What's best is a combination of trains and belts, if you're using farms then spread out your farms and use trains to transport them to crafting area via trains those crafting areas won't be flooded constantly and won't need to transport items superfast so it's a good idea to use belts there as it makes processing easier.
if you use portable storage interfaces, connected together with any block, and glued. with an inventory somewhere along the line (very important). you can essentially get item pipes. you just put down a mechanical piston, set it to the third setting so that it doesn't place unless the anchor is broken, and then put a crank and just press your mouse once. it will instantly transfer any item without the cost of vaults. Unless you use fluid pipes for the aesthetic like I do. but copper's easier to get anyway.
biggest reason not to use belts is i've had them break before along chunk borders when chunks were loading in extremely slowly during bad server lag. it causes a giant mess, and it's why i always chunk-align my machines as well in case it happens
another thing to improve belt speed and efficiency is using weighted ejectors that only launch items when at 64 stack, instead of having belts with clumps of like 13 items at a time
This is EXACTLY the tech I needed for my one-belt factory. I can't figure out a way to ensure all ingredients will eventually go by, but now I don't have to! Contraptions are the storage, the sorter, AND the belt!
Love the trains of create to move stuff across big lengths of terrain but in the smaller setups if the game cant handle all the belts, why not use the vanilla ways of moving stuff? Watching the video I cant stop myself and think that this is minecraft at the end of the day and vanilla minecraft is still in the game! People move stuff in vanilla minecraft in many ways; hoppers, minecarts, water streams, water columns, ice paths, shulkers, (or more technical ways like piston bolts and shulkers unloaders) all of these are used in massive amounts of items and they dont reduce fps or tps if managed correctly. All of this combined with the create machines could mean an even greater and faster way of doing stuff!
Cool stuff with the trains. I'd love to see a compacted storage system using them; like an automatically sorted storage system with a train that drops off items when you tell it to, like a glorified shulker unloader
I just spent an hour trying to make a simple create machine and found your video LOL my god I can’t believe how long that progress must have taken to earn wow
Psst.. You are not going to believe me but.. You can use vanilla hopper to transport items, no lags and it is much, much cheaper! You can also use water and ice, droppers and much more! You will find out it much easier to craft and your FPS will be back to normal. You don't have to stick just to the mod. Actually, you can mix different techniques and methods to achieve the best result.
Trains are still the coolest option, they travel through unloaded chunks, you could for example have someone afk in a farm while someone is at the base and a single train with humongous storage capacities would be transferring hundreds of thousands of items at once.
Hoppers are one of the laggiest vanilla blocks, so having a line of them that substitutes one belt would probably have about the same performance impact x)
