll for eating in the wardroom.
Pretty much the opposite from the DPRK military.
@Johnston Steiner The wardroom is communal so everyone has to contribute an equal amount of funding for the whole officer echelon, and thus any single officer is unlikely to starve under that circumstance. However, I forgot the source but there seems like at least one incident occurred where the wardroom ran out of supplies (spent their money on overpriced ingredients before leaving port) at sea and the CO had to let the officers eat food from junior rates' galley.

When did they talk about technology
In case any Koreans are watching there's Boot camp/ Basic Training for recruits THEN when you complete that you are sent to advanced training regarding your MOS. Basically the job you are assigned, whether it's Infantry, Artillery, Engineers, Logistics, etc. THEN you are sent to your unit.

They should know basic English. I've heard from alot of defectors that north North Korea teaches English as a mandatory class in schools. Specifically British English because the US is at all times depicted as a monstrous dystopia

I heard one of the defectors say that he had learned some English and it was indeed British English. He also said that not everyone learned English, some people learned different languages so they could possibly utilized in other regions of the world or as interpreters in North Korea. There are a lot of allied and enemy soldiers that comment that Americans fight like rich men. The US is the first major power to have a fully mechanized military, bring their own food from home to avoid relying on foraging, and weapons tend to spray a lot more bullets.

One about aircraft carriers mentioned military exercise one was called “Team Spirit.” I am a former US Marine & spent 3 years in the Pacific. I took part in Team Spirit ‘85 in the year 1985 of course. 2 weeks at the DMZ training with ROK Marines. A little before your time. I will all the best for both of you!

As an American, I love our South Korean friends and the People of Asia as our hearts have fought with them for Freedom over the past many years. My extended family member dies at Palawani and my mother knew people that came back from the Bataan Death March.
Americans are fighting a soft war of ideology and the only tools are to show the real America to those such as yourself to react. I hope you get an opportunity to watch some of the great stories of sacrifice Americans had made in past wars such as WW2, Bosnia ETC because I think those people show how much extra my people are willing to give. The USA is a country of refugees.
I have friends whose parents/ or themselves are refugees from Iran, Vietnam, Korea, China, Venezuela, Cuba, Iraq, and other places. If the world knew more about what we really share and you can react I think it shows how much alike we are really. Thank you I enjoy your commentary very much, You guys make me smile because your so well grounded and honest :)

I've been able to look at North Korea through the DMZ and that's about it. I know from my unit that nobody thought the North Korean's were enemies, just the leadership. I hope the best for you.

Hey I would like to ask are you guys now in the south Korean military? I am new to the channel so I don't know also I am in the Marine Corps in the United States! So I wanted to stop by and say hi!
A few corrections. Only the Marines has a 3 month boot camp. the chow hall is only free if you are single and live on base in the barracks if you live off base or in family housing on base you have to pay if you want to eat at the chow hall.
I was an US Army Soldier assigned to the U.N Security BN, Joint Security Area (JSA) Panmunjom from 99'-00' and am fascinated by these videos. I always really wanted to just reach across the border and introduce myself, shake their hands and sit down and enjoy some soju and kimchi together. These videos really drive home the point that we're really not all that different.
Actually rappelling is done by all US Army recruits both male and female. I did it back in 1992 as part of basic training..
Great video, it's really important to hear from the "other side". I hope you guys are acclimating well to being in the South, and that you're able to take advantage of the many opportunities being in the "free world" can give you. Y'all forget to mention some things:
1.) veterans that are disabled from military service get monthly checks from the Government, and the amount of money you get depends on how disabled you are. Many vets get such high checks that they can live off them comfortably without needing a job, and they get them for the rest of their life.
2.) veterans are given special military discounts in several stores and restaurants that are exclusive to those who served.
3.) Depending on the state, the government will pay the college tuition for both you and your children after a certain amount of time living there. In Wisconsin, Veterans and their children who live there for 5 years are granted free collage so long as the collage they choose is in the state.
4.) on Veteran's Day, many restaurants will serve veterans free food all day.
I really want to see these two meet american veterans, I just feel like they would get along pretty well

6:50 there is also housing expenses if u live on a house on or off base, tho that is if you are married because single soldiers live in the barracks. There is also more pay if you get deployed and you get even more if you are married to compensate being away from your spouse
In the U.S. military, after basic training enlisted service members go to advanced training. In the Army, this is called Advanced Individual Training (AIT). The length of your AIT depends on your Military Occupational Specialty (MOS). The time ranges from 4 weeks to almost 2 years, depending on the complexity of the training. Only then does the soldier report to their unit - after they graduate and are qualified in their MOS. They do no not go from Basic to their unit without successfully attending their AIT school.
Edit: Also, all enlisted soldiers are trained in repelling at Basic Combat Training - certain MOS's and Units get more extensive training on that skill set.
In the U.S. officers pay for their own food at the chow hall and enlisted are provided free food.
....and rest assured - nobody in the military gets overtime pay 🤣
My husband became a US citizen by joining the Navy. We met while I was in the Army during my first contract and he was just starting his 2nd contract.
I got out after my first contract to help support his Naval career and to help raise our kids
