Excellent video. I wanted these amplifiers so bad back in the day but they cost more than my car at the time. Polished stainless steel with the brass screen…beautiful! Still one of the coolest style/designs around

... You really pulled on some heart strings with this video... Thank you, Sir.
You started with the mention of U.S. Amps. I collected some trophies with these as well as MATTS. Sound quality.
Prior to those came the four 2350DM's powering a Cerwin Vega real deal Stroker. One amp, one sub. For Strokers, four amps.
Next up you showed an input panel close up of a JP34ab... OMG!!! I will have two of those arriving next week😁❤️💕😁
On to the XTANT. You really did not drive the point into your viewers heads that all of the options that were available as plug in daughter boards are what is available today out of box from any decent quality amp.
Back in the day this was a one box option that covered all those boxes and rca's we had to deal with.
At the time the concept was greatly MISUNDERSTOOD!!!
The other amplifier manufacturer that was also misunderstood was BLADE.
I haven't finished watching the video yet but I'm very curious to see what your opinion is of the sound quality😁, even though it is a sub amp...
    !!!THANK YOU CHRIS St. AUBIN!!!

I remember back in the day when Xtant amplifiers first hit the market. They were the hot ticket for the SQ guys. I did a full build using Xtant amps and jail audio speakers in a 96 f150 extended cab. It was a stealth install everything folded up in the back seat. The back of the seat was the amp rack the bottom of the seat was the subwoofer box with two down firing 10-in JL audio subs. When the seats were folded up you couldn't tell there was anything installed. It looked like a factory finish seat. Thanks Big D enjoyed the video it brought me back to the day.

When I had to bench test Xtant amplifiers for my reviews here in Australia in the late '90s the jumper system controlled input sensitivity was a real headache. I had to juggle input voltage to the power supply (via a variac) to get 12 or 14.4V and simultaneously monitor the waveform on the oscope along with the AC voltage on the meter connected to the outputs. Man that was tricky - especially pon the 4-channel! I also remember these amplifiers clipping pretty harshly on the waveform compared to other amplifiers. I was introduced to Jeff Scoon by Mitek owner Lloyd Ivey while at MTX Arizona in Jan 1998. Lovely guy. Xtant stuff certainly was cool and unique back in the day. Nice one Big-D.

Thanks big d wiz I always wanted to see an xtant amplifier on the dyno!
I wonder obviously the designers are really intelligent people,so why the power inputs so close? And the fork style connectors do they come in heavy duty styles?
    God bless y’all!

Had an Xtant 4180 back in the day. Really clean sounding and plenty of power, but having to remove the cover to make any adjustments was a bit of a pain. While it was purdy as heck, it was more complicated than I preferred. Unfortunately, my whole system was stolen. But with my Xtant 4ch gone, it gave me reason to reinstall my Zapco, which I still have to this day. Between the 2 brands, I ultimately prefer Zapco (the Z series).

Buddy had one of these on 3 JL W6 12" when it came out. Very powerful amp at the time. We tried very low ohm connection by adding a box with a couple of 10" subs that we were putting in his GF's car to see what they sounded like added to the 12's. It didn't complain and put out more power as the 12's were moving more with the 10's hooked up than without. Not sure now that it was the smartest thing to do but at the time people were saying that they were like the old cheaters and would handle it. Don't know if that was ever true but we figured it wouldn't hurt to try.

While they can make very similar power across different loads, one parameter that can't be overcome is that as the impedence lowers so does the damping factor. When Xtant was merged with MTX later, this amp would become the 8100d, or the 1501d, can't remember wich one.

I knew that MTX had something to with Xtant...
My MTX Thunder 7801 sub amp advertises "Xtant Technologies Cooling" on the top cover of the amp, and inside it has a large pyramid shaped heat sink with 2 fans on top that pull air through the sink. Sort of like the amp in the video, except that the air-flow is drawn in through each side, and exits through the top of the heat sink.
MTX must have also had something to do with StreetWires, because it says "Connections by StreetWires" on the cover also.

These amps were clearly not intended for amateurs. All those modules were sale oppurtunities for the dealers. Pulling off the case to wire it or install modules just invites problems if home gamers were the target customers. I’m curious to see if the warranty mandated professional installation.

I'm glad the trend of amps having modules, crossover cards and such didn't last. Was not a big fan of being sold add-ons that are required to make your brand new amp work. Another downside is this: try getting a different module to change the crossover filter frequency for that amp nowadays.
