    Here is the message she sent me about how she sharpened my knife:
    Edge is 14.4 degrees per side, finished at 5k metallic bonded CBN plates, strop to deburr completely two passes per side on 1UM CBN emulsion on horse butt leather and finished two passes per side on .5UM CBN emulsion on nanocloth.
    It's mostly gibberish to me, but she knows what she's talking about!! And the results speak for themselves. It's the sharpest knife I own now.

    And yeah the reason I didn't sharpen all that out to dead matching on both sides I would have to remove 2-3 times as much steel. To get it dead matching we would have thickened up the BTE thickness probably 2 to 3 thousandths it's a much better idea to split the difference and match it up over 1 or two more sharpenings and not waste all that steel.

      @Doody’s Daggers hey bro keep in mind that this steel can be used and abused then stropped right back to amazing sharpness many many times over also if that beautiful edge does go dull which that's going to be an arduous task but eventually you can always have it sharpened again just as easily and I'm sure by then she will have improved her sharpening skills and abrasive arsenal a bit as well

  • @nolanh9659

    Lacy's freehand sharpening is amazing! I'm hit and miss on freehand. I use a guided system with a digital angle gauge and diamond stones. After that I freehand hone on a paper wheel with white compound, then a paper wheel with .5 micron diamond paste. With this method, I was able to reprofile a maxament pm2 (had non-symmetrical edges) and sharpen my 15v pm2 as well as many other lesser steels. The maxament and 15v easily can push cut paper and whittle coarse hair ( takes a few tries) at 17 degrees per side. A professional could get it sharper, but for an amateur, I'm pleased. I'm guessing, if your sharpening game has an additional digital gauge, diamond stones, and paper wheel honing you will be a happy camper.

      Very nice, sounds like you know what you’re doing! I use a fixed angle sharpener too. And a strop. I’d love to learn to freehand though. I always say that, I gotta get some stones and start

    Instead of modifying the spring just open the knife halfway to where it is fully compressing the spring and leave it sit like that for 24hrs and it seems to very minutely smooth out the action and loosen the tension then if you want it looser then go longer but yeah it definitely does work...

    I have a few knives that need a little work. Will likely send them to Legacy Edgeworks. Some need a good sharpening, others a complete spa treatment. I'd like to try 15V. Just need it on a knife that I want. Not interested in another Shaman, I have two, or the PM2, I have four. If Spyderco offered it on a Yojimbo, I'd pay a premium. Same goes for any platform in the Native line and the Military. Would pay a premium for a 15V Endela, too. BTW, the edge on your Manix 2 looks killer.
    FWIW, I hated the lock on my S110V G10 Manix 2. Way too stiff. So I used a .162 pin to compress the spring. Fit perfectly. Worked the knife for an hour or so every day and put the pin back in. This took about a week. The result was worth it. Almost a night and day difference. Much better than it was. I carry it now.
    I'm stropping with Gunny Juice. Not cheap, but worth it. Wouldn't mind trying another product just to see.

    • @doodysdaggers
      @doodysdaggers  Год назад +1

      Interesting, maybe I’ll try that method. I do think the spring is a little stiff. Did you ever try a ceramic ball?
      Shit dude a Yojimbo 15V would be so awesome.. I’d get one.

    Looks stupid crazy sharp.
    What was her fee to sharpen?
    I’d leave the spring alone. It’s going to become less “springy” as you use it.
    If you clip off 2 rings, how weak will it become after wearing in. Or, get a backup spring to have on hand.

    • @doodysdaggers
      @doodysdaggers  Год назад

      Good point. Yeah I’m not going to mess with the spring.
      She charged me around $45 plus shipping. Depending on how much polish you want and what she’s doing to it, that could change.
      It’s really a fantastic deal

  • @kevinAuman1
    @kevinAuman1 Год назад +1

    Must be mine was a unicorn then because mine is literally perfect, then again it could have something to do with how I acquired it also because this knife was set aside by the owner of a unnamed knife retailer and then I sent him a msg inquiring why I never got a notification when they dropped as I legit set to be notified from every authorized Spydie dealer when they dropped and didn't get not ONE notification! Luckily that person is a freaking Saint and he sold it to me and no joke it is 100% perfect straight out of the box, centered no play and bevels are both at 17.5deg by my measure...

    • @doodysdaggers
      @doodysdaggers  Год назад +1

      Wow you got lucky!! Probably the only one ever made that was perfect 😂

    • @kevinAuman1
      @kevinAuman1 Год назад

      @Doody’s Daggers well when you own as large of a knife shop as this person does then you have the ability to hand pick yourself the best example which was what had happened in my case but he then sold it to me anyway so yeah... 🤷

    • @kevinAuman1
      @kevinAuman1 Год назад

      @Doody’s Daggers I will say that it felt abnormally tight when i first got it but it was below zero deg here and it sat out in my foyer for most of the day before I was able to get it and the action was really super tight but with a little dawn dishsoap a soft toothbrush and piping hot water I washed out any grease added in seki then I put my own pivot lube (sentry tuff glide) and it got a little better but even abusively swinging it lock to backstop while holding the detent ball didn't force a break-in so I loosened the pivot juuuuust a 🍑-hair and added more lube then worked it in and she finally became drop shutty and free swinging but of the hundreds of spydies I own this was the tightest out if box action id received otherwise as I said she is literally perfectly centered and though I worked the action a bit myself it still has zero play or anything but I eventually may clip the spring one ring and see how that does add some custom AWT scales and a ceramic detent ball then she will be smooth as it gets and one badass blade but then again if I got the only perfect example then maybe I shouldn't modify it at all lol-ol-ol it could be worth a bundle on ebay 🤷‍♂️🤣🤣🤣 (kidding I use my knives) not the type to buy up half dozen mules at 50ea then sell them for $2-300 a piece on ebay I hate that tbh and bid snipers I was literally winning 4 auctions the other day for knives and with less than 2sec remaining I get outbid even though I had max bid way above the current bid and had no time at all to raise my max grrr all four sold! But I guess some people that is their livelihood and they profit from sniping good knives at low prices and resell them for ridiculously and unreasonable prices taking them away from real knife-nuttz like us 😕

    I sharpen knives for people quite frequently. So I am in no way knocking you down for sending this to be sharpened. I would be curious to know why you did not sharpen this yourself.

    • @doodysdaggers
      @doodysdaggers  Год назад +1

      Since the bevels were super uneven side to side (one was much wider than the other side, and down at the nub it dipped in weirdly) I wanted it to be sharpened by hand so they could even them out side to side. I use a fixed angle system, so it would have been a lot of adjusting the angle to get it even. I figured it would just be better to have it done by hand my a pro.

    • @SpartanJohns
      @SpartanJohns Год назад

      @@doodysdaggers so the grind is uneven? Man! That sucks big time! I tried to get a 15V Manix but they were gone sooner than they appeared, and i live in Europe...so no luck.
      It really sucks that even with suck models they have these issues. I recently got a k390 Stretch 2 with an uneven(asymetrical) grind, a Cruwear PM2...same thing...
      That sucks but now it looks pretty good. I hope you will like the steel and enjoy using it

    • @doodysdaggers
      @doodysdaggers  Год назад

      @@SpartanJohns yeah it totally sucks! And I’m almost positive their blades are sharpened by a machine, so you’d think it would be perfect. 🤷🏻‍♂️
      But I got the bevels fixed and oh boy, I absolutely love it! This 15V is great, although I have a few rust spots now. Doesn’t bother me though. The edge gets extremely sticky sharp and holds a bitey edge for longer than you’d expect
      I hope you can get your hands on some!

    • @SpartanJohns
      @SpartanJohns Год назад

      @@doodysdaggers I hope that people love 15V enough so that Spyderco will make more runs/models. They have the Shaman and PM2 along with the Manix.
      Their whole process is automated so I think that the grinds are 100% done by machines. The sharpening might be done by machine too...not sure. For the "more exotic steels" i noticed that lately they did reduce the grind thickness a bit and gave us better factory edges. K390, M4, S110V and Maxamet all came with very sharp edges. Shaving sharp. Some models they still neglect....my siren had an awful edge, I sharpened a couple PM2 in S45VN with bad factory edges...Bought a Para3 for my wife and it came with a crappy edge and asymmetrical grind. So I am thinking that the final sharpening process must be, at least partially, done by hand. And QC has gone down the drain with a lot of companies lately.
      Glad you like 15V so far.
