Orange balaclava, football socks, second hand boots, yer dads warmest jumper yer matted sheepskin mitts and luxury of luxuries your brand new triple ventilation anorak. That’s what I was wearing 52 years ago when I first did this walk, and just like you I enjoyed every minute of it!! Warm fireside and a bottle of beer now for me, but man are you bringing back some great memories to this old man. Cheers

First time I did this I travelled from the midlands and spent 2 days in the back of my van down at Wasdale because the weather was so bad. Climbed exactly the same route once the weather had cleared. Up to Mickledore, then another storm came over from Sellafield. By the time I knew what was happening I couldn't see 10 feet in front of me. Absolutely horrendous weather and winds. Thankfully I stayed composed and hunkered down by the rescue stretcher for nearly 2 hours until the storm had passed, before making my way up to Scafell Pike and then off.
Had great plans that day to do Great End and Great Gable as well and even though the weather cleared I was creamed and just glad to get down safely. Even on the way down I met some other hikers that couldn't believe I'd been up top. that was over 20 years ago and I learned some valuable lessens that day as a youngster solo hiking. What an experience. Had a few other hairy moments since on different mountains but that always sticks in my mind.

    Looks amazing covered in snow!
What would you say is the "easiest" way up (not neccessarily the quickest)??
Could the mysterious dog footprints have been a fox or wild cat?

Apologies that I’ve only just found your channel. I like the way you video the route and magnificent scenery as well as a brilliant commentary too. I have mobility problems now and am disabled but it’s a regret that I didn’t get to explore the high fells of the Lake District especially as my wife’s family are from Cockermouth so that base would have been brilliant! However, I know the High Peak of the Peak District as well as Snowdonia very well. Keep making these videos please!

18:10 Is the trig marker there not the true summit, and the stone bunker which was man-made is actually a false summit? I found Scafell Pike to be a tough slog, personally and really didn't like it. Out of Snowdon, Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike, I thought this one was the "worst"! Great views in the snow you captured with your camera there.

    • @keychainere
      @keychainere 28 дней назад

Did Scafell over the weekend and it was awful. Going uphill on stones and rocks for hours on end was not enjoyable at all. There's a reason people head to Snowden or Nevis.

@@fishermansid8861 It can go wrong very quickly in adverse weather though if not prepared. Regardless of summit height. I had to help a fella of scafell pike when a thick fog came in and the temperature dropped massively and he had no clue where to go to get back down. Shorts, tshirt and trainers. I got him down the path towards wasdale then doubled up back to my start point in Seathwaite via the corridor, using map and compass due to poor signal and visibility. Turns out mountain rescue were out for 2 others from the same group later that day.

This will be me this weekend. I try to get up most weekends but the fuel crisis is starting to take effect. 2020 it used to cost me about 40 quid to get to the lakes and back. Now it's £80 minimum. Means I can only manage to come up twice a month unfortunately. Great to see you out and about again mate. Nice winter video in summer 🤣🤣🤣 you been busy I'm guessing haha

Another wonderful video with stunning views. I've climbed Scafell Pike over ten times from five different start points over the last fifty years, most of the times it has been shrouded in mist, even if it was nice when I set off. As Wainwright used to say, Watch where you are putting your feet. A broken ankle near the summit is not ideal. :)

I was also wondering when this was filmed?
It appears from the description it was posted June 29!
Obviously it was winter time, even though it was "claggy" it was dramatic and atmospheric.
Thanks for putting in the walking and filming effort to allow others to experience the wild beauty on show.
My wife and I completed your route to Scafell Pike on 27th September just gone.
We intended to go up the less busy Scafell but after reaching the top of Mickledore were uncertain of the route so went to the Pike instead.
We are in our 60's and inexperienced fell walkers but were pleased to get up and down without mishaps other than my getting leg cramps on the way back down.
Love your channel and your personality and Finn the dog! 🙂

My wife and I attempted this back in Nov 22 (although we turned left at the route junction up the main path) - can sum up our experience in 2 words: overestimation, and under-preparedness! First time in the Lakes, and three quarters of the way up, sun turned to rain turned to hail, for which we were not dressed! Lingmell Gill was a raging river! Had to turn back, but we'll be back better prepared!
