Hey John. I just want to thank you for all of your content. You are a great guy for doing that. You’ve helped many people. Thank you.
Super 😁
Hello John : can you make some video to show us how to use the machines in the practical exame.( abo / ncle) . Thanks whatch your video all the time.
Yan Lutz Did you take ncle yet? i need a study guide to prepare for it please
@@Loyaltytrades . Yes I did take ncle in 2015. But where I am living in Washington state in order to get state licensed. I have to take both abo and ncle again, plus practical. My work supply studying material. But not too much information. I think you can get some studying material from abo-ncle .org. good luck for both of us. And happy holidays.
Yan Lutz Thank you
Yan, I cover lens clock and calipers on the OpticianWorks website. The lensmeter has a multi-part series of videos. John
Hi John, any advice... after working with my hands for so many year they are becoming weak and bending temples aren't as easy to do with my thumbs. I see temple bend pliers and a new bionic thumb tool...do they work? Or do you recommend anything? Love your videos 🙂
I haven't tried the "bionic Thumb" but it looks good and if I get to that point myself I'll probably grab one! It's simple, no moving parts, looks well made and was created by a working optician - how bad could it be? You also have temple bending pliers. Drop me an email through the website and I'll send you a picture. John
Hi John, I will take my NCLE soon do you have any study guide please, I find it so hard to find something than the ABO.
No. We can't find anyone to create the content. We have been trying for years now. Sorry. Look around at contact lens specific FB groups and be sure to get plenty of hands-on experience. John
Taking my ABO Practical here in Massachusetts. I noticed the Virtual exam has prescriptions in twelfths. I was taught to use quarter measurements. Any Videos on exactly what those diopters are. Ex. An rx between 1.75 - 2.00
Not a video but I do cover it on the website. We all say it - but - no such thing as twelfths. Those would be 1/8th diopter steps. And you will often find them when figuring intermediate add powers so no better time than now to get familiar with them. 0.125 +/-
@@LaramyKOptical thank you for responding back.
How did your practical exam go to the actual abo
@@michellecastle3920 might be moving states and the state I'll need the practical exam to get license
Hey! Question do you have any videos on the updated practical exam for virtual? I’m in Arizona and the only way to do the “practical” is virtually and I’ve been struggling ! Please help.
Sorry no updated versions. You might try asking around on social media, OptiBoard and your state optician's association - maybe you will luck out and find someone who took it recently.
Hi john, why you haven’t not use Digital lensmeter ? Have any issues in this?
Nope. I love auto-lensmeters. I'd use one if I had one. They make much more sense than a manual one does. A good digital is an objective measure, a manual is and always will be subjective. I understand that practical exams like these in Europe do use them! Here is the US, well, if there is thing opticians here are any good at it is clinging to the past... John
Exhausting!
Is this for the basic ABO exam as well??
No this was my prep for the actual hands-on in-person real practical exam.
Here is the one for the ABO: ruclips.net/video/K-kWaPKEK88/видео.html
Hello John. The practical is now online(cpu) so it is no longer hands on. I feel this is such a bad idea as it doesnt give people the necessary practice,(hands on experience) and knowledge especially when there are some schools in certain states that does not require you to use the focimeter or even make a pair of glasses. Also how accurate is the practical online? I believe it is such a horrible idea. The ABO online is fine but the practical online is just ridiculous!! What's your intake?
Even the SC one is now computer based? Oh well, what a shame. My take on it - I could go on for hours. The concept of an online practical examination (without the aid of VR) is an oxymoron. The term practical means the practical display of the application of a hands-on skill set. If it wasn't so ridiculous I'd puke. Just another nail in the coffin of opticianry. Funny how a remake of Catch-22 is coming out now? John
Jaz Bella which state are you in
