Le Studio was not even 30 minutes away from where I live in lower Laurantide up here in Quebec Canada. The video is a blend between the album studio recording session and a real TV video shot. You can see the different camera plans from real studio and video. This 3 mans band, a masterpiece in It"s whole style.
RUSH IS: Geddy Lee: Bass guitars, Oberheim polyphonic; OB-X; Mini-Moog; and Taurus pedal Synthesizers, vocals Alex Lifeson: Six and twelve string electric and acoustic guitars, Taurus pedals Neil Peart: Drum kit, timbales, gong bass drums, orchestra bells, glockenspiel, wind chimes, bell tree, crotales, cowbells, triangles, plywood, tympani, and Symphonic Chimes
RusH was composed of 3 compulsive perfectionist, and genuine good people that do not have any ego trips that have lead to the demise of many successful bands. Truly GREAT musicians that are also truly great friends.... Resulting in some of the cleanest, tightest most amazing music ever made.
This whole album, "Moving Pictures" is a masterpiece. Literally every track is worth your consideration. Scary to think this was released 41 years ago. RIP Neil.. You are sorely missed.
“their own collective solo”. EXACTLY! You have to listen to a Rush song 5 times. Concentrate on the; 1. The Bass 2. The Drums 3. The Guitar 4. The Lyrics Then listen to; 5. All 4 combined.
I've probably watched every Tom Sawyer reaction video that's on RUclips, and you are the first person to actually understand the literary significance of the song's name. It's nice to see that at least one person on the internet did their homework in school.
One of my best friendships was from me humming the song "Countdown" while playing chess with a workmate on a break outside in Vegas in '98. She recognized it and started singing it which nearly shocked me, especially since they certainly don't have a reputation of many female fans. We became instant friends. We shared in Neil's passing even though I now live in Omaha, NE. And now I lost her last June, the most devastating loss outside of family I've had to experience. RIP Colleen. Say hi to Neil if you can. Miss you so much.
Wow Aileen, thanks for getting to this classic by Rush. Really loved your reaction. Can't wait to see more Rush on the channel. So many great tracks to recommend, you can't go wrong with any of the following: YYZ Live in Rio Working Man Live in Cleveland Limelight The Spirit of Radio Xanadu Live 1981 Exit Stage Left tour Freewill Jacob's Ladder many many more but that is a start.
My favorite band of all time!!! My best friend and I would play Time Stand Still over and over in the summer of 94. He sadly passed away in 2006. But I still play that song and remember him.
this video was filmed at le studio near from where i was born. it was a mythical recording studio north of montreal. neil peart had a log cabin in this area up until his death. it was his favorite place.
Fun story... In the documentary Beyond the Limelight about Rush, at one point Geddy and Alex are in a little restaurant and the waitress walks up and asks "Aren't you Geddy Lee?" he says yes. She asks for his autograph, and Geddy asks her "Do you want his autograph as well?" referring to Alex, and she says sure... clearly not knowing who Alex is. Alex starts going off about how cool it is to be sitting next to the famous Geddy Lee. But in a way that clearly says he's giving Geddy a hard time and not that he's actually jealous or anything. Alex and Geddy had been friends since high school. Alex is one of the greatest guitar players ever, he just had the fortune of playing with Geddy Lee and Neil Peart... Who are both GOATs with their instruments, and so they tended to outshine him. But Alex never seemed to care, he enjoyed making music with his best friends too much to worry about the rock star life and fame and the rest. If you're ever looking for something fun to watch I recommend the documentary a great deal, you get to see people like Dave Grohl go on about how amazing Neil truly was. Another fun bit is the end where they try to play Tom Sawyer on Rock Band (the video game) and get booed off the stage... just before they go onto a real stage and play the song for real.
Your reaction was great......it reminded me of when I first heard it....40 years ago!! I was in Tottenham Court Road in London and heard it playing in a pub, some record company dude had got a copy days before the Album was released and he wanted to play it. The pub was rocking... been mesmerised since....Moving Pictures is an absolute classic album. Three geniuses at the peak of their creativity.....genuine masters of their art. Xanadu live 1981 from Exit Stage Left.....you'll never be the same again after watching it!!!@
Neil Peart was the best percussionist this world has seen to date!! All the others that came after him learned from him, he was called "The Professor " . I was so saddened to hear of his passing, we lost a legend for sure!!
RUSH - THE Greatest Canadian Band, ever...and there is some thick competition. As far as the Greatest Rock Band ever, on the Planet, they are certainly in the runnings. Geddy sings, plays bass, keyboards, and other instruments.
I got goose bumps watching your reaction Aileen. This was before Auto Tune, looped samples. If you look up this song live on the Rush R30 Tour, they duplicate everything you heard here but live and they are much older like me lol and frankly it has even more power live. The drummer, Neal Peart, is considered one of the best rock drummers ever and his passing was so sad but he left a legacy of musicianship that it's so good to see people like you acknowledge. You have a great energy and acceptance of genuine talent and musicianship.
"...it just shows you that they really, really care." That absolutely made my heart leap and I choked up there. I, like so many Rush fans, have been with them for so, so long and we absolutely know that to be true. And it is so very seldom that it is voiced in that way to someone so new to their music as yourself here in this video. After losing Neil, and consequetially the band, our hearts are still quite raw from the reality that life, as it does has left us. You are an incredibly beautiful soul and we all wish the best for you. Maybe one day we might become fans of your music as well, as you might take some of the influence that you have gleened from this amazing experience that is, was Rush. Shanti...
YYZ Live In Rio: a really powerful bass riff, an insane drum kit, and 40,000 fans singing along to an instrumental piece; guaranteed to blow your mind!! 🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁 🎸 🔥 🔥 🔥
I saw Rush 5 times live - they are just simply powerful on stage. You swear there has to be 2 or 3 others offstage playing because there is no way 3 guys should be able to make all that sound. The highlight of any Rush show is the drum solo - every Rush fan should agree hands down that Neil (RIP Professor) was just magic. The old saying is - If Neil Peart isn't your favorite drummer, he is your favorite drummers favorite drummer. He has a solo here on the tube from a show in Frankfurt - you should check that out to get the appeal and the admiration fans have for him.
as a Canadian, saw them live every time i could, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, etc...every where they would be in driving distances, meaning less then 24 hours..i would be there...The video you just watched was made 5 minutes away from my new house at Le Studio Morin Heights, Québec...icon place in the 80 and 90 for recording, The Police, Sting, David Bowie, The Bee Gees, Cat Stevens, etc......and Neil had a house not far from mine....i was raised on Rush and will die on Rush...thanks for reacting to amazing music and spreading the good stuff...love love. your reactions...honest, true and felt...
Great reaction on the greatest band of all time! Xanadu live on Exit Stage Left shows them playing this masterpiece live in their prime. I was lucky enough to see them live 5 times in the 80s. They blew me away each time. Words can’t explain the level these guys achieved.
With Rush it's the same as with Babymetal: Do em live! Imagine Geddy playing Bass while singing and playing keys with his feet at the same time, one of the best drummers of all time and a guitarist so special and with so much feel (plus Alex sometimes plays Bass pedals, especially when Geddy is on the keyboard and cant play bass). Three people that sound like 5 or more...PLEASE do them live. Greets from Germany and Rock On !
Iconic song. Aileen made an iconic and perhaps even a spiritual statement describing their play as "collective chaos". Didn't think it sounded like chaos because the timing and rhythm of everything is so precise, but there is a chaotic element in there. Rush was one of many bands of the 70s and 80s that my friends and I liked, but in retrospect, I've discovered that Rush was one of the most innovative and technical bands of that iconic era. I can hear the echoes of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Jimmy Hendrix in their style and sound, especially with Alex Lifeson's guitar.
RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR! With heart felt admiration and sincerity! Gary
For a fantastic demo of how incredibly tight this trio was musically and as performers: YYZ (pronounced Zed!) Live in Rio, for a masterclass by The Professor, Neil Peart, his drum solo in Frankfurt (remembering always that his solos were mid-concert.. he played hard before AND after... just truly amazing!)
It's Amazing that they show you in the video that Geddy Lee is the Lead Singer, Bassist and the Keyboardist (Even in live shows). Neil Peart (drummer) also writes all the lyrics. To see his full kit, check out his 9 minute live drum solo Live in Germany,
Been a RUSH fanatic since 1978. I have seen them 19 times live throughout the 80's, 90's and into the early 2000's. Favorite 70's album: 2112. Favorite 80's album: Grace Under Pressure.
@@ImTheSlime2112 I really LOVE Grace Under Pressure! One of my early 80's RUSH favorite albums, along with, yes, Signals! Hell, I even really dig, big time, Power Windows!
Go back a few years with this group if you want to hear pure prog and raw hard bluesy rock at its best. “By-Tor and the Snowdog” is the ultimate Rush fan classic. A wild ride!
So glad you made mention to the Neil "The Professor". To see his ability simply watch/listen to any drum solo he's done. Two to start with: All the World's a Stage ( live album) and live at Frankfurt (You Tube). Enjoy.
Hi Aileen. It is always awesome to hear the younger generation enjoy the music we loved growing up. With that being said, there are so many Rush songs you could dive into. From the early years, "Fly By Night" or "Working Man." Then there is "Red Barchetta" off Moving Pictures. Side one of 2112. Or move forward to "Driven" on Test for Echo. "Red Sector A" comes to mind as well. Subdivisions off Signals.
loved your great reaction to POLYPHIA-EGO DEATH feat STEVE VAI official music video, it's got to be the best music video of 2022. best wishes from the north east coast of England.
Anyone in here that was around when this album came out in the early 80’s knows the impact of this. We got to feel this music back then and the 80’s era that surrounded us. Thank you rush. Hearing this brings back good memories of that time
I watched your body movement and when you started moving your hands I could see that you were really getting in I'm 59 and saw them many times in concert, always a good concert.
Probably their most Commercial hit, but a CLASSIC, TIMELESS TO ME!!! MY FAVORITE RUSH SONG, but they have so much more, great band, Neil passed away from Brain Cancer last year I think, sad 😔 😟 🙁 😥
RusH was composed of 3 compulsive perfectionist, and genuine good people that do not have any ego trips that have lead to the demise of many successful bands. Truly GREAT musicians that are also truly great friends.... Resulting in some of the cleanest, tightest most amazing music ever made.
You talked about reciprocal vicarious enjoyment and I think that is going to be a big topic in the information world! I am also glad that someone who has changed their life/business plan to do "content" is having a good time and responsive. That is something TV and movie executives should really watch, I think it is big!
As an almost-60 year old who was in high school when this came out, it makes me feel really good to see young people discover songs like this, and show them respect like this. And I’ll just add the Neil Peart is your favorite drummer’s favorite drummer, or maybe number two after Buddy Rich.
When you asked about seeing Rush live and what performances were favorites, when Rush first started touring, they actually opened for Kiss, and something they learned from Kiss was to put everything they had into their concerts. My very first rock concert wast Rush on their "A Farewell to Kings Tour" back in 1976 or 77, and after every concert, the people in the audience were exhausted and exhilarated from their performance. They were so amazing live, and they were truly fantastic. Over the years, I saw them between 20 & 25 times, with the last show being their R-40 show in 2015. They were amazing and while they are greatly missed, thankfully they recorded many of their tours, and you can see for yourself just how incredible they were on stage. I also noticed that you seem to really enjoy heavier songs, and early in their career, Rush played much heavier music, influenced by Led Zeppelin and The Who. You might want to check out songs from their earlier albums, like "Anthem" or "Bastille Day," both of which are pretty heavy.
Hey Aileen, it's been way too long since I've watched one of your videos and since I've seen your beautiful smiling face! I should really watch more because your niceness helps to counteract my chronic grumpiness. 😁 I'm not a big fan of some of Rush's music (usually the longer, over-the-top "bombastic" songs), but there are several songs which I really love and this is one of them. It has great songwriting and playing and it makes you want to play a giant air drum kit. I also love that Geddy, Alex and Neil are all humble, genuinely nice guys (RIP Neil) despite being killer musicians and rock stars.
What an awesome sound that comes from these three talented musicians. I almost suggested this on you drum cam videos you posted was to watch the drum cam from Subdivisions.....RIP Neil
No matter how many times I watch Rush play, I'm amazed at the timing and the fact that they are master musicians. Neil brings goose bumps still. I'm 61 and have been a fan forever.
I saw Neil perform a drum solo. He had 2 kits on a rotating drum-riser. I can only imagine what he and Danny Carey are pulling off together in Heaven right now. I've seen them both play live. If we remain good enough as a people, maybe we"ll deserve to see such a a show. AILEEN...mad'am...you are so, so very pretty. You have excellent musical taste. RokOn!!
My mom raised me with Rush among others. I've seen them live 7 times and every time it's a better performance. They sound so good live it's hard to describe properly. When I was a teen we got 3rd row seats... they were right there... underrated only to those who don't really listen.
Good news on the "live vicariously" through those who saw them on this tour; there's live footage from the 1981 tour, called 'Exit... Stage Left'. That footage is the tour for this album. Got to see them in Mobile, AL that year, shortly before the Montreal footage was shot.
I know you are learning how to play guitar. But I really think your a bass player at heart. You always get really excited about the bass in the music. I'm Bass player and I love bass. I appreciate your bass loving comments. Love your reaction videos by the way. Love to see new generations experiencing older music for the first time. Keep up the good work. 🤘🤘✌
'Xanadu' live is incredible to watch. It's proven to be a fan favorite for so many years and if I could only take 1 Rush song with me on a desert island for the rest of my life, it would be Xanadu.
One of the best rock bands that Canada has ever produced rush One of my favorite tracks is from the hemispheres album released in 1977 the trees take a listen trust me you owe it to yourself my dear friend.
Mega enjoyed this take on everything! Unfortunately I never had the chance to see Rush live. I'd of loved it, too! But alas, I'm on the same boat as you. At least we have live videos and recordings!
As someone who has been a fan of the band for almost 40 years (yikes)... the fun of this is watching your face. Not the words, not the analysis. The JOY... it can only come from someone who GETS it. Welcome to the club. Now go watch them live.
You should really dive into some live concert footage and see just how much they enjoy performing. These are three master-class musicians, including perhaps the best drummer to walk this planet.
As a Canadian, Rush makes me a proud Canadian citizen. Amazing and iconic piece of music history. RIP Niel Peart
the first album I bought (mow the grass money mind you) 2112!!! Was 15.

Dang, has it been that long already? Time flies man... whole album feels fresh still :D
My favorite song off Moving Pictures is The Camera Eye! Alex's solo is truly a work of art to behold! Quite possibly the best song RUSH ever wrote.
Limelight is my favorite Rush song. Red Barchetta is amazing too. Witch Hunt is great on that album too.
I agree. I do believe an album review is in order!
"Witch Hunt" is my favorite from that album.
“their own collective solo”. EXACTLY!
You have to listen to a Rush song 5 times.
Concentrate on the;
1. The Bass
2. The Drums
3. The Guitar
4. The Lyrics
Then listen to;
5. All 4 combined.
Your reactions are gold. I will humbly request “Limelight” as your next Rush reaction.
Limelight is my favorite!!!
Yessss Limelight is sooo good!
Listen to. The camera eye. . And RED BARCHETTA. those 2 songs are awesome.
Heck, she needs to review the whole album!
RUSH! another great rabbit hole to go down!
I was lucky enough to see Rush (5/16/1981 Largo Capital Center) for their Moving Pictures tour. They totally blew me and everyone else there away!
I feel his voice fits perfectly with this band and it’s as iconic as the way they mastered they’re instruments.
Yes he's the greatest Rock & Roll drummer to walk on earth.

Live in Rio, for a masterclass by The Professor, Neil Peart, his drum solo in Frankfurt (remembering always that his solos were mid-concert.. he played hard before AND after... just truly amazing!)
Grace under pressure. Based.
Enjoy.
Thank you for expressing so much love for this music and the guys that make up Rush, really nice to see as an older guy who grew up worshiping Rush.
Back in the day, a good friend of mine & I cruise around town passing a fatty & listening to 2112. Grand old times!!
Hearing this brings back good memories of that time
The first rock concert i went to was RUSH for the Presto Tour. Saw them twice years later. My goodness they were incredible.
I watched your body movement and when you started moving your hands I could see that you were really getting in I'm 59 and saw them many times in concert, always a good concert.
awesome song Aileen yes i was fortunate to see Rush in 82 & 83 and was just amazing concert's. one of the greatest bands of all time
Probably their most Commercial hit, but a CLASSIC, TIMELESS TO ME!!!
And they never got into the excesses that many famous musicians get into.
I’m from Canada never been a big Rush fan but absolutely no denying their amazing talent. Drums and bass are out of this world
You talked about reciprocal vicarious enjoyment and I think that is going to be a big topic in the information world!
Not just band members, but 3 true friends and family! And GREAT musicians!
So cool to see you discovering the classics as well always. Reminds me of when it was new to me
When you asked about seeing Rush live and what performances were favorites, when Rush first started touring, they actually opened for Kiss, and something they learned from Kiss was to put everything they had into their concerts.
Yes RUSH just makes U smile and even the casual listener recognizes the Masters at Work. RIP Neil Peart there can be only ONE
RokOn!!
Danny Carey's not dead you must be thinking of Taylor Hawkins maybe?
My mom raised me with Rush among others. I've seen them live 7 times and every time it's a better performance. They sound so good live it's hard to describe properly. When I was a teen we got 3rd row seats... they were right there... underrated only to those who don't really listen.
At about 1:33 you can see how Alex uses a 'foot pedal' that has keyboard chords dialed in so he can play guitar and keyboard on some parts.
2 Things: You are truly amazing to watch and react and great taste. Second, PLEASE do YYZ from live in rio! Absolutely a life changing vid! Great job.
Loved watching your reaction to one of my favorite songs!!! So glad you enjoyed it!!!
Good news on the "live vicariously" through those who saw them on this tour; there's live footage from the 1981 tour, called 'Exit... Stage Left'. That footage is the tour for this album. Got to see them in Mobile, AL that year, shortly before the Montreal footage was shot.
As separate musicians they are each one of the best in their field. Together they’re magic!
My favorite band and arguably the most accomplished rock band ever. Just think, that was 42 years ago.
RUSH Moving Pictures tour was my first time to see RUSH and played the hell out of that cassette.
Seen them live twice. Thy were as great as advertised. Clean, tight and epic.
Fabulous Live performance is where's my thing here it is and it has a great drum solo in it
I saw Rush 19 times and every show was master class in musical precision..... truly the best live band ever....no b.s....just 3 plus hours of music
Neil Peart drum solo live from Frankfurt is what you need to see... That man was blessed
that drumkit is insane....the amount of spatial awareness to just know where every drum is sitting is mad
Great job Gal. You notice the singer is also the , keys and bassist? Pure talent in this most powerful trio. Freewill next.
I saw the last tour of Rush and it was a phenomenal show! Neil Peart is part of the reason why I taught myself how to play drums.
Yes, can't wait to see your reaction on this one
'Xanadu' live is incredible to watch. It's proven to be a fan favorite for so many years and if I could only take 1 Rush song with me on a desert island for the rest of my life, it would be Xanadu.
That would also be _my_ choice 😊 But it'd have to be the 'Exit...Stage Left' version, preferably with 'The Trees' before it 😁
At 4:26 this is exactly how I feel every time I hear that core memory drum roll. My goodness.
Rush was the second concert I ever went to, and they opened with this.
You should really dive into some live concert footage and see just how much they enjoy performing. These are three master-class musicians, including perhaps the best drummer to walk this planet.
yes.. please do more RUSH. just watched yourTom Sawyer reaction. BOTH are great reactions. 👍
