Wow 😳 good idea 👍🏻
Thank you!
What a great blend of spices, no doubt will make a delicious curry. 😋
Thanks so much!
I have just made this...its smells absolutely divine!!! Can't wait to try it tomorrow!! Thank you. ❤
Thank you and enjoy 🙌🙌
Hi, looks good, I've got a spice grinder coming, going to try making mix powder. What would you say was the weight of the powder produced from your list? I only ask as I'm interested to work out the cost of diy v store bought. I know obviously your method beats store bought hands down;-)
Hey so sorry for late reply I totally missed this message. The mixture gave around 40g of mix powder. Enjoy and thanks so much. Really appreciate it 😀
Hi from New Zealand Chef. Is there a reason why many Chefs refer to Tej Pata as Bay Leaves? I know they are Indian Bay Leaves, but are really Cinnamon Leaves, and I find the aroma and taste quite different. I feel this could be a little bit misleading to new BIR cooks especially. I am particularly interested in Northern Indian, Bangladeshi, Nepali, and Pakistani cuisines with some Parsi thrown in for good measure, (I love Mughlai Cuisine) Do you have some suggestions for me to cook that may be a little "off the wall" and more unusual than Lal Maas? Cheers!
Thank you Russ for joining me on here, great to hear about your experience and passion. As you may have seen I have loads of recipes on my channel, you may want to check out the authentic Bangladeshi curries playlist. Thanks again and look forward to hearing more from you 🙌🙌
Hi, what grinder/processor do you use. Mine has just packed up so looking to buy a new one..
Hi thanks for asking, sorry to hear that, I’ve used many over the years from nutrubullet to coffee blenders tbh, I’ve put my favourite things to have on this list, hope this helps and thank again

Many thanks for your time in putting the list together, I already use most of those things so must be doing something right..👍
Hi, can we omit the black cardomom and star anise?
Hi you sure can, it will alter the taste a bit but still gives great flavours 🙌🙌
I have a small “Coffee” style electric spice grinder.
I’m sure a cinnamon stick would damage it.
Are you using Cassia bark (chinese) or proper cinnamon stick?
What do you suggest?
Hey thanks for asking, I used cinnamon sticks, what you can do is break it down into small pieces (using a mortar and pestle, or with something heavy) before placing on the grinder. Hope this helps and enjoy the recipe. 😀
Making this today only ingredient I'm missing is star anise just gonna have to clean myself a new jar out 😅 thanks for sharing chef think I'll label it Bengali masala.
Nice one pal!
@@TheBengaliCook This really is a nice balanced blend I think the black cardamom lends a lot gives a nice smokey note
@@royalnag6690 cheers bud, just made a chicken Bhuna Jalfrezi with potato wedges...check out picture on my feed!

Thanks so much 🙌🙌
I'm making a daal today. Would it be good in daal or is it more for "main course" curries? Also just wondering, am I right in thinking you just add a tsp in addition to all the other spices in the recipe? Thank you.
Thanks for asking, depends the type of Daal you want make, if you make, most common one like Tarka daal then just adding turmeric powder is sufficient, there’s a video in my playlist that shows you. If you want to make daal curry type dish, then you can add this spice blend to it.
If you are making a standard BIR portion, then a tsp along with chilli powder, etc would be ok. Thanks.
@@TheBengaliCook Thanks so much. It's a daal bhuna that I generally make so it sounds like I should miss it out thank you. Will just have to make something else to use your lovely mix powder. Any excuse 😃

This is the link to couple of daal recipes, these were my first videos so do excuse the editing lol. Hopefully this will give you some more ideas 🙌
@@TheBengaliCook thanks so much. Am confused as to the difference between a daal and a daal curry so will definitely check these out. Thank you!😀
Thanks very much 👍
The only thing I struggle with are my rotis.😞
Don't know what I'm doing wrong. Never nice and soft like the bought ones.
Don't know if I make them too thick or cook them too long.
Are you cooking on gas or electric?
Here’s a how make roti/chapati recipe. Hope this helps. Let me know how you get on and we’ll see how we can help you further

@@royalnag6690 gas. Even bought a tawa.
@@TheBengaliCook yeah I saw that after I posted.
I'll try and cook along with it.
Roughly how long do you get them for? I think this might be my problem tbh.
@@The_Oracle_of_time cheers, can I ask what mean/referring to ‘roughly how long to do you get them for’? Thanks
What's name of your grinder? My old one couldn't handle dried chili. And ones on Amazon are 50+ in price.i want it for vindaloo paste as well. Will be trying your family Madras in a week or two.
Cheers!
Hey I used a nutribullet, it’s become an all rounder blender. Check out Asda, I heard this is good he and also worth it for £10. Lots of good reviews etc hope this helps and enjoy the Family Madras 😀
