Enjoying the vid Phil. I ordered this box set and I am yet to get to it. Love the size of the box housing. I really do miss LP box set size. We got it at a good price. There used to be a Stoner down in Moseley village (One amongst hundreds ) who was nuts on Little Feat. He was always pestering me about some Bootleg tapes of Little Feat.
This one is up there with the greatest live albums and the additional concerts just add to their excellence as performing musicians. In the early seventies back in the UK they were like this legendary band that only Americans got to see. Until, I think, TheOld Grey Whistle Test did the honors when they finally toured the UK in 1975(?). I was hooked from then on:-) Never saw them back in the day with Lowell but did catch them 13 or 14 years ago in a park on a warm summer's evening in Malmö, Sweden. They were outstanding and it remains one of my favorite gigs. The joy and brilliance in their playing...Wow!
I knew you'd love this Phil, I've been a fan of 'The Feat' since I heard Dixie Chicken back in the 70's and found out that most of the band appeared on Robert Palmers' early albums, I have to say that 'Day At The Dog Races' which you mentioned is my favourite track from the whole box but the set is absolutely amazing from start to finish! Keep Rocking!
And through his British ethos (best word I can think of) Phil creates another video that we all enjoy. For him I'm guessing "Making another video, it's a walk in the park!" For us it's fantastic visuals like artists seeing the Mona Lisa. Okay hyperbole aside I think we are all very appreciative of just the sheer amount if great content Phil provides. So for that, as usual, thank you veey much for this. Rock on, Nick
@NowSpinningMagazine. Sorry that I'm a bit late to the party Phil, but here goes..... Thank you for sharing this with us. "Waiting For Columbus" is a fine live album from probably the greatest jam band to walk this planet. Just to pick up your comment about "Day At The Dog Races" (DATDR). I went to two of the shows at The Rainbow, London in August 1977. Little Feat played Monday 1st through to Thursday 4th (4 shows) and I saw the Tuesday and Thursday gigs. Lowell George would leave the stage for DATDR - leaving the rest of the band to get on with it! I vaguely remember reading an interview with Lowell where he said something like "That tune (DATDR) is the very antithesis of what Little Feat are all about". Lowell was none too pleased, but while his standing in the band was on the decline Bill Payne and Paul Barrere with Ken Gradney, Richie Hayward and Sam Clayton were finding their own way. I did get to see Mick Taylor of The Rolling Stones guest on guitar on "Apolitical Blues" during the Thursday night show. If you really want to hear Little Feat at their very very best live, try to get a listen to a bootleg album called "Electrif Lycanthrope". Go down the rabbit hole sir, you will not be disappointed. There is a strong rumour that Lowell George himself tweaked the tapes for the original vinyl pressing in 1974/75. And since the band called an amnesty on bootlegs some 10 years ago, many more of these recordings are now available, e.g. "Aurora Backseat" ( Santa Monica Civic Theatre 1973? Messrs. Barrere, Gradney and Clayton had just joined the band), "Rampant Synchopatio" (1975 while touring The Last Record Album), "Beak Positive" ( possibly 1975 - as part of The Warner Bros. Music Show tour with The Doobies/Montrose/Tower Of Power etc. - as it's a very short performance). Sorry for the long post, and thanks again for bringing Little Feat to the fore. You and yours stay safe and well.
So I did a price search for the Rad Gumbo set. Discogs has it £115 and USD 99 Ebay has it $150 USD. I like doing the price check for people to give a sense of the cost.
Hi Phil ,very good band records perfect and good musicians and Lowell George what else ?!
