I just did this myself. The video was very helpful. Tip for getting the airbag retainer clips off. Put your cellphone in selfie mode and set it up by the gauge cluster, maybe with a flashlight. Now you can see the screwdriver tip and the airbag retainer clips. Once I did that, it was easy to see exactly what to do, where to put the screwdriver tip, and how far to push.
Thanks for this video, it inspired me to change & upgrade my steering wheel and it provided guidance in doing so. Two things I did differently though: 1) I removed the fuse for the horn (#22) located on the passenger floor kick panel, so I didn't have the horn going off if the battery was connected. 2) I released the air bag retaining clips after disconnecting the battery. You can still turn the steering wheel without the vehicle on. Just turn the key to on (to unlock the steering wheel) and pull hard left or right on the wheel, it will still turn. So I didn't need to keep power connected or start the truck to access the air bag clips. By disconnecting the battery I didn't really need to pull the fuse on the horn either, but I had already done that before disconnecting the battery. I also found it easiest to release the bottom centre clip first, then release the left & right. Starting left or right side first, the clip would always grab again when I then tried the centre one, So popping off the centre one help me get and keep the clips released. Ford part number was DC3Z3600CA (in Canada). Leather wrapped steering wheel came with the upgraded steering wheel mounted controls in it. So I didn't have to buy those separately either. Next project, finding an upgraded instrument cluster with the larger productivity screen. Impossible to find one used with similar mileage, my 2015 F250 has less than 15000 miles on it at present. Ford part guys can't get me a part number for a new instrument cluster, they can't use my VIN as it's XLT trim truck. Also to buy a new instrument cluster, some form has to filled out and filed with Ford regarding the change which then is permanently associated with the trucks VIN. Ford can set mileage on a new instrument cluster to match existing. Just having a lot of difficulty in obtaining the proper part number, the parts guys can't figure that out.
Find a 2015 Lariat for sale online with the options you want and most importantly with the same engine you have (diesel or gas) and then give the parts guys the vin off of that truck. Thats how i find a lot of parts. Pick a used truck from the classifieds that you can borrow the vin from
The shop manual on my 2011 F350 recommends to discharge the airbag by removing fuse #33 from the RCM fuse located on the passenger side kick panel. Then turn the key on and observe the airbag light being constantly lit on the instrument cluster (if the airbag light isn't lit, you pulled the wrong fuse - try again). Thank you very much for the video, I've been struggling trying to get those darned springs loose - they always pop back into place as soon as I get 'em moved. Your video is very helpful in seeing what I'm up against. Thanks
Thanks for the Great video. It took me about 30 minutes the first time. I learned a couple of things along the way. There are no alignment tabs on my 2012 f350 KR. Make sure you get the wheel aligned correctly by aligning the notch in the center of the wheel with the notch on the shaft and you don’t have to take of the bottom plastic including the 5.5mm bolts to change the wheel.
Also just to give added convenience, on the passenger side, locate the fuse panel and remove the horn fuse. Makes it easier to reinstall the airbag without your neighbors thinking you’re insane.
Great video....Only thing to add is disconnect the batteries and I mean both if diesel, pull fuse to airbag as well and wait Ford recommended time before work. I will add, if you have access to an airbag containment bag to cover steering wheel that would be recommended as well. They are Kevlar and will save you in the event of an accidental deployment so you don't meet your maker over a steering wheel replacement.
Video was super helpful on swapping the steering wheel out on my 2008. I disconnected the horns and had to catch the bottom airbag connector first, then the side 2 connectors. Thanks for the help.
Actually took it off 6 times in past few days.. Bad sccm.. Troubleshooting. Then, of all things, i put it back on straight with wheels turned...so steering was 35 degrees off. Iol. I drove to mcdonalds like that to get an once cream cone in the f550 dually 4x4 ;). What a pain driving with crooked steering wheel.
Just bought an upgraded steering wheel like what you installed for the purpose of upgraded navigation im installation im doing found a guy on here that did aftermarket navigation
In the video you recommend to disconnect the battery(ies) to pull off the airbag but then reconnected them to pull the airbag off. Did you disconnect them again when you pulled off the connections to the airbag?
Was just curious before I tackle this project, the air bag will not go off on me correct? Lol I just wanna make sure sketches me out a little bit. You mentioned something about un doing the batteries but then I seen you had to re Connect them to turn the steering wheel again. Great video looking to do this project to my lariat soon! Thanks in advance
+ben ishmael there is a chance the airbag could deploy, although unlikely. You need to go through a proper protocol of disconnecting the battery and allowing the capacitors time to discharge. You can search on Google or RUclips the proper procedure to do this
Technically no you do not. Just pry it out with a small flat blade screwdriver and unplug the switch. Plug in the new one and push it back in. Very east and takes 15 seconds

I appreciate you holding your camera so we can see everything your doing, thank you your videos are the best!
Finally a video on RUclips worth a fuck.

right right and change clock sprng with pos sensor wood bee sweet too
Great video I just changed mine and the guy talking about setting up your phone in selfie mode is correct you can see the clips to the airbag easy 👍
Also just to give added convenience, on the passenger side, locate the fuse panel and remove the horn fuse. Makes it easier to reinstall the airbag without your neighbors thinking you’re insane.
you're battery is supposed to be disconnected in the first place lol

Good tip!
This was very helpful for a clock spring replacement. Thank you
thanks for this video! I just used it to replace the steering wheel in my '11 Expedition and it was done in less than an hour. Much appreciated!
Glad it helped
Attention to detail is very necessary and highly appreciated.
I just added this part to my 2015 F250 XLT and it was a breeze to get it to work. So simple the way he laid out how to do this.
Thanks for the comment. I'm glad it worked for you. Enjoy your truck.

good stuff right here brother! made it super easy to swap out steering wheels!
Actually took it off 6 times in past few days.. Bad sccm.. Troubleshooting.

Good video. I'm getting ready to do this myself in the near future and haven't done one on this newer truck style.
Thank you.
I set a mirror on the gauges and it makes it really easy
Great video. Exactly what I needed
Better video and correct for 2016 F-250. 5 stars for the way he did the video
When putting the airbag back on put some grease on those little ramp things. Makes the clips slide much easier.
Thanks again!! Hand to tighten screw on my 2011!!!!
What was the ford part number for the leather wrapped steering wheel? Great video with excellent call outs on tools and process. Thanks
8:09 dose the up button work as SETUP and the down as REST ?
yes can you tell us please jack
Thanks, made replacing my steering wheel a breeze after 550k miles it was worn out!
Do you happen to have a link to the steering wheel that you show in this video?
Thanks. What is the steering wheel part number to get this gray leather?
Great Tips, Good Stuff 👍 Thanks!
Just bought an upgraded steering wheel like what you installed for the purpose of upgraded navigation im installation im doing found a guy on here that did aftermarket navigation
Does anyone have the torque spec for the steering wheel bolt? Also does ford say to put loc tite on it?
Haynes Manual & Ford both say not to reuse the bolt that holds the steering wheel on but the bolt they list as a replacement is a hex head bolt.
Thanks for telling information
You can use a hose pick-and-pop the clips and there's no reason to unhook the batteries unless you're beating on the crash sensor with a hammer
Ok I think it will be here tomorrow thanks
Thanks for the video,it is done well
What is the part number for the steering wheel you used??
Do you still happen to have your old wheel?? I have a 16 F650 and the wheel is massive. I’d like to swap it for a standard sized wheel.
Good vid. Thanks
Me salvaste la tarde amigo, excelente video
Thank you
Where did you order the new wheel?
From Ford dealer
Did you have to get a new airbag ? An cover for the airbag ? Does the old airbag cover match the black leather or does it look weird ?
Its matches. Did not need a new one
Do you have to remove the two covers to complete?
Not sure what covers. It's exactly as pictured in this video
Thanks a lot buddy!!!
Do you still have the buttons you pulled off? I would like to buy them from you.
In the video you recommend to disconnect the battery(ies) to pull off the airbag but then reconnected them to pull the airbag off. Did you disconnect them again when you pulled off the connections to the airbag?
You should always have battery disconnected when servicing the airbag system. Yes i had the power off
Was just curious before I tackle this project, the air bag will not go off on me correct? Lol I just wanna make sure sketches me out a little bit. You mentioned something about un doing the batteries but then I seen you had to re Connect them to turn the steering wheel again. Great video looking to do this project to my lariat soon!
