I built a simulator about 10 years ago and I use it primarily to practice IFR flying using old school Microsoft Flight Simulator X (that particular software is a little dated but it still works fine). I had a traditional desk chair for it at first but no actual plane I have flown has had a desk chair in the cockpit. I wanted something from an actual vehicle, so I went to the local junk yard and found a front passenger seat (the driver’s seats were all way too worn and the passenger seat is pretty much the same thing) from a 1993 Nissan Maxima for $35. I built a base for the seat out of some scraps of old lumber so that was pretty much free. It works great; I still use it to this day.

Of the many subscriptions I have on YT, GS is the channel I definitely religiously go to as soon as I see a new video from him.
His delivery of DCS is entertaining AND informative altogether. The many technical terms and lectures in military aviation can get boring fast but GS has this talent that simply prevents that. His voice over does not necessitate exaggeration. It's just calm and consistent. There's a little bit of emotion for the sake of keeping the viewer's spirits up. Kinda' like your dad trying to throw a joke at you -- and then you're laughing while his face is still serious. 😁
Also, watching him dogfight makes me worried, that we may be giving our real world adversaries too much information. I am actually scared one day that the US military (USAF and USN in particular) will come knocking to GS's door and tell him to quit making Top Gun level information in the interest of national security.
    The last part, I'm f*cking serious. 😐

Have to order the throttles ( Going to change out the slew button again) and MFG rudder pedals with dampener. Probably pick up another TM FA18 stick again. When I made the switch to VR, Going to go with a HP REVERB G2 again. Ordered some parts for my build and they should be in by this week. Going to order the gpu and cpu next week. The case I'm going with is a LIAN 216, with a Gigabyte motherboard and MSI psu. I hope to be back up and running by end of July.

Cheap stick is OK for starting, but the moment you want any refueling and the throttle axis does its own jittery thing, not to mention limited precision... then you need at least something like T.16000 and TWCS throttle - and even that will soon start to angry you with jitter.

I figured you would've had the full dynamic chair corresponding to your flights in DCS. Cool setup regardless.

my chair is a wooden folding chair. i like it fixed feets to not roll off while using the pedals.

I have a similar PC setup, would you mind sharing any visual settings you use for the best performance? Would love to know TrackIR & VR setups. Thanks for doing this video!

Also interested in his TrackIR profile. Seems smoother than default.

Yeah, for real. I don't get the head tracking unless vr is in play

@@Glumpsy I imagine the 55" monitor helps with that

@@mavrk.d I don't think they are used at the same time. I was wondering how he gets such a smooth visual experience with either setup based on the settings in DCS.

i'm late to the party, but i think you can put the base of trackir behind you and it will still work. so your screen can be even bigger

I have open track (Pc) and SmoothTrack (iPhone) and it’s been a great head tracking that only cost 10$, probably not as good as trackIR but I’ve found it’s still massively immersion building for me and of course it’s much cheaper for entry level folks

Lucky. I never got those cheap options to work well.

This maybe 2 months ago, but being interested in DCS give inspiration to challenge or try new things for a descent setup.

Me, a computer nerd, looking at the specs list for the PC: Solid...Solid. Very 'last gen' but high end last gen. Awesome specs.

Nice unpretentious setup you have there, man. Just what you need - nothing off the wall, or over the top.
