    Maybe I’m used to it because I had the shaman before a PM2, but moving my finger before the nub hits isn’t a big deal to me. Although I do agree the PM2 is much less cumbersome to carry & manipulate. It’s much more nimble & agile. The stock shaman g10 scales are so slick I feel like I’m close to dropping it whenever I close it.

      @@NocturneKnives I’ve only been collecting knives for less than a year, and the Spyderco Para Military 2 was my 2nd purchase. First was an Emerson CQC-15. Both awesome knives. The CQC-15 has the fastest deployment of any knife I’ve ever handled, including switchblades. Currently my #1 is the WE Shuddan in Damasteel. I had to blow three months’ budget on that one, but it was worth it. The only gripe I have for my Shuddan is the frame lock could be more easily accessible. It’s not difficult to work or anything, but there’s no cut-out to provide easy access, so it takes a bit of pressure unless you hold the knife just right. Otherwise, it’s an awesome beast of a knife. The action is something close to magic. It’s so fast when you break the detent, it seems that the blade just suddenly appears. Thinner side to side than I expected, and feels great in my hand. Thanks for doing videos like this. I also watched your tests for the PM2 in M4. That is a workhorse. My only blade with M4 is my Benchmade Freek.

    Take a dremel to the nub. Use a cut-off wheel to remove most of it, then a sanding drum to make it look perfect. Then take the sanding drum to the corners of the jimping. Before I did those two tweaks, I didn't like my Shaman. After those two tweaks, my Shaman competes with my PM2s for pocket time.

    Your action isn't broken in yet. I wouldn't be happy with it either. It will get there in time... Should fall shut with gravity when comp lock pushed. Contouring is amazing. Spyderco should contour everything. Nub is only an issue for first month or so of carry. You learn it and it becomes muscle memory, don't even think about it anymore. Did a nub delete on my first shaman, now I wish i hadn't. Jimping is sharp, yes. Had many jeans destroyed by them. Another issue - too thick bte. Overall it's my top choice for a work knife, but not my choice for edc type carry at all.

    I get you though, if you're not in love with it, I get it. The issues with "the nub" and jimping; your knife shouldn't injure the user or cause excessive wear on your clothing. These issues would make this a no-go for me as well, but att least it's going to a new home.

    Seriously man-uppp! If a manly knife hurts your feelings then maybe you are right not to carry or own one but I sure love mine personally and cannot waaait for the BigBrownBear 15V version to be released as I already got the 15V manix and just Wowww now this is steel lol this 15V and the M398 mule are levels of edge retention that are quite possibly reaching that "never need sharpened" level between the two id pick the 15V because it takes a crisper edge and seems to easily strop to an edge you are scared to touch your skin with because it will bite you and bite deep... Super stoked that Spyderco takes the time to experiment with such nearly impossible to grind steels to appease us knife-nuttz and to run them as a production model with a custom heat treatment protocol up to 65-66HRC no other knife company is doing that other than custom makers lol

    • @NocturneKnives
      @NocturneKnives  Год назад

      Ah yes, that's great advice! If I have a problem with some design feature, just ignore it! Why didn't I think of that?
      It's interesting that the BBB version you mention wanting actually has a stone wash, which as I mentioned in my video would almost completely solve the jimping issue... Have you ever handled one of the satin versions?? That top jimp is unexcusable in terms of sharpness. And it's not even mostly about hand comfort, it actually makes it difficult to get in pocket and I think would tear your pocket to shreds

      The Shaman *can* be front flipped, but that does not make it a front flipper. It's very awkward and uncomfortable to front flip, and the jimping on this satin version is so sharp it really starts to cut into your finger after a few attempts. funny how you were complaining about the "nub" but like three closings in a row, it fell right into place, and if you wanted a less "sharp" jimping, you should have gotten the stonewashed... that knocks down the "sharpness" on the blade, especially in teh spidey hole - where on the PM2, in satin - it's nearly cut my middle finger pad. I have both, and would not sell either - both amazing...

The constant flicking was seriously distracting my attention from the very valid points you were trying to make. I think I can slightly mod mine to eliminate the problem areas you mentioned without too much trouble - though I'll lose the DLC in those areas.

    Way overpriced knives. Simple sandpaper could fix ever problem you claim. The shaman is a much better blade design for real use. The PM 2 used to love. Now that they want ridiculous prices for a knife that should cost $110.
    Think of this how can a Chinese company make a PM2 for $20 and still make money?
    First hear me out!
    The clone has unknown blade steel , and cheap screws. Yet the clone has G10 some have 9cr18mov.
    Now when spyderco was asking reasonable prices I didn’t think twice about a clone. Yet $170 or more because they have a different steel is insane.
    Have you noticed nobody is doing edge retention anymore. Mostly because there isn’t that much difference to warrant the high prices.
    I used to be one of those people brand and super steel. My grandfathers were both machinists. They told me I was being sucked then proved it to me. Both are gone now.
    I personally really like the shaman I just can’t justify the price. I have a pm2 and a clone pm2 . I use the clone more. It’s easy to sharpen and gets hair popping sharp easy. My other knife I abuse is a native 5 G10 in s35vn. It was a gift and I’ve never seen another knife like it. It is the most comfortable and best cutter I have.
    I also don’t understand wanting to fidget with a knife. I prefer lockback knives. Really I always have a coldsteel tri-ad on me. If I’m not carrying the broken skull in xhp I carry the native 5 that’s over 6 years old.
    Oh forgot to say the PM 2 a good design but the thin point really makes it a light to medium use. The broken skull is lighter more cutting area just a amazing knife that cost $50 when it was new.
    Anyway after all my ranting you’ll believe whatever your friends tell you. My advice don’t sell your shaman it’s a better knife if (God forbid) something happens. Better to have that thick drop point.

    • @NocturneKnives
      @NocturneKnives  Год назад

      If you watched my entire video, you would know I openly said it would be easy to mod the Shaman to get mostly fix the issues I mentioned. I personally prefer a thinner blade though, I'm not doing hard use.
      As far as costs go, there's so much more than material cost. You have R&D costs, higher build quality, a company that actually treats their employees well, and spyderco is well known for producing the best heat treatment in the production realm currently. Your ranting aside, I'll believe what the evidence says, both from my own use and comprehensive testing. And fwiw I already sold my Shaman, I prefer the PM2. Again, if you'd watched the entire video, you would know that.
      Anyway, thanks for watching 🙏 (even if it was only part of it)

You don’t need endless money to engage in a hobby. You need time. Looks like you have time. A knife you might like now might be your favorite knife a few years down the road. Then you’re buying it again and spending more money. Makes no sense. Also some knives arent for using. Such as most William henry knives. They are for special occasions. I have knives just for holidays. I have 4 or five of the same knives just because if I have them then someone else doesn’t. That’s why I buy striders when I see striders. I’ve been collecting for going on 15 years now. Some of my knives took me multiple payments to purchase. My 3500 dollar strider sng took me 4 months to pay off. But now I have it and someone else doesn’t have the chance. It’s perfect. This is why I have multiples. I have a closet just for my copies. One of the knives I almost sold (because I was being stupid) was a pm2 tanto exclusive through bhq. Well it didn’t have any branding on it. I hated that idea. But the more I thought about it I realized that I haves the only one of its kind. I called bhq and complained and they returned 100 to my card. So I got a one of a kind for 100 off.

Waiting isn't really an option because there are always new interesting knives coming out at too fast a pace just to patiently acquire. It's nice that you have the ability and funds to buy without having to sell any; I'm happy to hear it.
      Your bowl/fork/spoon comparison doesn't really hold water, but regardless: I do have lots of knives in different shapes for different purposes. But I simply can't keep every single one.
