That's definitely a fair assessment of the city centre, in my humble opinion. Sunderland used to be my choice for shopping in the seventies and eighties but there's little to get excited about these days. For a Saturday afternoon, it was all looking a bit quiet and the High Street, well, it's not very pleasant at all. You're right though, there's many worse cities up and down the country and at least there's some regeneration going on in the city.
Cheers for that, yeah, the high street doesn't really feel like a high street at all, especially when M&S goes the journey, however, the high street is clean, nice and looks good, it just doesn't have the shops that most people need. I'll always be thankful for Sunderland, but If you want to feel a bustling city centre with many more shops, you have to travel to Newcastle or even the Metrocentre for the ambience. We have to wait for the summer to truly see if this rejuvenation is working I reckon. Many thanks for your comment Ian, all the best.
@@JordyShowWalks I didn't know that M&S were pulling out, that's not a good sign for any city when they decide to go. There's a lot of dead or dying towns down here in my neck of the woods. I currently live in Bromsgrove and the high street here is full of charity shops and not a lot else. McDonalds, Waterstones, Superdrug and countless others scarpered and it's all fairly embarrassing. Not a sniff of regeneration here mate! Keep up the good work! 👍
Well you could have started at the theatre area which looks amazing now instead of the shut down leisure centre. Its like 30 metres the other way but you choose what you show for your reasons
Eh? I started in my favourite little place by the minster, also Crowtree holds massive importance for the city and it's a positive video about Sunderland. The Empire area is definitely beautiful now, I'll definitely show it in the next video because I've been travelling and seen how nice Sunderland is compared with almost all of the rest of UK. But anyway, there's my reason for starting there, not a bad place in my head ha
That woman you walk past with the yellow hat at 1min 56s. I'm sure her photo was in the sunderland echo about a week ago. Police were searching for her after 10k theft in the raich carter.
O.k. Newcastle has this reputation as a party City but Sunderland is just as healthy !!! In fact its booming Day & Night !!! The City is growing more & more So Come you'll be pleasantly Surprised !!!
I think that's a perfectly fair review score of our city centre and services :D I think the only highlight we have is our beaches (at least at the moment)
I can say already that they'll be in the high 9s and 10s for sure. I'm glad you thought my review was fair, it's meant to be a bit tongue in cheek, but I couldn't give it any higher, the high street especially needs work, but it's coming. Many thanks for the comment Milk Maiden!
I'd say there's a great night to be had on a Friday or Saturday. Weekdays are a bit calmer, but there's definitely still a pub culture here in Sunderland, it's almost like going to church, a routine, a staple and something that is almost necessary I reckon. Most people are friendly too, so meeting a few new friends, men or women is easy. Hope that answers your question Quinn, Cheers for the comment, all the best.
I'm waiting to hear if I'm approved for my UK ancestry visa at the moment. Should find out soon 🤞🏼 . I've been looking for jobs and saw they have some chemical plants around sunderland that's why I'm interested in that area. I'm a process operator at a lead smelter here so looking for something similar. One thing I'm kind of scared of tho is the wages seem a lot lower in the UK.. so I'm hoping the cost of living is a lot cheaper than here in canada . I know real estate is wayyyy cheaper there than here
I’ve always preferred Sunderland to Durham or Newcastle. Yes, it’s very rough around the edges, but at least it’s still a bit untouched by the trendy terrorists from outside the north.
They do tend to bring decent coffee and quell the stigma behind second hand clothing, but yes, I agree haha There's something about Newcastle that keeps me going, but Sunderland is definitely a bit more pure and clean in it's aesthetics.
Yeah, I saw that, but still, it's a bit sad that the streets are so empty, just because the bridges is shut, surely there's a reason to be outside after 5pm other than drinking or filming youtube videos about how dead the streets are ha Nah, it's the same everywhere I suppose, let's hope the summer gets us all out and about. Cheers for the comment Bernadette, all the best
Sunderland alot better than used to be and still improving. We are not used to people wandering around with a camera in sunderland that why u may get a few funny looks hahah.
Exactly right, I actually agree though, it is weird to see someone mooching around talking to a lens on a stick haha, but I feel compelled to show Sunderland, so I must endure. I've been heckled 100% of the time I've filmed in Sunderland, does wonders for mental fortitude 😅
It’s so sad to see what’s happened to Sunderland in the last 30 years I’m 40 and I was born in wear Garth and remember when I was about ten years old how busy it was compared to now it’s dead it’s finished it sad I live in Liverpool now and have done for years and Liverpool is hundred times better
Ahh Wear Garth, I think that's where my family is from. It's strange because I really want it to get busier, but round my way it's busy, and it's just parked cars and vegetable shops, nothing really worth trying to enjoy, when I went to Liverpool, it did feel alive and bustling, I really enjoyed it, although the amount of homeless people and litter was a bit off putting. Sunderland is beautiful, clean but a bit boring, the beaches are where the real beauty is. I guess we'll see who this rejuvenation of the city is for in a few years. Cheers for the comment Wayne mate, hope the video was interesting to see after all these years away. All the best.
There's millions of metrics to go by when reviewing a city I imagine, but this is supposed to be a bit of fun really and mainly to show the central area to anyone interested in visiting or people who can't get out so often to see the new things happening. Sunderland will always be 10/10 in many ways.

How about the football march day's Sunderland, I remember when I studied here, every time march days were so crazy. 😁
I do believe this was the match day mate, the bridge was pretty packed once I got there, hope you've got fond memories.

Good to hear ! Enjoy the videos . Cheers mate 🍻
Glad you enjoy them, and remember, you're more than welcome here in Sunderland, we could do with a few more Canadians 🍻

3:30pm on a Saturday you expecting it to be busy Marra. Everyone at the football 😂
Exactly, but I had to go on a Saturday to show what the centre is like.
I only clicked on about the match once I got to the bridge haha

@casssafc1063 skiddurp, haha I started with Newcastle videos mate and haven't thought of a better name yet, hope you're well man

I would not judge anywhere by a video of any lenght never mind 16 mintues Sunderland does not look any worse or better than most places.
