I was lucky. I was very very lucky. I had the pleasure of having dinner with Little Feat in 93'. I asked Paul Barrere who he was listening to. He told me about Derek. He said to check him out so when Derek came to the S.F. area to debut his first solo album I went. He was opening for Steve Kimock and Zero. I couldn't believe my ears. I became as excited about music again as if I were at my first concert ever decades earlier. I haven't missed a show in the S.F. area since. I've been very lucky to see him in tiny clubs like the last day saloon, the independent, the fillmore and Great American music hall. At the Last Day saloon show there were only about 40 people in attendance. I knew then he would be what he is today. Playing with everyone from Herbie Hancock to Eric Clapton, Allman Brothers, on and on. Derek is special. No doubt about it. I'm lucky to have seen him since he was 16 years old. Thanks for posting this. He's been my favorite guitarist since I first laid ears on him many years ago.
I could not not love this anymore than I do! We saw them at Red Rocks, during this song my wife leaned over and said, “ it’s like God explaining the meaning of life”. This is a fantastic post. Gracias Amigo!! Well done.
The grit that this man plays with, and yet he stands there, like a statue, so concentrated. More talent than a lot of guys out there, he sure could pull a guitar face if he wanted to, hell I do just listening to him. He’s just got so much composure, blows my mind.
Glas on metal masterclass.. I have never ever experienced this level of expressed warm hearted music delivered and at the same time from a place from the deepest depths of a beautiful soul . i am in absolut awe from this compilation and to your gift thanx derek for sharing this to us and love truely from my heart to yours!!
You can feel there is a mix of sadness and happiness in his slide. I'm so connected to his music because we all live our lives in a mix of joy and pain at the same time. Thanks Derek !
I know he is just a bearded guy playing slide guitar like no other...But damn..i feel like his notes touch my heart in a way that invites it to pour out all its saddness, with joy and rejoice. Brings tears to my eyes with this euphoria of a sensation of being saved, or something. Unbeliavable Soul playing and touching.
The man is possessed! It only takes a few months for a novice player to learn how to play their instrument; after that, musicians usually spend the rest of their lives in search of a unique style and a sound of their own. Few -- very, very few -- are the blessed ones who ever get to reach that point. And this guy had it -- in spades! -- before he even reached puberty. The ancient Greeks described the mythical music of Orpheus as having supernatural powers: ferocious beasts would lay down in the grass and purr harmlessly like kittens, birds would go quiet in the trees, clouds would fade from the sky. Poetic hyperbole, no doubt. But I'd be damned, if DT's music doesn't have exactly that effect. The man is a phenom, untouchable!
Derek, I think you must be exhausted after playing this track with the amount of emotion you put into your solo. I'm sure every other guitarist out there probably agrees with me.
i put this song on my playlist and for the last 5 trips to the gym, or so, i have just melted into this song on the pretend bike. it rolls into his next on my playlist and i just get lost. next thing you know, i've trucked 8 miles. love. keep on truckin'
the supreme blend of Oriental fretwork and Occidental riffs catapults me into immeasurable bliss. Pray there is a professional recording of this Musical sermon!
All 3 are great in their own right. But, for me, the 2010 Crossroads Guitar Fest version is "The Benchmark"! If that one doesn't pull on every one of your emotions, so much so that you get a little choked up and your eyes well up..... you might want to check and see if you have a pulse.
For me its his solo at the palace theater in 2012. I think its on youtube and archive.org, you should give it a listen. It's one of the greatest solos I've ever heard- I tear up a little every time I sit down and listen to it.
Wanee 2010 recorded by Susea. The Best, he shreds, watched it 1000 times. Was my first show, so it means a little more to me, but the solo is unbelievable!!!!!!!
have you counted how many are on stage with Santana? Many many bands have had 2 drummers since the 50's. That huge sound inspired Duane Allman to have 2 drummers, then Butch brought in Greg Quinones so the Alma's had 3 for over a decade. The Grateful Dead have 2, many many bands have 2 drummers. It can be a train wreck with the wrong combination of drummers, but when you have 2 that can play with each other its magic.
Far and away the most magnetic, mystical, mesmerizing, and magical guitar player ever.

Derek Trucks makes me cry
I have to admit that I envy Derek's feeling. He makes the guitar sing for us to cry.

Uncle Butch said he never plays a song the same way twice. This proves it. There's no other word to describe it. Beauty.
I can only go so long without hearing my man Derek play.
Uno dei migliori chitarristi in circolazione ....!!!! Band fantastica...
A fantastic talent. Fabulous guitarist. This band are superb
This is the best guitar playing vedio that I’ve found for recent years.

Derek trucks is amazing
You cant get sick of it because he plays it differently everytime
He's stood the exact same way for over 30 years. Habits...
I remember reading about him when he was 11 I think, in black and white picture with him and he used a t cap hat but the guitar shape escapes me now!
I have a feeling he could play this good in his sleep too, love him
SK?
Holdin back the tears.....
puro feeling, toca com a alma, sem explicação, não tem pratica, já nasce sabendo......parabéns, pra mim o melhor de todos os tempos......

This one is my favorite ruclips.net/video/_IrU60_rf38/видео.html
Incredible
going to hell when derek starts to play loud and sharp inside the fire of that guitar. but we feel blissed and blessed in a world of despair.
Simply the best...
Kickass slide !!!!!!!!
You are an angel
That 'eTown' (?) RUclips version with millions of views is the best ever - last two measures Derek goes completely off the rails.
All three are amazing, but my fave is the middle one.
He's telepathically speaking through that guitar.

I hate that that I can shred many notes but he carries 3xfeelings in that much.2x feelings in feelings that much feelings that close!
Wicked
Whats with the 2 drummers?!
Worked for the Allman Brothers
Because they can...

Why bother without Susan?
guy is so good at guitar he needs two drummers
He is the best alive.. now?
I prefer the live in Atlanta version. More intense, more band teamwork.
If you can't make a guitar sing ain't no use in playing it.
The woman on the right can leave !!
Christian Bale on the drums to the right of Derek :D
The clapping was so stupid
I hate Derek. He's the reason I put all my guitars in a wood chipper.
Can his wife please get off stage ..
Fuck right off
Respect her place for God's sake, she's the Tedeschi in the Tedeschi Trucks band, fool.
She has more talent in her finger then you will ever have.
Be silent you ignorant, soul-less troll.
