You need to check out Harry’s Guitar Shop (no longer downtown, but in biz for decades). To entice the music community-which used to be large, and is now growing again. Support local!
Other than the Imax theater, there's The Rialto just a few blocks north of downtown on Glenwood Ave. It's a single screen art house sort of theater. Most retail tends to be just outside of downtown proper around The Village District and NC State. Those areas are generally walkable from Glenwood South on the west side of downtown. At least it is for me since I enjoy walking.
Charlotte is a big banking town. Yuck. Raleigh has the R line downtown and Amtrak to and from Durham. The USA is a corporation and big money bought up public transit DECADES ago. During Covid the bus system was free for three years. Plenty of buses and bus routes . . . but travel time can be HOURS long if your destination is off the beaten path or unusual.
Well done! I’m a Raleigh girl and there were several spots (secret insider ones) that were missed . . . of course. . . but what a GREAT job providing a feel for our fun city!
Do a Google search for “Raleigh Public Parking.” Street parking is free after 5:00 PM and on weekends. Read the signs as you will get ticketed if you’re not abiding by the rules.
I found another video on RUclips that showed more of the unique-to-Raleigh type stuff such as the parks and historic water mill, etc. This was more food and drink. I don't drink haha.
@ShondaD_ Raleigh dweller here! Check out Dorthea Dix Park, Raleigh Area Greenways, and Umstead State Park for starters. There’s an historic carousel at Pullen Park. Also check out Mordecai . Museums downtown: CAM, NC Museum of History, COR, and NC Museum of Science. A short drive from downtown there’s NCMA and it’s beautiful green campus with trails. There’s Lake Johnson, Lake Wheeler, Historic Yates Mill with trails, and Lake Jordan. Arts: Fletcher Hall and Meymadi, many different events downtown such as Artsplosure. Local institutions to see college level performances include Peace and NCSU’s massive program. Anything else?
Not sure what gives you that impression. Raleigh feels suburban and new, new, new. No public transportation and although it is walkable to some degree, you really need a car to get anywhere, especially between other areas of the triangle (Durham or Chapel Hill). Unlike most European cities that feel weathered by time with old world charm, Raleigh feels like it was speedily built in the last decade (much of it was).
@@touchy_djAgreed. Although the area does offer benefits to people in CERTAIN industries overall the area is extremely overvalued for what it is and what it offers. Hopefully the area will have more substance to warrant the outrageous real estate prices.

This was actually filmed over a few days, during the week late mornings
@@LivinginRaleighTV Thanks
Look like Minneapolis what about shopping? Theatres? Most downtowns done away with malls downtown, pros a lot of restaurants. Thank you for the video.
Thanks for watching. There are a lot of independent shops in Downtown Raleigh. Nearby there is the Village District and North Hills Mall as well.

Plenty of bars and food. But what about things to actually do or go to such as museums, libraries, arts, performances, outdoorsy type of things?
